Brian provided the soundtrack to so many characters of our childhoods, whether as a writer or actor. His work with Cosgrove Hall Films included Chorlton and the Wheelies, Dangermouse, Cockleshell Bay and Jamie and the Magic Torch. But he had a career before helping to bring to life these animation classics - in acting, in journalism too. Here in an interview recorded in 2016, we hear Brian being interviewed for a special radio doc by Made in Manchester (Distinct Nostalgia's producers) which was never aired. We've only found half of it and will put the second part as soon as we find it. In the meantime enjoy over an hour with one of the real greats of Television. Distinct Nostalgia presenter Ashley Byrne says: 'Brian memorably once said to me in a Granada TV programme we made 'you should never patronise kids. Treat them like little adults and throw the smarties high.' That comes over in all of his animation work. RIP Brian. You were a genuine legend for millions of us. Researched by Andrew Edwards. Harvey Brownstone conducts an in-depth interview with Bob Gunton, Legendary Actor, Star, “The Shawshank Redemption” About Harvey's guest: Today's special guest, Bob Gunton, is a veteran actor whose prolific body of work over the past 5 decades has created some of the most memorable roles in movies, on television and on the Broadway stage.   On the big screen, he brought us “Chief George Earle” in "Demolition Man", “Mr. Pease” in “Delores Claiborne”, “Pritchett” in “Broken Arrow”, medical school dean Dr. Walcott in "Patch Adams", Cecil Dobbs in “The Lincoln Lawyer”, and Secretary of State Cyrus Vance in "Argo".   But the one role, more than any other, that has guaranteed him cinematic immortality, is his chilling portrayal of the despicable Prison Warden “Samuel Norton” in "The Shawshank Redemption".   On television, in addition to many guest appearances on shows like “Miami Vice”, “L.A. Law”, “CSI”, “Nip/Tuck”, “Boston Legal”, “Law & Order: SVU”, “The Blacklist”, and dozens more, he played Governor George Wallace in “Unconquered”, he played Tommy Dorsey in the 1992 miniseries “Sinatra”, he played President Woodrow Wilson in “Iron Jawed Angels”, he played President Nixon in “Elvis Meets Nixon”, and he played President Roosevelt twice: once in the TV movie, “Kingfish: A Story of Huey P. Long”, and again in the miniseries “World War 2: Behind Closed Doors”.   He also had recurring roles, as Dr. Leonard Schrader on “Hothouse”, “Judge Homer Conklin” in “Courthouse”, “Mayor Smith” in “Peacemakers”, “Noah Taylor” in “Desperate Housewives”, the Secretary of Defense, then Chief of Staff, then Secretary of State “Ethan Kanin” on “Twenty-Four”, “Leland Owlsley” in "Daredevil", “General William Collins” in “Royal Pains”, and “Jeremiah Davis” in “Trial and Error”.    And if all of that weren't enough, our guest is a Broadway superstar.  He originated the role of “Juan Perón” in the Broadway premiere of Evita, receiving a Tony Award nomination AND a Drama Desk Award for Outstanding Featured Actor in a Musical.  And he played the title role in the Broadway revival of “Sweeney Todd”, earning a second Tony Award nomination, and nominations for an Outer Critics Circle Award and a Drama Desk Award.   His other Broadway credits include “King of Hearts”, for which he received a Drama Desk Award nomination for Outstanding Featured Actor in a Musical, “How I Got That Story”, for which he won an Obie Award, a Clarence Derwent Award, and a Drama Desk Award nomination for Outstanding Actor in a Play, “Big River”, for which he received a Drama Desk Award nomination for Outstanding Featured Actor in a Musical, and “The Great Ostrovsky”, for which he received a Barrymore Award Nomination for Excellence in Theatre. For more interviews and podcasts go to: https://www.harveybrownstoneinterviews.com/ To see more about Bob Gunton, go to:https://www.imdb.com/name/nm0348409/https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bob_Guntonhttp://www.tcm.com/tcmdb/person/78189%7C0/Bob-Gunton/ #BobGunton    #harveybrownstoneinterviews

Harvey Brownstone conducts an in-depth interview with Louis Gossett Jr., Legendary Actor, Author & Humanitarian About Harvey's guest: Today's special guest, Louis Gossett Jr., is one of our most beloved and respected actors, who's been thrilling audiences with his iconic performances since he first conquered Broadway at the age of 17 in “Take a Giant Step”, followed by “The Desk Set”, “Golden Boy”, “The Zulu and the Zayda”, and “My Sweet Charlie”.     He also starred on Broadway in “A Raisin in the Sun”, and then made his film debut in the 1961 movie adaptation of the play.   His unforgettable portrayal of “Fiddler” in the groundbreaking miniseries “Roots” earned him an Emmy Award for Outstanding lead actor.  And of course, who can ever forget him as Sgt. Emil Foley in “An Officer and a Gentleman”, for which he won the 1983 Academy Award AND Golden Globe Award for Best Supporting Actor, making him the first Black actor to win in that category.     Besides his Emmy Award for Roots, he got 7 more Emmy Award nominations for his work in “The Sentry Collection Presents Ben Vereen: His Roots”, “Backstairs at the White House”, “Palmerstown, USA”, “A Gathering of Old Men”, “Touched By an Angel”, “Watchmen” and “Sadat”, for which he was also nominated for a Golden Globe Award.  And he got another Golden Globe Award nomination for his performance in “The Josephine Baker Story”.    He's had 3 Daytime Emmy Award nominations, and won the award for Best Children's Special, for “In His Father's Shoes”.  He's been nominated 6 times for NAACP Image Awards and won twice.  And in 1992, he was awarded a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.   Very soon, we will all get to see him in his latest role, as “Mister” in the musical film version of “The Color Purple”.    In addition to his illustrious acting career, our guest is an accomplished writer, producer, director and musician – and perhaps most importantly, he's a social activist, educator and humanitarian, dedicated to eliminating racism and fighting injustice wherever it exists, in all its forms.   In 2010 he released his riveting memoir entitled "An Actor and a Gentleman," chronicling not only the many triumphs of his monumental career, but also the heartbreaking and sometimes insurmountable obstacles he confronted and overcame as a working actor, and especially as a Black man in America.   In 2006, he founded The Eracism Foundation, which is a nonprofit organization dedicated to eradicating racism, fostering cultural diversity, historical enrichment, education and anti-violence initiatives. For more interviews and podcasts go to: https://www.harveybrownstoneinterviews.com/
