GRAMMY® Balloted Club Nouveau, Timex Social ClubGrammy Award Balloted singer and music label executive, Jay King, was elected CEO/President of the California Black Chamber of Commerce (CBCC) in June of 2019.GRAMMY® Award Balloted Jay King/Club Nouveau's music & samples have been featured in many TV & Film Soundtracks including the #1 Hit Movie "US" by Director Jordan Peele! This week, I look at how a brand can stay relevant decade after decade. As a veteran mogul Jay King brings as much humility to the field as he does what has been called his genius. With three decades of continuous achievements in music, management, film/TV/radio, consulting and publishing; King has made an indelible impression. He claims Northern California in general as his hometown due to a nomadic youth spent between many of the Bay Area's cities; as well as Alaska for birthing his career. There was a deep musical undercurrent added to his early years by a clan which boasted a number of ministers, extending from his great-grandfather through a number of cousins, who all played instruments as well. His great uncle, Saunders King, a respected jazz/blues guitarist, offered the West Coast the first family hit in the 1940's—‘The S.K. Blues'—adding to the musical backdrop of King's childhood. In 1986, King starting the independent record label JAY Records to release the Timex Social Club hit ‘Rumors' and ushered in the biggest selling single of 1986 (3.5 million copies) and becoming the #1 R&B single on the Billboard Charts. With a Top 10 single on the Billboard Pop charts for over 56 weeks, King watched his life change as his music became an unprecedented hit. What he'd produced was history-making, as nobody had before taken an R&B song from an indie label to such heights. Although having independently produced, pressed and marketed his own music King was without the money to compete at radio plays and had to be creative with promoting. “There were challenges. You couldn't reach out to stores, and social media didn't exist then so you couldn't let people know with a click of a button that you had something out. You had to get out and hustle. People were making fun of me and laughing because I was out hustling records.” Bypassing traditional methods, King utilized Macola Records because of its position as an indie manufacturer with no association to a major label.Such moves from a 24 year old entrepreneur made the year 1986 even more memorable, as he quickly followed up with a label/production deal with Warner Brother Records and his King Jay Records label, subsequently releasing the first Club Nouveau single ‘Jealousy' and the album, ‘Life, Love & Pain'. After ‘Jealousy' went to #8 on the Billboard R&B charts in September of 1986, followed by ‘Situation #9' (#4 Billboard R&B charts), 1987 came in with an even bigger bang when ‘Lean On Me' was released in February and became #1 Billboard Pop/#2 Billboard R&B platinum single, winning a Grammy for R&B Song of The Year.Club Nouveau's music is in heavy demand commercially in movies and is sampled in many of today's artists hit makers like Ashanti, Chris Brown and many more. The group is STILL on the scene, performing hundreds of LIVE concert a year & recording NEW music!© 2025 All Rights Reserved© 2025 Building Abundant Success!!Join Me on ~ iHeart Media @ https://tinyurl.com/iHeartBASSpot Me on Spotify: https://tinyurl.com/yxuy23baAmazon Music ~ https://tinyurl.com/AmzBASAudacy: https://tinyurl.com/BASAud

The light and dark, the fast and slow, the loud and quiet - one cannot exist without the other and opposing qualities, in balance, each bring out the best in life - and often also in music. Berlin-based artist Mareena embodies this interplay perfectly. May it be through her well-built Techno DJ Sets in Clubs all over the world or as Podcast host and Label Owner of the always calming and ever-giving UNRUSH series - Mareena understood the integration of this dualism like few other artists nowadays. A catch-up between Delayed and her was long overdue and our discussion expanded from the 90'ies, over timeless music to the challenges of the life of an artist these days. This is what Mareena said about the mix: 'I had a lot of ideas for a calm mix. I ended up with a dub techno mix. A genre that is sticking with me since my beginnings. I can't get tired of chords and delays. Since your platform is called “Delayed” it seemed just appropriate ;) The mix is recorded between 115 – 120 BPM. I wanted to create something more chill. A mix you listen to while cooking, having friends over or wandering around the streets. My idea was a deeper psychedelic vibe rather than the usual dance floor music.' https://soundcloud.com/mareenaofficial https://soundcloud.com/unrushme https://www.instagram.com/mareena_bln/ https://unrush.bandcamp.com www.itsdelayed.com www.instagram.com/_itsdelayed_ www.facebook.com/itsdelayed

Today we chat with the wonderful Owner of OMM LABEL Ophelie Mouton. OMM stands for Oh My Mama or Oh, my mama or Oh my…mama! You can read it many ways, but at its core, 'Omm' means “Mother” in Arabic. OMM Label is not your average breastfeeding brand and is like nothing else on the market. This is quality ethical clothing for damn cool mums. We love that their messaging is relatable, and that their mothers are empowered! Motherhood is bloody hard enough, so OMM makes getting dressed the easy part. It's all about feeling comfortable to breastfeed wherever, whenever you need and to feel amazing within yourself. OMM's modern basics are made by mothers for mothers, and designed to be your sidekicks through your breastfeeding journey – and beyond! OMM donates $1 of every purchase to amazing charities that you get to choose from like The National Breast Cancer Foundation/Women's Community Shelters and more!We asked Ophi the following questions:Can you kick us off with a funny Motherhood story for us?So, how was your own 4th trimester with two kids correct? For example, did you pump/What was your feeding journey all about? What propelled you to create OMM The Label- we have mentioned a bit in our intro but we would love to delve deeper with you on this?Your waffle lounge set in green is seriously lush and if I had breastfed for longer than I did due to unforeseen circumstances, I would have lived in that- do you have a fav product that you are most proud of out of everything you have ever created? What does the idea of ‘success' mean to you and a mum and business ownerWe love your quote- "I believe that motherhood and the achievement of breastfeeding is something to celebrate and be proud of - I hate the idea of mums feeling ashamed or uncomfortable about breastfeeding - but unfortunately it's a reality for some of us and that NEEDS TO CHANGE!" - can you talk about this? What have been the biggest challenges in the juggle that is Motherhood and running your business? Then, on the flip side, what have been the most beautiful aspects? What do you do for you in all of the chaos? What was the last book you read or podcast that you listened to? What would the you before Motherhood say to the you, in all that you are, now?Three words that sum up where you are at in your Motherhood journey now? This episode was brought to you by our Sponsor OMM LABEL who create cool and comfy breastfeeding uniforms to empower mums to feed their babies anytime and anywhere with confidence. Episode 025 Dj, Producer and label owner Rennie foster tells us how he got into the electronic music scene and working with well established producers. He explains about his life in Japan and how he broke into the dj scene there. Rennie Foster has been a well-respected figure in the Canadian music and art community for over two decades. He influenced many as an early pioneer of the Hip-Hop / B-Boy movement, and later the House Music and Techno / Rave scene, participating in the first events in Western Canada during the birth of these now common urban subcultures. He is also very well known within the niche of graffiti art for his early work, having been archived in several published books. Rennie relocated to Tokyo Japan in 2004 and became an important part of the Japanese club scene, playing all over Japan in venues such as Womb, ageHa, and Yellow, maintaining DJ residencies in Tokyo and Kyoto at the Metro club and at the Nagisa Music Festival in Tokyo and Osaka. Can I be honest? Growth is not always comfortable. In fact, it's usually not. When I started out as a coach for artists, musicians and actors, I had a lot to learn.Yes, I had already been in the arts and entertainment industry for 25 years; however, coaching is its own special skill. It took time to develop my unique process in helping artists authentically attract fans, media, and industry so that they can make a greater impact and income. But as I continue to build my business into what I've dreamt it could be, I've learned it's during my biggest challenges that I grow the most. I mean, I had a full-on growth spurt when I got clear on the personality trait of my favourite clients.Multipotentiality!I am a multi-passionate artist so it makes sense that I have a special bond with other multi-passionate artists. I love hearing that a singer-songwriter also paints and makes jewelry or an actor also writes and wants to produce their own projects.I love that I can celebrate my own multiple talents in my coaching when I can draw on my photography, makeup artistry, and fashion background one day and my publicity, journalism, and marketing experience the next.I tell you this story to get you thinking, what challenges are helping you grow?Every artist is different, but my most successful clients have the following things in common:• They are open to explore, share & overcome the fear, self-doubt & limiting beliefs that keep them in their comfort zone• They are highly motivated and willing to do whatever it takes to achieve their dreams• They know that there is no overnight success, slow and consistent progress is what prepares you for opportunities. If you can relate, but feel that you are missing the strategy on how to cultivate an authentic personal brand and attract an engaged audience of fans, media, and industry.I have great news for you. You can get started on your journey right now. I have given myself the challenge to give away 30 free introductory coaching sessions in 30 days. Book your session at dianefoy.com/booking and let's explore your goals. You can do this!My guest today is Mara Girone, a hand embroidery artist, writer, podcast host, and proud owner of the fashion label Mara Girone Simple Sophistication. It is a fashion label of ‘powerful words you can wear', specializing in sustainable, hand-embroidered, and hand-painted fashion. At the age of 8, Mara fell in love with hand-embroidery and regularly returned to this artform throughout her life. She could get lost in it for hours and although at the time she recognize it as such, she had discovered a powerful and effective form of meditation. From a young age, Mara never had just one answer to the ‘what do you want to be when you grow up' question. She would say “I would like to be a writer and artist, traveling the world and meeting new and interesting people.” She was often met with comments like ‘she doesn't know, she wants to be everything and nothing". But the real answer was that she was a multi-passionate artist. Today she can say that she has fulfilled and is living her dream. She has owned a publishing house, writes articles, and is working on a book. She is an artist creating for her own fashion brand and having exhibitions locally and internationally. Mara is also a podcast host for which she has the privilege to meet interesting and inspiring people every day. And by the way, she has lived in several countries and continents!I know that you will enjoy listening to our conversation. For links and a transcript visit dianefoy.com/079

Former drug Kingpin Peanut sat down and discussed the inner workings of the music industry, and how it works as well as how he maneuvered in the drug game. Fed's alleged that his record label was a front for a multi million dollar heroine drug empire, that allowed him all of the trimmings of an illegal American dream. Peanut explains how he had 5 wives, one of them being female rap superstar Charlie Baltimore (The ex girlfriend of the late great Biggie Smalls). In addition to that, he drops some explosive details on his former artist Kash Doll. What he reveals is sure to be found as nothing less than sexual manipulation and exploitation of a minor.
