Marathon show! Had an actual ton of fun talking with the Idle Heirs guys on what has ended up being the longest EoS show yet. We covered a lot of ground, including of course their album Life Is Violence, but also soooo much other stuff. Things like being able to live in these songs, scream teachers, music being a gift to work things out with, and of course, Chickenfoot. I also get crushed for a Tool "hot take." Where DOES the time time go?! Chickenfoot's incredible 2009 debut album turns sweet 16 this year!! This means in 2025 it too can now complain about driving 55 MPH and decide on Turnin' Left whenever it so chooses!! In this celebration of the supergroup's EPIC debut album, the Bo-Hosts reminisce on that era in Sammy's life & career, and provide an exclusive, behind-the-scenes look at the making of the official animated music video for "Get It Up"!  As some of you may already know, Bo-Host Darin conceived, produced and directed the video for the band alongside Sammy's lifelong friend and 2-time manager, the man everyone called "Carter". Darin shares making-of stories, a never before heard alternate-edit of "Get It Up", original production art, and reveals for the first time anywhere, concept artwork/tests that was supposed to be used for the sequel video, "Bigfoot", which unfortunately never came to pass due to the untimely passing of Carter. https://youtube.com/live/ugkL1xsjHSw When Joe Satriani was announced as part of Sammy Hagar's Best Of All Worlds Tour – seen by many as the closest thing to a Van Halen tribute – he embarked on a lengthy journey to perfect his tone for the role. Satriani admitted his usual rig wasn't up to the task, so he created a new setup to capture the essence of Eddie Van Halen's iconic sound. This included collaborating with 3rd Power to develop a tube amp inspired by Eddie's Marshall and modifying stock EVH Frankie guitars with speed knobs, Sustainer pickups, and other tweaks. As Satriani shared in Guitarist, these modifications were essential, as he initially struggled with the Frankenstein guitar, finding it nearly unplayable. “I tried seven Frankensteins and had to rely on the shop owner's advice on how they sounded. The one that works for me now didn't sound great right out of the box.” When Joe Satriani first picked up the Frankenstein guitar, he found it "lifeless" and struggled to keep it in tune. It took him two weeks of constant adjustments to make it playable. To solve these issues, Satriani reached out to Eddie Van Halen's former guitar techs for advice on optimizing the design. They shared their techniques, like filing down specific parts, adjusting screws, and making tweaks to improve tuning stability. Taking creative liberties, Satriani adapted the guitar to his needs, even replacing the pickup with a Sustainiac to handle a variety of songs from Van Halen, Chickenfoot, and his own catalog. "I didn't have time to switch guitars between songs, so I made each one work for multiple things," Satriani explained. Despite facing criticism from some fans for altering such an iconic instrument, Satriani embraced the challenge, even joking that Eddie might haunt him for it. His modifications paid off, and he's now confidently playing Eddie's parts on the Best Of All Worlds tour. To prepare, Satriani didn't just revamp his gear—he also studied how other guitarists interpreted Eddie Van Halen's legendary style. “Exclusively Van Halen" is the ultimate destination for all things Van Halen. S7E12 went out live on Rebel Rock Radio at 19h00 on 21 March 2024.  It was full throttle out of the gate with Dio and ‘Evil Eyes'.  We had some new music from Dan Patlansky, Judas Priest and Bruce Dickenson.  Most interesting is a new single from Vended.  I am really digging Vended a lot, sons of Slipknot, literally, Griffin Tayor and Simon Crahan doing their parents proud.   To remind you to get tickets for next year's Green Day, The Offspring, and Fokofpolisikar concert in Cape Town and JHB we again took a quick track from each of them.   This weeks Twisted Twins featured a song called 'Lost in Hollywood'.  The new Judas Priest is out so obviously we continued to rave about that.    This week's Immortals feature was incredible.  Mark Knopfler has assembled 60 musicians, mostly guitarists (he's got Ringo and his son Zak on drums and Sting on Bass), and it is a veritable who's who of guitar.  The track has been recorded by Mark Knopfler and Friends to raise funds for the Teenage Cancer Trust.  It's a new version of 'Going Home' (Theme from Local Hero) and, it includes contributions from among others Joe Bonamassa, Slash, Springsteen, Joe Satriani, Steve Lukather, Eric Clapton, Jeff Beck, John Mc Laughlin, Brian May, the list goes.  Incredible.       This week's Diabolical Challenge looked at four bands beginning with the letter ‘L'.  The idea is that we have 4 albums, and you can only pick one.  This week we had: Loverboy – Get LuckyLed Zeppelin – Over the Hills and Far AwayLynyrd Skynyrd – Second HelpingLive – Throwing Copper Artists Featured: Dio, Chickenfoot, Phil X & the Drills, ACDC, ZZ Top, Saxon, Motörhead, The Union Underground, Overkill, Black Tide, Alice Cooper, Doomsday Outlaw, Michael Schenker Group, Guns ‘n' Roses, Volbeat, Rainbow, System of a Down, Judas Priest, Bruce Dickinson, Bullet For My Valentine, Machine Head, Green Day, The Offspring, Fokofpolisiekar, Loverboy, Led Zeppelin, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Live, Metallica, Megadeth, Vended, Piet Botha & Jackhammer, Joe Bonamassa, Dan Patlansky, Pink Floyd. The Story of Rock and Roll. The guitar legend, the guitar god, the man behind some of the greatest guitar licks and albums in the history of rock, Joe Satriani joins us on the Rockcast. He has a new solo instrumental album out called 'The Elephants of Mars.' It's an album that sees Joe go a little darker as he and his band recorded the album in a solitude of sorts away from each other during the middle of the pandemic. Through his guitar, Joe has been able to accomplish what few writers and musicians are able to, play and write what he wants, how he wants while wearing his heart on his sleeve. He explores emotions through his guitar that somehow paint a picture in your mind. Of course, Joe has also played in the supergroup rock band Chickenfoot with Sammy Hagar, Micheal Anthony, and Chad Smith. Let's nerd out on guitars and music with Joe Satriani.

This week we check out new music from GILBERT O'SULLIVAN. We meet guitar virtuoso, JOE SATRIANI who's sold more than 10 million albums, has been nominated 15 times for Grammy awards and is well known for a member of Chickenfoot. Joe has just released his 19th studio album called The Elephants of Mars - it's amazing. Remember 80's British- American rock band KATRINA AND THE WAVES? They had that huge hit with 'Walking On Sunshine' and won the Eurovision song contest in 1997. Well, now Katrina is back. She's just turned 62 and released a brand new album called 'Hearts Loves and Babies' When you tune in to our chat you'll find Katrina is still very much the rock ‘n' roll girl from the 80s. Australia's favourite boy-band, HUMAN NATURE met at school in Sydney and are known for their incredible harmonies and lively stage performances. The guys have spent the last decade or so doing a residency in Las Vegas playing to packed houses. Joining me on the eve of their Australian tour now is PHIL BURTON who tells me all about those rumours that he's actually left the band. Join me?
