ONE OF THE real privileges of being a lifelong Oregonian of a certain, er, vintage, is the opportunity to have seen this state in its golden age — roughly, 1946 through 1980 — through a child's eyes. The basic style and culture of the Beaver State have changed a lot over the last 50 years. And, for the most part, it's changed for the better ... but not entirely. Sociologists would say this change was the transition from a “modernist” culture — proud, conformist, and optimistic about the future — to a “postmodernist” culture — self-critical, eclectic, and neutral or pessimistic about the future. This week, Dr. Marc Camille talks to us about his career path and approach to development as a college president. He sees himself as a chief storyteller and talks to us about ways he has built a strong culture of philanthropy while planning the Centennial Celebration of Albertus Magnus College! Dr. Marc M. Camille took office as the 14th President of Albertus Magnus College in June 2017. His career includes more than two decades of senior administrative experience at Catholic colleges. His leadership is inspired by Albertus Magnus' distinctive, values-based Dominican mission and the College's legacy of prioritizing education opportunity for those who might not otherwise have access. Prior to joining Albertus Magnus, Dr. Camille earned a national reputation for strategic enrollment management and marketing expertise and thought-leadership. Dr. Camille's presidency has seen Albertus Magnus launch an ambitious growth plan, deepen engagement within the greater New Haven area, and adopt a bold new strategic plan, Albertus 2025: Lighting the Way to a Second Century, setting the stage for the College's Centennial Celebration in 2025. Dr. Camille's leadership has prioritized deepened commitments to diversity, equity, and inclusion, and in 2023, Albertus achieved federal designation status as an Hispanic Serving Institution. A comprehensive fundraising campaign is underway to coincide with the College's 2025 Centennial. Dr. Camille earned his Bachelor's degree in English at Rollins College, his Master's degree at the University of Miami, and his Doctorate in Higher Education Management at the University of Pennsylvania. --- Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/devdebrief/support

On this special LIVE REMOTE BROADCAST of CASCADE OF HISTORY, Feliks Banel is joined by co-host Lee Corbin to mark the centennial of the around-the-world flight which concluded at what's now Sand Point/Magnuson Park in Seattle, just a short distance from the SPACE 101.1 FM studios. Corbin and Banel interview historians and aviation experts - including Knute Berger, historian Mike Lombardi of Boeing, Ted Huetter of the Museum of Flight and US Air Force Brigadier General Frank Goodell - and provide live coverage and color commentary on the centennial festivities organized by the Friends of Magnuson Park. Thank you to special guest Jay of Jay's Radio Hour for spinning 78rpm discs from 1924 to mark the occasion. Special thanks to field producer Shawn Murphy, and to Eric Zappa and Megan Hanna of SPACE 101.1 FM who ran the mixing board back at the station. NOTE: This live and remote local radio broadcast was not without technical glitches, and audio quality of some of the vintage 78rpm records suffered at times. It's all part of the magic of broadcasting LIVE from a grassy field (including when someone cut the power by tripping on the extension cord). Enjoy! This LIVE three-hour broadcast of CASCADE OF HISTORY was originally presented at 12:30 pm Pacific Daylight Time on Saturday, September 28, 2024 via SPACE 101.1 FM and streaming live via space101fm.org from the NOAA facility adjacent to Magnuson Park – formerly Sand Point Naval Air Station - on the shores of Lake Washington in Seattle.

Welcome everyone to our very own, first and only, 100th episode celebration!! We were having such a great time answering mailbag questions from our listeners, that we accidentally went long! And you should know by now, that with episodes sometimes leaning past two hours, we had to cut this session in two.But do not fret! The topics are abundant. The ADHD is fluid… We talk everything from Rob rewatching the X-Files, to hot cheetos, to living on another planet, to what our wrestling personas would be. We also make a mixtape of our life, talk nostalgic media (obviously), and who we would resurrect to have on the pod. Big shoutout to all of our listeners and folk who sent in questions! We got over 100 at the end of the day. Needless to say, we could not ask all of them, but we did log them all down for future use. In 1924, four airplanes took off from what's now Magnuson Park. Six months and more than 26,000 miles later, half the fleet made it back. The 1920s marked an era of aviation. After World War I, many powerful nations focused on the new technology and rushed to be the first to use it to circumnavigate the globe. In 1924, the U.S. military selected eight Army pilots and four specially made biplanes with open-air cockpits to make that first attempt. The pilots were called “the Magellans of the Sky” after the celebrated 16th-century explorer who tried the same feat on the sea. Their official launch site? The shores of Sand Point, or what's now Magnuson Park in Seattle. Crosscut's resident historian Knute Berger shone a light on these lesser-known Magellans in a recent episode of the Mossback's Northwest video series, but there's more left to highlight. In this episode of Mossback, Berger joins co-host Stephen Hegg to dig deeper into the reasons behind the attempt, the physical dangers and geopolitical challenges the pilots faced, the flight's global significance and its relationship to Boeing. They also discuss the Centennial Celebration that will mark the anniversary of the flight in 2024, exactly where the planes launched and landed a century ago. To launch our third season of “The Value in Giving” podcast, Vanguard Charitable invites you to join us in celebrating our 25th anniversary. Since our founding in 1997, we have granted over $15 billion to more than 113,000 organizations, making a significant impact on philanthropy. In this multi-episode mini-series, we delve into the stories of three nonprofits that were among Vanguard Charitable's first grantees: Martha's Vineyard Museum, Shelter House, and the San Francisco-Marin Food Bank. In this episode, discover the captivating story of Martha's Vineyard Museum. Join us as we explore what's changed since that first grant, how they continue to evolve, and the role different granting sources play in helping the museum advance its mission. Heather Seger, Executive Director of Martha's Vineyard Museum, shares how they transformed from a historical society collecting artifacts for 75 years to a leader in diversity and inclusion that showcases the stories of immigrants to the island. Learn about the critical role DAFs have played in supporting the museum's mission, ensuring long-term funding and a rise in recurring grants, while also discovering the significance of fostering communication and trust with donors by keeping them informed about the museum's progress and challenges. David Heighway is back once again to explore the intricacies of our country's constructed memory! It finds its way into nearly every American home; lingering memories of a sparsely populated frontier and the rugged pioneer. Many family histories have followed this line of thinking for generations. It even shows up at our own “Pioneer museum” of Conner Prairie. And yet, while not necessarily fabricated, we can use new information to see what the world would have truly looked like. As historians ourselves-just like David, that's the best we can hope to share! Show Notes: Guest: David Heighway- Hamilton County Historian at the Hamilton East Public Library. This episode is something a little bit different. If you had told us we would manage to stick with making a podcast through 100 episodes, I do not think any of us would have have believed you. The fact that this occurred in the midst of our trio weathering a global pandemic, having a collective 5 children, and achieving a bunch of other life and career milestones, its safe to say we would have written that possibility off entirely. However, against the odds we're celebrating the podcast hitting 100 episodes! So we're going to take an opportunity to thank all of our listeners and talk about some of our favorite experiences over the course of the life of the podcast. The good times, the bad, and all the games we played along the way. So If this is your first episode we'd recommend going back and listening to a pod or two of your favorite games we've covered, and if you're still with us then listen in as we recount some highlights from our first century and talk through how and why we started the podcast in the first place. We've always treated this podcast as a fun side-project and collective excuse to talk in depth about a hobby we love, but in hearing from our listeners over the course of the last few years we've also come to realize that we have a great audience who have been quick to let us know the positive impact our conversations have had on their day to day lives. Whether the podcast is a companion to your daily commute, a distraction to help you through a long work shift, or a companion while playing your favorite games we're happy you've chosen us. So thank you for listening, and for bearing with us as we continue to seek out new experiences to share with all of you. Take Care and Keep on Gaming!
In this Roots Radio episode, co-hosts Lisa Bonta Sumii and Richie Nuñez feature musician, singer, songwriter, and creator, Mara Hruby.About Mara Hruby: Mara Hruby doesn't just play music—she lives it. Since the onset of her career, the Oakland, CA native has poured her soul into her velvet confections, drawing inspiration from lessons that she's gleaned in her personal life and funneling them into rich, organic compositions. In just a few years, the singer-songwriter has become one of acoustic soul's fastest-rising up-and-comers, gaining a loyal following. With influences such as Julie London and Patsy Cline to The Moonglows, Curtis Mayfield and Brook Benton, singer/songwriter Mara Hruby personifies the sound and soul of an alternative jazz legend. Her debut EP released in 2010 conceptually titled From Her Eyes featured Ms. Hruby soulfully covering classics originally performed by men. Ranging from the likes of Jamiroquai, Bob Marley, and D'Angelo, she would re-interpret their work while adding her own feminine touch. Marking over 80K+ downloads the project propelled Ms. Hruby into her own lane, scoring thousands of loyal fans and supporters. A captivating performer, Ms. Hruby has notably sold out shows at Yoshi's Oakland and Blue Note Jazz Club in NYC. She has also performed in venues stretching from Philadelphia, DC, to Grammy Weekend (2012 & 2016) in Los Angeles, the 28th Annual Long Beach Jazz Festival (2015), The Clift Hotel's Centennial Celebration (2015) in San Francisco, and the 75th Annual Stern Grove Festival in San Francisco (2012).Ms. Hruby's most recent work, titled Archaic Rapture released in 2014 and received a nod of approval from Billboard. Billboard premiered her first single “Cry Me A River” by way of a live studio performance. Filled with her power, emotion, and depth shine vividly, the video gives the audience a small glimpse into the full EP. Ms. Hruby's Archaic Rapture may be briefly defined by her heartbreak, but it bleeds deeper down into the details. Her Sophomore EP overflows with pure emotion not to convey weakness, but to show strength in being honest with oneself. Within the first week of its release, Archaic Rapture reached the coveted #1 spot on the iTunes Jazz charts. You will come to understand, fairly quickly, that Ms. Hruby exudes pure creative power and sentimental care through her body of work.
