In the third and final installment of our series on the Alberta Badlands (yes, it's that good that we need three episodes), we welcome Ben and Janine to talk to us about a family of 7 in a Motorhome, newbie travels, and of course, we'll learn all about Dinosaur Provincial Park and what sets it apart from Drumheller.Dinosaur Provincial Park is 48km from Brooks Alberta, about 2 hours Southeast of Drumheller, and is a UNESCO world heritage site. Unfortunately, we didn't make it to the park on this trip, so we've brought our good friends and RV newbies, Ben and Janine to tell us all about their adventures at Dinosaur Provincial Park and give you the highlights you need to know.
This is episode two of our two-part series where we visit the Alberta Badlands. In Episode One, we covered Drumheller, Dinosaurs, and the Royal Tyrrell Museum. today is episode 39, and we have a pretty exciting interview for you with Revolution Trailer Uplifting in Winnipeg MB, who we met and fell in love with on Instagram, and asked if we could interview them for the show. Lucky for us, they agreed and Fiona and I got to fill our little HGTV-obsessed hearts full. If you've ever even thought about casting the beiges and browns of your rig aside and renovating your trailer to a more relaxing esthetic (a la RV Fixer Upper – if you know, you know) – this is the Canadian place to do it. On our way West, we stopped by to tour the Revolution Studio, and chat with Meghan who coordinates nearly every aspect of the process with clients and we were thrilled to see how the work gets done and learn a little more about the process in general. Terri was drawn to pediatrics early as she understood this as an opportunity to foster lasting and healthy relationships and habits with food in the next generation. Because of this, she founded Tiny Bites Nutrition in 2018 a nutrition consultancy with the aim of providing parents with the knowledge, tools, and confidence to meet their family goals, wherever they are at with whatever barriers they may face.In 2018, Terri also decided to begin her passion as a backcountry camper, going solo with her then 8 year-old, learning as she went. Since then she's wrangled her entire family of 5 into the adventure and you'll hear all about it on today's show, as well as how she provides nutrition to keep everyone fueled in the backwoods. This is a different kind of camping for us, so we're THRILLED to have Terri join us with her expertise.Links for Today's EpisodeTiny Bites NutritionPaddle InWe Get OutsideAlgonquin OutfittersMan CampingKelly Kettle camping stoveTerri's One Pot Vegan Chili Recipe

Because we’re feeling the chill of fall and getting close to Halloween, we’re detailing four of the most haunted places we’ve ever camped, and stay tuned to the end of the show when I share a bonus story about which island in Ontario we refuse to go back to…it’s not a camping story, but it is a travel story and a weird one at that…Sadly, this week Dan is away on business so you’re stuck with me regaling you with all of the ghostly places we have stayed.I actually wanted this to be episode 13 next week for obvious reasons, but I guess, if you include our Podcast trailer this technically IS the 13th episode, even if it doesn’t say so on the description – so I guess it’s kind of like in the elevators of high rises and old hotels where there’s no button for the 13th floor.Be sure to check out our show notes on the episode web page for full details on the show and pictures from each park.Roadtrippers DiscountAs promised, if you would like to upgrade to Roadtrippers Plus with $5 off, you can do that by clicking HERE and using the discount code: RVCANUCKS As Roadtrippers affiliates we are thrilled to be able to offer this discount to listeners of the show and would be thrilled if you supported us with a great deal that saves you money, and allows us a small commission to help bringing you the show.
In today's episode, we talk about the differences between a Campground, RV Park and RV Resort. In Canada we don't have many "true" RV Resorts - you know, the luxury type properties with the amenities you could expect from a 4-star resort. We'll talk about why that is, what you can expect from a property that falls into the RV resort category and we'll detail the following RV Resorts:Ocean Lakes Family Campground - Myrtle Beach, SCOasis Las Vegas RV Resort, Las Vegas NVDisney's Fort Wilderness Resort & Campground - Orlando, FLWe also talk trip planning (again) and Melina waxes poetic about Roadtrippers Plus (again) - we just love it so much and are really excited about some of the new features that Roadtrippers is working hard to include in future releases. And as promised, if you want to get Roadtrippers Plus and all the waypoints, reviews, offline maps, live traffic, partner discounts, estimated fuel costs and more, SIGN UP HERE and use the exclusive discount code just for RV Canucks listeners: BTR5QTP
In today's episode, we have fishing accidents, bleeding knees, a lost hiking expedition, a hangry daddy...and a very special guest! Our youngest daughter joins Dan to talk about all of the mishaps that happen when you take a trip without Mom...and how that leads to lots of fun (and lots of fish)! In particular, Dan laments the lack of boxed lunches for the road. If you haven't learned about Box Lunches yet, listen to episode 8 where we review our best trips for making more miles on your road trips. You'll also get a pretty rad and thorough review of Finlayson Provincial Park in Temagami, Ontario, located 5hrs North of Toronto, or 5.5 hours Northeast of Sault St. Marie, MichiganLearn about the species of fish available in the area, review the park amenities, take a local hike and discover how an Adventure map can take your day trips to the next level. If you want to see pictures of the park and area - don't forget to follow us on Instagram, Facebook or on our show notes page
Today we're talking about end-of-season trips, and some of the ways we plan our last trips of the season to help us take care of maintenance and chores, while still allowing lots of time to relax and enjoy the changing seasons. Here's what we're going to cover:Filling Freshwater - From dealing with the water pump, to how much a tank full of water weighs and the differences between water filling in Canada and the USA - we've got you coveredTaps - Use our previous flood experience to guide you on what NOT to doSanitizing your Freshwater tank - This one is essential for the health and safety of your family - don't skip it.Black and Grey tank systems - We provide a super quick overview, but if you want the dirty details - listen to Episode 2 - The Scoop on PoopTires - How long they last, how they differ from automobile tires, and the deal with "twisting tires"Awnings - Electric, non-electric and how to avoid a costly repair billAppliances - The different types of appliances and how they workRubber roof and slide maintenanceStabilizing Jacks - We cover this in detail on Episode 5 but we give a quick reminder that will save you a bucket of money.Fuse Panels - Where to find them, and what to do if your power components stop workingThink we missed something? Note: in this episode we address levelling your rig in an RV that doesn’t have auto-levelling jacks - if you do - you CAN use those to help level your trailer, but if you don’t - your stabilizing jacks are for stabilizing only! Do not try to level your trailer with them! If you have auto-leveling jacks (you lucky thing) your wheels should remain on the ground while levelled - if they aren’t then you’ll need to recalibrate the system according to manufacturer’s directions. This episode is all about answering your listener questions, and hopefully the first of many! We also dive into the long-awaited review of Happy Campers Tank Treatment, which we spoke about on Episode 2: Black Water Tank Maintenance. And, Happy Campers literally saved our lives, not because it's a good product (spoiler-alert - it is) but because we are all still alive to tell you about it - so stay tuned to the end of the episode for that story and our comprehensive tank treatment review. After we mentioned boondocking in our episode on the five best travel apps, Melina received a text from a friend asking what boondocking was. Turns out, after talking to some of our other RV Newbie friends, our friend wasn't alone! Fast forward to this week, and we've adjusted our podcast schedule to bring you the answer!Essentially, boondocking with your RV or travel trailer is staying somewhere outside a traditional campground where you don't have fresh water, sewer or power connections. Boondocking for us, is a safe night's sleep on our way to our other camping destinations! In this episode we cover (and use the chapter markers in the episode navigation bar if you want to skip to a particular section):What boondocking is [0:59]The difference between RV boondocking, dry camping and dispersed camping [1:35]Why, when, and where to boondock [3:43]Boondocking etiquette (if you only listen to one section - let this be it!) [5:57]And we round out the episode with a review of our recent stay at Bronte Creek Provincial Park in Oakville, Ontario Canada [11:37]Mentioned in this link:How to find Crown Land Camping in Ontario, visit the Crown Land Policy Atlas Camping on public lands in the USA, visit the Bureau of Land ManagementFor our review on Bronte Creek Provincial Park and links to activities, events and bookings, visit our Bronte Creek trip guide
On today's episode, we're talking about the five most essential websites or apps for taking a road trip. And it all starts with hauling our current trailer 3000 kilometers round trip to chase a solar eclipse. (Which was just a good excuse for a road trip and a chance to hit the road.) It was the first time we've taken our 29' trailer and the girls on a really big trip and it was really I think a dry run for bigger things to come. We talk our five favourite apps:RoadtrippersPilot/Flying JRV ParkyGoogle Satelite ViewAllstays Camp & RVWe also talk about some of the best places we've had an overnight at:RV Express 66 RV Park in Marshfield, MOEnchanted Trails RV Park in Albuquerque, NMAnd of course, that famous park that has golf-cart pizza delivery - Ocean Lakes Family Campground in Myrtle Beach, SCFinally, we answer our FIRST listener question about Bike Racks for RVs and Trailers!Don't forget to subscribe and follow us on Instagram @rvcanucks
