"Dr. I.Q." (1939-1950s): The Mental Banker and Audience Engagement Concept: "Dr. I.Q." was a radio quiz show that aired from 1939 to the early 1950s. The show's host, Dr. I.Q., was billed as the "Mental Banker" and would move around the audience with a microphone, asking questions. Audience members who answered correctly would win silver dollars, adding an element of surprise and engagement. Popularity: The show's live, interactive format made it extremely popular. It was one of the few shows where the audience played such a direct role, which helped to maintain a high level of engagement. Additionally, the show's host, Dr. I.Q., was a charismatic and engaging personality who helped to create a fun and exciting atmosphere. Impact: "Dr. I.Q." was a groundbreaking show that helped to popularize the quiz show format. The show's success also helped to pave the way for other audience participation shows, such as "Truth or Consequences" and "What's My Line?". Legacy: "Dr. I.Q." is still remembered today as one of the most popular and influential radio quiz shows of all time. The show's unique format and engaging host helped to make it a favorite among audiences of all ages. Additional Details: The show was broadcast live from New York City. Audience members were selected at random from the studio audience. The questions asked on the show were typically trivia questions about a variety of topics. The show's theme song was "The Dr. I.Q. March." "Dr. I.Q." was one of the first radio shows to use a live audience. The show was sponsored by the Gruen Watch Company. "Dr. I.Q." was hosted by several different people over the years, including Garry Moore and Bill Cullen. The show was revived in the 1950s and 1960s, but it never achieved the same level of popularity as the original run. --- Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/dwight-allen0/support

Tom Bergeron on Game Changers With Vicki Abelson What a blast to sit down again with the just honored inaugural recipient of The Sam Rubin Award from The Critics Choice Association and Emmy-Winner, Tom Bergeron. The humble humanitarian was as funny and feisty as ever regaling us with one show biz gold story after another and commanding us to Google what he deemed unworthy of repeating (why he left the “dancing show”). He actually scooped it on this very show almost two years ago to the day. We started with Tom's current FLiRT with COVID, other than some residual fatigue, in under two weeks, thankfully, it's in the rear-view. His daily routine, well, most of it anyway, and how structure affords him freedom. We talked his and Lois's favorite and current binges, Midsomer Murders and The Veil, for two, and favorite people. Carl Reiner, how they met, and how their friendship developed, likewise, Dick Van Dyke, and William Shatner… or Bill, as he calls him, with whom he has a show optioned - oh please let it get made so we get to be a fly on their snarky friendship wall! He told a great story about Mel Brooks and Bill Cullen. We talked his early years - high school - as a DJ - interviewing Larry Fine and Moe Howard and surprising and delighting his classmates. His crush on “my nun,” and his surprise many years later. Getting a morning show, and then, a weekly children's TV show, which ultimately led to…Hollywood Squares - fabulous stories about Whoopi, Simon, Gilbert! Sad sweetness about his America's Funniest Home Videos compadre, Bob Saget, and losing John Ritter. Tom mostly slid over “the dancing show” this go-‘round, other than his extreme gratitude and readiness after 15 years to be done with it. He said he's done with hosting - but admits, you never know if the exact right thing were to come along… but, he's enjoying retirement. For now. He's writing, a novel… about 500 words a day, and he likes his characters… who knows what'll come. I'm putting my money on that Shatner/Bergeron bromantic comedy! Come on boys, with the state of the world, we could sure use the laughs. I adore this man, touched to the core that he remembered my Samantha when talking about his. They're both getting married. Mazel Tovs all around! Here's to friends who show up every two years and always bring their A game. I'll be smiling for days. Global Product Management Talk is pleased to bring you episode 069 of... The Everyday Innovator with host Chad McAllister, PhD. The podcast is all about helping people involved in innovation and managing products become more successful, grow their careers, and STANDOUT from their peers. About the Episode: If you want your own BB-8 droid, you can buy one from Sphero, a company in Boulder, CO. BB-8 is the adorable droid in Star Wars, The Force Awakens. Sphero fuses robotic and digital technology into an immersive entertainment experience. They make other droids besides BB-8. The original product is named after the company – Sphero. It is basically a white sphere a little lager than a pool cue ball that you control with your smartphone to roll around the room and play games with. I bought one after seeing it in a Discovery store. In 2014 the company did something really smart – they started creating education curriculum that teaches kids how to code using a Sphero device. What started as a meetup for kids to learn about robtoics and coding is now an expanding library of free lessons for teachers and students. And, in the process of learning how to code, the lessons also teach about music, engineering, math, science, art, writing, and more. They have found a way to bring learning and playing together. This educational program is called SPRK (spark). The product manager for SPRK is Bill Cullen and I had the pleasure of talking with him about the SPRK program. In this interview, you will hear the benefits of incorporating an education market into your product plans, including… expanding the overall market, creating passionate customers, increasing speed of innovation through community involvement, andadding community-generated products.

#70. Bill Cullen, accomplished offshore sailor and crewmember aboard Serenity in this year's Caribbean 1500, guest-hosts the podcast to discuss his favorite gadgets for offshore sailing and down-island cruising. These are far from your 'mission critical' items that Andy is constantly harping on, but they're fun, clever ideas for making the best of your time at sea. Bill has sailed in most parts of the world, and has a website called thebookofsail.com, where you can find examples to most of the gadgets he talks about today. This episode was recorded LIVE at the Caribbean 1500 seminar program in Portsmouth, VA. Check out Bill at thebookofsail.com/

Our very own Glenn Fleishman’s was on “Jeopardy!” We debriefed him about his adventures immediately on his return. In this episode, Jason and Glenn are also joined by Andy Ihnatko and Steve Lutz, and we talk about game shows and their modern reality-competition show equivalents, as well as harken back to the heyday of the panel show, where drunk celebrities engaged in witty repartee. It’s an episode so comfy you’ll feel like you were back in the womb at Bill Cullen’s house. Host Jason Snell with Andy Ihnatko, Glenn Fleishman and Steve Lutz.

On this edition of Galaxy Moonbeam Night Site, Smitty remembers the great TV game show "To Tell The Truth". Both hosts of the game show, Bud Collyer and Gary Moore are recalled, as well as long-time panelists Kitty Carlisle, Peggy Cass, Bill Cullen, Orson Bean, and Polly Bergen. Ian recalls the Golden Age of Television and such shows as "Patterns", "Requiem for a Heavyweight", and "No Time For Sergeants", and their varied stars, Everett Sloan, Jack Palance, and Andy Griffith. All three of these TV shows were later made into motion pictures. Mike remembers a Muntz 4-track tape deck he had in his car years ago, as well as other Muntz tape decks such as the blue light tape player. Also remembered are Earl "Madman" Muntz's stereo stores and his unique sales techniques. Plus an interesting Retro-commercial from Disneyland in late 1963. The Galaxy guys draw parallels from this commercial to the then recent assassination of president John F. Kennedy.

This week, Sue Lawley's castaway is the Irish businessman and writer Bill Cullen. He was one of 14 children born to William Cullen and Mary Darcy. His childhood, in the tenement slums of inner-city Dublin was one of extreme poverty. Born during the war, the family lived in a one-room dilapidated tenement. Learning the secrets of street trading from his mother and grandmother, Bill started selling from market stalls from the age of five. He sold everything from fruit to evening papers home-fashioned Judy Garland dolls to paper flowers. He eventually started working in a car dealership and went on to own Renault Ireland. He is now a millionaire many times over. He puts his success down to sheer hard work and the support and determination of a close knit family. He has written about his life and says his autobiography, It's A Long Way From Penny Apples, is a tribute to the strong women of Ireland - like his own mother - who held families together through thick and thin. Royalties from the book have been given to the charity of which he is a director, The Irish Youth Foundation. In the past 17 years he has raised £20 million through his charitable work. He is now working on his second book Streetwise, which will impart the business knowledge he has gained over the years.[Taken from the original programme material for this archive edition of Desert Island Discs]Favourite track: New York, New York by Frank Sinatra Book: Glimpses by Brendan Kennelly Luxury: An accordion
