“Our journals are a place to really be curious, to actually discover things we don't already know, to ask powerful questions.” –Lynda MonkCan journaling help with burnout? Social worker and life coach Lynda Monk found that reflective practices help avoid burnout. Fortunately, she was a lifelong journaler and journaling is a reflective practice. You don't have to be a long-time journaler to get benefits. It took me a long time to develop my own practice, and I'm excited to get you some tools to develop yours. It's not for everybody, but if you're interested it can be a powerful self-care tool.Instead of just recording what you did, try making a list of questions about your life or some aspect of your life. Then use each of these questions as a journaling prompt. Think of your journal as a means of exploration and discovery. You can also include affirmations, intentions, gratitude, stream of consciousness writing. We talk about: What to write about — questions we have, the things that keep going around and around in our mindsGetting clear on your why of journal because that can shape the form of your practice and your reason can motivate youPicking a time that feels easy — it might not be first thing in the morning — and recognize how much you can pack into a short timeLetting go of perfectionism in our journal and in our practiceNoticing patterns in what we write and what we can learn from that and using it as a mindfulness practiceHow to use ideas if your journal becomes a catch allABOUT LYNDALynda Monk, MSW, RSW, CPCC, Director of The International Association of Journal Writing (IAJW.org), an inspiring membership community for journal writers worldwide, is known for her profound insights into the therapeutic and life-changing power of journaling. In this episode we'll also get into reframing feedback, accepting a compliment, flying helicopters into stormy weather, and end with some healing words. Her workbook is the perfect companion to her ‘Name Claim & Reframe' book which we've covered on a previous episode. Hello and welcome to Season 13! This season is different because ½ of the 8 episodes are going to be focused on AI. However, there are a few episodes that aren't focused on AI including today's. While understanding AI is important, we also need the EQ that occurs in between skilling up and one of those huge skills is navigating difficult conversations. As Jennifer says, contact and context before content! This episode is the pep talk you perhaps didn't even know you needed. Jennifer empowers us to tackle our challenges head on, eliminate negative self talk,  and take care of ourselves throughout the process. We go through three real life examples and Jennifer talks through how she would handle them. These examples were submitted by real life listeners with their real life challenges. Jennifer Zaslow is an Executive Coach who believes that harnessing your full potential begins with finding your voice. She began her professional life in New York as an aspiring opera singer, an experience that led to a twenty year career as a leader and senior fundraiser in the non-profit sector.  Today, as Partner at Clear Path Executive Coaching, Jennifer's signature mix of intuition, directness and humor enables her to work successfully with clients ranging from CEO's to young leaders, helping individuals to reach their full potential, and organizations to achieve their strategic goals.   Jennifer has worked with leaders and teams from a wide variety of sectors, including higher ed (Harvard, Yale, Columbia, Cornell, University of Pennsylvania), arts and culture (The Metropolitan Museum of Art, The New York Public Library, The Metropolitan Opera, New York City Ballet, BAM, The High Line), sports/media/entertainment (The NFL, Sundance Institute, BuzzFeed, WNYC, KCRW) and tech/startups (Google, CHIEF, Angi, and TodayTix).   Prior to coaching, Jennifer held the chief development officer role at three New York City cultural institutions: Manhattan Theatre Club, New York City Opera, and The New York Public Library.  There, she successfully completed a $500 million capital campaign during the 2008 recession and grew the Library's endowment to over $1 billion.    Jennifer holds a B.A. cum laude from Wesleyan University and a CPCC coaching certification from CTI. She's the founder of the Six Figure Impact Academy and takes a stand for helping her clients build multiple six figure businesses. The reach, impact, and personal transformation her clients achieve through the process is what makes this level of success so important. She supports homeless animals and shelters with the goal of helping all pets live in a happy and healthy home   Here are the great points that we talked about:  Transformative Power of Speaking: Speaking can drive coaching business growth by establishing coaches as experts and engaging audiences beyond digital marketing methods. Krista Martin's Journey: Krista shares her personal transformation from a corporate job to becoming a coaching authority using speaking as a core marketing strategy. Speaking Strategies: A discussion on the importance of crafting talks that compel the audience to take action rather than just educating them. Avoiding the “Spaghetti Approach:” Coaches often make the mistake of throwing out a multitude of ideas and hoping something sticks which can dilute their message and effectiveness. Activation Language vs Education Language: There is a distinction between simply educating an audience and using language that moves them to action.  Simplifying Your Message: Simplify message to make an impact, as to overwhelm clients with information can lead to inaction.   Get connected with Krista Martin:  Website: www.makeyourmark.com Email: krista@makeyourmark.com Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/mymcoaching LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/kristalangmartin/ Free Gift Link: www.makeyourmark.com/simplify Free Gift Description The Simplify to Grow Guide is a simple way for coaches to look at where they are (current results) and to help them see exactly which skillsets, mindsets, and strategies are needed for their fastest growth.
