As Ashley discusses in this episode and as she discussed in Episode 22 of Concussion Chats, a Monday night game of dodge ball resulted in a concussion that has transformed the way she interacts with the world. It also affects how her identical twin sister Amy and she interact. Erin and I talk to Ashley and Amy to see how life changed both of their lives.
The vision Ashley Jones had as the Founder of Love Not Lost came from her personal and heart-breaking story. Having a daughter with a terminal illness, and being gifted portrait sessions, Ashley wanted to pay it forward and started offering free portrait sessions to anyone she met with a terminal diagnosis. As she donated more and more sessions, she realized that something greater was taking shape. As this shape was forming into a non-profit, Ashley asked three key friends to join her on theboard of directors, whom she knew would have not only the talent, but more importantly, the heart, to get Love Not Lost off the ground with her. Since then, their board, staff, volunteers, and their collective heart to serve has continued to grow. Ashley and the team at Love Not Lost are on a mission to revolutionize the way we grieve in America. They started by photographing people facing a terminal diagnosis to capture beautiful memories for those they love. Through their photography program, they give each family a hand-crafted custom-designed photo album with the best photos from their session to enjoy and pass along as a legacy. As they photographed more and more families, they kept hearing similar stories: sometimes they were the only ones showing up. Friends, family, communities were disappearing leaving these people feeling alone, unloved, and abandoned by the ones they thought they could count on for support. As Ashley would speak at events, people would continually come up to her saying things like, “My co-worker just lost a baby, what do I do?” or “My friend's dad just died, how can I support them?” They saw a community of people who wanted to help and show up for the people they loved who were hurting but they didn't know how. This inspired them to launch their community support program as well as their corporate care program. You can see some of the Grief & Empathy Tools they've created to help equip and empower people to support their loved ones in grief, but there's more on the way! Discussion Topics Ashley's backstory of founding Love Not Lost from the tragic loss of her daughter. How the fundamental question of “how can we love people better?” influences Ashley's leadership decisions and team's mission. How Love Not Lost evolved into providing corporate care programs geared towards helping leaders with grief and empathy tools in the workplace. Ways in which leaders can serve their team members when dealing with traumatic events in their lives like grieving loved ones. Technology has made our lives easier but it has also fragmented our leisure time, creating a near-universal feeling that we have too much to do and not enough time to do it. Today we speak with Harvard Business School Assistant Professor Ashley Whillans about how our views of money and experience of time poverty impact our sense of well-being. We open our conversation by exploring the idea of time poverty, with Ashley unpacking the many factors that contribute towards feeling time-poor. Diving into the specifics, we talk about how different income groups experience time poverty and how these feelings are influenced by job satisfaction. After looking into differences in how we value time and money, Ashley shares research into how lower-income women benefit as much from being given extra time as they do from being given money. We then discuss the predictors of whether someone will prioritize time or money before chatting about the best practices and tips that will save you time and boost your well-being. Later, we hear Ashley’s insights into why wealth doesn’t lead to happiness and the need to engage in meaningful activities that increase the value of your time. With such radical changes in our work environments, we reflect on how work-from-home often deepens our feelings of time poverty. We wrap our discussion with Ashley by touching on retiring early versus working for longer, why you don’t need wealth to feel consistent happiness, and how you can incorporate time poverty into your financial planning. As Ashley’s research shows, money can be as integral as time in living a happier, more fulfilling life. Tune in to hear more about the connection between time poverty and your well-being. We’re excited to have XYPN member Ashley Murphy, Founder of Areté Wealth and the Global Financial Planning Institute (GFP), on the show today. This is Ashley’s second time sharing his career journey and expertise in the expat space on #XYPNRadio. Today, he joins us to give us an update on how a niche can turn into a full-blown industry-shaking initiative. After recognizing a gap in technical training for cross-border and international planning, Ashley spearheaded an initiative to create content, training, and a designation around the expertise. As Ashley discusses on the podcast, advising in this space is complicated and, like other niches, demands a specific level of competence. Ashley shares how the GFP, which once was a passion project, is now changing the direction of his firm and encourages anyone who wants to get into this space to do so. According to Ashley, the number of clients in dire need of cross-border planning from an advisor who has done their research is unlimited, to be exact. If you’re interested in turning your passion project into a successful second business, this is the episode for you. For The Good is a community created for sharing uplifting messages and stories with the intention to inspire and impact people in a deeper, meaningful way. After digging in, Ashley and her husband Jordan recognized how our mindset impacts the way we live our life - and in the way we react to what comes our way. As Ashley shares in this week's new episode, through their experiences they've learned how important it is to have a strong mindset based on positivity and gratitude. Through For The Good, Ashley and Jordan strive to uplift people through the elevation of mindset - with the understanding that although we don't control what happens to us in life, we do control how we respond. As Ashley so beautifully shares, when you realize the power to overcome anything that comes your way is already within you, you will feel an empowerment like never before. What can *really* change your reproductive life? Two things we talk about in today's episode of Hormonally Speaking. I absolutely loved having this conversation with Ashley Marie, who is a licensed Massage & Bodywork Therapist specializing in Arvigo Techniques of Maya Abdominal Therapy. And if you've never heard of Maya Abdominal Therapy, you are about to learn something EVERY woman should know about. You probably know by now that I'm into doing just about anything to help women with their fibroids, and this is one technique that can help tremendously. It also supports every part of your reproductive health, and can be particularly helpful with bringing back periods, easing period pain, and normalizing your cycle. We also dive into the other arena I want every woman to be educated on - FAM (Fertility Awareness Method). As Ashley mentions, it's 99.4% effective when done correctly. And even beyond fertility or birth control, FAM does SO much to connect you to your body and overall health. I wish I would've known about it as a teen, which Ashley and I also talk about. Being empowered with FAM at a younger age could help with so many issues that come up around sex and body autonomy. Ashley Marie is a Licensed Massage & Bodywork Therapist specializing in Arvigo Techniques of Maya Abdominal Therapy and Intuitive Bodywork. After suffering from irregular and painful menstrual cycles for most of her life and getting no help in understanding them from her medical providers, she decided to trust that the healing was in her own hands. With a combination of herbs, massage and dietary changes she now has a regular, pain free cycle that she looks forward to each month. She is passionate about creating a space for women to transform their menstrual realities with womb work, reproductive health education and practical self~care rituals. She lives in an forested community in the Mountains near Asheville, NC with her husband and 4 children. Follow Ashley on IG at https://www.instagram.com/rooted.feminine/.

As Ashley likes to say, gird your loins, Early Birds. We are heading into some rough waters these next few episodes. Secrets, lies, and jealousy are back in full force, and we are not happy about it. We're worried about what's ahead for Canem, our sweet baby angel Osman is becoming a pawn in whatever game it is that LeyEm is playing, and with Huma & Aylin in the mix, it can only spell disaster all around. Thankfully, we do get a sprinkle of swoon, romance, and comedic relief as well.Question of the Week: Let's talk LeyMan. OsLa? Ugh. There's not even a good ship name for these two. We want to know your feelings about Leyla and Osman after this episode. Should their families and friends have done more to discourage their engagement? We talk as a nation about the imperative of voting but probably not enough about the challenges voters are facing now, just days before the mid-term elections. Ashley Allison, Executive Vice President of The Leadership Conference on Civil and Human Rights, talks to Power Station about the All Voting is Local Campaign, which is building support for, and tackling systemic barriers to, voting in Ohio, Florida, Wisconsin, Pennsylvania and Arizona. This campaign operates as a collaborative with national partners including the ACLU and the American Constitution Society, and local nonprofit partners in communities directly impacted by systemic barriers. Their collective advocacy, litigation, organizing and where possible, partnership with supervisors of elections, has increased the numbers of poll workers and bilingual translators, improved accessibility to voting sites in communities of color and by disabled people. As Ashley explains, this Campaign is one of many embraced by The Leadership Conference, a voice for over 200 powerhouse coalition members, including labor unions, civil rights and LGBTQ organizations. She shares her own journey in social change advocacy, informed by her childhood in Youngstown, Ohio, her experiences as a young teacher in Bed-Study, Brooklyn, and as a lawyer, serving in the Obama Administration's Office of Public Engagement. Ashley is strategic, passionate and inspiring. She is also inspired by others, including Desmond Meade, President of The Florida Rights Restoration Coalition, a leaders on felon disenfranchisement issues, whose work is making a national impact.

Episode 20 is here! How to overcome the pressures of working overtime! It's the 20th episode!! I can't believe it! I just want to thank you for listening - I do not take it lightly at all. Spending 30-45 minutes with this podcast shows me that you all want to be the best women you can be just like I do and that I'm not alone out here in these mom streets. Today's episode is for all of the working moms - most of us have been in a position where we think we have to do it all - especially at work so that we can get that promotion, get that award or recognition, prove our worth in the workplace. As moms, you may have a sense that you are not viewed the same as childless or single employees, because you have home obligations - so to compensate, your work extra hours and stay late. Or come in early, or answer emails before bed. Whatever you do, you are not alone. But, you don't have to do this. There are ways to prioritize, say no!, get your work done, and go home happier and not so exhausted from living a life of all work and no play. Ashley Sutton is my guest, she is the author of Overtime is SO Over, Leave the Office and Get Your Life Back. She gives her personal experiences and research to share how to overcome those ideas of needing to always be available for your employer and always putting in the most time. Those thoughts are a battle and she gives some easy wins on how to stop putting yourself in this position. [bctt tweet="It's not about saying no, it's about saying not right now and prioritizing what you need to get done - Ashley Sutton" username="Mommifaceted"] [bctt tweet="It's all about high performance and high achievement, but that doesn't equate to working crazy hours - Ashley Sutton" username="Mommifaceted"] Ashley's Bio Ashley Sutton began her career in marketing with Fortune 500 beauty company Avon Products, where she built her knowledge in product development, on the North America color cosmetics brand team. Ashley’s eagerness to learn about international business led her to her next role with Mattel (Fisher-Price). Ashley managed the toy development for multiple entertainment preschool brands, such as Mickey Mouse, Thomas the Train, Octonauts, Jake and the Never Land Pirates, among others, across North America, Europe, Latin America, and Asia Pacific. As Ashley’s desire to round out her marketing skills continued, she leapt into consumer and digital marketing with Entertainment One’s family division, where her key responsibilities are to secure digital promotions, oversee social media and blogger outreach, create digital content and assets, and work to develop brand marketing initiatives for preschool licensed brands. Throughout her career journey, she learned a lot about her strengths and opportunities to grow, and better prioritize her life. Working crazy long hours, with very little ROI in your personal life, could either drive you insane, or light a fire to make some serious change. Ashley chose the latter. She was burning the midnight oil, and started to see her health and energy decline. She surveyed friends and colleagues, and found that many of them were all, in some way, shape, or form driving themselves into destruction by working unfathomable hours. She channeled these stories into her newly published book, Overtime Is SO Over. As an avid volunteer, Ashley believes in the power of giving back. She is a mentor and has acted as a national judge for the NAACP Act-So organization, where she helps high school students engage in entrepreneurship, STEM, and the arts. In her spare time, Ashley loves music, travel; and of course, attempting to make her meals look “just like the picture,” when she’s in the kitchen! Follow Ashley Sutton!
