As soon as you think you've done enough research, you are only halfway there. You need to do more. You need to act as if you are currently running a business and find out where those holes are. If you could be where I was a year into my business when you first start, which I think entrepreneurs can be if they just know more. It's a great system. I would also ask to speak with other start-ups in similar industries. Not someone who would be a direct competitor because that would be strained. But if someone is willing to say well with me and CBD and someone is launching a different type of nutritional supplement. Approach someone like me who is obviously willing to share but learn where these holes are. I can listen to as much expert advice but, if I can't really see where other people have made mistakes it's very hard. That's why I think it's such a great question. It's very hard to then know what your potential mistakes are going to be. Our guest is a dietitian with a private practice in NYC for the last 15 years. her husband suffered from autoimmune peripheral neuropathy and after exhausting every diet under the sun with him and introduced him to every new doctor he asked for her to step down as his doctor and just be his wife. Around this time she started hearing about CBD and heard how it could be effective for pain management - since he's "cannabis friendly" which is a polite way of saying pothead, he was up for trying it. Long story short - he had incredible improvements on CBD so she started researching more. When she saw the connection with CBD and anxiety, she brought it into her practice for some of my emotional eaters and saw a big improvement with them as well. Ended up hitting the books and spent 6 months studying and researching cannabis and became a certified holistic cannabis practitioner. While she was studying, she really fell in love with CBD and the more she learned, the more she realized that CBD is the ultimate wellness vitamin. When she couldn't find a product that fit her criteria, she decided to create her own and that's how Daily Habit was born. In this episode we pay tribute to the life and passing of Charlotte Figi, who died this week at just 13 (October 18, 2006 - April, 8, 2020). The little girl with Dravet Syndrome, a rare form of epilepsy, who was the living poster child of the CBD revolution.   She had her first seizure at 3 months old, and by the time she was five, she was having upwards of 300 seizures a week. When everything else doctors had tried failed, her parent’s gave her a CBD rich low THC strain of Cannabis, then known as “Hippie’s Disappointment” because the THC was too low to produce psychoactive effects.   From 300 seizures a week, she went down to one seizure a week, and then to ONE SEIZURE A MONTH! The strain, created by the Stanley Brothers was renamed “Charlotte’s Web” in her honor and she became the spark that lit the candle, that became the flame, that grew an industry, which has saved or enhanced countless lives, and made the world a better place. My guest this week is Brooke Alpert, a certified holistic cannabis practitioner, a nationally recognized nutrition expert, and a best-selling author. She is the founder of B Nutritious, a private nutrition counseling and consulting practice in New York City.   Brooke's interest in cannabis, particularly in CBD came from trying to help her husband manage his debilitating autoimmune disease. Let’s have Brooke talk a little bit about how this book came to be. Brooke says she has been a Registered Dietitian for 10 and ½ years and has owned her own private practice that entire time. Her focus is in weight loss...she helps people lose weight but not with harmful dieting. After the birth of her 2nd daughter, she had the hardest time losing the excess weight and was feeling quite like a fraud in her business. She was feeling uncomfortable in her own skin and after a few months of trying to lose the weight the right way, she started to feel a little crazy. She was tempted to reach for the quick fix...and she truly understood the headspace that many of her clients are often in. She eventually had to sit down and have a real talk with herself about doing it the right way...the diet manifesto...the 10 rules to lose weight the right way for good. So what are these 10 rules? If it will have any ripple effect on your next meal, don’t eat it. We should be working through the day, optimizing how we are going to sleep well tonight.
