What are the 3 most haunting metal albums of all time? An obvious question for All Hallow's Eve...But Ben, Markisan, and Jeff present very different choices that are not at all obvious. What transpires is a fun and deep discussion of the visceral emotional connections that feed our metal hearts (reference to Accept intended!). We begin by talking about recent shows we've seen. Ben gushes about seeing Opeth live for the the first time! Markisan is knocked out by Amorphis! Jeff is blown away by Boris on their Amplifier Worship Anniversary Tour! And then we present our top 3 choices and honorable mentions. It's so much fun to share our deep passion for this incredible and emotional music! Metal is life, life is metal. So sit back and crack open a New Trail Double Zombie Double Pumpkin Ale!

On episode 116 of the Heavy Metal Philosophy podcast we ponder the secret behind Finland's incredible Goth Rock scene! We dive into the Finnish culture, history, and musical influences that have shaped the nation's unique Goth Rock sound. We'll discuss some of the most iconic Finnish bands that have left their mark on the extreme metal like Kalmah, Amorphis, and Children of Bodom and the goth rock genre like Lordi, H.I.M, Charon, To Die For, and The 69 Eyes. The question is why is Finland goth rock so strong?
This week on Toilet Radio we're comparing and contrasting the very beginning with the most recent output of a whole shit ton of bands. FEATURED: Linkin Park used to be Xero (sans Chester) / Dredg used to be nu metal as FUCK before going sensitive / Pantera was writing songs with the same lyrical themes back when they were glam / Before there was Type O Negative, before there was Carnivore, there was FALLOUT and it kinda sounded like DEVO / Bad Religion's ill-fated flirtation with prog rock / Semargl goes from forgettable blackened death metal to unforgettably bad electropop / Avatar used to be Gothenburgcore before going Ladiesandgentlemenwave / Sentenced went from killer slow death metal to sultry jammies / Amorphis and Paradise Lost discover keyboards and Matchbox 20, respectively / The Baroness and Mastodon demos show clear signs of where each of these bands would go / Ulver's long transition from black metal to synthpop / Carcass started as a grindcore band before inventing like four different genres of metal / Gojira's original demo recorded when the band were teens is extremely fucking rad. Folks, it's a jam-packed show. Music featured on this ‘sode: A lot This program is available on Spotify. Somewhere around the intersection of Behemoth, Amorphis, and Amon Amarth you'll find the bombastic mix of black and death metal that Unbowed have perfected over the course of their last two full lengths. And now with their third effort, Colour the Soul, out on the airwaves it's clear to hear these influences as well as a larger sense of self than ever before. Buke recently sat down with members of the band to discuss the new album and how it came to be, they also discussed flipping the bird to social media when it's used negatively, how the band formed and what got them into metal, DnD campaigns, and so much more. We now bring you this conversation in its entirety so grab your beverage of choice, a seat, and enjoy.9C LINKS: Website | Facebook | Twitter | Instagram
It's a double Camp Classic show, where two proggy Nordic tunes both get analysed from a queer perspective. First up, 'Silver Bride' by Finnish death/doom-turned-folk/prog crooners Amorphis gets a multi-angled view. hen 'Voices' by Norwegian prog black metallers Borknagar sees Tom and Matt take the same starting point, and then run off in literal opposite directions.Plus this week's visit to the Hate Crew Gaybar starts with a good natter about the Unto Others show both hosts went to in Leeds (and somehow both survived), before the jukebox gets two new additions. First is Pennyfold Haberdashery & Abattoir Deluxe by Uncle Woe, and second is Striving Toward Oblivion by Vorga.

Robert Cooper, Jesse Starcher and Mark Radulich present their Amorphis Halo 2022 Album Review! Amorphis - Halo (2022) is the fourteenth studio album by Amorphis, a Finnish heavy metal band founded by Jan Rechberger, Tomi Koivusaari, and Esa Holopainen in 1990. Initially, the band was a death metal act, but on later albums they evolved into playing other genres, including progressive metal, and folk metal. Amorphis has had a long and storied career in death metal that has seen the band become influences for so many and one that has produced many exceptional albums. Upcoming album Halo (Atomic Fire Records) is yet another feather in the hat of a band that gets better with age. Just ahead of the new album, Buke and bassist Olli-Pekka Laine uncover some backstory on Halo and some of the differences of this album to Queen of Time, they go down memory lane of Amorphis and how their sound has changed over the years and what's been instrumental in adding fans over the years, Olli's past with hardcore and some of his favorites from the genre, the importance of Tales from the Thousand Lakes, and they discuss an upcoming tour and memories of touring in the U.S. All this and so much more so dig in.9C LINKS: Website | Facebook | Twitter | Instagram
