The Plant Free MD with Dr Anthony Chaffee: A Carnivore Podcast
Chad Myers, also known as "Combat Carnivore," is a Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu black belt, veteran, and advocate for the carnivore diet. After suffering from severe mental and physical health issues, including PTSD, panic attacks, and joint pain, Myers transitioned to a meat-only diet, which he claims dramatically improved his well-being. He now uses his platform to promote the benefits of the carnivore diet, particularly within the Jiu-Jitsu and military veteran communities. Myers has shared his personal transformation in various interviews and podcasts, explaining how the diet helped him overcome anxiety, depression, and other health issues, leading to renewed mental clarity and physical performance. He is active on Instagram and YouTube, where he continues to share his journey and promote the carnivore lifestyle to a broader audience, especially aiming to help others struggling with similar challenges. He also owns a Jiu-Jitsu academy and seeks to extend his influence to help more people, particularly veterans, adopt a carnivore diet for both mental and physical health benefits. His message has been featured on platforms like Dr. Shawn Baker's podcast. A conversation between Chad Myers and me on our mission in this culture - based on the latest from The EmbassyHere is an excerpt … I am not here to tell you how to be the Ambassador from the United States to (Sweden, Norway, Germany …). But let's reflect on what the job is - on why we are there. We, as ambassadors, are there to represent the interests of the United States and to represent the U.S.A. in that place - to exemplify “American” and to represent the policies, concerns, and presence of our country in that place. Now everything before the last three words of that description is roughly the same for all ambassadors. We have to learn those things and we have to, within our own uniqueness, embody a good representation of “American”. It is those last three words - “in that place” - that make what that looks like so different. We would need to learn the language, customs, stories, ambitions, interests, fears … of this new place. We would have to understand how to translate the first part of our Ambassador training into a different culture in such a way as to ensure the message is not lost or undermined inadvertently. How do I understand what they are communicating? How do I communicate effectively? What is unspoken? Can I tell if they understand? If I am offending? … all of those things change from culture to culture. Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here! All this is from God, who reconciled us to himself through Christ and gave us the ministry of reconciliation: that God was reconciling the world to himself in Christ, not counting people's sins against them. And he has committed to us the message of reconciliation. We are therefore Christ's ambassadors, as though God were making his appeal through us. We implore you on Christ's behalf: Be reconciled to God. God made him who had no sin to be sin for us, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.2 Corinthians 5:17-21You may have guessed I am not belaboring this ambassador illustration randomly. That is the mission of all Christians. We are to represent the Kingdom of God - the message and truths and paradigms and priorities of this kingdom - our home kingdom. We are to exemplify what a citizen of this kingdom should look like - a part of a transformed community of love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control. And we are to do all this in a way that translates into this place we live. In my opinion, we can tend to neglect the first part to some degree and completely ignore the second part - the “translate into this place” part. Instead, the danger is that we - if I am not being overly harsh - fail to recognize how much we distort the first part because of a lack of awareness of how much we are impacted by the culture we are in. We may risk becoming strangers in our home kingdom - God's Kingdom - because we have been co-opted by a cultural agenda we don't see because it has become invisible to us. We confuse winning a culture war (for example) with the agenda of home country.Avoiding that pitfall is vital, but it doesn't guarantee success. Success comes only as we combine this fundamental faithfulness with a sympathetic entrance into an ongoing process of understanding this culture in which we live and to which we have been called. Hating this culture (and inevitably the people in it) not only isn't a virtue, it is an obstacle to fulfilling our mission. It is hard to explore and understand what you have already decided has no virtue and no redeeming qualities. It is hard to live successfully, redemptively, lovingly in a place you are taught to hate. We have been given the ministry of reconciliation - which is a bringing together. If we retreat instead of taking two steps forward (see the previous installment in this series), we can't bring anything together. Get full access to The Embassy at theembassy.substack.com/subscribe

On Culture is the podcast for The Embassy. The foundation for this episode of On Culture is the corresponding dispatch from The Embassy - Art is For SeeingThanks again to Professor Agnes Callard for our correspondence regarding this piece and her piece (linked below). Thanks to Chad Myers for this quote - When we wish to correct with advantage, and to show another that he errs, we must notice from what side he views the matter, for on that side it is usually true, and admit that truth to him, but reveal to him the side on which it is false. He is satisfied with that, for he sees that he was not mistaken, and that he only failed to see all sides. Now, no one is offended at not seeing everything … Blaise Pascal - PenseesLinksArt is for Seeing Evil - Agnes Callard - The Point MagazineAll the Advantages are All the Disadvantages - The Embassy (referencing Lars and the Real Girl)Some examples:Tell all the truth but tell it slant - Emily Dickinson (mentioned in the On Culture podcast)“Hope” is the thing with feathers - Emily Dickinson (also mentioned) Get full access to The Embassy at theembassy.substack.com/subscribe
Let's say you have to remove a fence post. Who do you ask? Let's say a co-worker asks you about Christian Tarot Cards. Who do you trust? We say we have rejected authority - but have we? Is it even possible?Mike Sherman talks with Chad Myers about what a healthy relationship to authority (and truth and trust) might look like. The resource for On Culture episodes, as always, is the corresponding dispatch in The Embassy newsletter. Jesus answered them, in John 8:31-38 “Truly, truly, I say to you, everyone who practices sin is a slave to sin. The slave does not remain in the house forever; the son remains forever. So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed." So also, we do well to consider that freedom and truth are inseparably linked to the truth in God's economy. Just before this, Christ had said something else to the Jews who had believed him. “If you abide in my word, you are truly my disciples, and you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.” Thus we turn to the question my wife Lauren and I have been considering as our eldest two sons, Josiah and Eli, are asking about a cell phone and Facebook account. Both are teenagers. Josiah at 15 is taking driver's ed online right now, and Eli at 14 will soon be taking business classes one day a week at a local community college here in Greeley. They should probably have a cell phone, then. As for Facebook, I am more reluctant. Eli wants to use the Marketplace feature to buy and sell used things. He keeps asking me if he can create an account of his own, but the concerns about social media which listeners to this podcast have heard expressed for years are at the fore of this father's mind. Then yesterday, a guy I work with, Chad Myers sent me a link to an article at Medium from March 12, 2018 by a psychologist and author named Richard Freed after listening to my recent episodes about anxiety, depression, distractedness, and psychology. Titled 'The Tech Industry's War on Kids,' the piece by Freed which Chad sent me is over five-thousand words introducing 'persuasive technology' and its use in the development of everything from smart phones to video games to social media, and more. What is persuasive technology, you might ask? In brief, it is the wedding of psychology and engineering. More to the point, our vulnerabilities and most basic desires have been noted and catalogued, both by psychologists offline and thereafter by algorithms and databases online, in general as well as specific to our individual profiles. And a great deal of money is trading hands to the end of changing our behavior accordingly. In other words, we are all being manipulated, and I would even say enslaved. An endless variety of 'nudges' are targeting us via easy-to-use devices and applications that reward us for submitting ourselves and our information readily to them. So “keep your heart with all vigilance, for from it flow the springs of life." --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/garrett-ashley-mullet/message Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/garrett-ashley-mullet/support
