Revelation 12 references a woman clothed with the sun. The Church has interpreted this to mean Mary. 3. In the Old Testament, Enoch and Elijah were taken up into heaven. It has happened before, 4. 42: How to Purify Your Intentions and Avoid Vainglory

Play Episode Listen Later Jan 17, 2019 26:31

Purity of Intention - To do all things for love of God and His glory and to unite our will with His will Vainglory attempts to steal glory from God for yourself. It sneaks in later on to ruin good things, like eating to excess after originally eating for necessity "Beware of practicing your piety before others in order to be seen by them; for then you have no reward from your Father in heaven. So whenever you give alms, do not sound a trumpet before you, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and in the streets, so that they may be praised by others. Truly I tell you, they have received their reward. But when you give alms, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing, so that your alms may be done in secret; and your Father who sees in secret will reward you. And whenever you pray, do not be like the hypocrites; for they love to stand and pray in the synagogues and at the street corners, so that they may be seen by others. Truly I tell you, they have received their reward. But whenever you pray, go into your room and shut the door and pray to your Father who is in secret; and your Father who sees in secret will reward you." - Matthew 6:1-6 But he said to them, “I have food to eat that you do not know about.” So the disciples said to one another, “Surely no one has brought him something to eat?” Jesus said to them, “My food is to do the will of him who sent me and to complete his work." - John 4:32-34 "Render service with enthusiasm, as to the Lord and not to men and women" - Ephesians 6:7 Remedies for Vainglory 1. St. Bernard says to recognize it before it gets you, saying vainglory only kills those who are inconsiderate and negligent. 2. "Never say any thing of yourself that may redound to your praise, though the person you speak to should be one of your most familiar friends; but on the contrary endeavour to hide all your virtues, with more care than you take to hide your vices and imperfections." - St. Bernard (Bern. in formulâ honestæ vitæ) 3. Hide your good actions so that only God knows about it. 4. If you are not able to hide your good actions, purify your intention and offer all your thoughts, words, and actions. 5. Know yourself. It will lead to humility to fight vainglory. How do we know when we have a pure intention? 1. Not envious when others do well: But if you have bitter envy and selfish ambition in your hearts, do not be boastful and false to the truth. Such wisdom does not come down from above, but is earthly, unspiritual, devilish. For where there is envy and selfish ambition, there will also be disorder and wickedness of every kind. But the wisdom from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, willing to yield, full of mercy and good fruits, without a trace of partiality or hypocrisy." - James 3:14-17 2. A holy indifference to whatever we are assigned in our state of life, as long as follow God's will.

Humility is the root of all other virtues and the foundation of charity. "You aspire to great things, begin with little ones; you desire to erect a very high building, think first of the foundation of humility. The foundations are always sunk proportionally to the intended weight of the building; and the higher one intends it, the deeper must the foundations thereof be laid." St. Augustine - Serm. x. de verb. Dom. - Without humility "everything else is like a huge heap of hay which we have piled up, but which with the first gust of wind is blown over and scattered far and wide. The devil has little respect for those devotions which are not founded on humility, because he knows well that he can get rid of them whenever he pleases." - St. John Vianney, Sermon on humility Humility is the basis of charity. St. Augustine says "the dwelling place of charity is humility." "To remain little is to acknowledge one's nothingness and to expect everything from the good God, as the child expects everything from its father." - St. Thérèse of Lisieux "What pleases Jesus is to see me love my littleness and poverty, the blind hope that I have in His mercy. This is my only treasure." - St. Thérèse of Lisieux "Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me; for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls." - Matthew 11:28-29 "True humility, however deep it may be, neither disquiets, nor troubles, nor disturbs the soul; it is accompanied by peace, joy, and tranquility . . . It enlarges it, and makes it fit to serve God better." - St. Teresa of Avila "[F]alse humility only disturbs and upsets the mind and troubles the soul, so grievous is it. I think the devil is anxious for us to believe that we are humble and, if he can, he will lead us to distrust God." - St. Teresa of Avila   Song Credit: Star Visions Of A Champ (KieLoKaz ID 103) by KieLoBot Website: https://wedaretosay.com/ Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/wedaretosay/

"You owe such a great debt to your Father—God! He has given you life, intelligence, will... He has given you his grace: the Holy Spirit; Jesus, in the Sacred Host; divine sonship; the Blessed Virgin, the Mother of God and our Mother. He has given you the possibility of taking part in the Holy Mass; and he grants you forgiveness for your sins. He forgives you so many times! He has given you countless gifts, some of them quite extraordinary... Tell me, my son: how have you corresponded so far to this generosity? How are you corresponding now?" - St. Josemaría Escrivá, The Way, 11 1. Reflect on your past year in the light of four categories: - Physical - Spiritual - Mental - Emotional 2. Begin with general goals (e.g. reach heaven, I want to eat better, I want to be in better shape). Cassian relates that the Abbot Moses, one day, in a spiritual conference, asked his religious, What was it they aimed at by alt their praying, fasting, watching, and other austerities? When they answered, That it was the kingdom of heaven: he replied, I know very well that heaven is your last and great end; but what is the immediate and particular object by which you mean to attain your last end? (Cassian Col. V. cap. iii. and iv.) A certain man, says he, having a field, which was all overrun with briers and thorns, sent his son to stub and clear it. The young man, perceiving the laborious task imposed on him by his father, lost courage, and fell asleep the first day, and the second day he did the same, for which his father reprehended him, saying, Son you must not look upon this work all together, and in the gross, as if you were to do it all at once; but you must undertake every day as much as you can easily perform. The son followed the father's advice, and in a short time the whole field was cleared. 3. Break the general goal down into small, specific pieces. 4. Schedule in your tasks, especially with prayer and exercise. 5. Move toward the goal every single day. Other example areas of growth: - Exercise - Eating right and well - Prayer time, specifically mental prayer, but also other devotions like the Rosary, the Divine Mercy Chaplet, and the Liturgy of the Hours - Sacrament Participation - Reading the Bible - Spiritual Reading - Daily Journaling - Nightly Examination of Conscience - Morning Offering "Be definite. Don’t let your resolutions be like fireworks that sparkle for a moment, to leave behind as hard reality a blackened, useless stub that one throws disgustedly away." - St. Josemaría Escrivá, The Way, 247 "Make few resolutions. Make them definite. — And fulfil them with the help of God." - St. Josemaría Escrivá, The Way, 249 "I listened in silence as you said, ‘Yes, I want to be a saint.’ Though usually such a vague and general statement seems nonsense to me." - St. Josemaría Escrivá, The Way, 250 Recommended Spiritual Reading for Beginning a Habit of Prayer - The Ignatius Bible: Revised Standard Version - Second Catholic Edition (My Favorite Bible) https://amzn.to/2SvAuTx - Searching for and Maintaining Peace by Fr. "Jesus answered him, “Those who love me will keep my word, and my Father will love them, and we will come to them and make our home with them." - John 14:23 ". . . and it is no longer I who live, but it is Christ who lives in me." - Galatians 2:20 "The union of the Christian with Christ is not just a similarity of inclination and feeling, a mutual consent of minds and wills. It has a more radical, more mysterious and supernatural quality: it is a mystical union in which Christ Himself becomes the source and principle of divine life in me." - Thomas Merton "By this life, Jesus Christ imparts to me His Spirit. In this way, He becomes the principle of a superior activity which raises me up, provided I do not obstruct it, to think, judge, love, will, suffer, labor with Him, by Him, in Him, and like Him. My outward acts become the manifestations of this life of Jesus in me. And thus I tend to realize the ideal of the INTERIOR LIFE that was formulated by St. Paul when he said: 'I live, now not I, but Christ liveth in me.'" - Jean-Baptiste Chautard, O.C.S.O. "To perceive means to listen in silence...and only in silence is hearing possible. Moreover the strong the determination prevails to hear all there is, the more profound and more complete the silence must be." - Josef Pieper "You will never find interior solitude unless you make some conscious effort to deliver yourself from the desires and cares and attachments of an existence in time and in the world. Do everything you can to avoid the noise and the business of men...be glad if you can keep beyond the rearch of their radios. Do not bother with their unearthly songs. Do not read their advertisements." - Thomas Merton "Lord, may my motto be: Thou in me and I in Thee! How beautiful is Your presence within me, in the inmost sanctuary of my soul. May my continual occupation be to retire into myself, that I may lose myself in You, and live with You. I feel You so vividly in my soul, that I have only to become recollected to find You there within me, and in that I find all my happiness . . . O Lord, let me live with You as with a friend! Help me to live in the awareness of faith always, in order that I may be united to You no matter what happens. I bear heaven in my soul, since You, who satiate the blessed in the Beatific Vision, give Yourself to me in faith and mystery . . . Grant, O my God, that my soul may be a little heaven wherein You can rest with delight. In order that I may attain this end, help me to remove everything that might offend Your divine eyes, and then permit me to live always with You in this little heaven. Wherever I am or whatever I do, You never leave me alone; grant that I, too, may always remain with You. At every hour of the day and night, in joy or sorrow, in every work and action, may I always know how to find You within me! . . . O my God, Blessed Trinity, be my dwelling, my rest, my Father's house which I shall never leave. Let me abide in You, not for a few fleeting minutes or hours, but permanently, habitually. May I pray in You, adore in You, love in You, suffer in You, work and act in You alone. Let me remain in You to offer myself to others through You, to attend to all my duties, while always penetrating further into Your divine depths. O Lord, grant that every day I may advance along the path of the abyss that leads me to You, that lets me slide down this slope with a confidence full of love." - St. Elizabeth of the Trinity Song Credit: Star Visions Of A Champ (KieLoKaz ID 103) by KieLoBot Website: https://wedaretosay.com/ Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/wedaretosay/

The 7 Deadly Sins destroy lives. Why not learn the best ways to fight them? 1. Anger - "But I say to you that if you are angry with a brother or sister, you will be liable to judgment; and if you insult a brother or sister, you will be liable to the council; and if you say, ‘You fool,’ you will be liable to the hell of fire." - Matthew 5:22 - "When you are angry, do not sin; ponder it on your beds, and be silent." - Psalm 4:4 - “Be angry but do not sin; do not let the sun go down on your anger, and do not make room for the devil.” - Ephesians 4:26-27 - “But now you must get rid of all such things—anger, wrath, malice, slander, and abusive language from your mouth.” - Colossians 3:8 - “You must understand this, my beloved: let everyone be quick to listen, slow to speak, slow to anger” - James 1:19 2. Greed - “. . . but the cares of the world, and the lure of wealth, and the desire for other things come in and choke the word, and it yields nothing.” - Mark 4:19 - “And he said to them, “Take care! Be on your guard against all kinds of greed; for one’s life does not consist in the abundance of possessions.” - Luke 12:15 - “No slave can serve two masters; for a slave will either hate the one and love the other, or be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and wealth.” - Luke 16:13 - “But those who want to be rich fall into temptation and are trapped by many senseless and harmful desires that plunge people into ruin and destruction. For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil, and in their eagerness to be rich some have wandered away from the faith and pierced themselves with many pains.” - 1 Timothy 6:9-10 - “As for those who in the present age are rich, command them not to be haughty, or to set their hopes on the uncertainty of riches, but rather on God who richly provides us with everything for our enjoyment.” - 1 Timothy 6:17 3. Lust - “But I say to you that everyone who looks at a woman with lust has already committed adultery with her in his heart.” - Matthew 5:28 - “Shun fornication! Every sin that a person commits is outside the body; but the fornicator sins against the body itself.” - 1 Corinthians 6:18 - “For this is the will of God, your sanctification: that you abstain from fornication; that each one of you know how to control your own body in holiness and honor, not with lustful passion, like the Gentiles who do not know God” - 1 Thessalonians 4:3-5 - “Let marriage be held in honor by all, and let the marriage bed be kept undefiled; for God will judge fornicators and adulterers.” - Hebrews 13:4 4. Gluttony - “So, whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do everything for the glory of God.” - 1 Corinthians 10:31 - “Their end is destruction; their god is the belly; and their glory is in their shame; their minds are set on earthly things.” - Philippians 3:19 - “Instead, put on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make no provision for the flesh, to gratify its desires.” - Romans 13:14 - “Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or what you will drink, or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothing?” - Matthew 6:25 - “One does not live by bread alone, but by every word that comes from the mouth of God.” - Matthew 4:4 - “Jesus said to them, ‘My food is to do the will of him who sent me and to complete his work.’” - John 4:34 5. Envy - "For as long as there is jealousy and quarreling among you, are you not of the flesh, and behaving according to human inclinations?” - 1 Corinthians 3:3 - “Love is patient; love is kind; love is not envious or boastful or arrogant” - 1 Corinthians 13:4 - “Let us not become conceited, competing against one another, envying one another.” - Galatians 5:26 6. Sloth/Acedia - “Do not lag in zeal, be ardent in spirit, serve the Lord. Rejoice in hope, be patient in suffering, persevere in prayer.” - Romans 12:11-12 - “Whatever your task, put yourselves into it, as done for the Lord and not for your masters” - Colossians 3:23 7. Trevor takes Christ's words seriously that we can only go after one Kingdom. More importantly, he explains the best tips to not be slaves to the things of this world. 1. Make the extraordinary ordinary. Dive into the Scriptures, frequent the sacraments more, pray daily. 2. Make the ordinary extraordinary. Look for God in all created things. Look for God in others. Matthew 6:24-33 “No one can serve two masters; for a slave will either hate the one and love the other, or be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and wealth. “Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or what you will drink, or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothing? Look at the birds of the air; they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they? And can any of you by worrying add a single hour to your span of life? And why do you worry about clothing? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow; they neither toil nor spin, yet I tell you, even Solomon in all his glory was not clothed like one of these. But if God so clothes the grass of the field, which is alive today and tomorrow is thrown into the oven, will he not much more clothe you—you of little faith? Therefore do not worry, saying, ‘What will we eat?’ or ‘What will we drink?’ or ‘What will we wear?’ For it is the Gentiles who strive for all these things; and indeed your heavenly Father knows that you need all these things. But strive first for the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.   Song Credit: Star Visions Of A Champ (KieLoKaz ID 103) by KieLoBot Website: https://wedaretosay.com/ Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/wedaretosay/

Trevor takes a quick stroll through the history of the Catholic Church's teaching on the death penalty along with the reasoning behind it. St. Thomas Aquinas - Summa Contra Gentiles "For those who have been appropriately appointed, there is no sin in administering punishment. For those who refuse to obey God's laws, it is correct for society to rebuke them with civil and criminal sanctions. No one sins working for justice, within the law. Actions that are necessary to preserve the good of society are not inherently evil. The common good of the whole society is greater and better than the good of any particular person." Catechism of the Council of Trent - 1545-1563 "[L]awful slaying" is okay as "an act of paramount obedience to this Commandment which prohibits murder" by giving "security to life by repressing outrage and violence." Catholic Encyclopedia - 1911 ". . . the infliction of capital punishment is not contrary to the teaching of the Catholic Church, and the power of the State to visit upon culprits the penalty of death derives much authority from revelation and from the writings of theologians" ". . . the advisability of exercising that power is, of course, an affair to be determined upon other and various considerations." Pope St. John Paul II - Evangelium Vitae - 1995 Punishment "ought not go to the extreme of executing the offender except in cases of absolute necessity: in other words, when it would not be possible otherwise to defend society. Today however, as a result of steady improvements in the organization of the penal system, such cases are very rare, if not practically non-existent." Trevor explores the depths of magnanimity and how we can properly do great things for the Lord, according to His will. "Magnanimity makes a man deem himself worthy of great things in consideration of the gifts he holds from God." - St. Thomas Aquinas "Their love is not yet ardent enough to overwhelm their reason. How I wish ours would make us dissatisfied with this habit of always serving God at a snail's pace! As long as we do that we shall never get to the end of the road. Do you think that if we could get from one country to another in a week, it would be advisable to take a year over it?" - St. Teresa of Avila "O my God, grant that I may no longer be content with serving You in a small way, but let me do so to the greatest extent of my powers. Help me to make You a complete gift of my soul, emptying it of everything, so that You may take out and put in just what You like, as You would with something of Your own. You refuse to force our will, You take what we give You, but You do not give Yourself wholly until we give ourselves wholly to You. You like everything to be done in order, and You do not work within a soul unless it is wholly Yours, and keeps nothing back." - St. Teresa of Avila "O most loving Word of God, teach me to be generous, to serve You as You deserve: to give and not to count the cost, to fight and not to heed the wounds, to toil and not to seek for rest, to labor and not to ask for any other reward save that of knowing that I do Your holy will" - St. Ignatius of Loyola   Song Credit: Star Visions Of A Champ (KieLoKaz ID 103) by KieLoBot Website: https://wedaretosay.com/ Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/wedaretosay/

Trevor and Jerry do a deep dive into the vibrant history between the Church and adoring Christ present in the Blessed Sacrament. - "Consider how contrary to the mind of God are the heterodox in regard to the grace of God which has come to us. They have no regard for charity, none for the widow, the orphan, the oppressed, none for the man in prison, the hungry or the thirsty. They abstain from the Eucharist and from prayer, because they do not admit that the Eucharist is the flesh of our Savior Jesus Christ, the flesh which suffered for our sins and which the Father, in His graciousness, raised from the dead." - St. Ignatius of Antioch - "Letter to the Smyrnaeans", paragraph 6. circa 80-110 A.D. - "This food we call the Eucharist, of which no one is allowed to partake except one who believes that the things we teach are true, and has received the washing for forgiveness of sins and for rebirth, and who lives as Christ handed down to us. For we do not receive these things as common bread or common drink; but as Jesus Christ our Savior being incarnate by God's Word took flesh and blood for our salvation, so also we have been taught that the food consecrated by the Word of prayer which comes from him, from which our flesh and blood are nourished by transformation, is the flesh and blood of that incarnate Jesus."  - St. Justin Martyr - "First Apology", Ch. 66, inter A.D. 148-155 - "[Christ] has declared the cup, a part of creation, to be his own Blood, from which he causes our blood to flow; and the bread, a part of creation, he has established as his own Body, from which he gives increase to our bodies." - St. Irenaeus of Lyons - Against Heresies, 180 A.D. - "No one eats this flesh unless he has first adored . . . not only do we not sin by adoring, but we would sin by not adoring." - St. Augustine (354-430) - "You who are wont to be present at the divine mysteries, understand here, when you receive the body of the Lord, you are to preserve it with all care and veneration, lest the smallest particle of it should fall." - Origin (184-254) - ". . . partake of it [the Eucharist], giving heed lest thou lose any part of it; for whatever thou shouldest lose would be evidently a loss to thee as from one of thine own members. For tell me, if any one gave thee grains of gold, wouldest thou not hold them with all care, taking heed lest thou shouldest lose any of them and suffer loss? Wilt thou not much more carefully be on thy guard lest a crumb fall from thee of what is more precious than gold and precious stones?" - St. Cyril of Jerusalem (315-386), instructions to the newly baptized - "compositio loci" - composition of place, the "placing" of oneself in the presence of God - Practice of visiting churches for private prayer continued into the middle ages. Bishop St. Arey of Gap (c. 535-604) spent long hours prostrate on the floor. Saint Wenceslaus (c. 907-935) would secretly go out into the countryside reciting psalms and other prayers while visiting various churches one by one. - In the 7th century Chronicles of Alexandria, the Lenten 'Mass of the Presanctified' has an antiphon: "In this moment, the Virtuous of the heavens invisibly adore God with us. Behold that the King of Glory makes His entrance, behold that the mystic sacrifice is presented: approach with faith and with fear, in order to become participants of the life eternal. Alleluia." - "The altar should be covered with clean linen; nothing should be placed on the altar except reliquaries and relics and the four gospel-books, and a pyx with the body of the Lord for the viaticum of the sick; other things should be kept in some seemly place." - Admonitio Synodalis, 9th century - ". . . the pyx or other vessel should always be kept locked super altare, on account of mice or impious men." - Regino, according to Burchard of Worms (died 1025) and Ivo of Chartres (died 1116) held a council for the Diocese of Tours that state this. - "We adore you, Lord Jesus Christ, here and in all your churches in the whole world, and we bless you, because by your holy cross you have redeemed the world." - St. Francis of Assisi, early 1200s - ". . . I beg you to show the greatest possible reverence and honour for the most holy Body and Blood of our Lord Jesus Christ through whom all things, whether on the earth or in the heavens, have been brought to peace and reconciled with Almighty God." - St. Francis of Assisi - "He seemed, as it were, a soul glued to the Blessed Sacrament. Before this hidden God he made all his spiritual exercises - prayers, examens, Office - no matter how intense the rigor of the cold nor the importunity of the insects." - On St. Isaac Jogues by a contemporary - "To be able to live this life of vows, those four vows, we need our life to be woven with the Eucharist. That's why we begin our day with Jesus in the Holy Eucharist. With Him, we go forward. And when we come back in the evening we have one hour of adoration before Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament, and [at] this you will be surprised, that we have not had to cut down our work for the poor, the ten hours or twelve hours of service that we give have not been cut down. The one hour of adoration is the greatest gift God could give a congregation because it has brought us so close to each other. We love each other better, but I think we love the poor with greater and deeper faith and love." - St. Teresa of Calcutta - 1976 - 41st Annual Eucharistic Congress - "Unless there is a grave reason to the contrary, a church in which the blessed Eucharist is reserved is to be open to the faithful for at least some hours every day, so that they can pray before the blessed Sacrament." - Code of Canon Law, Canon 937 - 1983 Research from In the Presence of Our Lord: The History, Theology, and Psychology of Eucharistic Devotion Paperback – March 1, 1997 by Benedict J. Trevor and Jerry explore what virtuous friendships are by examining how they got one. Number 1 Takeaway: A virtuous friendship is worth having with even just one person. Aristotle's 3 Types of Friendships 1. Friendship of Utility 2. Friendship of Pleasure 3. Friendship of Goodness Friendships of Goodness encompasses the other two. They are the most enduring, high quality, and best. They take awhile to happen and effort, though. These friendships are necessary and splendid. A solid community cannot exist without friendships of goodness, and thus it cannot exist without an objective good. "Such was the prelude to our friendship, the kindling of that flame that was to bind us together. In this way we began to feel affection for each other. When, in the course of time, we acknowledged our friendship and recognized that our ambition was a life of true wisdom, we became everything to each other: we shared the same lodging, the same table, the same desires the same goal. Our love for each other grew daily warmer and deeper. The same hope inspired us: the pursuit of learning. This is an ambition especially subject to envy. Yet between us there was no envy. On the contrary, we made capital out of our rivalry. Our rivalry consisted, not in seeking the first place for oneself but in yielding it to the other, for we each looked on the other’s success as his own. We seemed to be two bodies with a single spirit. Though we cannot believe those who claim that everything is contained in everything, yet you must believe that in our case each of us was in the other and with the other. Our single object and ambition was virtue, and a life of hope in the blessings that are to come; we wanted to withdraw from this world before we departed from it. With this end in view we ordered our lives and all our actions. We followed the guidance of God’s law and spurred each other on to virtue. If it is not too boastful to say, we found in each other a standard and rule for discerning right from wrong. Different men have different names, which they owe to their parents or to themselves, that is, to their own pursuits and achievements. But our great pursuit, the great name we wanted, was to be Christians, to be called Christians." The opposite of love is not hate. That is a lack of love. The opposite of love is fear. "All the unhappiness of men arises from one single fact, that they cannot stay quietly in their own chamber." - Blaise Pascal "Agitation becomes a tranquilizer, a sedative, a morphine pump, a sort of reverie, an incoherent dream-world. But this noise is a dangerous, deceptive medicine, a diabolic lie that helps man avoid confronting himself in his interior emptiness. The awakening will necessarily be brutal." - Robert Cardinal Sarah "From morning to evening, from evening to morning, silence no longer has any place at all; the noise tries to prevent God himself from speaking. In this hell of noise, man disintegrates and is lost; he is broken up into countless worries, fantasies, and fears. In order to get out of these depressing tunnels, he desperately awaits noise so that it will bring him a few consolations. Noise is a deceptive, addictive, and false tranquilizer. The tragedy of our world is never better summed up than in the fury of senseless noise that stubbornly hates silence. This age detests the things that silence brings us to: encounter, wonder, and kneeling before God." - Robert Cardinal Sarah "To refuse silence filled with confident fear and adoration is to refuse God the freedom to take hold of us by his love and presence." - Robert Cardinal Sarah Resource - The Power of Silence: Against the Dictatorship of Noise by Robert Cardinal Sarah   Song Credit: Star Visions Of A Champ (KieLoKaz ID 103) by KieLoBot Website: https://wedaretosay.com/ Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/wedaretosay/

Trevor and Jerry talk about the power of recognizing God's presence at every moment: how to do it, why you should do it, and the benefits (hint: It's holiness.). Thanks Br. Lawrence of the Resurrection! Tips for Practicing the Presence of God 1. "The first way is a great purity of life." 2. "The second is a great faithfulness to the practice of His presence and an interior gaze on God which should always be quiet, humble and loving without succumbing to any difficulties or disquietude." 3. " It is necessary to take particular care to begin, if only for a moment, your exterior actions with this interior gaze and that you do the same while you are doing them and when you have finished them. Since it is necessary to devote much time and effort to acquiring this habit you must not be discouraged when you fail since the habit is formed only with difficulty; but once you have acquired it, you will experience great joy." 4. Ejaculatory Prayers - "It would be pertinent for those who undertake this practice to make up interiorly short ejaculations such as 'My God, I am all yours,' 'God of love, I love You with all my heart,' 'Lord, make me according to Your heart,' and any such words that love may beget on the spur of the moment. But they must be careful that the mind does not wander and return again to worldly things; they should stay close to God alone so that the mind, urged and impelled by the will, is forced to stay with God." Benefits of the Practice of the Presence of God 1. "The first benefit of the soul receives from the presence of God is that faith becomes more alive and more active in every occasion of our life, particularly in our times of need, since it readily obtains grace for us in our temptations and in our unavoidable dealings with our fellow men; for the soul, accustomed by this exercise to rely on faith, by a simple act of recollection sees and feels God present, calls on Him freely and efficaciously, and obtains what it needs. You could say that doing this enables the soul to approach the state of the Blessed; the more it advances, the more alive its faith becomes, and finally it becomes so penetrating that the soul can almost say: 'I no longer believe, since I see and I experience.'" 2. "The practice of the presence of God strengthens us in our hope; our hope grows in proportion to our knowledge; to the extent that our faith by this holy practice penetrates the mysteries of the divinity, to that extent does it discover in God a beauty that surpasses infinitely not only that of the bodies we see on earth but that of the most perfect souls and that of the angels; and so our hope grows and is strengthened, encouraged and sustained by the grandeur of this good which it desires to enjoy and that in some way it savors." 3. "It inspires in the will a contempt of worldly things and inflames it with the fire of divine love which, coming from God, is a consuming fire that reduces to ashes whatever is opposed to it; and this soul thus inflamed can live only in the presence of its God, a presence which produces in the heart a holy ardor, a sacred eagerness and a fervent desire to see this God, loved, known, served and adored by all creatures."   Song Credit: Star Visions Of A Champ (KieLoKaz ID 103) by KieLoBot Website: https://wedaretosay.com/ Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/wedaretosay/

I can only see the present, I forget the past and I take good care not to think about the future. We get discouraged and feel despair because we brood about the past and the future. It is such folly to pass one's time fretting, instead of resting quietly on the heart of Jesus." - St. Thérèse of Lisieux Active Loyalty: obeying the laws of God and the Church and fulfilling all the duties imposed on us by our way of life Passive Loyalty: lovingly accepting all that God sends us at each moment of the day "If a faithful soul accepts God's will and purpose in all simplicity, he will reach perfection without ever realizing it, just as a sick man who swallows his medicine obediently will be cured, although he neither knows nor cares about medicine. We need know nothing about the chemistry of combustion to enjoy the warmth of a fire. Holiness is produced in us by the will of God and our acceptance of it. It is not produced by intellectual speculation about it." - Caussade "We may meditate, indulge in contemplation, pray aloud, practice interior silence, live an active life or one withdrawn from the world, and though they may all be valuable, there is nothing better for us than to do what God wants at any particular moment." - Caussade "He walks above the smallest blades of grass and the cedar groves, and treads the grains of sand as well as the mountain peaks. Wherever we have trodden he has been, and if we constantly pursue him we shall find him no matter where we are." - Caussade "There is no peace more wonderful than the peace we enjoy when faith shows us God in all created things. All that is dark becomes light, and what is bitter sweet. Faith transforms ugliness into beauty, and malice into kindness." - Caussade "Everything leads you to this union with him.
