It's been a while, but it's time for another Riot Act Reviews. We're taking one big release from the music world and focusing all of our attention on it here, and Steve is delighted to be joined by Guardian and Metal Hammer journalist and full time Cult of Luna obsessive Matt Mills to pick through the bones of the latest Machine Head album; Of Kingdom and Crown. We're ten albums into what has been a rollercoaster of a career for the Oakland metal legends. Whilst albums like Burn My Eyes and The Blackening are well established classics at this point, it's been a mixed bag ever since, with folk punk, rap metal and radio rock all being dabbled with over the past fifteen years. There's been plenty of line up changes and controversial booking decisions made as well, and at this point none of us are really sure what to expect from a new Machine Head album; will we get the muddled, lengthy Catharsis, or is it really "The Blackening part II" return to form that Of Kingdom of Crown has been talked up as in the build up to the release of the record? We think we've got the answers... This podcast uses the following third-party services for analysis: Chartable - https://chartable.com/privacy

Broken Records - The Search for the Worst Album Ever

Welcome to another episode of Broken Records, our search for the very worst album that has ever dared to disgrace the good name of music. This week Steve and Remfry are joined by Tom Dare, host of the Hell Bent For Metal podcast, to talk about Supercharger, the fourth studio album by Oakland metal heroes Machine Head, released on the 2nd of October 2001. After the lukewarm reception to 1999's nu-metal leaning The Burning Red, Machine Head told the world that they were coming back swinging with some of the classic sounds of their beloved debut album Burn My Eyes. They certainly talked a good game, and having ditched the orange tracksuits, bleach blonde tipped spiky hair and “I'm mad I am!” facial expressions that characterised much of The Burning Red cycle, they looked the part too. In fact frontman Robb Flynn was more than confident that the band had “weathered the storm” and were going to be better than ever as the new Millennium arrived. Sadly, it didn't quite work out that way, as Supercharger was a big ol' flop of an album, the band themselves would point to a release around the time of the 9/11 terror attacks happening that saw the records lead single Crashing Around You dropped from radio and MTV for being a little too thematically close to the events of that day. Really though, that's not the problem with Supercharger is it lads. This is a painfully long and oddly neutered album from a band who had proved one of metal's most integral voices in the 90's. As we know, the band definitely got their shit back together fairly quickly, but, as we discuss, it was touch and go for a while there for Machine Head.  https://youtu.be/iQWu8IE-b6A (Machine Head - Crashing Around You [OFFICIAL VIDEO])

Se han producido 4 cambios de integrantes desde su creación y la formación actual de la banda consta de Robb Flynn (voz, guitarra), Phil Demmel (guitarra) y Dave McClain (batería). Machine Head es una de las bandas pioneras en la New Wave Of American Heavy Metal.

Welcome to Episode 46 of The Story of Rock and Roll Radio Show.  It went on air at midnight Friday morning 29 November 2019.  Time flew as it always does when fun was being had.  The big news of the week was my interview with Tommy Thayer, lead guitarist for KISS.  I was lucky enough to get the chance to interview him on Wednesday night and it was an absolute pleasure to talk to him.  I had planned to play the interview on this episode but given that there are only 2 hours I didn't want to lose 15 min of high grade music time with an interview so the interview is now a stand-alone podcast, check it out amongst the other podcasts.  Nothing like doing shows at two in the morning, I see I said that Lyzyrd Kyngs spelt their name the same way as Thin Lizzy do, when it was supposed to be the way Lynyrd Skynyrd do.  Obviously something to do with the zzzzzzzz's  The highlight of the show was definitely Billy Bragg, he doesn't get a lot of air play but man, that aggressive guitar just sets the studio alight, it sounds so raw and pissed-off.  Steve Jones, doing a cover of Bowie's Suffragette City, also got the Whatsapp lines buzzing as did the comment about Michael Jackson.  HIM made their first appearance on TSORR and UK blues hero Aaron Keylock was also a first timer.  Machine Head's Davidian sounded as powerful as ever and certainly reaffirmed my belief that Burn My Eyes is one of the finest Metal albums ever released.  All in all a very mixed bag with no obvious weak links in my opinion, see what you think.   Artists featured included:  Van Halen, Judas Priest, The Donna's, Joe Bonamassa, Lyzyrd Kyngs, Billy Idol, My Chemical Romance, Wolf Mother, Marilyn Manson, Tesla, Steve Jones, Y&T, Volbeat, Whiskey Myers, In Flames, HIM, Chickenfoot, Aaron Keylock, The Gaslight Anthem, Billy Bragg, Machine Head, Me & That Man, The Damned Things, The Wildhearts, Cold Chisel & Burn The Priest

In het tweede deel van deze 10de #callingfromtheunderground episode komen Matthias en Mondy van RDS220 langs.
