In this episode, Neil and Jason talk to behaviour analyst Michelle Mills-Porter, about the challenges faced by creatives: particularly freelancers who work in ad-hoc teams and find themselves having to adapt to others' behaviour. Through understanding our own driving forces, Michelle explains how we can realise the powerful potential within us all to reap the rewards of our own unique, valuable, and often transferrable, skills. Michelle is a compelling speaker, with an equally compelling back-story; it's one that gives hope to anyone finding themselves questioning their own worth in the current, sometimes bruising, climate of the film and television industry. *The Clarity and Essence reports referred to in this podcast are available to download here About the presenters: You can find more about Michelle and her work here Details about Neil and Jason's work as dialogue editors and mixers and how to contact them is here Details of our 1-to-1, training and coaching programmes for ambitious media professionals are available at: https://www.drneilhillman.com and https://soundproducer.com.au/coaching and www.soundformovingpictures.com Technical notes: Written, produced and presented by Jason Nicholas and Dr Neil Hillman – IMDb Recorded using the CleanFeed remote recording system Programme edited by Jason Nicholas YouTube fair use disclaimer: Where copyrighted material appears in episodes of The Apple and Biscuit Show, it is used under the ‘fair use' guidelines of the Copyright Act: i.e. “Use of these clips follows Fair Use laws regarding commenting and criticising”, where Fair Use allows for the unlicensed use of copyrighted material for purposes such as Commentary, Criticism, Parody, News reporting, Teaching, Scholarship, and Research. In this episode of The Missing Secret Podcast, John and Kelly talk about the most significant things they've learned this year. For Kelly, it was reaffirming her resilience. For John, it was learning the disc profile. Understanding that he is a D. He's an action taker and does things fast and is focused on tasks. Whereas John's precious wife Ginger is a C. She does things slow and is a perfectionist. Also focused on tasks. This has been powerful in John's life to understand this because we all have a natural tendency to think that people who don't see things the way that we see them are simply wrong or inferior. Not so. They're just processing information differently. Appreciating this subtle difference is powerful. And so the takeaway lesson is take the disc profile and understand the personality type you are and the personality type your spouse is. And understand your weaknesses so that you can compensate for them. During this podcast John also talks about the things he learned from his class at the University of Texas. So many interesting things. Most people didn't realize they are WIRED FOR SURVIVAL. And the effect of that is that 75% of their thoughts are fear-based and they're reactive rather than proactive on their important agenda. The other big thing they learned is that 95% OF THEIR DAILY ACTIONS ARE UNCONSCIOUS. And one's daily actions determine your success in each area of your life. And as John points out to them, the think it be it 12 minute a day technique is an actual way of doing life. And what could be a better way of doing life than applying the central concept of the top book in the world on success to your life. The bottom line, it gives you an edge in life. About the Hosts:John MitchellJohn's story is pretty amazing. After spending 20 years as an entrepreneur, John was 50 years old but wasn't as successful as he thought he should be. To rectify that, he decided to find the “top book in the world” on SUCCESS and apply that book literally Word for Word to his life. That Book is Think & Grow Rich. The book says there's a SECRET for success, but the author only gives you half the secret. John figured out the full secret and a 12 minute a day technique to apply it.When John applied his 12 minute a day technique to his life, he saw his yearly income go to over $5 million a year, after 20 years of $200k - 300k per year. The 25 times increase happened because John LEVERAGED himself by applying science to his life. His daily technique works because it focuses you ONLY on what moves the needle, triples your discipline, and consistently generates new business ideas every week. This happens because of 3 key aspects of the leveraging process.John's technique was profiled on the cover of Time Magazine. He teaches it at the University of Texas' McCombs School of Business, which is one the TOP 5 business schools in the country. He is also the “mental coach” for the head athletic coaches at the University of Texas as well.Reach out to John at john@thinkitbeit.comLinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/john-mitchell-76483654/Kelly HatfieldKelly Hatfield is an entrepreneur at heart. The DISC profile test is a widely used behavioral assessment tool designed to measure an individual's personality and behavioral tendencies in various situations. Developed by psychologist William Moulton Marston in the early 20th century, the DISC model categorizes behavior into four primary personality types: Dominance (D), Influence (I), Steadiness (S), and Conscientiousness (C). Each of these personality types is associated with distinct behavioral traits and communication styles: --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/wayne-weathersby/message Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/wayne-weathersby/support

For years I had no idea what the DISC profile really meant, and how it could help me in my career. I poo-pooed the thought that these "personality test" could nail me to a T, and be accurate. Then one day I had a member of my team tell me I was rude and blunt. Let's be honest, I thought she was long-winded and a chatty Cathy. But it did make me start to wonder if there was something to these personality tests, and if I could leverage knowing and understanding them in order to become a better (and more thoughtful!) leader to the people on my team. You know what? IT DID. It absolutely changed how I viewed them, how I walked into a room and spoke to them, and the mindset I took when having the easy, and the not-so-easy conversations they needed in order to grow in their business. Cynthia Matheny is a Realtor turned DISC profile teacher. She helps people all over the country identify what their unique DISC graph is, how to understand it, and better yet....how to use it in their business to become overall better at their job. Are you currently leading a team, diving into a sales role, or like I was and wondering why in the forking shirtballs you sometimes just don't connect with the people you feel you should? If you answered yes to any of those questions then this is the episode for you. Want to take the DISC profile for free? Head to www.realbosswomen.com/disc and I'll give it to ya!Follow Joanne! Evelyn Eccard shares how using these personality analytics to create success is all about how you absorb and expend energy.
I am a listener to the Tim Ferriss Podcast and have been for years. I don't relate with every episode, but some of them really move me to action and inspire me. Here are some examples. Kelly Slater taught me to be humble. Hugh Jackman inspired me to utilize the rowing machine in my workouts! Chris Bosh showed me that my problems aren't that big! In this episode, Elizabeth Gilbert taught me the Art of the Simple No. So many of us struggle with the two-letter word no. It's hard to say. We feel that we need to explain ourselves whenever we decide to use it. Statistically, 32% of all people tested with the DISC Profile are the S-Type for Steadiness. An S-Type person is very loyal, a great listener, easy to talk to, even keel, reliable, and generally tends to be a people-pleaser. Therefore, 1/3 of us out there already have a difficult time saying no. I once heard this and it floored me. "No is a complete sentence." This is exactly what Elizabeth Gilbert is talking about in this clip from the Tim Ferriss Show. The full show is linked in the show notes. I highly recommend the video version available on YouTube so you can see Elizabeth's body posture and gestures as she explains the Simple No. Here's my question. How can you implement this strategy into your life? Would it make your relationships strained? Would it give you more time as you'd be saying no more often? I pondered these questions myself and have been more intentional to place a higher value on my time. I hope you do too. How satisfying is it for Kay Kirkman to host her popular podcast, The GenX Career Show? Beyond! This dynamic career coach has come full circle after being fired early in her career from a dream job working in radio. The experience dashed her confidence and dead-ended her in a series of meaningless jobs. Have you been there? Once she realized how uniquely equipped she was to empathize with people (especially GenXers) in a similar situation, Kay was on her way to launching the coaching practice and podcast following she delights in today. On this episode of She Turned Entrepreneur, we hear about how Kay launched her successful practice, including the inevitable bumps along the way. She learned first-hand how challenging it can be to find the right kind of training and support while navigating a business model for herself. In a world rich with internet resources, it's a huge time-saver (and sanity-saver) to find a mentor, program and/or community that aligns with your entrepreneurial goals and stage of development. You'll learn all about Kay's four-step coaching process, including how she helps clients uncover their core clarity, focus and inspiration – plus actionable tips for first steps to take when making the transition into entrepreneurship. Kay believes that everyone on the planet deserves to find and perform work they enjoy each and every day. When employees are happy at work, stress levels go down while quality of relationships, productivity and overall job satisfaction go up, up, up. Is it time for you to claim your dream? Here's a quick look into the episode:· Kay had no intention of becoming an entrepreneur – until she was fired from her dream job in radio and derailed from her career vision. · Having her confidence crushed left Kay vulnerable to a cycle of jobs about which she didn't care, which felt safer than the risk of being fired again from something she loved.· Kay's practice is centered on several key questions:o Are you doing something you care about?o Do you have a dream job?o If you're not where you want to be, what's holding you back?o What will it take to find your true path?· About how Kay evolved her coaching business:o While she didn't have entrepreneurial models within her family, she did have parents who had demonstrated what it is to work an independent “side hustle.”o Without a coach or mentor, Kay stumbled into a variety of paid online courses that didn't really fit her model or stage of business development.o Figuring out where to find the right resources and information was a challenge.· It's tremendously helpful to start out by finding a mentor or coach who has made a journey similar to the one you want to undertake. · Kay explains the four-step process she uses to help her clients:o Step #1: Deploy a Disc Profile behavior assessment to clarify traits and tendencies.o Step #2: Frame an ideal job scenario. No limits! Dream big! The goal is to get to that thing that lights you up.o Step #3: Move towards milestones, which usually means bumping up against doubts, fears and other mindset issues that arise outside our comfort zones.o Step #4: Evaluate what's working, not working and where to double-down on formulas and tactics that are landing well and advancing goals.· Beyond her four-step process, Kay offers accountability coaching and detailed medium-term plans on which to execute.· Kay connects with her clients through her podcast, making guest appearances and networking through public forums.· Kay's Top Tips for Aspiring Coaches:o Find your tribe – whether a mentor or community.o Be patient with the process.o Don't compare yourself with other coaches. Knowing how to buy a business is a lot like knowing how to buy a rental property. First, you'll need to know the price of the asset, then the cash flow, followed by expenses, and finally the structure. Because buying real estate is perceived as “simpler” than buying a business, most investors decide to go the real estate route—but they could be missing out. Codie Sanchez saw this opportunity when she was working in venture capital and decided to try out the business buying route herself, just on a smaller scale.Codie can be perceived as your classic “value-add” investor, which much of the real estate investing community can relate to. She finds a business that has a strong foundation but lacks the tech or marketing to grow faster or increase its profits. When a business has a strong underlying value, just like a rental property, it's easier than most people think to “renovate” it into something that will sell for far higher.Codie stresses that buying businesses isn't so different from buying real estate. She also categorizes which businesses real estate investors should buy if they're looking to maximize their cash flow and minimize their expenses. With some help from Codie, you could be relying on much more than just rent checks soon! In This Episode We CoverWhat a “value-add business” looks like and how to find undervalued businesses Evaluating and analyzing a business purchase and which key metrics to calculate before making an offerBuying off-market businesses and why most business owners never consider selling (until you ask)The three questions every investor MUST ask before buying a business Buying instead of building and how trying to build a business can cost you much more than just moneyBecoming the business owner, not the operator, and outsourcing everything you can And So Much More!Links from the ShowBiggerPockets Youtube ChannelBiggerPockets ForumsBiggerPockets Pro MembershipBiggerPockets BookstoreBiggerPockets BootcampsBiggerPockets PodcastDavid's YouTube ChannelHear Codie's Interview on The BiggerPockets Business PodcastHow to Use the DISC Profile to Communicate Effectively in Business“Contrarian Thinking” NewsletterQuiet LightBizBuySellEmpire FlippersConnect with David:David's InstagramDavid's BiggerPockets ProfileConnect with Rob:Rob's YoutubeRob's InstagramRob's TikTokRob's TwitterRob's BiggerPockets ProfileConnect with Codie:Codie's TwitterCodie's InstagramCodie's TikTokClick here to check the full show notes: https://www.biggerpockets.com/blog/real-estate-614See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.

On My Job Here Is Done podcast, this is the one about the (dreaded?) personality test. You've all heard about these, and a lot of you have taken one ... or you will soon! Personality tests or assessments are designed to try to get into your head and see what's really in there. They claim to be able to profile you into several different categories or traits to be compared to other people. The original purpose of these tests was to help a person understand themselves better, but lately, they are also being used to determine if you're a good "fit" for a job.Did the last part of that sentence scare you? It should have! There is a lot of troubling stuff here, and we discuss that and more in this episode. Now don't get us wrong, we are not anti-personality-assessment people - in fact, you'll learn by listening to the show that we took a very popular version of one of these tests, the Meyers Briggs Type Indicator, and we found it was spot on for both of us! When these tests are used in the right setting and for the proper purpose, they can be enormously helpful both in a business setting and for personal use. It's using them in the wrong setting, that's got our panties in a bunch. We think, in general, that these tests have no place in pre-employment screening - yet - and we give you the reasons why we feel that way in this My Job Here Is Done podcast episode. We also touch on the new types of video tests that watch your facial expressions and attempt to figure you out by the way you react to questions as opposed to just how you'd answer them.We hope you enjoy the episode - feel free to leave us comments on the website. Here is where we obtained some of our research into the field of Personality testing for the show:A good source of general researchThis is from NBC NewsAnd this from the New YorkerWikipedia on Myers BriggsHarvard Business Review has this take on the subjectHR Daily Advisor has this to sayThe Univerity Of Pennsylvania UPENN spent some quality time on thisYou can Google "free personality tests online" to get some idea of what you can do for no cost.Visit the official My Job Here Is Done website to learn more, contact us, and sign-up for very infrequent non-spammy tidbits by email if you'd like.
