Kevin and Tim took another fan recommendation and watched Baahubali Part 1. They talk special effects, story telling and how this movie stacks up against RRR.
Mystic mountains, colorful rainbows, majestic waterfalls. No, these aren't the contents of a box of Lucky Charms. These are part of the visionary landscape of the battle epic "Baahubali 2: The Conclusion." From director S.S. Rajamouli, who also directed "RRR", comes the sequel to "Baahubali: The Beginning." These films revolve around Baahubali, a legendary royal warrior who is much loved by the people of the land of Mahishmati. He finds himself in battles between would-be-conquerors and even with his own family which leads to epic battle scenes. Well, based on the overwhelming International response to our RRR review, the latest episode of YKY is one that was suggested to us by some of our supporters. Sean picked the 2015 film, Baahubali: The Beginning. Directed by the same director of RRR, S.S. Rajamouli and starring Prabhas, Rana Daggubati and Tamannah Bhatia. Does it stack up to RRR? Does Drew continue his Indian history classroom? Does Ralph question the speeding up of dance numbers. Does YKY become a Bollywood, Tollywood movie review show to continue increasing our viewership? Good questions. Watch and learn.
In this episode we head east for our cinematic treat. Do you like action, adventure, daring rescues, death-defying stunts and all for love? You just might dig yourself some Baahubali: The Beginning from the master director S.S. Rajamouli. You might know him from directing the international phenomenon R.R.R. that billions outside of India have even heard of. This movie is epic and barely slows down at all throughout its length. Oh hey, it's just us, doing another round of Ask Us Anything on Breakfast All Day. Christy and Alonso answer more of your questions, ranging from our favorite movies to recommend to people, to the best Harrison Ford role, to how we got started as film critics. We also review the second half of SS Rajamouli's two-part Telugu extravaganza, 2017's “Baahubali: The Conclusion,” which we ended up liked better than “Baahubali: The Beginning.” We'll be back next week with reviews of new movies, including “Nope” and “Bullet Train.” Thanks for sharing part of your summer with us!
We loved “RRR” so much and got so many great suggestions of other Telugu films to watch that we're now digging into “Baahubali: The Beginning” on Breakfast All Day. Alonso and Christy were blown away by SS Rajamouli's 2015 movie, and we'll have a review of part two, “Baahubali: The Conclusion,” next week. Also this week, we introduce a new segment we're so excited about: Was It Great, or Were You 8? We'll look back at movies we loved when we were 8 years old to see whether they truly were great, or we're just remembering them fondly through the rosy lens of nostalgia. First off: Alonso has chosen “The Bad News Bears” from 1976. When you're done listening, you can vote on our YouTube poll. Let us know what you think, and thanks for spending part of your summer with us!
The trio of the Ourtwocents Podcast dives back into the world of Tollywood with a review of Baahubali: The Beginning. The group compares the film to Rajamouli's latest outing (RRR), discusses how the director handles the mythical epic genre and touch on the films decision to forgo deep themes in favor of spectacle.
Long live Deep Cut! The DC Trio welcomes back distinguished guest and friend Thanmye Lagudu to launch a discussion on the legendary Masala blockbuster director S. S. Rajamouli (of this year's international hit, RRR). There's no better a popular pick than the renowned historical fantasy duology, Baahubali: The Beginning and Baahubali: The Conclusion, based on the Sanskrit epic poem Mahabharata. In their epic conversation, Thanmye shares his deep connection to the movies of Rajamouli, Wilson breaks down what makes the action so spectacular, Ben notes the benefits of non-photorealistic CGI, and Eli explains how Rajamouli writes truly smart characters. Ultimately, Thanmye hopes for a new path forward in cinephilia that fully respects the depth and goals of Indian popular cinema. Fight alongside your best friends in our Discord server. We're excited to drop this one — it's our Baahubali Mega-Episode! Last week we challenged you to watch the films on Netflix, and maybe you did. If you didn't, you should listen to this until you realize your mistake. Then you can pause and come back later! We do a good old fashioned plot breakdown and discuss our favorite parts — which are almost every single plot beat. Let's just get to it, then! Synthwave by Ryan Andersen is licensed under a Attribution-NonCommercial License. As we previously, our new email address is podcast@thecriticalbreakdown.com. Send us your thoughts! If you want to follow our social media presence, check us out on twitter @breakdowncast and instagram @thecriticalbreakdown. You can follow Scott on Instagram and Twitter at @breakdown_scott. You can follow Max on Instagram @maxasaurus and on Twitter @maxriverafilm.
So this is gonna sound weird, but we want you guys to watch two movies with us, and then send us your thoughts! We are pushing back our new episode one week to hear from YOU! That's right, all you have to do is watch Baahubali: The Beginning and Baahubali 2: The Conclusion on Netflix, and then send us your thoughts at podcast@TheCriticalBreakdown.com. Both films are streaming in multiple languages, including Hindi, Telagu, and Tamil! The Baahubali series is hard to explain, but it is one of the most successful Indian films in India, as well as in the US. The film is a fantasy adventure film, with epic war, romantic musical numbers, and enough fun to make us fall in love. It's bombastic, it's ridiculous, and it's sincere. Also, the first film ends with an epic cliffhanger, that possibly surpasses other cinematic cliffhangers I have seen. We had chills! Scott screamed! The Baahubali series needs to be experienced — we haven't put in enough love for foreign cinema here, and so we're taking the extra time to let our brains fully digest what they experienced. Once again, we encourage ALL of our listeners to check out at least one of these films and then send us your thoughts in email. You can send us a text email, a video email, or an audio email. You can also tweet at us, leave us a facebook message, or send us snail mail. Basically, if you record your voice, we'll shove you in our episode, but if you send us words, we'll read them out loud. Consider yourselves recipients of our first challenge! There WILL be a quiz at the end of this lesson.
On this week’s episode, Summer Blockbuster!?! meets Bollywood as we take on 2015’s Indian epic BAAHUBALI: THE BEGINNING, a film that is 90% CGI and 100% batshit insane. Mytologiska magnituder!
