Hosts Lorraine Harton and Wil McDermott pick apart whatever pop culture flotsam and/or jetsam that catches their eyes!
Episode Notes In what might be their last hurrah for a while, our heroes present a rogues gallery to send them off. This week they have Bob Dylan, Nosferatu, and what could be described as what you might get if Bob Dylan and Nosferatu were to somehow reproduce: Marilyn Manson. First up it's mustachioed, undead bloodsucker, Count Orlok, a.k.a. Nosferatu. Will Robert Eggers horror epic give Lorraine and Will the fear? Can Will get past Orlok's clumsy ultimatum? Next is tiresome shock-merchant, Marilyn Manson, who has been up to what can only be described as fairly unsurprising behaviour. Channel 4's 3-piece documentary boils our heroes blood to the point where Count Orlok himself would burn his tongue on it! Finally, Dylan biopic A Complete Unknown rounds off this trio. Can Timothee Chalamet pull off the job of inhabiting the most cantankerous and obtuse musicians of all time? This may be our last show for a while. We've had a great time doing it and we hope to be back at some point. Thanks to NEAR FM.ie for having us, and as Dylan himself said "It's All Over Now, Baby Blue". Episode Notes This week our heroes are talking about men and girls. Men in the form of Robbie Williams and his monkey-centric biopic (with a soft 'o' for Lorraine) and then kink-shaming drama, Babygirl, starring Nicole Kidman. Better Man has already come up short at the American box office but will Lorraine and Will let Robbie entertain them one last time on the show (he's been on A LOT)? Next up is kink-shaming drama, Babygirl. Nicole Kidman is the sexually-repressed CEO of a robotics company (yes, really. The symbolism is that heavy-handed) and Harris Dickinson is Samuel, a young intern who is surprisingly good at making attacking animals submissive (yes, it really is that heavy-handed). When his perv-radar goes off on Nicole Kidman, sparks fly and she ends up being incredibly harshly judged and punished. There's no room for kink-shaming in Pop Filter. Unless kink-shaming is your kink. Then they'll let it slide. Enjoy! This podcast is powered by Pinecast.
Episode Notes Well, it's that time of year again and our heroes at Pop Filter are celebrating their most productive year of podcasting ever. What better way to celebrate than with a big tub of Heroes and a recap of Lorraine and Will's pop culture highlights of the year. They even sneak one last mini-review in as they give their thoughts on pope-drama, Conclave. Talk about a stocking filler! Happy Christmas to everyone who listened or downloaded this year. But only those people! Everyone else is getting a piece of coal for Christmas. See you all next year. Lorraine and Will. This podcast is powered by Pinecast.
Episode Notes It's the penultimate Pop Filter of 2024 and this week we have a recurring favourite feature of Will and Lorraine's; Boy Bands. Seems like they've talked about them a lot! Well, this might be the daddy of all documentaries. Boybands Forever is a 3 part BBC series that will drag you Back For Good to the mid 90s for a nostalgia trip you'll NEEEEVVVVEEERRR Forget! Next up is what has been touted as a Forrest Gump reunion. It's the movie, Here, which brings director Robert Zemeckis, Tom Hanks and Robin Wright back together for the first time in 30 years. Will this single point of view in time and space covering millions of years drama generate a 'life is like a box of chocolates' or 'stupid is as stupid does'? Spoiler Alert! No. Anyway, it's business as usual for our heroes. Enjoy. This podcast is powered by Pinecast.
Episode Notes This week Will and Lorraine are in their togas and laurels casting their thumbs up or down to see which of this weeks gladiators will triumph. In one corner we have jacked-up fighting machine Paul Mescal who has already kicked the shit out of a bunch of freaky-looking monkeys. In the other we have the mopey assassin, Cillian Murphy. The only hope he has is if Mescal cuts himself on his cheekbones. It seems like it's a David Vs Goliath no-brainer. The lads at Pop Filter love a plucky underdog, though. Contact Will and/or Lorraine via their facebook page or popfilter1000@gmail.com This podcast is powered by Pinecast.
Episode Notes This episode is going to be bigly. This week, Lorraine and Will are looking at Donald Trump's supervillain origin story, The Apprentice. They learn how The Donald started as a meek (but rich) rent collector in Hell's Kitchen, New York and set off on his inevitable path towards the White House. Twice. Next up is creepy new A24 offering, Heretic. Hugh Grant is just a man....standing before two girls....asking them to choose between belief and disbelief. It's the feel-good hit of the year. Lorraine and Will loves them some A24 but is this just a copy of a copy? This podcast is powered by Pinecast.
Episode Notes Our heroes have done a 180 on the Monsters theme from last week and have now turned their attention to a more romantic prospect which is new Netflix comedy drama, Nobody Wants This? Watch Adam Brody and Kristin Bell navigate love and religion in this tale of a too-good-to-be-true guy and a really cool and fairly together girl who happen to treat each other fairly nicely which is a rare enough thing on TV. Swiftly followed by jazz-fusion juggernaut, Geordie Greep and his debut album, The New Sound. Geordie is your typical young man around town who likes to brag about his sexual prowess. He's also got a few choice words to say about your lady-parts, girls! It's all bravado and bluster and he soon reveals himself to be less than impressive, all set to a thunderous backdrop of jazz, salsa, rock and Broadway musical styles all played at a feverish pace. The usual mixed bag from Will and Lorraine. Enjoy! This podcast is powered by Pinecast.
Episode Notes Our heroes return with another of their loosely themed shows. This time the theme is (arguably) monsters. First up is Frankensteinesque body-horror fairy tale, The Substance. Will had to go see this one on his own as Lorraine was feeling squeamish. Not to worry, Will braved the relentless nudity for you all. See a return to form performance from Demi Moore and let us know if you agree with Will's take on The Substance as being a drug that was NOT ready for public consumption. Next up, Lorraine and Will sit through 9 episodes of Ryan Murphy's new true crime series: Monsters, The Erik and Lyle Menedez story. It's a grim but slightly camp affair as we learn about 90's teen killers, Erik and Lyle and their ill-fated parents. Will Lorraine be able to get past the wigs she couldn't overcome in Murphy's similarly-toned OJ Simpson series from a few years ago? Last up is Ellen Degeneres and her return to stand-up for a farewell lap before she bows out of the showbiz life she claims she has already been kicked out of. Can Ellen really be honest and deal with the allegations of unkindness that brought her talk show to an end? And, more importantly, can she be a funny comic again? Our pals, Lorraine and Will, will let you know. This podcast is powered by Pinecast.
Episode Notes This week, our heroes Lorraine and Will, try to get inside the mind of the man that gave us The Sopranos and some wonderfully and encouragingly bad student films, David Chase. They're looking at the new HBO documentary from Alex Gibney, Wise Guy. Fuhgeddaboutit! Except don't. It's really good and worth your time. Next it's on to the Hollywood remake of the Danish film from two years ago, Speak No Evil. James McAvoy chews up the scenery as one half of a possibly quite mental couple who invite new friends they met on holiday to stay with them for the weekend. On their farm. In the middle of nowhere. In dirty beds. What could go wrong? Well, let Lorraine and Will tell you. Enjoy! This podcast is powered by Pinecast.
Episode Notes This week our heroes take on a frustrating brace of films. First up is weirdly-wardrobed Blake Lively and her film, It Ends With Us. Spoiler Alert: It Ends With Some Very Low Ratings might be a better name. Lorraine spills the tea on the social media backlash towards Lively, and Will makes an inspired joke about the film and Lively's marketing efforts. Next up is M. "Night" Shyamalan and his latest psychological thriller, Trap. Will and Lorraine feel like the protagonist trying to escape the stadium as they try and escape the illogical dumbness of the film itself. It's not a banner week of recommendations but there are laughs to be had as usual. This podcast is powered by Pinecast.
Episode Notes In Space Nobody Can Hear You Podcast. This week, Lorraine and Will are trying to get to a sunnier planet just as their Summer holidays come to an end. If they could just get there without one of those pesky facehuggers ruining their plans, that'd be sweet. Before they head off, they are reviewing the latest installment in the Alien saga, Alien: Romulus. Will they survive? Will it be revealed that Lorraine's youthful appearance is because she's an Android living amongst us undetected? Or is Will going to look too closely into a leathery egg only to get a face hug from a space-crab? There's only one way to find out. Then, they go even further north. To Belfast, this time. Kneecap are having their madcap, semi-made-up adventures, as Gaeilge. Is it a fresh new Irish take on the meeting of drugs, music and the Irish language, or is it Trainspotting from Wish.com? Again, there's only one way to....y'know.... This podcast is powered by Pinecast.
Episode Notes This week finds Lorraine, Will and three non-descript second-row band members pretending to harmonise, singing a soppy ballad to a group of kids in a school gym before being bundled into a van for two more shows that day. Our heroes review new Netflix documentary, Dirty Pop, and find out the sordid story behind the backs of The Backstreet Boys and NSYNC. Who will turn out to be the Harry Styles of Pop Filter? One look at this weeks episode photo on Facebook will answer that question. Next up, Will goes to the parallel bars while Lorraine takes a run towards the vault and hopes her case of The Twisties is behind her as they give their thoughts on Netflix documentary mini-series, Simone Biles Rising. Will soon finds it more difficult than he anticipated to actually get onto the parallel bars, while Lorraine's case of The Twisties kicks in well before the actual vault, resulting in a spectacular fall and ten severely stubbed toes. Write to your heroes via Facebook or popfilter1000@gmail.com This podcast is powered by Pinecast.
Episode Notes If you let Lorraine Harton and Will in now, it could be niiiiice. Our heroes return with a murder special. First up is Silence of The Lambs wannabe, Longlegs, where Nicolas Cage says the Devil made him do that stupid song he does. Can Lorraine Harton or Will make any sense of the plot of this runaway success or are they just confused and astonished at the things very ordinary people say or don't say as much as they are with the unhinged, talcum-powdered madness of Longlegs himself? Just as gruesomely followed up by the tale of Dublin's notorious Scissor Sisters. A new documentary series from Amazon about the discovery of (most of) a body in a Dublin canal and the efforts involved to figure out who it was and who put them there. There are some mild spoilers for Longlegs but they are signposted. Here's the Elvis Perkins (brother of the director) song that Will mentioned too. It's called While You Were Sleeping and not 'something about babies' as Will said. There are babies mentioned in the first line, though. https://youtu.be/RmTknSOW0xk?si=Y_XoLC90Iw7P_1mh This podcast is powered by Pinecast.
Episode Notes Will can barely contain his excitement as his old pal, Lorraine Harton, returns from her explorations in The East, where she was in search of exotic spices and the finest silks. This week our reunited duo take on a firm favourite as Disney+ returns The Bear to our screens. 8 episodes of delicious food getting chucked in the bin just because the jus made from squirrel's tears was overdone by 2 seconds. The dessert course this week is the new Amazon Prime documentary, I Am Celine Dion, in which the singer of the title tackles ageing and the poorly-named Stiff Person Syndrome to remind us all what a talented performer she was. Results will vary based on your tolerance to some quite strong cheese. This podcast is powered by Pinecast.
Episode Notes Will Holds down the fort for another show as Lorraine is currently en route to Tokyo from Kyoto. Or maybe the other way around. There aren't many places where you can from one city to another where both cities are anagrams of each other. Stepping into the breech this week is their old pal, Dave Curran. Dave is a friend and colleague from Coláiste Dhúlaigh like Nicky from the last show. Dave was the host of a podcast called Inspireland where Pop Filter got it's start by putting out episodes under the Inspireland banner. Inspireland is still available and is an excellent podcast with a wide range of guests including filmmaker Mark Cousins, documentarian Kirby Ferguson, author Jon Ronson and many more. https://podcasts.apple.com/ie/podcast/inspireland-podcast/id840302259 This week, Dave and Will look at season 1 of Reservation Dogs and find a magical group of Native American teenagers and their struggle to escape the Oklahoma reservation they live in to go to California. After that, talk turns to the decade-long decline in the relationship between rappers, Drake and Kendrick Lamarr. All of which has been documented in a string of diss tracks that have gone from arguing about who's the best rapper to much more serious and personal allegations. Can two white Irishmen figure this one out? Of course! Write to Will and Lorraine via their futuristic and never-getting-old email address popfilter1000@gmail.com This podcast is powered by Pinecast.
Episode Notes This week, Lorraine is off helping the Japanese authorities with some podcasting issues they're having, so Will has turned to his old Podcast pal, Nicky Coghlan. Will and Nicky started making a podcast 15 years ago. Everyone has a podcast now but not 15 years ago they didn't! Will and Nicky talk about twisty-turny anthology series, Inside No. 9, which is currently heading for it's last ever episode. There are 9 series and you can watch the episodes in any order you like. You could do that with any series, really, but in this case, it makes no difference. After that, the boys are transported back to a time when you could listen to music in crisp digital audio on your brand new discman, but only if you carried it around like a waiter would a tray of champagne flutes. The album on that discman? Moon Safari by Gallic lounge-futurists, Air. Thanks to Nicky for stepping in and taking the time to do this! You're the best, Nickers. This podcast is powered by Pinecast.
Episode Notes After three (kind of)themed shows 'Fallout' and 'The Fall Guy', Pop Filthers week of rudeness with Challengers and Ashley Madison, and then the Anne Hathaway bonanza, this weeks theme is....the letter B. Our pals, Lorraine and Will, talk about Irish Twin Peaks wannabe show, Bodkin, and Billie Eilish's new album, Hit Me Hard & Soft. As podcasters themselves, can Lorraine and Will attest to the faithfulness of Bodkin's representation of podcasters versus traditional journalists? Also, can Billie convince our heroes to hit her both hard AND soft? There's only one way to find out on this weeks episode of Pop Filter. This podcast is powered by Pinecast.
Episode Notes Are you a Hathahater or a Fan Hathaway? Either way, our trusted heroes have a show for you. Anne Hathaway is back with a pair of films of varying quality (within each film as well as when compared to each other). First up it's Hitchcockian grief-drama, Mother's Instinct. Can Lorraine or Will deduce just who is losing their mind between Jessica Chastain and Anne Hathaway? They've got 90 minutes to figure it out. Next up is cradle-robbing, music drama, The Idea Of You, wherein Anne Hathaway has to pretend she doesn't look amazing for a woman of any age, let alone, her current age. It's the acting challenge of a lifetime! Write to your heroes at popfilter1000@gmail.com or leave them a review on your podcast platform of choice. Facebook, instagram. Get in touch! Episode Notes This week Pop Filter HQ is now Pop FILTHER as our heroes look at the erotic tennis world of mixed thruples with new sports drama, Challengers. Love-All? It's more like Lust-All! After that it's the latest in a relatively short string of documentaries on the hacking of marriage stress-test site, Ashley Madison, where it seems like 35 million men were telling 4 women that their wives didn't understand them. Write to your pals, Will and Lorraine, via popfilter1000@gmail.com. Please rate us on your podcast server of choice. Episode Notes It's Fall Preview time at Pop Filter HQ as our heroes deliver not one, but two, items for review that have the word 'Fall' in their titles. That's where the concept ends. Don't go looking for hidden meanings. This idea is a mile wide and a millimetre deep. Can Lorraine successfully make Amazon Prime's 'Fallout' one of her famous "Dinner Shows" or will it be too gruesome for Lorraine to enjoy her curry super-noodles and fish fingers? Can Will get past his nostalgia for Lee Majors and his love for Heather Thomas in the original TV show to give 2024's version a fair shake? This week's episode has all the answers. Find out more at https://pop-filter.pinecast.co This podcast is powered by Pinecast.
Episode Notes This week our heroes test themselves by reviewing a thing that they don't like as much as they'd like to. Not much of a challenge, to be fair, but what if they told you they were reviewing Jennifer Lopez's new documentary, The Greatest Love Story NEVER Told? How would you feel about that? Well, Lorraine and Will want you to know that if they've made even one person feel that podcasting is possible, it will all have been worth it! Next up our guys bring you fresh new Irish music in the form of OisÃn Leech's debut album, Cold Sea. To learn more about this weeks featured artists, check out Amazon Prime for J. Lo's documentary and Spotify/Apple Music etc and oisinleechmusic.com for info on their boy, OisÃn Leech, and his upcoming shows. Episode Notes This week our heroes go over to the dark side. First off, they wrestle alongside Amy Winehouse with her demons in the new biopic, Back to Black. Then it's on to much more traditional demons in the form of late-night talk show horror film, Late Night With The Devil, where the main guest is actually....well the title kind of spoils it a bit. Don't forget, you can contact your new favourite radio hosts via their ultra-modern, nay futuristic, email address popfilter1000@gmail.com Be their first correspondent and they'll definitely read out your (hopefully non-creepy) comments. Suggestions for future reviews all welcome. Enjoy! Find out more at https://pop-filter.pinecast.co This podcast is powered by Pinecast.
Episode Notes Our heroes return for a triumphant second episode on Near FM (90.3FM/nearfm.ie) secure in the knowledge that last weeks episode was a huge hit or nobody with the power to cancel the show was listening. Either way, episode two is 'GO!' This week, the team tackle Netflix psychodrama, Baby Reindeer, which proves to be an uncomfortable topic given the fact that Will sends dozens of texts and emails to Lorraine every day. It's mostly just him moaning about stuff, but still... After that it is onto an unlikely choice from our daring duo with Beyonce's 8th studio album, Cowboy Carter. If you want to hear two grown adults whining about having to sit through 27 songs over 80 minutes, you have come to the right place. Send the guys a question or comment via popfilter1000@gmail.com Find out more at https://pop-filter.pinecast.co This podcast is powered by Pinecast.
Episode Notes We have a message for you.... from yer farder!!! It'll make sense once you've heard the episode. Exciting times in Pop Filter HQ. Our heroes have struck a deal with Near FM ( www.nearfm.ie ) to host the show. From now on, you can hear the episode between 7 and 8 by listening live on the website or by tuning in to 90.3FM. Either way, the show should appear in your podcast feed as soon as the episode finishes airing on Near FM. This week, Lorraine and Will hit the road with Alex Garland's new movie, Civil War. Soon after, madness descends as our heroes discuss the acting choices of Ireland's (one-time) favourite son in his first acting role in Doug Liman's "Roadhouse'. Do the guys a favour and click on the link to listen live or listen later on Near FM. Find out more at https://pop-filter.pinecast.co This podcast is powered by Pinecast.
Episode Notes So good they recorded it twice! Our heroes return with a vengeance after the debacle of one of them losing the SD card containing their first recording of this episode. Will insists there is no need for anyone to know who lost the card. This time, our favourite podcasting duo tackle two films which drove them to tears, The Iron Claw and All Of Us Strangers. They also tackle the series 'One Day' which drove Will to tears of boredom. Lorraine is far more patient than he is. There are spoilers but they are signalled in advance. If you are skipping ahead to avoid spoilers once they've been signposted, here are the time stamps for each section. It's at this point, I realised that Will forgot to record his One Day intro. Time for him to shuffle off to the podcast retirement home. The Iron Claw: 2:18 All Of Us Strangers: 44:15 One Day: 1:04:55 Find out more at https://pop-filter.pinecast.co This podcast is powered by Pinecast.
Episode Notes This week's show is like an old issue of Heat magazine come back from beyond the grave. Lorraine and Will tackle some 90's icons in the form of Robbie Williams and his Netflix documentary series, Britney Spears long awaited autobiography and footballers wives camp docuseries, Wagatha Christie. Are these going to be the same old artist produced and carefully edited self promotional pieces? The likes of which they recently discussed in their Beckham episode? Yes. Yes, they are, but our heroes have fun discussing them. Find out more at https://pop-filter.pinecast.co This podcast is powered by Pinecast.
This week, our heroes are involved in a classic relegation battle to keep the podcast in the Premiership. With star-player, Lorraine, already eyeing a lucrative move to Freedom FM UTD and Will looking to play out his twilight playing years with a spell in Saudi Arabia, this is a make or break game for Pop Filter FC. With this in mind, who better to cast their eyes over new Netflix documentary series, Beckham, than these two? So, it's a game of two halves for these plucky newcomers and it's all to play for. Can they avoid a penalty shoot out? Will there be shots of children crying into their Pop Filter FC scarves? It's time for the kick-off. Find out more at https://pop-filter.pinecast.co This podcast is powered by Pinecast.
Episode Notes This week, Lorraine and Will get their wetsuits on and head into the Abyss with deep-sea documentary, The Deepest Breath. They get into spoiler territory but it's clearly announced in the episode and the time stamps are below. After that, they give their thoughts on smooth, electro-poppers Destroyers album, Kaputt. This comes from their long-term listener pal, Shane. Time stamps. Spoiler section for The Deepest Breath 18' 10" - 44' 08" Kaputt by Destroyer 44' 10" Find out more at https://pop-filter.pinecast.co This podcast is powered by Pinecast.
Episode Notes This latest episode shows our heroes in full compliance with Podcast Law and delivering an episode where they discuss the phenomenon of Barbenheimer. This law states that every pop culture podcast must review both Barbie and Oppenheimer and Lorraine and Will, being law-abiding citizens, are happy to do their part. After an episode where they disliked both things they reviewed, can they turn the ship around and find things to recommend to you? Hopefully you'll be able to find these obscure titles in your local arthouse cinema. Now, will Barbie be a bomb or will it explode at the box office? Will Oppenheimer annihilate the box office or will the fallout be career-ending for Nolan? Join your guides to find out. Barbie 4:00 - 43:40 Oppenheimer 44:40 - 71:00 Find out more at https://pop-filter.pinecast.co This podcast is powered by Pinecast.
Episode Notes Today our heroes, Lorraine and Will celebrate Episode 40 of the show and in that spirit they celebrate with two pieces of pop culture that they struggle to say much good about! This week, thanks to Pop Filter superfan, Reese Martin Will and Lorraine are including timestamps in case you want to avoid or jump to certain sections of the podcast to avoid spoilers, although those are generally avoided any way. And Just Like That is from 2.50 to 31.30 The Idol is from 31.40 to 56.00 Let's see how long it takes Reese to spot this and write in and let Will and Lorraine know. Enjoy. Episode Notes Ramblings Episode 4, wherein our heroes wrestle with being grown-ups and discuss the various ways they have had to disguise the fact that they don't always know what they're doing and whether they truly deserve the label 'adult'. With head-spinning speed, Lorraine and Will return with a new episode. This one isn't, on the surface, their usual high-brow fare. This episode is all about Aussie reality-show nightmare fever-dream, Married At First Sight. Listen to Will and Lorraine talk about how much they hate Harrison and how much they wish Cam would just be nicer to Lyndall. In amongst this, they try to make some wider observations about reality TV and people's lack of understanding of the power of TV and instant celebrity. You can be the judge of whether they succeed. There are some spoilers so it would help if you were at least up to episode 23 like Lorraine! Find out more at https://pop-filter.pinecast.co This podcast is powered by Pinecast.
Episode Notes This week, Lorraine emerges victorious when she offloads two pre-recorded intros onto Will. In a desperate act of self-sabotage, Will submits two of his shoddiest efforts to date with a triumphant 'That'll learn her!' This weeks show features Chris Rock's return to stand-up now that the swelling has gone down, Selective Outrage. Next up is Channel 4 series, Outed, which covers the time George Michael's career was threatened by revelations about his personal life until George reminded everyone he was just a 'young gun having some fun'. Something he'd told us from day one in Wham! Finally, on a more sombre note, Finding Michael. The story of Michael Matthews, at the time the youngest person to summit Mt Everest at 22 only to lose his life on the descent. His brother, Spencer, mounts a rescue attempt for what might be his brother's body which has recently been spotted on the mountain by another climber. There's no jokes to be had here! Episode Notes This week, our heroes tackle the world of classical music-based cancel culture and because they are a couple of fungiis (fun guys) they also take on mushroom-based zombie show, The Last Of Us. Will is a musician without training who Lorraine rightly suspects is suspicious of conductors. Lorraine is someone who doesn't play games and doesn't like zombies. The scene is set for neither to be completely happy. Will Lorraine defeat the final boss of The Last Of Us and could Will lead the standing ovation for Tar? There is only one way to find out. Find out more at https://pop-filter.pinecast.co This podcast is powered by Pinecast.
Episode Notes This week, the unimaginable happens to Will: U2 have taken some of his money. And he's ok with that. Lorraine and Will tackle Bono's epic, rambling autobiographical audiobook 'Surrender: 40 Songs, One Story' and gain a new appreciation of their countries most famous son. Then it's on to 'Real-Estate horror' film, Barbarian. Lorraine is wary of gory horror movies and this one has the guy from IT in it, so it doesn't bode well. Finally, they tackle season 5 of The Crown where they discuss everything from how funny the name 'Debicki' is and the arrival of 'The Dodi' into the royal family's lives. Even more finally, Will recommends his friend Mike's album. It's called Birds and the band are M Stevens & The Ghosts. Check them out here. https://mstevenstheghasts.bandcamp.com Find out more at https://pop-filter.pinecast.co
Episode Notes In today's episode, Lorraine and Will return to their occasional feature; Ramblings. This is where they step away from pop culture and muse on things more sociological. Maybe. They don't really know. Today, they are tackling the topic of the lies we tell to children. Will chewing gum REALLY tie up your intestines? Did your dog REALLY go to live on a farm that time? Lorraine and Will have the answers. Find out more at https://pop-filter.pinecast.co This podcast is powered by Pinecast.
Episode Notes In this episode our heroes take on, and defeat, The Most Hated Man On The Internet. Netflix's new 3 episode documentary on the loathsome Hunter Moore and his revenge porn website incites new levels of rage in Will and Lorraine towards all purveyors of toxic masculinity. The pair of SJW, virtue-signallers that they are! They also review Nathan Fielders new documentary/reality show/mockumentary/drama/whatever-it-is show, The Rehearsal. Is it real? Is it fake? Bit of both? Our heroes will find out for you. Find out more at https://pop-filter.pinecast.co This podcast is powered by Pinecast.
Episode Notes This week, Will and Lorraine are joined in conversation by our friend, Con Colbert, to have a friendly conversation about Conversations With Friends. That's not confusing at all. Unlike the protagonists of C's with F's, they are not a trio of bumbling, mumbling losers! They're a great bunch of lads altogether. Con also recommended O Emperor's album 'Jason' for our heroes to review. Find out more at https://pop-filter.pinecast.co This podcast is powered by Pinecast.
Episode Notes In a new feature called The Culture Gap, Lorraine and Will help each other out by recommending significant pop culture texts that the other has missed or avoided. Unbelievably, Lorraine had never seen Star Wars before this episode and perhaps even more unbelievably, Will had never seen Romy & Michelle's High School Reunion. Rest assured both of those issues are fixed! Find out more at https://pop-filter.pinecast.co This podcast is powered by Pinecast.
Episode Notes It's a week of time travelling to the 70s for Will and the 90s for Lorraine as they relive elements of their childhood by reviewing Paul Thomas Anderson's Licorice Pizza and the Sex & The City reboot, And Just Like That. Lorraine would like it pointed out that at the time of review she had not seen Episode 8 of And Just Like That. Have the Sex & The City ladies mellowed with age into a Golden Girls for the 21st century and will the shenanigans of the 70's sit well with out more modern sensibilities? IT WAS A DIFFERENT TIME! Episode Notes The long and winding road has brought our first and only guest back to our door. We welcome our old pal, Dave Curran, back to the show. This week, the fab 3 discuss the fab 4 as we take on Peter Jackson's 3 part, 8 hour documentary series on Disney Plus, Get Back. Is George the quiet one or the cranky one? Is Paul McCartney the owner of the worlds best beard-and-hair combination? Is John looking surprisingly good despite the heroin dabbling? And is Ringo as good a drummer as he is a person? The answers are at the end of the aforementioned long and winding road. Find out more at https://pop-filter.pinecast.co This podcast is powered by Pinecast.
Episode Notes This week, Lorraine and Will review a wooly tale from the A24 stable called Lamb. Can they resist a string of sheep puns or is this something they simply mutton do? What do ewe think? After that, it's turn of Richard Dawson and his 1999 album called 2020. It's not as confusing as they'd feared. All rounded off with some choice recommendations from the host. Enjoy. Episode Notes This week our heroes endeavour to blow your mind by offering you the red pill from The Matrix. Or is it the blue one? The one that makes you see things as they really are! That one! Things you thought you knew, things you took comfort in... Lorraine and Will are here to turn your world UPSIDEFLIPPINGDOWN! Think you'll catch a cold if you go out with wet hair, do you? Or even WETH hair as our heroes both refer to it in unison at one point. If that's what you think...brace yourself! Episode Notes Episode 26 of Pop Filter finds our heroes on an Arthurian quest even though one of them doesn't know it's an Arthurian one at all. Lorraine and Will take on David Lowery's The Green Knight but they won't make the mistake that Sir Gawain makes. Instead, they give the Green Knight a wedgie and tell him we'll see him next Christmas. It'll make sense when you see the film. They also examine The Witness, a new podcast about the first person in Ireland to enter the Witness Protection programme after years of abuse, having been brought unwillingly into the drugs world as a child. It's kind of grim so no jokes here! Finally, Kanye West's 10th album, Donda, dropped a few weeks back. Dropped is what the kids say! As I type this, Will and Lorraine are comparing gang signs in the background. It's what the kids want. They cast their critical eye over this bloated indulgence and find it....wanting. Episode Notes This week, our heroes discuss the new Woodstock 99 documentary and get annoyed by toxic masculinity and terrible music. It's been many a year since Will was last on the pole but he and Lorraine both enjoyed pole-dancing nightmare film, Zola. Finally enjoy Lorraine struggling to pronounce the singer of this weeks album choice, Tove Styrke. Will gets it wrong too but he is confident in his correctness the way only a white man can be. Enjoy. Find out more at https://pop-filter.pinecast.co This podcast is powered by Pinecast.
Episode Notes Today marks the launch of a different kind of podcast from Lorraine and Will. This time they are off rambling on a specific non pop-culture subject; Words & Phrases. Hear Lorraine's mind being blown in realtime when she discovers that a damp squid is not what she thought it was and hear Wills moral quandary about using 'my friend and I' or 'my friend and me' correctly, when he knows there are people who will think he's gotten it wrong if he uses the word 'me' in this context. It's a packed half hour and Lorraine and Will had a splendid time making it. Find out more at https://pop-filter.pinecast.co This podcast is powered by Pinecast.
Episode Notes Lorraine and Will here... just calling to say we love you. Y'know...like Stevie Wonder would. This week we are giving our rambling thoughts on Aisling Bea's second series of This Way Up. Then, oops we did it again and are reviewing another podcast series: BBC Sounds' Pieces of Britney. We end with our friend and Inspireland podcast host, Dave Curran's album recommendation: Stevie Wonder's Songs In The Key Of Life. Check out Inspireland which also contains the first 4 or 5 episodes of Pop Filter among its episodes. https://podcasts.apple.com/ie/podcast/inspireland-podcast/id840302259 Find out more at https://pop-filter.pinecast.co This podcast is powered by Pinecast.
Episode Notes One subject, three different takes. It's rare enough that you get different documentaries on the same topic at the same time but here we are. Spanning over 2 decades and featuring a wide range of characters, it is a tragic and frustrating case. Can Detectives Lorraine and Will solve this one? Episode Notes This week, Lorraine and Will cast their ears over Sinead O'Connors audiobook autobiography (or is it a memoir?), Rememberings. Mad stories about Prince and many others delight our hosts. Then the eyes join in for the Friends Reunion show. Lorraine (young) is very harsh on the botoxed Friends, while Will (old) is much more forgiving. Finally, you've got the rest of the show off, eyes! Metro Area's eponymously titled 2002 album comes under scrutiny. Will was too harsh on it and is now enjoying it much more by listening to it on headphones rather than in the car. Episode Notes This week, our heroes discuss 3 separate items from 3 separate mediums! Exciting. We discuss Matt Haig's latest novel, The Midnight Library. Will read it and Lorraine listened to it, so that brings this weeks medium count to 4. After that we discussed Channel 4's new comedy, Frank of Ireland. Listen to the end to hear Lorraine get her revenge on Will for making her listen to Wilco's album A Ghost Is Born. Her weapon of choice? Luxury Problems by Andy Stott (the milkman's favourite tunesmith). Find out more at https://pop-filter.pinecast.co This podcast is powered by Pinecast.
Episode Notes First up, Lorraine and Will talk about the Netflix documentary, Seaspiracy, or to be more accurate, the filmmakers' abject failure to use the much better title, Conspirasea. They follow up with a discussion on Sky's new film purchase, Promising Young Woman, a story that will hopefully make men of a certain attitude reconsider their life choices. Finally, Will totally misjudges his old friends' musical taste and steals nearly three hours of her life with 2 full listens of the Deluxe Expanded version of Wilco's 2004 album, A Ghost Is Born.
