Sansa flees the scene of the crime with Ser Dontos. After a scary climb she's rowed to deliverance - which turns out to come with a familiar (although not totally friendly) face. Simon and Mackelly consider her future.Chapter Review:Sansa Stark races to the Godswood where she has hidden a change of clothes. When she takes her hair net off, she realizes a black amethyst is missing and gets a sinking feeling in her stomach that it's somehow related to King Joffrey's death. Dontos arrives and denies that the hair net had anything to do with Joff's death. He choked on pie.Dontos leads her out of the castle to a cliff where a secret ladder has been cut out of the stone that leads to the river below. When the pair make down safely, they find a man waiting to row them out to safety. When the little boat reaches a ship, a stunned Sansa discovers Petyr “Littlefinger” Baelish waiting for her. Dontos, who stayed behind to row himself back to the castle, asks for his reward of 10,000 gold dragons. Instead, he's killed by three crossbow bolts.Littlefinger explains to a highly-upset Sansa that Dontos did what he did at Littlefinger's command and did so because he was being handsomely paid. Once he'd drunk this payday, he'd sell Sansa again to Varys or Cersei. When Sansa asks why Littlefinger would want to hurt the Lannisters, who gave him so much, he responds that he had no motive. He likes to keep his foes confused. He says he loved Sansa's mother Catelyn and thinks in a different world Sansa might've been his daughter. He tells Sansa to forget about the Lannisters, Tyrion, and King's Landing. She's safe with him and sailing home.Characters/Places/Names/Events:Sansa Stark - Elder daughter of Ned and Catelyn Stark. Davos is imprisoned in the Dragonstone dungeon. He receives a visit from Melisandre, where he learns that she had no role in the disaster on the Blackwater, as well as learns that she believes Stannis is Azor Ahai reborn. Next he welcomes a new cellmate, in the form of Hand of the King Lord Alester Florent. Mackelly and Simon bake some cookies for the newbie on the block.Chapter Review:Davos Seaworth finds himself in the dungeon of Dragonstone. It's dark and dank but at least it's warm. His illness from his time on the little island in Blackwater Bay has gotten worse. However, just when Davos thinks he'll soon die, Maester Pylos nurses him back to health.Melisandre pays him a visit. The Red Woman tells Davos that there is a war that has raged on since the dawn of time. A war between R'hllor and The Great Other. She also divulges that Stannis Baratheon is the Chosen One of R'hllor. He is Azor Ahai reborn. She saw it in her flames. Davos asks why she didn't save them from the flames on the Blackwater, if she can see the future? She explains that Stannis' faith was weak, and he left her at home. If she'd been there the outcome of the battle would've been different. Three days later, Davos gets a new cellmate. It's Stannis' Hand of the King Alester Florent. He's here for the crime of trying to broker a peace deal with the Lannisters, without the knowledge of King Stannis. His plan was for Stannis to recant his claims of Lannister incest and bend the knee to Joffery Baratheon. In response, the Lannisters will name Stannis lord of Dragonstone and Storm's End. To seal the deal, Shireen Baratheon and Tommen Lannister will marry. Davos can see the flaw in this plan. Stannis would never agree to any of it.Characters/Places/Names/Events:Davos Seaworth - The Onion Knight. Former Smuggler, now close advisor to King Stannis Baratheon.Stannis Baratheon - Lord of Dragonstone, rightful King of the Seven Kingdoms.Melisandre - Red priestess of R'hllor. Davos survived. He's been clinging to a rock in Blackwater Bay for two weeks. A ship rescues him. Simon and Mackelly consider the wreckage.Chapter Review:Davos Seaworth, the Onion Knight, is marooned on a rock in the Blackwater Bay. He's eked out an existence for a couple of weeks, but his fresh water is gone, and he's delerious. He recalls the battle and the almost certain death of four of his sons, and wonders if he should just let the sea take him.A ship appears heading in his direction. He's not sure if he wants saving, but he prays to the mother and she appears to remind him that he took part in the burning of her effigy on Dragonstone. Davos is pretty sorry for all that he has done. But his ruminations give him a new determination to survive. He waves his hands and the ship sends a boat to rescue him.Davos recognizes the markings as Lyseni, so he expects that they fought for Stannis, but it is a heart-in-mouth moment admitting his loyalty. While lots of viewers obviously love the first season of Game of Thrones, it's the second season -- which first aired on HBO in 2012 -- many consider the beginning of the series' long-running and well-earned golden era. There's action all over the map: In the far-north with rumblings of 'A King Beyond the Wall,' in Winterfell and the Iron Islands, which stir with and fall victim to the spirit of raiding, across the Narrow Sea in Essos, where we discover a desert city called Qarth, and certainly at King's Landing, which is set to be invaded at any moment. There's a lot more going on, too, which is how Game of Thrones rolls. It's dense with characters and plot. Thus, we do the best we can to not only make sense of it all, but touch on the characters, moments, and arcs that stood out to us most, from the relationship between Arya and Tywin and the drama between Jaime and Brienne to the Battle of Blackwater Bay and the reignition of a fiery old religion. Davos sails into Blackwater Bay with Stannis' giant fleet. He has some misgivings, but initially the battle goes to plan. However, a series of barges full of wildfire sail into the fleet and all is lost. Davos is thrown overboard but is being drawn into the burning mess that is gathering on Tyrion's great chain. Simon and Mackelly pick through the flotsam.Chapter Review:Davos Seaworth stands on the deck of the Black Betha, in the second row of King Stannis Baratheon's fleet. The enormous fleet is made up of 10 rows of 20 ships, not including the ships of Salladhor Saan's Lysene fleet that will stay out in the Blackwater Bay as the rear guard.Ser Imry Florent, brother to Stannis's wife Selyse, has been named Lord High Captain of the fleet. He plans to use the fleet's superior numbers to overwhelm the much smaller royal fleet. Once they've been dispatched, the ships will both land troops on the northern bank of the Blackwater Rush and ferry Stannis and his army across from the southern bank. Ser Davos has reservations about the plan, most notably the decision to take all 200 ships into the river at once. When the two sides meet, the fighting is fierce. However, it's clear that the numbers of Stannis' fleet will carry the day for them. Everything changes when boats ladened with wildfire are drifted into the fleet. As they are rammed or catch fire, the explosions are immense. When the first boat explodes, Davos is thrown from his ship. As he treads water, he sees many other ships engulfed in green flames. Davos figures he'll let the river current take him out to the bay to meet up with Saan's fleet for rescue. But as he looks down-river, he sees that a thick boom chain has been raised across the mouth of the river, trapping them all. The current is taking him right for it and the burning husks that have been trapped against it.Characters/Places/Names/Events:Ser Davos Seaworth - The Onion Knight. Sansa meets with Ser Dontos who has nothing useful, the Hound who is particularly ugly toward her, and Cersei who warns Sansa that love is weakness and she should reserve it for her children, because she won't get much from her intended Joffrey. Simon and Mackelly feel for Sansa and her plight.Chapter Review:Sansa Stark rendezvous with Ser Dontos Hollard in the Red Keep's godswood. He is drunk and singularly unhelpful. He says that he has a friend who is returning to King's Landing. When this friend returns, they will take a ship to safety. However, Stannis' army is amassing all around King's Landing and is expected to have complete control of the Blackwater (Bay and Rush), so the plan doesn't seem very real.Sansa climbs to the top of the Red Keep to survey the besieging army. She begins to feel a little unwell and is saved from falling by the Hound. He is in a foul mood and says hateful things toward her. He seems anxious about the number of fires being lit for the forthcoming battle. That night Sansa dreams of what might have happened had the Hound not saved her (again) during the riot. When she wakes she finds that she has had her first period. Despite her attempts to hide the evidence, she's dragged before Cersei who is more conciliatory than usual. She warns Sansa that loving people is a weakness and that she better practice some new lies for when Stannis gets here. Cersei seems resigned to her fate.Characters/Places/Names/Events:Sansa Stark - Eldest daughter of Lord Eddard Stark and Catelyn Tully. Betrothed to Joffrey Baratheon. This is the third part of the multi-part podcast series and is how maritime archaeologists use Spanish, French, English, and American navigational charts to build the Maritime Cultural Landscape Theory of 18th-century Royal Naval Pensacola Bay. Listen and Learn how the Maritime Cultural Landscape Theory helps maritime archaeologists understand the historic battlefield in which HMS Mentor rests.

This multi-part podcast series is an attempt to locate a Royal Naval vessel, which was destroyed in Blackwater Bay, part of the Pensacola Bay System, Florida, during the spring of 1781. The study utilized maritime cultural landscape theory to construct an understanding of the setting and circumstances in which the ship sank. A history of the vessel is introduced to add context to the historical and environmental analysis defined by a critical examination of the Royal Navy’s 18th-century concept of the maritime cultural landscape of Pensacola Bay. The methodology behind the remote sensing survey for the ship and subsequent testing of previously known shipwrecks in this study’s project area is described, and a location for the wrecked vessel is presented. Edited audio from the livestream on July 27th 2019. Sean, Ash and Aziz discuss book and show Battle of the Blackwater (mostly book, Sean had just finished when we recorded). It's still the biggest battle in the books (6 POV chapters), and the first one HBO put on full display in Season 2 Episode 9. In the 2nd half, we chat Nashville/Con of Thrones 2019. We met Jerome Flynn (Bronn), Nikolaj Coster-Waldau (Jaime), the Wolf and the Crows and others while also hanging with fun people like Binge Mode and the elusive Alt Shift X. There were panels and cosplays galore, of course. A Song of Ice and Fire. Special guests Sarah Cullen, Jeremy Foster, Katy Roose, Phoebe Shum and Rewa Worley join Jeremy Downing and William Chen to discuss the HBO television series Game of Thrones. We start by focusing on whether people were satisfied or dissatisfied by the series finale and unpacking why. We then move into discussing specific character arcs, starting with a general discussion of Daenerys Targaryen and whether the creators succeeded with her arc or it was a fail. We then present our favourite character arcs, starting with Sansa Stark, then moving through to Podrick Payne, Arya Stark, Joffrey Baratheon, Samwell Tarly, Jon Stark, Brienne of Tarth, Jaime Lannister, Theon Greyjoy, with a quick dig at Euron Greyjoy, finishing with a discussion about Davos Seaworth. We end by quickly going through our biggest shock or win moments, starting with Jon killing Daenerys, the death of Lady Mormont, Jon parrying the white walker's sword attack at Hardhome, Bron shooting the fire arrow into the ship of wildfire in Blackwater Bay, Cersei destroying the Sept of Baelor, the battle between Oberyn Martell and The Mountain, the death of Catelyn Stark, the fight between Brienne and The Hound, and a special shout out to Arya killing all of the Freys.

The penultimate episode of each season is typically cataclysmic and, being the final season, S8E5 really took this trend and ran with it. While this will likely prove to be one of the most divisive and, to some, unforgivable episodes, it was nothing if not surprising. I don’t wanna get into it here, but the condensed nature of this season is having some serious repercussions. Dany is betrayed once again, the Northern army camps outside King’s Landing, Tyrion pleads for one last chance at peace, Arya and the Hound infiltrate the capital, the Lannister brother share a solemn farewell, Qyburn tries to protect his Queen, the Iron Fleet burns in Blackwater Bay, The Hound finally faces his fraternal nemesis (foe if you’re into alliteration), the Lannister army surrenders to the invaders, and the bells of King’s Landing ring desperately for salvation, before all hell breaks loose… Arya struggles to survive the calamity, the Northern army gives in to their bloodlust, a wounded Jaime comforts Cersei, while the city without honour crumbles, as Daenerys Targaryen, first of her name, Queen of the Andals, the Rhoynar, and the First Men, Khaleesi of the Great Grass Sea, Breaker of Chains and Mother of Dragons, burns them all.
