As the show becomes fully entrenched in the lineup at ESPN, it is heading towards the launching pad that is about to take it to new heights. Before we get there though, the gang continues to struggle with the show just not feeling right. As a last gasp effort to get Dan back in his comfort zone, Mike Ryan makes a call to ESPN executives to take the show off television for two weeks and move back to the smaller studio at The Clevelander. As Mike Ryan says himself, this may have been the move that saved the show. After the break, the show comes out flying what the gang considers to be the golden era of content. Around the time of the studio change, the show is moved into the mid-day slot on ESPN Radio, making it arguably the biggest thing in sports radio at the time. You'll hear from Dan, Stu, Mike, Chris Cote, Old Money Charlie and even former ESPN President, John Skipper, about the show making the transition from Fusion to ESPNU and afternoons to mid days. Then, in line with the golden era of content, get ready for what is far and away the best supercut so far. Here are just some of the highlights: Bob Einstein on Rob Gronkowski, Alan Thicke on Tomas Hertl, Norm Macdonald watching the Draft, We Are The Lobos, Corn Elder and perhaps the most egregious Stugotz mistake in show history. If only The Smothers Brothers Comedy Hour was still around to help us through another turbulent US Presidential election. Pat Paulsen -- where are you when we need you?A key writer/producer back on that 1967-69 comedy variety show was a Canadian -- Allan Byle. Before the Smothers, he worked for Fred Rogers as well as CBC songbird Juliette. Tommy Smothers, who has a knack for spotting talent, insisted that Blye, then in his twenties, be part of the Comedy Hour writing staff. The series became a mid-season, Sunday night hit. While tame by today's standards, controversial jokes, edgy guest stars and political pressure led to CBS firing the Smothers early in 1969.Blye carried on as a writer/producer. He went on to bring out the best in David Steinberg, Sonny & Cher, Dick Van Dyke, John Byner and Super Dave himself, Bob Einstein. The Winnipeg-born Emmy winner passed away in October at 87. On this episode of brioux.tv: the podcast, I welcome his younger brother Garry who also worked on many of those landmark shows.Garry's showbusiness credits are worthy of their own salute. He started as a talent agent, representing a couple of pretty good clients -- Elvis Presley and Col. Tom Parker. Garry's stories range from that 1968 Elvis Comeback Special to later on working with the likes of Redd Foxx, Cher, John Candy and more. Join us for an hour-plus of amazing showbiz memories that will fly Blye.

Short Snorter by Charles Einstein, that's next on The Lost Sci-Fi Podcast. What does Willie Mays, Curb Your Enthusiasm, stuntman Super Dave Osborne and the 1991 movie Defending Your Life starring Albert Brooks, Meryl Streep and Rip Torn have to do with today's story? The answer coming up.Thanks for listening, sharing and commenting on The Lost Sci-Fi Podcast on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, YouTube or wherever you listen. Comments on our YouTube channel have exploded in the last few weeks. Mirzamay says “I am loving your channel! Thank you for the blast from the past and the great entertainment. Phenomenal quality podcast, one of the best!” Thank you @mirzamay! Thunderace4588 had this to say “How you narrate these stories makes the characters come to life for me. Thank you Scott Miller.” Thank you @thunderace4588! Commenting on The World That Couldn't be by Clifford D. Simak @chrisgale5634 says, “Simak was just brilliant. He is largely forgotten about these days, so it's great to honour his stories.” I agree chrisgale5634 and thanks for your comment. And harrygrimley4352 says “Narrator's voice is great. Makes me think of Casey Kasem.” Thanks harrygrimley4352 I hear that quite frequently and have heard it dating back to my days on the radio. As Casey Kasem was listened to by millions of adoring fans I accept your kind words as a huge compliment.Charles Einstein, the author of today's story was an author and sportswriter. He was born in Boston is 1926. He was a newspaperman, specifically a baseball writer and his 1979 book, “Willie's Time: Baseball's Golden Age,” telling of Mays's career and the events in American society when he starred for the Giants, was a finalist for the Pulitzer Prize. Einstein had two younger half-brothers, Bob and Albert. Bob Einstein was an actor, comedy writer and producer. He created and performed the character Super Dave Osborne and appeared on Curb Your Enthusiasm and Arrested Development. His brother and our authors half-brother was born Albert Lawrence Einstein, also known as Albert Brooks. The 1991 romantic comedy-fantasy film Defending Your Life, one of my favorite movies, was written, directed and starred Albert Brooks. There was a lot of talent in that family. Charles Einstein wrote several novels including, The Bloody Spur, on which the 1956 film While The City Sleeps, directed by Fritz Lang of Metropolis fame, was based. Charles wrote 5 short fiction stories in the late 1950s and early 60s. Look for his first short fiction story Tunnel 1971, written in 1957 in a future episode. Discover the third of Einstein's 5 stories on page 77 of If Worlds of Science Fiction in August 1958, Short Snorter by Charles Einstein…Next on The Lost Sci-Fi Podcast, we'll hear a story written by a teenage descendant of Simon Bolivar, What lasts forever? Does love? Does death?... Nothing lasts forever.... Not even forever Homecoming by Miguel Hidalgo

A salute to Super Dave: Actor and comedian Bob Einstein, aka Super Dave Osborne and Marty Funkhouser on Curb Your Enthusiasm, was one of our all-time favorite guests. He passed away while we were gone and we never got to pay proper tribute, so this episode is our salute to Super Dave! He called in whenever he felt like it and would jump into the conversation with whoever we had on, from Norm Macdonald, Bobby Goldsboro, a turkey calling champion, and others. He talks about his appearances on Curb and tells many jokes you'll want to remember.
In Episode 015 of The Curb Our Enthusiasm Podcast, Jeremy and Rey have a stop and chat, remembering Bob Einstein also known as Super Dave. Bob Einstein added a lot to the Curb Your Enthusiasm world and he is missed. We hope you enjoy this episode and thank you for listening!
See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
He was a comedian's comedian and managed to steal the scene in whatever program he appeared. From his role as Marty Funkhouser in Curb Your Enthusiasm to his legendary performance as Super Dave, Bob Einstein was a legend. Here's a clip of comedian Dave Coulier from a few years back.
