A decade ago, Ryan Thompson was a key figure in Campbell's rise to a mid-major baseball power and regular NCAA postseason participant. In the last five seasons, he has gone on to reach the major leagues and pitch in two World Series. After a standout junior college career in the Pacific Northwest Ryan crossed the country to join the Fighting Camels and helped his team win 90 games over two seasons. He led the nation and was Big South pitcher of the year in 2013 and led the Camels to their first NCAA postseason berth in 24 years one year later. Drafted by the Houston Astros, Ryan steadily moved up the minor league ladder – faced a serious surgery – then joined the Tampa Bay Rays and played an important role in their 2020 American League Championship run. Three years later, he was again pitching in the World Series – this time for the Arizona Diamondbacks. Through the years, Ryan has stayed in close contact with his Campbell roots, making regular visits – most recently for a Baseball Alumni gathering around Homecoming in Buies Creek. In the next installment of Tales from the Creek, Campbell baseball alum Ryan Thompson talks with Stan Cole about growing up in Oregon, his path to Campbell, playing college baseball, reaching the big leagues, his personal faith and more.

Rockets forward Tari Eason has been out with a leg injury but was seen on the Rockets bench wearing a shirt that read "Warriors come out to play," referencing the 1979 film "The Warriors." However, the taunt seemed to have backfired as the Warriors dominated through every quarter. The Rockets now sit four games behind the Warriors for the final spot in the Play-In Tournament, but the Rockets will lose the tiebreaker to the Warriors who swept the season series 3-0, making it five games needed to surpass the Warriors. The Astros will take on the Texas Rangers on Friday for the first of a four-game series in Arlington. The inter-state rivalry picks up where if left-off after the Rangers defeated the Astros in a seven-game American League Championship. Hunter Brown will start on the mound for the Astros. Matt and Ross break down the Texans reworking Stefon Diggs' contract following the trade with the Buffalo Bills, give their top walk-up songs for "Fantasy Five" and more.

We talk about what we got right and what we got wrong. We focus on what went well, the pitching, and what we were surprised to see. It was a very fun opening round, which saw the Guardians finally start to get some of the attention and respect they deserve. Next up is looking at the Cleveland Guardians and New York Yankees rosters. The big news was that Aroldis Chapman was let go, and while it is nice for the Yankees to have one less lefty. Yet it is hard to ignore that he was awful this year. We discuss the issues with the Yankees pen, the injuries that have mounted, and who their third starter is likely to be. We also talk about the possible changes to the Guardians roster. Who does Aaron Civale replace, and what happens if Nick Sandlin can't pitch?  Lastly, we talk about this Yankees team in general. We get into why it is that the Yankees struggled down the stretch. Tons of college basketball and even the start of Major League Baseball Spring Training are part of our show this week. Host TJ Rives is back and ready to talk tons of college hoops, as were just days away from the month of March cranking up. First, TJ welcomes Brian Edwards, senior handicapper of MajorWager.com ( http://www.majorwager.com ) and Vegas Insider back to the show, he and TJ discuss the midweek Hoops action, including some Thursday Underdogs that they are looking strongly at for this week. Who likes a possible upset of the Houston Cougars and which Big Ten team is on the radar for a possible Underdog alert, as well Thursday? Next up is the YouTube Roundtable, as TJ is joined by DeShaun Tate of "Tate Take" the show and podcast. And, they also welcome, Steve Carney of the New *Tampa Bay Rays* website StPete9. com. Deshaun has the latest on Michigan State getting their act together just in time for March and the Madness. Meanwhile, Steve was on hand at spring training as the Tampa Bay Rays reported midweek to begin defense of their American League Championship. Deshaun goes over whether he would back the *Gonzaga Bulldogs* or the Baylor Bears against the rest of the NCAA tournament field? And, Steve lays out how fans are going to be allowed to be part of Spring Training and the start of the baseball regular season. Then. Brian rejoins TJ for the final segment of the show talking Saturday college hoops, including a couple of fascinating early matchups in the ACC and the Big 12? Will the guys go for a couple of the Underdogs, as regular season play is about to culminate in the power conferences. In 1980, Willie Mays Aikens was seemingly on top of the world. Along with future Hall of Famer George Brett, Willie Wilson and Dennis Leonard, the former first baseman helped lead his Kansas City Royals to 97 victories and a spot in the World Series against the Philadelphia Phillies. The Royals would end up losing in six games, but, still…they'd walk away with some pretty sharp American League Championship rings. Less than a year later, Aikens' ring was gone. Missing. It would stay that way for more than 33 years.

The Toronto Blue Jays lost 2-0 behind a complete game gem from Marcos Estrada. It was the hitters' inability to cash in runners when they had the chance that is behind this loss.
