Send us a textOn this weeks episode, we take a listen to a true Texas legend, Jimmie Dale Gilmore, and his 1993, Spinning Around the Sun.With his high, lonesome voice, Jimmy Dale embodies the very essence of that land from which he hails, the Texas Panhandle. Even thought he was in his forties when his first solo album was recorded, he had already made his mark on the musical landscape of the Lone Star State, having been in the legendary Flatlanders (along with Joe Ely and Butch Hancock) and the Hub City Movers (the first band to play the Armadillo World Headquarters). By the time he recorded his fourth solo outing, Spinning Around the Sun, Jimmie Dale had found his voice. Hailed as his break out LP, Jimmie Dale sings his heart out on songs he penned and a choice selections of tunes written by other notable songwriters, and features fantastic duet with Lucinda Williams. Spinning Around the Sun is a remarkable album filled with songs of beauty and heartbreak, earning him his first of three Grammy nominations. Visit us at www.tappingvinyl.com.

The Goddess, The Queen. I have been a Kylie Minogue fan since she first released "The Locomotion" as a charity single back in 1987. Back in those days it was the Tweens and the Gays who were her loyal fan base but as Kylie matured, so did her music and her style. Her unique ability to reinvent herself without losing sight of herself and always being incredibly generous to her fans has kept her relevant in the changing landscape of pop music. I have been to all but one of her concert tours in Australia and I make no apologies for that. A few years back, an amazing thing happened in Kylie land, at least as far as I'm concerned anyway. The extraordinarily talented Mark from Dirty Disco started remixing her more recent single releases from her albums "Disco", "Tension" and "Tension ll". He also took on two of her global classics "Spinning Around" and "Can't Get You Out Of My Head". For me personally, this is the best thing that could have happened to Kylie's music on the dance floor. I've always thought that a lot of her remixes on past hits always seemed to be lacking punch or drive. Not the case with Dirty Disco. Mark takes her songs and completely rebuilds them into stomping dance floor anthems. In honor of her latest Australian tour, (which I will be attending on March 3rd this year), I've put together an anthology of Mark's remixes for Kylie to help prep the fan base for her tour. Kylie and Dirty Disco - this really is a match made in heaven. In this latest episode of the Buddhist Voices podcast, we take a deep dive into the life and transformative journey of our guest, Dharmachari Samasuri. Our guest's journey began whilst struggling her way through medical school in London. Sharing a house with long time friend Karunamati when she found herself on the brink of a breakdown. Amidst the backdrop of Glastonbury Festival, she fondly remembers marching up to the Buddhafield tent to learn meditation. Having grown up in South Devon, Samasauri has always had a strong connection with nature, and the mythic dimension of practice. The warmth of the people she encountered, the sense of belonging, and the unique enchantment of rituals led by Varabhadri on her inaugural retreat with the London Buddhist Centre resonate vividly in her memory. The narrative expands further as we delve into Samasuri's experiences on Buddhafield family retreats. Embracing the chaos of being on retreat with her two children and finding extraordinary ways to integrate practice into her family routines. These retreats not only impacted her but also nurtured a sense of Dharma practice within her children, offering them glimpses into the mythic realm and ethical living. Satyalila gracefully opens up the challenges of being a parent within our movement in the past as Samasuri shares in her own experience of deciding to become a mother and the strong upsurge of maternal instinct that arose in her early 30's. Describing needing to seek wider support from the Steiner movement. The episode concludes with a reflection on her yidam, Mamaki, the yellow female buddha of the east and the resonance with her ordained name, meaning "equanimous heroine". Evoking a powerful connection. As Samasuri navigates her spiritual journey, equanimity has become an important guiding principle, embracing abundance without getting overwhelmed. From an interview conducted for the Fifty Years, Fifty Voices project, our online project to document 50+ years of people's commitment and practice within the Triratna Buddhist Order around the world. I always love talking to producers and Mike Spencer is one of the very best with an incredible history of superbly made records for a wide variety of artist from Gabrielle Aplin and Tom Walker to Kylie and Zara Larsson. He's also responsible for so many of my favourite records of all time including "Heaven" by Emile Sande, "Spinning Around" by Kylie, "Salvation" by Gabrielle Aplin and the truly epic "Once" for Diana Vickers. We speak about all of these and more including how he got his first breaks as part of UK Dance act Definition Of Sound through to how he works at his incredible studio "The Larks Tongue" which is now entirely self sufficient as an energy source and home to ducks, geese and most recently otters (which we also talk about in a SAFG first!). It was such a joy chatting to him and I loved every minute of this episode , hope everyone enjoys the stories and truly inspiring journey of one of our true production gems from the UK. In this episode: Waiting for Spring already! Twitter Takeover, and I hope it survives and continues to be a platform for the voiceless and the underdogs. Competition is good, and that's why politics, businesses, and individuals need competitors and opponents. Good to see California setting a way forward to learn about the generational effects of racist policies and then plan to correct it through reparations. The antidote to slavery, war, and colonization is reparations. It's called Football—what a great FIFA World Cup Tournament, and what a great Argentina Vs. France World Cup Final. I was hooked! Yollks is a producer/DJ and vocalist based in Naarm who co-runs label and club night 'Fluxx' alongside House Mum. Tied together with catchy samples, rushing breaks, hard hitting bass hooks and dirty synths, Yollks' sound ignites an air of euphoria whilst also allowing one to be grounded in fast paced beats and rhythm on the dance floor. She has a keen ear for anything breakbeat, DnB, and electro oriented - and Yollks channels this into high energy twists and turns that are prominent in both her DJ sets as well as her own productions. This has seen her support internationally acclaimed artists HAAi, Tred, X CLUB., AK Sports and Kessler. Yollks' releases can be found on labels such as Inner Theft, Local Knowledge, Phenomena, Spinning Around and Fluxx and she has also created mixes for the likes of Steel City Dance Discs, Threads Radio and more. @yollks ====================================================== ALWAYS LIVE & Novel Present Caribou (Live) - Forum Melbourne Sun 11th Dec, 7PM - 10:30PM Forum Melbourne Lineup: Caribou (Live) + Marli www.facebook.com/events/470204424972581/ ALWAYS LIVE & Novel Present Caribou (Live) - Forum Melbourne - 2nd Show Mon 12th Dec, 7PM - 10:30PM Forum Melbourne Lineup: Caribou (Live) + Marli www.facebook.com/events/1247529916025405/ Let Them Eat Cake NYD 2023 Sun 1st Jan 2023, 12PM - 10:30PM Werribee Mansion Lineup: ANNA . A staple within the Eora music scene, Harley Ferris has aligned himself with the turbo sounds of prog, trance, and techno. With a solid foundation built under his previous moniker ‘Precursors', a progressive house duo, Harley Ferris as a solo artist has proven his abilities, having just released his debut EP ‘Collider' on Naarm-based label Spinning Around. Dripping with lush synths, rolling baselines, and heavy club-ready drum patterns, the 4-track prog release is a stunning entry into Harley's journey as a solo artist. This mix follows beautifully in suit, journeying through 60 minutes of prog, trance, and techno, optimal for any after-dark antics on the dancefloor. @harleyferriss ====================================================== Goodroom with James Pepper Sun 16th Oct, 7:30PM - 3AM Electric Lineup: HAUSWIFE, JARVIS, KOVAC + Rob Anthony www.facebook.com/events/431643652432952/ Novel & ATET presents Late Nite Tuff Guy Sun 23rd Oct, 1PM - 1AM ATET, 1 N Wharf Rd, Docklands Lineup: Late Nite Tuff Guy, Joey Coco, Marli, Shanti + Tinika www.facebook.com/events/609391317587878 Novel & ATET presents Paramida Sun 30th Oct, 1PM - 1AM ATET, 1 N Wharf Rd, Docklands Lineup: Paramida, Char, Fader Cap, Maro, Millú + Reflex Blue www.facebook.com/events/410240797763511 Friends Of Friends with Omar-S Sun 30th Oct, 2PM - 10PM Bourke Street Courtyard Lineup: Omar-S, Anna B, Ben Fester, Floss Dogg, Genki Tanaka, Marli, Peteza + Ryan Berkeley www.facebook.com/events/1237643853738174/ React with Paramida - Bourke Street Courtyard Fri 4th Nov, 10PM - 5AM Bourke Street Courtyard Lineup: Paramida, Aldonna, Hex Editor, Lums World, Missé, Ricky Nord, DJ Seen + Willem www.facebook.com/events/5981128931910923 Nights Like This with Dusky, Marcel Dettmann + SPFDJ Fri 18th Nov, 10PM - 5AM Home The Venue Lineup: Dusky, Marcel Dettmann, SPFDJ, Bella Claxton, James Pepper, Willem + more www.facebook.com/events/1246917529456614/ Smalltown Street Rave with Dusky, Marcel Dettmann + SPFDJ Sat 19th Nov, 12PM - 10PM Graham St, Port Melbourne Lineup: Dusky, Marcel Dettmann, SPFDJ, X-Coast, Emma Renée + Yarra www.facebook.com/events/1024871358159337 ALWAYS LIVE & Novel Present Caribou (Live) - Forum Melbourne Sun 11th Dec, 7PM - 10:30PM Forum Melbourne Lineup: Caribou (Live) + Marli www.facebook.com/events/470204424972581/ ALWAYS LIVE & Novel Present Caribou (Live) - Forum Melbourne - 2nd Show Mon 12th Dec, 7PM - 10:30PM Forum Melbourne Lineup: Caribou (Live) + Marli www.facebook.com/events/1247529916025405/ Let Them Eat Cake NYD 2023 Sun 1st Jan 2023, 12PM - 10:30PM Werribee Mansion Lineup: ANNA . As you may know, both of us are new high schoolers. Life is changing for us. There are so many sports and clubs to explore, new friends to make, and other new responsibilities. We're both juggling so many commitments, and sometimes, begin to question the purpose of our busy lives. We, therefore, invite a few University of Michigan students to this podcast to share their high school experiences. Some focused on sports, while some took time to explore various possibilities in a young life. They all navigated through their own uniquely different paths, but all came to (or stayed in!) Ann Arbor for college. We're hoping to gain more insight as to how to traverse through these young years from people with first-hand experience. Our first guest Selina is a freshman at the University of Michigan. She is multi-talented in music and an outstanding athlete who has spent thousands of hours on the ice in her high school years. She holds the Guinness World Record of most figure skating sit spin rotations in one minute!
Lleyton, Peter, Ben, Cream & Damon (sorta) discuss it all:
We are Spinning Around with excitement for this episode! We're discussing an unquestionable icon, Kylie Minogue. Although a familiar name to many, do you know much of her film career? We decided to take a Step Back In Time with the Princess of Pop and take a closer look ourselves. We discuss her film beginnings in The Delinquents and Street Fighter before dancing through the years whilst not missing the opportunity to gush about beloved favourites Holy Motors and of course Moulin Rouge! where she plays The Green Fairy. Kylie we can't get you out of our heads and hopefully you won't be able to either. So please come join us once again. We are celebrating the milestone of our 150th episode with our good friend Dr. Susan Friedman. Our conversation lasted the better part of an afternoon so our celebration is continuing on over several weeks. Last week Susan shared with us three simple questions that help her clients solve their animal training puzzles. This week we're going to have a change of topic. We're going to take a very deep dive into the ABCs of training. We discuss some head spinning topics including nonlinear analysis and this quote from Dr. Hank Schlinger: Reinforcers don't strengthen behavior, they strengthen cues. You can find out what that's about in this week's podcast. Enjoy!
Light Years is the seventh studio album by Australian singer Kylie Minogue. It was released on 22 September 2000 in Australia by Mushroom Records, and later on 25 September 2000 in the United Kingdom by Parlophone. Following the commercial failure of Impossible Princess (1997), Minogue departed with Deconstruction and took a hiatus from recording music. She signed with Parlophone in June 1999, and decided to go back to her pop roots. She worked with various writers and producers, including Steve Anderson, Johnny Douglas, Robbie Williams, Guy Chambers, and Mark Picchiotti. Light Years is a dance-pop, disco, and Europop album that made references to music from the 1970s. Lyrically, the album touches upon themes of women's empowerment, celebration, and sex in a cheeky and campy approach. It received favourable reviews from music critics, many of whom complimented Minogue's return to pop and considered the album to be one of Minogue's strongest releases. The album won the ARIA Award for Best Female Artist and Best Pop Release at the 2001 ceremony. The album peaked at the top position on the Australian Albums Chart, making it Minogue's first number-one album in her native Australia. It also reached the top 10 in Scotland and New Zealand. Five singles were released from Light Years, including the Australia number-one singles "Spinning Around" and "On a Night Like This", as well as the top 20 entries "Kids" and "Please Stay". All four peaked inside the top 10 in the UK. The final single, "Your Disco Needs You" was limitedly released in Australia and Germany. It was further promoted with the On a Night Like This Tour, which visited Europe and Australia from March to May 2001. The tour was once the biggest by a solo artist in Australia, grossing U.S. $5 million. The album was re-issued in Europe in 2018 and returned to the UK Albums Chart and the Scottish Albums Chart.

Highly Minogue is the co-founder of local crew Extended Family and a producer who dabbles in fun, infectious garage and house rhythms. He is also the host of Spinning Around on Area 3000, a weekly show which airs every Monday featuring guest mixes and interviews. On this impressive 23-track mix, he tinkers with many genres ranging from UK funky to acid house and even some jungle (and everything in between). It's a dense journey that leans towards the percussive and darker side of the dance music spectrum. *Highly dedicates this mix to Extended Family crewmate Winnie the Wu (@winniethewu), who blessed him with the wisdom to spread his wings on this mix. @highly_minogue @extendedfamilydjs ==================================================== Darklove w/ Traxion Saturday 17th July, 10PM - 5AM @ Colour Support: Sindy, Big-Mac, Bryn D, Ham, Eric Stark https://www.facebook.com/events/196920505668803 Novel pres. Jess is joined by American Idol judge and legendary songwriter Kara DioGuardi to reflect on her incredible contributions to pop music throughout the 2000s. We go deep on the stories behind writing iconic songs, including: Kylie Minogue's "Spinning Around," Pink’s “Sober,” Christina Aguilera’s “Ain’t No Other Man,” Kelly Clarkson’s “Walk Away,” Britney’s Blackout album, and co-writing the bulk of Ashlee Simpson and Lindsay Lohan’s albums. Kara also reflects on helping to secure Adam Lambert’s spot on American Idol, and her experience on Bravo’s songwriting competition show Platinum Hit. Follow @jessxnyc & @hottakesdeepdives
Spinning around →
It's that time of the year again. Sydney's annual Mardi Gras festival and party is on, although this year it is a far more scaled back event due to Covid19. Regardless however, the traditional MG Anthems sets still go ahead. This year I've used some original extended mixes of tracks when they were released and blended them with some excellent updated versions of other party classics. The 15th edition kicks off with 2 original mixes of "What You Want" by Future Force and "Love Come Rescue Me" by Lovestation. For those of you old enough to have partied in the 90's, you should remember them instantly. The very talented and generous Mark (Dirty Disco) was kind enough to provide me with 3 of his new remixes which feature in this set. He does an awesome job on remixes for Kylie Minogue, Madonna and The Pointer Sisters, so thank you Mark x Wayne G. also kindly gave me 2 of his private mixes for the set. You will recognize the tracks from Shauna Jensen and Bek Jensen. Australia's Dom de Sousa and my good friend Rob (Division 4) also helped out with their remixes for Christina Aguilera and Tina Turner. Throw in some classic tracks from Alice Deejay and Blondie and Mardi Gras Anthems 15 is a euphoric, hands in the air trip down memory lane. Enjoy Anthony 1/ "WHAT YOU WANT" (Richie Jones Club Mix) - FUTURE FORCE 2/ "LOVE COME RESCUE ME" (Warren Stanford Club Mix) - LOVESTATION 3/ "SPINNING AROUND" (Dirty Disco Classic Club Rework) - KYLIE MINOGUE 4/ "BORDERLINE" (Dirty Disco Classic Club Rework) - MADONNA 5/ "DIRRTY" (Division 4 Club Mix) - CHRISTINA AGUILERA ft. REDMAN 6/ "WHEN THE HEARTACHE IS OVER" (Dom de Sousa Club Mix) - TINA TURNER 7/ "I BELIEVE" (Steve Bourasa Club Mix) - E'VOKE 8/ "SHINE ON" (Wayne G. Sydney Mardi Gras Club Mix) - WAYNE G. ft. SHAUNA JENSEN 9/ "LOVE YOU RIGHT" (Original Club Mix) - WAYNE G. ft. BEK JENSEN 10/ BETTER OFF ALONE" (Tommer Mizrahi Club Mix) - ALICE DEEJAY 11/ "CALL ME" (Joe Gauthreaux Summer Of Love Club Mix) - BLONDIE 12/ "JUMP" (Dirty Disco Classic Club Rework) - THE POINTER SISTERS

Okay, so it has been over a year since part 2 of the Essential Kylie series was released but the reason has been the difficulty in finding quality remixes of her singles from the late 90's and early 2000's. This is where my good friend Rob (aka Division 4) stepped in and helped me out enormously. He generously gave me some of his personal and private remixes that he had done of Kylie and I am extremely grateful for his generosity. This edition is dedicated to him. A big shout out also to DJ Argonaut from Melbourne. This 3rd edition covers Kylie's album releases 'Impossible Princess'; 'Light Years'; 'Fever'; 'Body Language'; 'X' and her self titled album 'Kylie Minogue'. "Where Is The Feeling" marked a move into a smoother, house phase of her musical sound, while "Some Kind Of Bliss" highlighted an indie sound. "Spinning Around" was a massive hit which established the sexy playful side of her and her music as did "Kids", her collaboration with Robbie Williams. Even though she had had some success in the USA with "Locomotion", her single "Can't Get You Out Of My Head" went to number 1 in nearly every country it was released in and the music video was provocative and something completely new for Kylie. "Love At First Sight" was another huge hit and she was on a role. "Slow", "Red Blooded Woman" and "Wow" brought her to the close of the naughties and set her up to launch into the 2010's. Stand Out mixes come from Division 4, Argonaut, Barry Harris and David Morales to name a few so, Enjoy yourself. Anthony 1/ "WHERE IS THE FEELING" (David Morales Club Mix) 2/ "KIDS" (Division 4 Remix) ft. Robbie Williams 3/ "SOME KIND OF BLISS" (Argonaut Remix) 4/ "ALL I SEE" (Mark Pichiotti Proper House Vocal Club Mix) 5/ "SHOCKED" (Argonaut 2020 Club Mix) 6/ "SPINNING AROUND" (Division 4 Remix) 7/ "LOVE AT FIRST SIGHT" (Division 4 Remix) 8/ "WOW" (Argonaut Remix) 9/ "CAN'T GET YOU OUT OF MY HEAD" (Barry Harris Club Mix) 10/ "SLOW" (Division 4 Remix) 11/ "IN MY ARMS" (Johnny Bass European Club Mix) 12/ "2 HEARTS" (Mark Jason Cardiac Arrest Remix) 13/ "RED BLOODED WOMAN" (Narcotic Thrust Club Mix)

During a casual family catch up, Paul Chapman was challenged to build a simple turntable to rotate a car. Fast forward 30 years and his business, the Bendigo-based Australian Turntable Company, is one of the largest of its kind and credits the design of the world’s largest rotating restaurant to its name. But success wasn’t always the story Paul was spinning. Twelve years into the business the tables were turned on him, and he lost his entire client base in a week.

Kirsty Young's castaway is Kylie Minogue. With seven number ones and ten million singles sold in the UK, she is the third-biggest selling female artist in Britain and has sold around 70 million records worldwide. Born in Melbourne in 1968, Kylie and her sister Dannii began their careers as child actors on Australian television. At 17, Kylie landed the role of Charlene Mitchell in the soap opera Neighbours and her on-screen wedding to Jason Donovan's character Scott Robinson was watched by twenty million people in the UK alone. Her recording career began after she was spotted singing at a charity event in 1987. Within months she had released a cover version of "Locomotion" which became the biggest-selling Australian single of the decade. Following the single's success, her first hit with record producers Stock, Aitken and Waterman was "I Should Be So Lucky": her debut album sold seven million copies. At the age of 21, a romance with INXS lead singer Michael Hutchence led to a change in her image. In 2000, inspired by 1970s disco and assisted by gold hot pants, her single "Spinning Around" became her first British number one for a decade. She also sang to an estimated global audience of 3.7 billion at the closing ceremony of the Sydney Olympics. In May 2005 she was diagnosed with breast cancer: following treatment she resumed the tour 18 months later. Producer: Cathy Drysdale.
