The Dedeaux Download Podcast returns with Shotgun Spratling and podcast co-host Kasey Kazliner breaking down USC baseball's big rivalry series win over then-No. 14 UCLA that helped push the Trojans into the top 25 rankings for the first time since 2023. Shotgun and Kasey take a look at all the action, pointing out the positives of the Trojans improving to 32-16 with a 16-8 mark in Big Ten play and a third-place spot in the standings behind only Iowa and the Bruins. They discuss the power of names that start with the letter 'A' as well as the Trojans' ability to bounce back from a heartbreaking loss in the series opener to still be able to get the series win. Shotgun and Kasey also look at how USC boosted its resume behind strong production of a pair of Lopezes. The podcasters also discuss three negatives, including a growing trend for Caden Hunter and a tough outing for top reliever Brodie Burcell. USC hitting coach Travis Jewett then joins the show to talk about how the Trojans' offense was able to bounce back after failing to capitalize on opportunities in the series opener against UCLA, ending the game with the bases loaded in a one-run loss. He also discusses how the USC lineup has got longer and stronger as the season has progressed with the development of players like Andrew Lamb, Jack Basseer, Adrian and Augie Lopez. Jewett even talks about the art of helping hitters break out of slumps. After a break, Adrian Lopez joins the show to talk about his transfer portal journey that has taken him to two high schools and two colleges over the last four seasons and how he's found a home at USC, a place he didn't grow up rooting for but his whole family did. Lopez discusses his connection with Jewett and how the two have worked together this season. Lopez also shares his favorite between-inning festivity that takes place during games and talks about the connection of players, including ones on hated teams and those in the USC locker room. Shotgun and Kasey close out the show taking a look at where the Trojans stand after winning another Big Ten series, improving their RPI briefly up to No. 29 (now No. 31). The podcast then previews USC's upcoming week of action with the Trojans taking on Big Ten Pitcher of the Year candidate Joseph Dzierwa and Michigan State at Great Park this weekend. Building a database is a serious undertaking. There are just so many parts that you have to implement before you even get to a decent prototype, and so many hours of work before you could begin working on the ideas that would make your database unique. Apache DataFusion is a project that hopes to change all that, but building an extensible, composable toolkit of database pieces, which could let you build a viable database extremely quickly, and then innovate from that starting point. And even if you're not building a database, it's a fascinating project to explain how databases are built.Joining me to explain it all is Andrew Lamb, one of DataFusion's core contributors, and he's going to take us through the whole stack, how it's built and how you could use it. Along the way we cover everything from who's building interesting new databases and how you manage a large, open-source Rust project.–DataFusion Homepage: https://datafusion.apache.org/DataFusion on Github: https://github.com/apache/datafusionDataFusion Architecture (with diagrams!): https://youtu.be/NVKujPxwSBA?si=tw9ACxlbdpBuVsnv&t=1045Datalog: https://docs.racket-lang.org/datalog/Tokio: https://tokio.rs/Andrew's Homepage: http://andrew.nerdnetworks.org/Andrew's Blog Post about Tokio: https://thenewstack.io/using-rustlangs-async-tokio-runtime-for-cpu-bound-tasks/Velox: https://velox-lib.io/Arroyo: https://www.arroyo.dev/Synnada: https://www.synnada.ai/LanceDB: https://lancedb.com/SDF+DBT: https://docs.sdf.com/integrations/dbt/integratingSupport Developer Voices on Patreon: https://patreon.com/DeveloperVoicesSupport Developer Voices on YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/@developervoices/joinKris on Bluesky: https://bsky.app/profile/krisajenkins.bsky.socialKris on Mastodon: http://mastodon.social/@krisajenkinsKris on LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/krisjenkins/

While we live in a world of unprecedented prosperity for many, we also live in a world that is experiencing unprecedented levels of humanitarian crisis. You know the examples: protracted violent conflicts, devastation caused by earthquakes or hurricanes, the specters of famine or disease outbreak... unfortunately the list goes on and on. The good news is that we have a humanitarian community that does a fantastic job of responding to these crises with the resources available to them. In large part, supplies arrive, shelter is provided and people receive care until a time in which they can begin the transition back to normalcy. Unfortunately, as with the creation of any system, developing the capacity to address these large scale crises has produced unintended consequences and externalities. One of these externalities is a logistics and supply chain ecosystem that is bureaucratic, expensive and rigid. On this, the 144th episode of the Terms Of Reference Podcast, I talk with Andrew Lamb of Field Ready about how their organization is disrupting logistics and supply chains currently associated with humanitarian aid by helping to solve problems at the source, in the communities affected by crisis. Andrew is the Innovation Advisor for Field Ready. He is the former CEO of Engineers Without Borders – UK, he co-founded and serves as a Trustee of the Humanitarian Centre in Cambridge and he is a Trustee of RedR-UK. You're going to love this episode because it is packed with specific examples about how Field Ready is disrupting the delivery of humanitarian aid through design, process re-engineering, 3D printing and more.

We’re not camping this time, we’re staying at a cabin! That should mean increased comfort, except someone among the group of people stranded by three minutes of rain might be a killer.  Or are they all just crazy?  It’s like Key Largo with a cock shot. Rain drifting, weird speed limits, no cops, and a ride in something too fast for the WRC. This is the podcast from TST's New Zealand Adventure. The Smoking Tire podcasts on the last night of their New Zealand trip. Our guests are Andrew Lamb and Caswal Parker, the founders of the game Automation, which lets you design cars and engines and then test them on the track and on the market. They thought TST should see what cars Kiwis make, so they paid our airfare and brought us to the island of GT-Rs, cheap Evos, and incredible DIY race cars, to show us why this country's car culture could be the best.

Two weeks after Hurricane Katrina hit the Gulf Coast, Andrew Lamb's trio went into the studio to record a response, the album New Orleans Suite (Engine Studios, 2005 & 2010). Now that album has been remastered and reissued to mark the fifth anniversary of the storm and the engineering disaster that flooded New Orleans. In this interview, Lamb talks about his personal connections to New Orleans; the experience of making the record in the days immediately after the storm; and why he feels musicians have a responsibility to make music that talks about social and political issues.
