Welcome to another thought-provoking episode of the Daily Living for Christ podcast! Today, we take a deep dive into Genesis 3, exploring how the false self emerged in the garden and how it continues to shape our lives today. Before the fall, Adam and Eve lived in perfect union with God—fully known, fully loved, and free from fear. But with the serpent's temptation came a shift—the introduction of power, control, and self-rule that led humanity away from divine trust and into self-protection. This moment gave birth to the false self, a survival mechanism rooted in insecurity, fear, and the pursuit of identity outside of God.In this episode, we'll uncover:✅ How Genesis 3 reveals the roots of the false self and humanity's struggle with control and independence from God.✅ Why the false self isn't inherently evil but is a byproduct of living outside God's will.✅ The deep connection between fear, rejection, and the need for approval in shaping our false identities.✅ How material possessions, achievements, and self-sufficiency deceive us into feeling secure.✅ Practical steps to recognize the false self and shift toward wholeness and trust in God.Donald also introduces the Saboteur Assessment, (click the link to take the free assessment) a powerful tool to help uncover  where the false self is operating in your life and how to begin the journey back to living in wholeness with God.Are you ready to move beyond fear, control, and self-sufficiency to embrace your true identity in Christ? Have you ever worked on a team going through a lot of change? I'm guessing you have many times and in many different scenarios. I'm also guessing your experience of that change had a lot to do with the level of trust that the team had for one another and the leaders of the team and/or organization. When there is a high level of trust the impacts of the change are softened. When there is low trust change can be traumatic. Clearly, we want to work in teams that have high trust but if that's not the current condition, how do we get there? To answer that question I've asked Malia Monaco to join me for this episode.   In this episode Malia and I talk about: ·         The work that Malia does for leaders and organizations through Positive Intelligence involving change management and trust building. ·         What it takes to build trust in teams and what becomes possible when trust grows. ·         Why it's important to get to the root of the problem rather than tackling the symptoms, which is where many organizational initiatives go wrong. ·         How our belief system will shape what we see around us and determine whether we bring harsh judgment or blameless discernment to our reactions. ·         While insights are important, they only make up 20% of sustainable long-lasting change what makes up the other 80%. Perspectives from a "Failing" Business Owner

Happy September, listener! I've read that September is the new New Year and I agree. As a mom we're getting back into the routine of life and there is a natural reflection that happens. In this first podcast of September I'm reflecting back on my business “failures” and sharing the lessons I took from them. I can't help myself. My human design profile lines are a 3, have to try things out for myself, and a 5, have to show people what I learned. But that doesn't make it easy. Failure (or what I have perceived as failure in the past) is my biggest fear. I've learned a lot over the last few years and hope you'll find some takeaways in this vulnerable solocast. Key Takeaways It's taken some time for me to be able to talk about my business “failures” from a non-emotional, neutral space, but I'm giving it a try. In this podcast I'm recounting my three biggest failures and what I learned from them. Failure One: Big News in June 2022 (4 min) In June 2022 I had a whole podcast sharing my big news of my realized goal of purchasing an old historic property downtown. Demo was great, but as the time came for making decisions I was totally frozen. Saboteur Assessment (8 min) My saboteur type is avoidance, and avoid I did. I knew in August that this building wasn't right for me but I didn't admit it until winter. Finally in March I met someone with big dreams and a vision for the building. Passing the building on felt right, even though I was ashamed to let go of such a publicly shared goal. “People's businesses pivot. And actually, a sign of a business that has longevity and has stood the test of time, they aren't the same business 5, 7, 15, 20 years down the road that they were when then started out.” (13 min) “You set out to save a historic building. You may not have been the person to see it through the whole process, but you still held that building and made sure it went to someone who would care about it. With a background in nuclear pharmacy, quality & safety, and workers' comp clinical pharmacy, she brings a wealth of experience and understanding to her coaching practice. As a mindset and integrative health coach, Brigette empowers her clients to reframe limiting beliefs and focus on what they truly want for their health, joy, and happiness. Through 1:1 coaching, group programs, workshops, and retreats, she incorporates various modalities, including mindfulness, Positive Intelligence, NLP/hypnosis, breathwork, yoga therapy, and more, to guide her clients towards sustainable well-being strategies. As a faculty member and coach, Brigette witnesses firsthand the stress that students and healthcare professionals experience. She is dedicated to providing mindfulness training and self-compassion to healthcare workers, aiming to combat burnout and promote resilience. Brigette's own transformative journey into integrative health and lifestyle medicine began in 2016, leading her to rediscover what truly mattered in her life. This personal realization and deep study in health and healing have influenced her coaching approach, impacting the lives of her clients positively. She cherishes the joy of witnessing her clients reconnect with themselves and create space for intimacy, creativity, meaning, and balance in their lives. Highlights from our interview At the June 2023 Medipreneurs Summit in Kansas City, MO, Dr. Brigette Serfaty introduced me to a combination of mindfulness, meditation, and sound healing.  I experienced loud chords of sound from crystal bowls, but I was also able to focus on the meditation portion of the experience.  I liked it. Dr. Serfaty works with a variety of individuals at the intersection of mindset and well being:   Students and faculty at The University of Arkansas  Busy professionals (including healthcare professionals, like pharmacists) Group trainings Retreats There is evidence to support that mindfulness works.  KORU is a mindfulness app Dr. Serfaty uses with her students. The Oura Ring https://ouraring.com/ has meditations inside their app as well; data is available to show measurable (heart rate) changes while meditating. We discussed Positive Intelligence Training and the Saboteur Assessment.  The results give names to the voices in your head.  Once you know your saboteurs, you can be more mindful about which voices you listen to and the mindset you adopt. Perfection and imposter syndrome were part of our conversation.  Normalizing failure helps others, especially students, understand that failure is a learning tool - not a barrier to success.  Failure is painful, but it's part of learning.  Brigette has a YouTube Podcast called Minding Your Minutes.  She hosts a variety of guests, including wellness practice owners and lifestyle medicine practitioners.  The content is conversational, educational, and sometimes cathartic.  The name of the Podcast (Minding Your Minutes) is reminder that mindfulness can take just minutes. On this week's episode, Jamie and Guy discuss the stickler saboteur  - which happens to be another one of Guy's strongest saboteur..  The 'stickler' saboteur is one of the ten types of saboteurs identified by Shirzad Chamine in his work on Positive Intelligence.  He teaches that the saboteurs are the negative voices in our heads that "generate negative emotions" (stress, anxiety, self-doubt, frustration, restlessness, and unhappiness) and "sabotage our performance, wellbeing and relationships". He defines the stickler saboteur as wanting perfectionism and a need for order and organization taken too far.  The stickler is anxious trying to make too many things perfect. It can be highly critical of itself and others. It strongly requires self-control. It has high standards and needs to be methodical. There is constant frustration with itself and others. It tends to see the world in black and white. The Stickler can also be a bit of fixer, believing that they need to fix whatever mess they encounter.Listen to learn how to manage this for yourself or how to support the ones you love when they are feeling sabotaged by this way of negative thinking.Have you taken the Saboteur Assessment yet? Former market research executive turned full-time career coach, Anna applies her expertise within neuroscience and behavioral science to help her clients. Lenny and Anna discuss how we can apply the lessons we learn in behavioral science to ourselves, in identifying and avoiding burnout, assessing job performance and career decisions, and workplace behaviors (e.g., perfectionism, procrastination) that are actually self-sabotaging choices. In this episode, we'll explore: Radical accountability and the responsibility we need to take for many of the workplace challenges we face The Great Resignation, The Great Reshuffling, and overall reevaluation during this period of seismic change How we need to hijack our limbic brains and mindfully consider both "System 1" and "System 2" thinking when it comes to job seeking, interviewing and overall career confidence Many thanks to Anna, for being our guest. On this week's episode, Jamie and Guy discuss the Hypervigilant saboteur.  The 'Hypervigilant' saboteur is one of the ten types of saboteurs identified by Shirzad Chamine in his work on Positive Intelligence.  He teaches that the saboteurs are the negative voices in our heads that "generate negative emotions" (stress, anxiety, self-doubt, frustration, restlessness, and unhappiness) and "sabotage our performance, wellbeing and relationships". He defines the Hypervigilant saboteur as:  "Continuous intense anxiety about all the dangers and what could go wrong. Vigilance that can never rest. This mode puts you in a constant state of high stress, thinking that that's the best way you protect yourself and your loved ones. But it leads to tunnel-vision and wastes a lot of mental and emotional energy."Even though this isn't Jamie or Guy's strongest saboteur - they both agree it became more intense when they became parents. It may or may not be your strongest saboteur, but chances are you have someone in your life who struggles more with it. Listen to learn how to manage this for yourself or how to support the ones you love when they are feeling sabotaged by this way of negative thinking. Have you taken the Saboteur Assessment yet? It's my honor to chat with Jenn Wallace today about the ups and downs of running your own business without any real business experience and what it means to have great confidence and faith in what God, the Universe, Spirit has called you to do. Jenn's sharing the tools that worked for her as she managed through the unexpected end of a big dream. And she may have dropped a hint about what's coming next. Jenn Wallace has always felt her calling is to help people, and she loves doing that through massage therapy. As a licensed massage therapist with more than 16 years' experience, she owned and operated a day spa in Westford, MA before the pandemic. Jenn is currently a stay-at-home mom to her three amazing children and very happily married to her husband Steve. Sidenote, Steve is actually the one who introduced me to Jenn and recommended her for the show.  She loves vacationing with her family and serving as a worship leader at her church.  By now you may have heard about the amazing 8-week, F*ck Being Fine program. Maybe you've been feeling like life is a bit out of control for a while now and you've been wishing for it to change. You're ready to trade in chaos for more peace of mind. You can take all the spa days you want, but I'm guessing you're finding them only a temporary fix. The stress continues as soon as you get back in your car.  News flash, life is not going to change unless YOU take the steps to change it. You're old enough to realize the phrase “Life is short” is more than an overused cliche. If you're going to have the life you desire, it's time to do the work now.  This opportunity is presenting itself for a reason. The next small group, 8-week, F*ck Being Fine program starts in just a few weeks. Get in and radically increase your focus, energy & happiness while learning to stay calm & grounded no matter what. As Brian in Boston told me, "I was a miserable human..."  Ever since he implemented this one thing I teach in these sessions, his life has transformed. On today's show, I get to talk with human kindness leader and possibility coach Gina Lemon.  Gina's parents divorced when she was 6 and she and her mom moved around throughout her childhood. Like many Gen-Xers, she was given a lot of independence, which translated into a constant striving for excellence, which translated into the belief that accomplishments get you appreciation. She was 17 when her dad died of AIDS, which, as you'll hear, has informed her purpose today.  We chat all about ABCs of life, supporting other people even when they have a different perspective from you, and what can happen when you speak your truth. And of course we get into what happened when Gina realized fine wasn't fine at all.  After leaving her corporate VP of Human Resources position in 2021, Gina started a consulting company to partner with clients who believe they can change the status quo and make a positive impact on the world. She loves helping people find their passions and live their best futures today instead of allowing the past to dictate what happens next.  You might remember a few weeks ago, my guest was Raoul Benavides. Do they bring a smile of joy to your face? Or are you constantly waiting for things to change? Here's some harsh news. They're not going to change unless YOU change them. And taking a spa day isn't going to fix the stress in your life. Life is short. It's time to do the work now.  Or you can keep waiting.  The next small group, 8-week, F*ck Being Fine program starts in just a few weeks. Get in and radically increase your focus, energy & happiness while learning to stay calm & grounded no matter what. On this week's episode Jamie and Guy discuss accountability.  From RSVP'ing to parties, to holding yourself accountable to training for a marathon, to taking ownership in relationships when you "step in it" - accountability is important and shows up in all facets of our lives.  They discuss how there are no "buts" or blaming when you are being accountable for your actions.  Being accountable means you turn inward to analyze how you have behaved instead of outwardly blaming others or the situation. Being accountable means taking responsibility for your actions. Highly accountable people don't make excuses and work through the problems.  Simply put, accountability means following through and doing what you say you are going to do.  We hope you enjoy this episode - if you do, please take a minute to subscribe and leave a review on Apple Podcasts:) Thanks so much! For more information on Positive Intelligence and a link to the free Saboteur Assessment can be found here: https://www.positiveintelligence.com/Support the show (https://www.patreon.com/thedavenport)Join us on  Facebook :https://www.facebook.com/thedavenportpodcast/ Follow  us on Instagram:@thedavenportpodcast About  Jamie and Guy:Jamie Pyatt LCSW  is a mom, avid beach lover, exercise enthusiast, and a licensed clinical therapist with over 20 yrs of experience. Self-esteem is a topic Jamie and Guy have focused on before but after reading this book wanted to take a deeper dive into the 3 types of self-esteem discussed in this book: (1) Performance-based esteem: I have worth based on what I do. (2) Attribute-based esteem: I have worth based on what I have; and (3) Others-based esteem: I have worth because other people think I do.  Take a listen as Jamie and Guy discuss the harm in basing your self-esteem in any of these three ways and how to develop a strong sense of self esteem.
