In today's episode, Greg and Phil discuss sales prospecting in the new year. They explain that many advisors like to engage with prospective new clients at the beginning of the year, when individuals are analyzing how their financial plan performed the previous year. An advisor can bring value to discussions with a prospective client in this context by discovering what has changed for them goal-wise and what adjustments they want to make to their portfolio Tune in to hear more about how resolution prospecting can be an effective way to maintain relationships and identify new opportunities with clients. Learn more about what Phil calls the “One-degree shift,” how it breaks behavioral patterns, and how it encourages individuals to grow into areas in which they might have previously been afraid or uncomfortable to go.Keypoints: *Phil and Greg discussThe 12-Week Year by Brian P. Moran and Michael Lennington. One of the core tenets of the book is that Advisors and other salespeople should look at their sales goals more like a CEO who uses four 12-week segments to forecast out their year. *Most salespeople make a linear plan when forecasting sales and think that every month should have the same production. This puts an Advisor on a difficult footing from the very beginning of the year and creates a reactive cycle. Instead, Phil believes it's an effective strategy for his clients to follow this quarterly mindset and place special emphasis on the fourth quarter of the year. *Resolution prospecting ties in with life-event or life-stage planning. *Changing life stages often have profound financial implications on prospects and clients who are about to enter a new life stage. Clients in a state of change often feel as if they have “permission to buy” new products and services. *Greg and Phil discuss the Sea Captain Coaching concept of the one-degree shift and how it applies to achieving success in Resolution Prospecting.SeaCaptainCoaching.comInstagram linkFB linkConnect with PhilLinkedinConnect with GregLinkedin

Phil and Greg discuss the importance of gratitude in the workplace. They explain how expressing gratitude can build strong relationships with clients, and how it is particularly important as you wrap up your business year.KeypointsOne of the key touchstones of Sea Captain Coaching's practice is gratitude. SCC encourages its clients to embrace a spirit of gratitude by taking time to truly appreciate the people, opportunities, and meaningful experiences they have in their lives and cultivate that feeling on a daily basis. An “abundance mindset” involves embracing the outlook that there is plenty out there for everybody. It's a conscious choice to live your life that way. It's not just that the glass is half empty or half full, but that the glass also can be refilled. There is a concept in the marketing industry called “gratitude marketing.” It stems from the fact that human beings are basically hard-wired to want to help each other. Business owners can leverage the principles of helping others, expressing gratitude, and the Rule of Reciprocity, to market themselves and their practices. One of the greatest shifts financial advisors make in their practice is the point at which they move to running their firm. A priority at Sea Captain Coaching is helping clients understand how shifting from a monthly sales mindset to a quarterly CEO mindset allows for a more proactive execution of their business's growth plan. It involves learning to let go and determining an organizational model that allows them to effectively run your organization. Keypoints ·       A key objective in shifting to a CEO mindset is for the leader to shift from working in a Compensatory Success frame of mind to a Visionary Success mindset.  ·       CEOs forecast results and maintain a quarterly mindset. They must also be visionary and be able to lead their firm.   ·       As clients grow from being a successful sales leader to becoming the CEO of their growing practice, developing a new organizational structure is a huge part of the equation.  ·       The organizational model that helped a business owner achieve their current level of success is most likely not going to put them on a trajectory to future quantum growth.   ·       Evolving from being a successful sales leader to becoming the CEO of an organization requires a plan for the growth and development of team members.   ·       As your business grows, it becomes necessary to systematize what you do to ensure your clients get the consistent high-quality service they expect.   ·       Phil and Greg discuss the challenges clients encounter in working to develop a new CEO business model. ·       The pair discuss the four top items to consider when training new team members.  https://seacaptaincoaching.com/ (SeaCaptainCoaching.com) https://www.instagram.com/seacaptaincoaching/ (Instagram link)

Some changes are easy to make. For example, if you want to eat healthier, you can start by making small tweaks to your diet like adding more fruits and vegetables. However, it can be more difficult if they require changing long-held behaviors or beliefs. In this episode Phil and Greg talk about Shifting Behaviors/One-Degree Shift. They share how this can produce a big result for you over time.   Keypoints On a sailing vessel, a one-degree shift can take a boat dangerously off its course over a vast ocean. But in a financial planning practice this shift, this break in pattern, allows you to experience real growth — visionary growth. What is the one-degree shift for your practice that — relentlessly pursued over a period of three-to-five years — will take you to this new place? What risks would you take  to achieve dynamic growth? When you pursue this discovery, you transition from a familiar past to a healthier, more productive future. You also will begin to recognize new ways of seeing practice development, market opportunity, branding initiatives and other possibilities. Making this shift involves putting yourself in the position of running your business versus your business running you. It is crucial to break free of limiting behavior patterns and set new goals as part of his one-degree shift. Phil and Greg discuss designing your environment so you have to perform.   https://seacaptaincoaching.com/ (SeaCaptainCoaching.com) https://www.instagram.com/seacaptaincoaching/ (Instagram link) https://www.facebook.com/seacaptaincoaching (FB link) Connect with Phil https://www.linkedin.com/in/philbender (Linkedin) Connect with Greg https://www.linkedin.com/in/gjpatton (Linkedin)
