Är den lika viktig i den brittiska musikhistorien, måhända? Detta återstår att se, men under färden stöter man på allt ifrån James Bondkompositören John Barry till folksångerskan Lesley Duncan. Några andra som passerar revy är Angel Pavement, The Shots, Cliff Wade, The Cheavours, Danny Adams, Roll Movement, Johnny De Little, Steve Cassidy, Keith Kelly och Adam Faith. “I don't know where the desire to win comes from other than the desire to just feel like I've done my best and to know that when it's all said and done that I can't really have any regrets…The ability to go hard and to hurt yourself, yeah, I think some athletes have it better than others—and I would put myself, maybe I could at times, go fairly deep—and I don't know really where that comes from. I think it's one of those things where it was more of a desire just to know I've done my best, and if my best wasn't good enough, which in many times it wasn't, that's OK, because then I could walk away and be like, ‘Well, that's as good as I am.' And I think knowing that can give any athlete a little sense of peace or a sense of calm.” Keith Kelly and I go back 20 years to when we were both competing on the New England collegiate racing scene. He was an NCAA Division I national Cross Country champion at Providence College and I…well, I participated in some of the same events that he did from much further back in the field. We struck up a friendship a few years later when we both started working in the running industry and our paths have been criss-crossing ever since. In addition to his individual NCAA title, Keith was a 5x All American at Providence, he finished 24th in the senior men's race at the 2001 World Cross Country championships, and he won the Irish national cross country title in 2009. When his competitive running career got cut short due to injury, he got into cycling and rose through the ranks to race as a Cat 1 within a year of putting himself in the saddle. Now 43 years old, Keith works as a Global Run Marketing manager at New Balance. In this episode, Keith talked to me about athletic career, his extensive injury history, and when he knew running was something his body could no longer tolerate. We discussed his interest in cycling, how he channeled his fitness and competitiveness into his new sport, and what he misses most about running. We also talked about how the pandemic has affected the running industry, how super shoes are changing the sport, and a lot more. Joe speaks with Rate Reset's Keith Kelly about perseverance and what it takes to succeed as an entrepreneur.
“I was born with a big engine, a big heart and a really bad chassis," Keith Kelly, today's guest tells me in his familiar Irish. Keith was the NCAA National Cross Country Champion for Providence College in 2000. He has won dozens of races at the national and international level as he was the Irish National Cross Country Champion in 2009, which would have been a comeback year for Keith after years of battling injury and even depression. That championship could have led to competing for a spot on the Irish Olympic Team at the London Olympics but Keith's 14th or 15th stress fracture derailed his world class running career. Keith Kelly is one of my dearest and oldest friends. Regardless of his standing as an ALMOST World Class Runner and Olympian, I see him as a WORLD CLASS PERSON. In today's episode, we talk about his work with New Balance Running Shoe Company, his upbringing in a small town in Ireland with deaf parents and his discovery and love for running, along with some of the successes he had as a runner. When his running career ended, still needing something to do with his big aerobic engine, Keith turned to cycling and was soon competing--and beating--pro-level cyclists. Imagine being an experienced pro cyclist and this gangly, skinny, six-foot-three dude with toothpick legs sprints past. Of course, nothing is easy for Keith and he experienced setbacks cycling too. In fact, in one of his first races, he got caught in a crash and broke a collar bone and some ribs. But that didn't deter him. Keith is a study in adaptability and humility. He loves and appreciates his parents who provided he and his brother with opportunities to pursue their passions even though, as he says, "we didn't have a pot to piss in." Along with his love for training harder than anyone else and racing, the other enduring passion for Keith is music. We talk about his experience growing up with deaf parents and how he thought he was going to be a DJ spinning music at on BBC Radio 1. I met Keith 12 years ago while at Reebok and knew he was a unique and good person. This conversation dives into the intricacies of training at a high level, challenges and even depression, and redemption in the hands of new found love. Introducing a new podcast documentary, Finding Drum Corps, brought to you by the Global Bandroom. Back in 2015, Keith Kelly, an Irish band director was introduced to Drum Corps International, an activity and community that had evaded him until this point of his professional career. This introduction changed how he felt about music performance and education. Over the course of this 8 episode series, he will be finding out everything he can about this unique and inspiring activity and the stories that make up its community.
In this episode of Beneath the Grandstand, Keith Kelly, former NCAA and Irish XC Champion, sheds light on how COVID-19 has impacted the running industry, particularly shoe companies, shoe innovation, retail/specialty running stores and pro athlete contracts. Kelly has been working in the industry for more than a decade and currently holds the role of Brand Manager for Running Specialty at New Balance.
Jelly Kelly began life as a side project for Monogold frontman Keith Kelly, but quickly grew into its own beast. With a similar musical tendency (the presence of Monogold powerhouse drummer Jared Apuzzo - rototoms and all - probably helps with that) but a different angle that sees Kelly’s vocals opening up for a more full-throated delivery than that falsetto we’ve come to know and love over the years, Jelly Kelly is a young band full of experienced players (Nicolas Dube, Dom Bodo round out the quartet) having fun making weird sounds. For the first weekend of 2020, 30-30 Ministries celebrated with our partners in Lee County at the farm of Keith Kelly. This is a management hunt for does. Our three boys and one girl collected 12 deer, a new 30-30 Ministries deer hunting record. We also witnessed one young man shoot five deer, two with one shot! More ministry records smashed. Join us as we talk to our four youth campers and hear those exciting hunting stories. We also received some Biblical wisdom from 30-30 Ministries partner Terry Richardson, who is the current senior pastor at Centennial Baptist Church in Rutledge, Ga.
Welcome to the first ever Unbalanced podcast, featuring Keith Kelly and Kevin Adams. On this episode we bring in Team New Balance Boston coach, Olympian and all around legend Mark Coogan. We start off talking about his running roots during his Attleboro days before discussing the inception and evolution of the New Balance Boston Team, being part of the NB family and being members of the Boston community. We then go back and discuss Marks running career, representing the University of Maryland, being the first Mass kid to break the 4 minute mile, and his post collegiate breakthrough in Providence before moving out to Boulder for the buildup to the 1996 Atlanta Olympics. Mark tells us about his second place finish at the 1996 Olympic Marathon trials in Charlotte and his 96 Olympic experience representing the United States in Atlanta. We transition from Marks running career to his coaching and talk about his athletes running at Worlds in Doha and the fifth avenue mile. Mark talks more about coaching his athletes and some of the emotions he feels while they are racing. We wrap up the conversation with a discussion comparing the training methods between Marks competitive days and Marks coaching present and close out with an update on the indoor track construction at the New Balance campus.
Today, BJ plays host to the YTP when he interviews his lifelong friend, Michael Silva. Mike is the founder and President of FOUNDATIONperformance. He is an orthopedic, sports medicine physical therapist, exercise physiologist, and certified strength and conditioning specialist. Much of his career since 2000 has been in rehabilitating and preventing injuries in the distance running world. He has worked with runners associated with the USA National Olympic team, Irish National Olympic team, New Zealand National Olympic team, Australia National Olympic team, most of the colleges and universities in New England, Boston Athletic Association, and more. Some of his elite running clients include Molly Huddle, Amy Hastings-Craig, Johnny Gregorek, Roisin McGettigan, Tim Ritchie, Lauren Fleshman, Kim Smith, Amy Rudolph, Marc Carroll, Keith Kelly, Amy Mortimer, Mary Cullen, and Sara Jameison. Today is a deep dive into Mike's story. He shares the leap of faith; he and his wife, Carla, took to open FOUNDATIONperformance during a time in their life when taking a risk did not make sense. Although he had a full-time job as a physical therapist and making good money, he was unhappy and in a bit of disbelief. The career Michael aspired to left him unfulfilled within the first year. He focused his education to become a physical therapist, spent a ton of money to pursue this career and shortly after graduation found himself miserable. He knew he needed to make a change, and so he started looking at jobs outside of physical therapy. After an "all-nighter" with Carla, they decided to forget what made sense and pursue happiness on a new level. At first, FOUNDATIONperformance had Mike living the hustle yet wholly fulfilled. He was driving all over the state to see clients at their homes and doing what it took to give his dream the wings it needed to fly. Every entrepreneur can relate to this phase of building a business. Mike holds a high-level of expertise and experiential wisdom in the field of runner's health. He believes that staying healthy and on top of foundational balance in the body is the way to go. Michael is the creator of RUNstrong, a 55-minute circuit-style strength class aimed at creating better and less injured runners. He is a public speaker and educator for athletes and coaches across the country. He has stayed true to working with a population that inspires him to be better every day, and he created great success from not chasing the money over the years. We are grateful to bring such a wealth of knowledge to the YT community. Thank you for your support of the show. Kilkenny's only smokehouse, you'll find it hard to get a table in Paris Texas at the weekend. I chat with proprietor Pat Crotty and chef Keith Kelly to find out what makes it tick.
Jumpers for Goalposts was back in the Brack this week, so we packed up our gear and went along to chat with some of the people involved. Jumpers For Goalposts (J4G) is a new volunteer-run movement that encourages men of different ages, races, backgrounds, and abilities to come together for an old-fashioned game of football using ‘jumpers for goalposts’. The idea is the brainchild of Ballybrack mental health activist Keith Kelly. It followed the success of a poem and video he created for World Mental Health Week back in 2018. To learn more about #J4G, visit www.jumpersforgoalposts.ie
Claire Wood and Keith Kelly both wear a lot of hats. Claire is the SBU Manager at New Balance, overseeing the product creation for global running footwear, is a talented runner, and hilarious storyteller. Today's chat covers running shoe poetry, Elaine Kennedy's flannel pajamas, and Claire's dog Violet. All of it random, all of it entertaining.
We open with another bird scooter discussion before being joined on the phone by the global marketing manager for performance running at New Balance, Keith Kelly. Eighteen months is an eternity in the payer world. Previously on The Syneos Health Podcast (Episode 003: Payer Power), we discussed the payer's rise in influence in the pharmaceutical industry. Today, we're seeing the impact of strategies payers were starting to bring to the marketplace 18-months-to-two-years ago, particularly on the pharmacy benefit side. Keith Kelly, Managing Director, Global Access Solutions for Syneos Health Consulting, discusses key themes from the Express Scripts Drug Trend Report 2016, impact of payer controls on pharmacy benefit versus medical benefit products, how this plays out based on therapeutic area and ultimately, the challenges inherent in "bending the cost curve" for the average patient. The power of the payer in the biopharmaceutical industry has increased dramatically over the past several years, according to Keith Kelly, Managing Director and Head of the Pricing and Market Access Practice of inVentiv Health Consulting. Market access was once a dull topic. Today, price and if a drug will be covered is discussed on earnings calls and in the board room. What payers do can make or break the stock price of a company overnight. In this episode, Kelly and host Jeff Stewart discuss what factors have contributed to the payer's rise in influence; how payers are wielding this power; why drug price negotiation is similar to discount suit shopping; and the “prisoner's dilemma” of acquiring access for products entering the market at the same or similar time. The pair also explores the nirvana concept of “sustainable market access” – is it even possible? – and the value creation equation for a pharmaceutical company looking to achieve it for their products. Data from this episode originated from the following sources: Gross to net pricing from Credit Suisse; manufacturing cost analysis published in the Journal of Pharmaceutical Innovation and Nature Biotechnology; and Hepatitic C drug costs covered in Reuters.
