La magie de Noel opère avec des événements autour de sa cathédrale : Notre Dame de Chartres. Encore un sanctuaire marial. La vierge Marie y est présente 170 fois. Pourquoi ? En 876, le roi de France Charles II le Chauve offre à Chartres la Sancta Camisa, la Sainte chemise, qu'il détenait de son grand père Charlemagne. Marie l'aurait porté le jour de la naissance de Jésus. Lorsqu'on ouvre enfin le coffre qui la protège en 1712, on découvre que c'est en réalité un voile de soie. La relique portera désormais le nom de Voile de la Vierge, qui est à l'origine de nombreux pèlerinages. Mais la cathédrale abrite aussi un autre grand Trésor dans sa chapelle saint-Piat. 150 objets dédiés à la célébration et à l'ornement du service divin, dont certains servent encore aujourd'hui pour les grandes cérémonies comme une navette absolument incroyable : un coquillage ceint dans une monture d'orfèvrerie.Donc la visite de la cathédrale s'impose, doublement j'imagine pendant les fêtes ?Oui avec un mapping spécial fêtes dans le cadre de Chartres en lumières. Une création artistique spectaculaire pour cette cathédrale, qui a été la première à être classée, notamment pour ses vitraux. Le plus connu, Notre dame de la Belle Verrière pour son célèbre "Bleu de Chartres" très lumineux et mieux conservé que les autres couleurs. A base entre autres de Cobalt cuivre et fer. Autre découverte à faire au cœur de la Cathédrale : son labyrinthe qui a servi de modèle dans le reste du monde. Un pèlerinage intérieur pour méditer sur le passage de mort a la vie éternelle. Et puis pour aller encore plus loin dans l'histoire de la cathédrale et de Chartres, je vous recommande le spectacle immersif "Mille ans d'éclat" à l'Enclos de Loens. Like the builders of the great Cathedral of Chartres, who labored their whole lives without seeing the completed church, Christians often see only a small part of God's grand design. Yet faith looks beyond the dust and struggle to the finished work of Christ. John's vision in Revelation 7 shows a great multitude from every nation standing before the throne—those who have come out of great tribulation and been washed in the blood of the Lamb. These saints did not live easy lives, but through faith in Christ they now rest in His peace. The Beatitudes remind us that true blessing is not found in worldly comfort or success, but in belonging to Jesus, even amid suffering. The hymn For All the Saints proclaims this comfort: the saints are not gone, but at home with the Lord, awaiting the resurrection. The goal of faith is not a “blessed life,” but a blessed death—dying in Christ's forgiveness and rising to everlasting life. Through Baptism, Absolution, and the Holy Supper, we are already joined to that victory. Here on earth, the Church militant struggles, but it is never alone. At the altar, heaven and earth meet; the saints and angels worship with us in one eternal song: “This is the feast of victory for our God!” Like Michelangelo painting the Sistine Chapel, we see only pieces of the picture now. But when Christ returns and the scaffolding of this world falls away, we will see the masterpiece complete—the redemption of all God's people. Tragique accident ce week-end dans le Nord de l'Alsace. Deux femmes de 19 et 21 ans sont décédées après un choc frontal avec un second véhicule, hier matin vers 07h30, dans le secteur d'Offendorf. Le conducteur de la voiture, âgé de 18 ans, mais aussi la conductrice de l'autre véhicule impliqué, âgée de 19 ans, ont été hospitalisés en urgence absolue.Autre drame dans le village d'Alteckendorf. Une femme de 88 ans a été retrouvée décédée vendredi. Son petit-fils de 26 ans, présentant des troubles psychiatriques, a été interpellé. Il est soupçonné d'avoir assassiné sa grand-mère à coups de couteau. Son état de santé jugé incompatible avec une garde à vue, le jeune homme a été hospitalisé en psychiatrie.A Val-de-Moder, un quarantenaire aurait tenté de tuer son ex-conjointe dans la soirée de vendredi. L'individu aurait au moins porté un couteau de couteau à la gorge de la victime, qui a été hospitalisée en urgence absolue. Son pronostic vital n'est aujourd'hui plus engagé. NYTT AVSNITT UTE: På resande fot: Kölns domkyrka I somras reste vi till Köln och besökte den magnifika Kölner Dom – en av Europas främsta gotiska katedraler. Grundstenen lades den 15 augusti 1248 på den plats där en tidig kristen basilika från romartiden tidigare stått, i den forna romerska kolonin Colonia Claudia Ara Agrippinensium – på latin "Den klaudiska kolonin med altaret till Agrippinas ära", oftast kallad enbart Colonia.Vid denna tid ville man uppföra en katedral värdig att hysa de tre vise männens reliker, vilka 1164 fördes från Milano till Köln av ärkebiskop Rainald von Dassel under kejsar Barbarossas italienska fälttåg. W Dolinie Loary jest ponad 300 zamków i pałaców usytuowanych nad Loarą i jej dopływami. Zachwycają nie tylko architekturą i kolekcjami zgromadzonych dzieł, ale i mnogością fascynujących historii romansów, intryg i dramatycznych epizodów, które poznaliśmy.Zwiedziliśmy zamek w Blois, ulubioną rezydencję królów Francji w okresie renesansu i zamek w Amboise, przy którego powstawaniu brał udział Leonardo da Vinci. Ostatnie lata mistrz spędził w innym zamku w Dolinie Loary, w Clos Luce. Byliśmy w zamku w Chenonceau, najczęściej odwiedzanym, zaraz po Wersalu, zamku we Francji, w zamku w Azay-le-Rideau, gdzie w 1189 r. podpisano traktat kończący wojnę angielsko – francuską, a także w zamku w Chaumont, w którym Katarzyna Medycejska konkurowała z Dianą de Pointiers o przychylność Henryka II. Zajrzeliśmy do zamku w Chambord, w którym schronił się Stanisław Leszczyński, elekcyjny władca Rzeczypospolitej i do zamku w Montresor, jedynego takiego obiektu w polskich rękach nie tylko we Francji, ale i w Europie.Na naszej trasie znalazły się też zamki w Villandry, Saumur, Montreuil-Bellay, Chinon i Angers, a także opactwo w Fontevraud, Orlean, Tours, Vendome, Vouvray i katedra w Chartres. Gościem Jerzego Jopa była Grażyna Woźniczka, współtwórczyni i współwłaścicielka Polka Travel, kulturoznawca, latynoamerykanistka i filolog.

Il en faut, des rencontres, des enseignements, des témoignages, des illuminations même, comme des joies et des tristesses, pour en arriver là. C'est notre chemin à tous. L'idée est d'octroyer davantage de pouvoir aux 133 préfets de l'Hexagone, leur conférant ainsi une autorité plus importante que celle des agences de l'État et des directions générales publiques, afin de simplifier l'action des pouvoirs publics, dans l'espoir de faire des économies. "Les préfets ont pour responsabilité de faire travailler ensemble ceux qui travaillent pour l'État", a expliqué le Premier ministre. "C'est une légitimité nouvelle donnée à la décentralisation. Les élus n'auront plus qu'un seul interlocuteur. C'est un moyen de rendre la dépense publique plus efficace. Cette nouvelle organisation de l'action publique est une manière de rendre plus efficace l'utilisation de l'argent", a ajouté le chef du gouvernement, qui alerte depuis des semaines sur la nécessité de redresser les finances publiques.François Bayrou a d'ailleurs insisté sur le fait que la France "est en danger mortel. It was interrupted on 5 July when a small English army commanded by Henry, Earl of Lancaster, relieved and resupplied the town. The French king, John II, attempted to bring Lancaster to battle with the much larger French royal army, but Lancaster avoided this. John then renewed the siege of Breteuil.The French force attracted praise for its splendour and the high status of many of its participants, but it made little progress as the town was well-garrisoned and had been left by Lancaster with food for a year. John attempted to mine under the walls, to no avail. Meanwhile, Edward the Black Prince, the son and heir of the English king, assembled an Anglo-Gascon army at Bergerac in south-west France. On 4 August this marched into French-held territory, devastating the countryside as it went. At some point in August an unusually large mobile siege tower was pushed up to the walls of Breteuil and an assault launched. The defenders set fire to the tower and repulsed the attack, inflicting many casualties. Taking Breteuil became a matter of prestige for John and he refused to take the army south to face the Black Prince. Eventually, some time around 20 August, John gave the garrison of Breteuil free passage to the Cotentin in north-west Normandy and a huge bribe to persuade them to vacate Breteuil. All available French forces were then concentrated at Chartres to oppose the Black Prince. John and his army pursued the Black Prince's force, cut off their retreat and forced it to battle at Poitiers. Arising from the McGrath Institute for Church Life, the Sullivan Undergraduate Saints Fellowship forms Notre Dame students as leaders in the study and spirituality of the saints. We launched this fellowship in 2025 with an inaugural cohort of 12 students selected from a pool of many, many applicants. As part of their fellowship, our saints fellows completed a course this past semester (with yours truly) on praying with the saints. Next year they will become leaders of other undergraduate students, as they form groups of students who pray together and serve together in a manner common to a saint each fellow selects. But in between the course they complete and the year of leadership they undertake, the whole cohort of 12 fellows, along with me and a chaplain, make a pilgrimage to immerse ourselves in the cultures that gave rise to particular saints––cultures which, in turn, these saints renewed and enriched. This year's pilgrimage was to France, specifically: Paris, Chartres, Lisieux, LeMans, Tours, and Lourdes. Today, two of our Sullivan Undergraduate Saints Fellows join me to talk about the meaning and significance of this pilgrimage with the saints. In this week's conversation between Dr. James Emery White and co-host Alexis Drye, they discuss Barna Group teaming up with the Aspen Group design firm to explore possible connections between spiritual formation and the physical spaces that we inhabit. Questions such as: What does it mean to be formed as a follower of Jesus? And can the spaces that we meet in help motivate this growth? Also, how might our physical experiences of a church relate to our worship and understanding of God? In simple terms, they were trying to determine whether it's best for churches to look “churchy.” Episode Links Daniel Silliman wrote an article in Christianity Today which sparked today's conversation. It's titled “Americans Think Church Should Look Churchy,” and Silliman said that the survey found that most people “don't like trendy, modern buildings.” Dr. White would argue that while people do indeed want to attend church in a space that is sacred, spiritual and safe, that doesn't necessarily mean they want it to look overly churchy like some of the medieval churches in Europe. He wrote a blog recently about this topic titled “Churches Looking Churchy” which you can read HERE. There's another recent blog that was written by Dr. White that was referenced in this episode. It's called “This Is Church,” where Dr. White addresses how many businesses and parachurch organizations can try to step in and supplant themselves as the church when they most definitely are not. It's time for a day of stained glass windows and gothic churches, featuring a visit to three key churches and cathedrals. We begin this day trip with Chartres, a little town to the south west of Paris. Trusty tour guide Bertrand d'Aleman, from award-winning travel company My Private Paris, explains how we're in the midst of a gothic church (and stained glass window) revival. We took the train to Chartres, then spent half a day exploring the cathedral and the town. C dans l'air du 31 janvier 2025 - Châteaudun : une lycéenne victime de la drogue au volant La commune de Châteaudun en Eure-et-Loir est en deuil, au lendemain de l'accident mortel impliquant un car scolaire qui transportait plusieurs dizaines d'élèves. Le véhicule a quitté la chaussée jeudi matin avant de se retrouver couché sur le bas-côté : la sortie de route a coûté la vie à une lycéenne de 15 ans et a blessé 20 autres élèves. Le conducteur, âgé de 26 ans et inconnu de la justice, a été placé en garde à vue. Un premier test salivaire aux stupéfiants s'est "révélé positif", et le parquet de Chartres a indiqué, ce mercredi midi, que les résultats de la prise de sang révèlent que le chauffeur avait consommé de la résine de cannabis avant l'accident. Le conducteur, lui, nie une consommation récente. "Le gardé à vue continue d'indiquer, pour sa part, qu'il s'agit non pas d'une consommation de produits stupéfiants mais d'une contamination passive qui expliquerait la présence ainsi détectée, n'ayant pas consommé de produits stupéfiants depuis le mois de décembre dernier", a-t-il poursuivi. C'est sa compagne qui consomme régulièrement, indique-t-il, et qui pourrait être à l'origine de ce résultat.
