    Ivy Insights

The Davenport podcast is an absolute gem that I stumbled upon and it has quickly become one of my favorite podcasts to listen to. Jamie and Guy, the hosts of the show, bring a delightful mix of humor, knowledge, and relatability to each episode. From the very first episode I listened to, I was hooked. They tackle important topics related to mental health, relationships, and personal growth in a lighthearted and engaging way.

One of the best aspects of The Davenport podcast is the dynamic between Jamie and Guy. They have a natural chemistry that shines through in their conversations. Their banter is entertaining and they play off each other's strengths beautifully – Jamie as a therapist brings expertise and insight, while Guy as a life coach brings practical advice and relatable stories. This combination makes for an informative and enjoyable listening experience.

Another great aspect of this podcast is the range of topics covered. They address everything from communication skills to boundaries to self-care, providing valuable insights on how we can improve our relationships with others as well as ourselves. What sets them apart is their ability to deliver this information in a way that feels accessible and relatable. It never feels like they are talking down or preaching at their listeners but rather having a conversation with them.

I must admit that there aren't many negative aspects about The Davenport podcast that come to mind. However, if I had to nitpick, it would be that sometimes the episodes can feel slightly repetitive in terms of their overall message or themes discussed. That being said, Jamie and Guy do an excellent job keeping things fresh by incorporating personal anecdotes or inviting guests onto the show for different perspectives.

In conclusion, The Davenport podcast is a must-listen for anyone interested in personal growth, mental health, and improving their relationships. Jamie and Guy create an atmosphere that is both informative and entertaining – a rare combination in the podcasting world. I highly recommend giving this podcast a try, as it has the power to inspire, enlighten, and make you laugh all at once.

On today's episode Jamie and Guy welcome a special guest (and longtime friend of Jaime) Kristy Gaisford LCSW to discuss narcissism. They discuss how being in a relationship with a narcissist can be incredibly difficult and damaging to one's mental and emotional well-being. Narcissists often exhibit clinical characteristics such as an inflated sense of self-importance, a lack of empathy, and a preoccupation with fantasies of success, power, and attractiveness. They may also exhibit manipulative and controlling behavior, gaslighting, and emotional abuse. The constant need for admiration and attention can leave their partners feeling emotionally drained and neglected. Additionally, because narcissists tend to see themselves as faultless, they are unlikely to take responsibility for their actions or make meaningful changes to improve the relationship. On this week's episode, Jamie and Guy discuss the basics of codependency. Codependency in relationships refers to a dynamic where one person enables or supports negative behaviors in their partner, sacrificing their own well-being for the sake of the relationship. This can lead to a cycle of dysfunction where both partners become overly reliant on each other, leading to unhealthy codependent behaviors such as neglecting personal responsibilities, making decisions based on the needs of the relationship rather than individual needs, and a lack of personal boundaries. Ultimately, codependency can lead to feelings of resentment, low self-esteem, and a decreased ability to function in healthy relationships. Jamie and Guy discuss new year's resolutions vs. intentions in this week's episode. As we begin a new year, many of us may be thinking about what changes we want to make in our lives. Some may make resolutions, promising to lose weight, quit smoking, or save money. However, many of us may find ourselves struggling to keep these resolutions. Instead, we should focus on setting intentions. Intentions are different from resolutions in that they are not specific goals, but rather a mindset or attitude we want to adopt.  Setting intentions allows us to be more flexible and open to change, rather than feeling like a failure if we don't meet a specific goal. Additionally, we can work on intentions throughout the year, rather than something we put pressure on ourselves to accomplish in a short period. So, let's start the new year with intentions to better ourselves, rather than resolutions that may hold us back

They are the voices in our heads that generate negative emotions about the way we handle everyday life.  While our Sage, on the other hand, does the opposite.  It helps us handle challenges by encouraging us to focus on empathy, curiosity, tranquility, productivity, and more. It helps us handle challenges with a clear and calm mind and positive emotions. Ultimately, the Sage helps us to silence the Saboteurs. We set goals, but it's ok if sometimes we don't reach them - in fact it might be better if we don't.  From relationships that went on too long, to college majors we should have switched sooner, to races we should skip to avoid injury - quitting might actually be the best thing to do.  Ultimately, we have a finite amount of time and resources and by quitting one thing it allows us to get on to the next. He defines the stickler saboteur as wanting perfectionism and a need for order and organization taken too far.  The stickler is anxious trying to make too many things perfect. It can be highly critical of itself and others. It strongly requires self-control. It has high standards and needs to be methodical. There is constant frustration with itself and others. It tends to see the world in black and white. The Stickler can also be a bit of fixer, believing that they need to fix whatever mess they encounter.Listen to learn how to manage this for yourself or how to support the ones you love when they are feeling sabotaged by this way of negative thinking.Have you taken the Saboteur Assessment yet?
