This week, we head to 1964 to discuss John Frankenheimer's “The Train,” a film that begs the question: How much do train mechanics know about art? Just kidding, it's an awesome film with Burt Lancaster in the lead performance butting heads with legendary antagonist Paul Scofield as an SS Captain hoping to smuggle French art from Paris to Germany before the Allies liberate France's capital city. Fortunately, the French have the infamous Underground! Grab a drink and give us a listen! Our phone number is 646-484-9298. Altoona, Pennsylvania, 1966. Nineteen-year-old Frank Davis stands on the edge of adulthood in a tumultuous time of American history, brought to life in Fred J. Lauver's new novel, Heart in the Jungle - Mountain City. Frank's middle-class neighborhood has streets named after poets, in contrast to the reality of the city's industrial lands, the remains of the coal and railroad industries. Amid this, Frank dreams of rock stardom with his band, while living a somewhat-sheltered life that hearkens back to a decade before. The Vietnam War hangs heavy over the nation, and while patriotism remains strong, the feeling pervades many that this is a war we should not be fighting. Frank enlists in the Air Force, only to find he's been drafted, by the seemingly standard practice of the local board. Efforts of wealthier families, determined to keep their sons from this war resort to extreme measures and Frank is caught up in it. All the while, Frank tries to find love. His lifelong friend Jeannette Wiley is gone, the allure of Sarah Meade, the girl everyone wants, and the courtship of Brandi Jo Pulinni, guided by her Italian-American family's ever-changing perceptions. A native of Altoona, Fred is the author of works including Aziza, the Caves of Mars, and Olympus. His short stories have appeared in anthologies such as The Darkened Doorstep, and Bitter Sweet. He co-authored The Pennsylvania Trail of History cookbook and was assistant editor of Pennsylvania Heritage magazine. Find out more about Fred here.

John and Frank also cover the need to protect employees' personally identifiable information and employers' confidential and proprietary business information.
On June 24th 1966, a 13 year old girl, Cathie Ward was found dead after she spent a day horseback riding at Blacksnake Ranch. The ranch owner, Frank Davis, told police that she fell from the horse and her foot got caught in the stirrup. Then the horse dragged her through a field full of rocks and crystals. Frank Davis had a bad reputation around Hot Springs, Arkansas and for good reason. Cathie's death was ruled an accident but the investigation resurfaced after Frank was arrested for the murder of his wife less than a year later. Bitty Martin wrote about this story in her book, "Snake Eyes." She was a close friend of Cathie Ward. She spent years working on it and interviewed over 50 people. I definitely recommend it to everyone.

This week Tee is delighted to welcome Frank Davis! He has been in the health and wellness industry for over 30 years and is passionate about providing effective and uncompromising nutritional products. As a child, Frank had every conceivable childhood disease and struggled throughout childhood and adolescence with a compromised immune system. In his early 40s after dealing with hepatitis, mononucleosis, and pneumonia, Frank ended up with chronic fatigue syndrome which incapacitated him and naturally took him out of the activities he loved. During the nine months he struggled with chronic fatigue, Frank became obsessed with finding a solution and researched all options –medical and nutritional. After attending a symposium composed of numerous PhDs from various Universities across the country, Frank learned quickly of the compromised quality of the United States' food supply. He learned that our foods are grown in nutrient-deficient soils, treated with toxic herbicides, pesticides, and fungicides, and transported thousands of miles over weeks of time before arriving at our homes. After these revelations, Frank set out to find a way to ensure that the foods he ingested had all of the original health benefits that God had designed them to have. In partnership with nutritional scientists, Frank developed Optivida, a premium nutritional supplement that contains 100% of the vitamins and nutrients that are so desperately absent in our food supply. At 76 years old Frank is still in the prime of health. Few have seen the evolution of tarpon fishing in the famous Boca Grande Pass as Frank Davis. In the early 1960's, his family moved there and as far back as he can remember his Dad used to take him tarpon fishing. Pass fishing for tarpon began in the late 1880's and by 1910 Boca Grande was booming. Over the next hundred and thirteen years Presidents, athletes, and movie stars were there to capture this prized fish and a photograph of a dead tarpon hanging next to them. In his teenage years, Frank worked on a harbor pilot boat, eventually becoming a mate on a 60 foot Hatteras. At age twenty five, he captained a boat that won his first marlin tournament - cashing in a hundred thousand dollars. But his heart was alway with the fish that swam in the pass where he caught his first silver king. Thirty six years ago he started guiding his home waters and has witnessed first hand the abuse by fishermen there by poor etiquette, pressure, snagging, tournaments, and greed. He championed the ban of jig fishing and the deadly Professional Tarpon Tournament Series. Frank Davis is now regarded as the voice of reason for fishing the fabled waters of Boca Grande.
