SEASON 10 The Learning Leader Daily Leadership Tips and Discussions Thank you for listening. I'm Paul Grau Jr., the host of this show, and I'm excited about Season 10. This season will focus on “The Learning Leader” and/or as we refer to it here at The CLC Team, “The Expanding Leader. Every episode will primarily focus on the lifelong journey of expanding your knowledge of leadership, and I will try to give you a daily takeaway to put what you learn into action. My goal is that you learn something that you can take immediate action on, and see how powerful expanding your leadership can be. Influencing Others begins with you! How are you influencing others by the way you carry yourself and by your character? What expectations do you have for yourself?... for your family members?... for people your work with and around? Today's episode mentioned the book The Art of Influence: Persuading Others Begins With You by Chris Widener. I highly recommend this book for you and your team to go through together and to talk about every paragraph because there are leadership lessons on every page! The Art of Influence: Persuading Others Begins With You: https://amzn.to/3VCfmNF Here are links to some books I've mentioned in various episodes. If it's listed, I highly recommend it! BTW, These make great Christmas stocking stuffers for the leaders in your life!! “How To Win Friends & Influence People,” by Dale Carnegie https://amzn.to/3AJ7q69 “Getting To YES, Negotiating Agreement Without Giving In,” by Roger Fisher & William Ury https://amzn.to/4fptLET “Positive Intelligence: Why only 20% of teams and individuals achieve their true potential and How You Can Achieve Yours” https://amzn.to/4ekoltz A Great Book on Self Talk: “What to Say When You Talk to Yourself'” by Shad Helmstetter, https://amzn.to/47rO3uu “High Road Leadership: Bringing people together in a world that divides.” By John C, Maxwell, https://amzn.to/4cWxury **To learn more about how Paul can walk you and your team through a 12-week High Road Leadership Mastermind, contact him at Paul@CLCTeam.com and put “High Road Leadership” in the subject block. MORE Books below. Have you ever wondered why it's so difficult for a group of leaders to norm or be consistent? Well, it's because every leader is unique and has their own style and way of leading their team. By coming together and forming a bond in your organizations leadership team, you can begin norming better than ever before. I use the DISC assessment with every client and team I work with and have found it to be a real game-changer for the entire team. This is certainly no different when you have a group of leaders together. In order for them to work together in unison, they have to begin by knowing each other very well. That's where the DISC comes in, so I will mix the DISC behavioral styles in throughout this series. I am a DISC Certified Trainer and Consultant and have worked with behavioral styles for over 20 years. I am certified through the John Maxwell Leadership Team and have worked with hundreds of teams. If you are interested in having me work with your team leaders or if you want to purchase a DISC assessments for yourself and your team, please contact me via email at Paul@CLCTeam.com If you want to dive in deeper, here are some great books to read and study about the behavioral styles: “Surrounded by Idiots” by Thomas Erikson https://amzn.to/4gphp0D “Full Spectrum Success: Living and Leading in True Color” by Jacob Adamo https://amzn.to/3zglV0A “The Four Tendencies” by Gretchen Rubin https://amzn.to/4dVCMVB “Wired That Way” by Marita Littauer. https://amzn.to/4dZHXUj “Personality PLUS” by Florence Littauer. https://amzn.to/4d1jQmT Please listen daily (Mon – Friday) as Paul focuses on not only giving tips about how to be a great leader, but also a leader who is respected, a leader who people want to follow, a leader who can confidently navigate their way through both personal and professional challenges, a leader who is not afraid to share their faith while living it out, a leader who knows his/her purpose and lives to fulfill that purpose every day, and a leader who has no regrets! As always, I value your feedback and comments, especially your perspectives and opinions. Please share them with me by emailing them to Paul@CLCTeam.com Lots of new stuff to come... please consider subscribing, sharing with a friend, and giving me a review on whatever platform you listen on. Have a great day and Lead Well! “Run To Your Challenges!”
Another prank from Nephew Tommy
Amanda Prowse and Penny Dommett nattering around the kitchen table, chatting about all things random. Are we sitting comfortably... here we go! Have we noticed how Penny's voice gets higher when she gets excited - we love it! How lovely was it when we were read to as children, audiobooks are a lovely replica of that! We look at the process of reading and recording an audiobook - it's a lot! Mandy sings all the way to a recording to open up her pipes - it works! We get a ping from my dad, as usual and he's had a pasty - yay! We talk about the lovely people you meet in a waiting room - if you are brave enough to chat to them... Mandy met Norman and he was just wonderful! We think motion is the lotion and the more you move the younger you stay - right? Penny gives us good advice on bulb planting - now is the time apparently! We talk about being ready for Christmas and how we are both terrible at leaving things til the last minute for the festive season- let's hope there's still sprouts on the shelf. Penny hates coloured Christmas lights and anything too kitsch - Mandy is the opposite! We talk about the joy of houses decked in lights - it's wonderful that people do that for others. Neither of us are massive fans of Christmas and we are both asleep long before Midnight on New Year's Eve!!! Bah Humbug! Party animals we are not... Do we still send Christmas cards? Have we seen the price of postage?? We talk about the things you can do for free over the Festive season - and the starting of traditions - the lovely things we all remember! Penny had the joy of Monty's nativity - not a dry eye in the house! It reminds us of our own nativities of our childhood - which weren't always successful. Penny is flabbergasted by a Terry's chocolate orange - yes, really! Happy Christmas one and all, we send you love. And don't forget - January 11th - OUR LIVE EVENT save the DATE!!! XSo, if you fancy it, pull up a chair and join us for a delightfully irreverent chit chat about life and all its random tangents - bring a cuppa. Cake optional...
The holidays are in full swing, and homes are shining bright with fairy lights, glittering tinsel, and stunning Christmas trees. While your decorations might impress your guests, they could be causing your Wi-Fi to drag! Yes, those festive decorations might be slowing down your internet. Why - and how to fix it! Christmas Decorations Slowing Down Your Wi-Fi Fairy lights: Twinkling fairy lights are a must-have for setting the holiday mood, but they can also create electromagnetic interference that disrupts your Wi-Fi signal. This happens because these lights emit frequencies that overlap with those used by your router, particularly if they're blinking or in close proximity to the device. This results in slower speeds and buffering when you're trying to stream your favourite Christmas movie. What to do:Place your router as far away from fairy lights as possible and consider using LED lights with lower interference potential. Tinsel: Tinsel adds sparkle to your tree, but its metallic surface reflects Wi-Fi signals, causing them to bounce away from where they're needed. This can create "dead zones" where your internet connection weakens. What to do Avoid decorating your router with tinsel or other metallic objects. Use non-metallic decor near areas where you need strong Wi-Fi speed. Christmas tree Your Christmas tree, especially when covered in lights and ornaments, can block Wi-Fi signals if it's too close to your router. The tree itself and all the decorations on it can reduce the strength of your connection. What to do:Position your tree and router in separate areas. If your router is centrally located for optimal coverage, ensure the tree isn't directly in its path. 3 Simple Tips to Keep Your Wi-Fi Working Well Move the router Keep your router away from fairy lights, tinsel, and your Christmas tree. Place it in an open, central spot, preferably up high, to get the best coverage. Minimise disruption: Devices like microwaves and baby monitors can also interfere with your Wi-Fi signal. Keep your router away from these to ensure better performance. Extend your signal If your Wi-Fi doesn't reach all areas of your home, try a Wi-Fi extender to ensure a stronger, more reliable connection throughout. This Christmas, you don't have to choose between festive decorations and a reliable connection. By following these tips, you can enjoy the best of both worlds. Hello to you listening in Lake Chelan, Washington!Coming to you from Whidbey Island, Washington this is Stories From Women Who Walk with 60 Seconds for Wednesdays on Whidbey and your host, Diane Wyzga. Unpacking boxes of Christmas decorations the other day I came upon a faded red folder I had first received in early December of my freshman year when I was away at college. It held faded multi-colored sheets of construction paper. On a side of each one was carefully glued the face of a re-purposed Christmas greeting card and under each card was text in mom's careful Palmer style handwriting. A poem, a quote, a few favorite remembered lines. The cover sheet reads: “Kris Kringle Vitamins One-a-Day Brand. Take 1 while supplies last.” It was mom's way of helping me prepare for the Christmas Season so I didn't get lost in the bright lights of the HoliDazed. This is the verse I read today:“The weakest among us has a gift, however seemingly trivial, which is peculiar to him, and which worthily used, will be a gift to his race forever.”Question: What particular gift of yours will be a gift to your race forever? 60 Seconds is your daily dose of hope, imagination, wisdom, stories, practical tips, and general riffing on this and that. On this week's podcast, Pat Cobe, senior menu editor of Restaurant Business, and Bret Thorn, senior food & beverage editor of Nation's Restaurant News and Restaurant Hospitality, discuss recent tasting adventures as the holidays approach. Pat went to Pete's Tavern near Union Square in Manhattan, which decks itself out in Christmas regalia every year. She went early with friends to beat the crowds and enjoyed well-made fish & chips while her friends had burgers and nachos. The festive décor and negronis made up for the pouring rain. On another day, Pat and her friends went to Mermaid Inn's Times Square location, which has an “amazing” happy hour from 4-5:30 p.m. every day. That includes $12 cocktails and a bunch of appetizers, highlighted by particularly good oysters. Bret went to the 30th anniversary celebration of Virgil's, also in Times Square. It's a barbecue restaurant run by the same people who operate neighboring Italian-American landmark Carmine's. Both are among those rare places in Midtown Manhattan where you can usually show up with a large crowd and get a table, and also eat your fill for a reasonable price. A guest at the celebration was Shaw-naé Dixon of Shaw-naé's House on Staten Island, who served her Savage Fries, which are fries topped with braised oxtail, four cheese mac & cheese and collard greens. Bret recommended that highly. Bret also shared an interview with Chris and Megan Curren, who operate Graceful Ordinary, a restaurant in St. Charles, Illinois, that opened at the tail-end of the pandemic and serves satisfying and slightly cheffed-up food from its wood-burning hearth. Give a listen.

Irish Breakdown answers subscriber questions about Notre Dame football and more on today's show. Some of today's topics include: * We in/ we out on ND hosting a first round playoff game this year? Do we get a round one win regardless of hosting? * In or out on Jerry Jones, Mike McCarthy and Dak Prescott? * Christmas Decorations before Thanksgiving: In or Out? * In or out on Lincoln Riley as the next head coach of the Dallas Cowboys? * Olivia Miles will have at least one more triple double this season. In or out? At least two more? * Hannah Hidalgo will lead the ACC in steals this year. * Hidalgo will have more steals by herself than at least three whole teams in the ACC. * Notre Dame as a team will lead the ACC in blocked shots. * We In/ We Out: Due to the difficulty of the first half of the 2025 Schedule, ND once again goes to the Portal for an established High level QB instead of rolling with a Kenny Minchey or CJ Carr, probably Carr who will have no real experience? * Jeremiyah Love has 150 yrds from scrimmage and 2 touchdowns vs Florida State. In or out? * We In/We Out: The SEC will have a 2 loss champion, and will be the only conference with a 2 loss champion. * Joel Klatt says that Notre Dame is not in control of their own destiny stating: “What happens if one of those teams, Iowa State, Kansas State, Colorado, get into the Big 12 Championship game and beat BYU? Well now you're starting to be compared as an 11-1 against 12-1 Miami, 11-1 Indiana, 12-1 BYU, 10-2 Alabama, or 10-2 LSU, or 10-2 Texas A&M,” Klatt explained. “The best case scenario would be if they could be compared directly to Texas A&M, because they would have the head to head win over them from the beginning of the year.” IN or OUT? * Vegas sets the over/under of total points scored by FSU at 7.5 are you in or out on that bet? * Are we in or are we out that Penn State needs a change at head coach to take that next step? * Lincoln Riley = Charlie Weis it's all about the scheme, not fundamentals. We in or we out on that comp? * We in or We out on Love and Price both running for 100 yards Saturday? * In or out: Riley Leonard rushes for less than 50 yards? * Leonard throws for 250 yards. In or out? * The Notre Dame Defense gets 3+ sacks. In or out? * We In/We Out: Anthonie Knapp doesn't get a holding penalty. * Marcus Freeman and Mike Norvell's post game conversation lasts longer than 5 seconds with Freeman in his ear. In or Out?
