Mat Alano-Martin began his stand-up career 13 years ago in Bloomington, Ind. He's got a home at the Comedy Attic and he teamed up with its owner, Jared Thompson, back in 2013 to create the Limestone Comedy Festival, which they now run with Dwight Simmons. Alano-Martin came from the punk scene, where he played in several bands -- as the singer, guitarist, bassist and drummer. He just released his third comedy album, Midnight Nachos, and recorded his first half-hour special for Helium. While Deb's apparent resemblance to Amy Schumer (at least according to the random lady in the grocery store and Ed Schwartzman) doesn't make her funny, Deb and Amy do share a love for the Comedy Attic. In fact, Amy Schumer named the Comedy Attic one of the top 10 comedy clubs in the nation. And Deb agrees. The business of making people laugh isn't easy, but over the last 10 years, Jared & Dayna Thompson have built a Midwestern comedy mecca for fans and comedians alike. Not only does the Comedy Attic book some of the top names in comedy, they've helped their fair share of local comedians hone their chops. Community is also important to them. So much so, that they donate the proceeds from their yearly anniversary show and have raised over $45,000 for local charities over the last ten years! With six professional shows and an open mic weekly, there are plenty of chances to laugh loud and enjoy one of the best comedy clubs in the United States, right here in downtown Bloomington. In our Facebook Follow segment we encourage listeners to be a part of the Bloomington food truck scene by following Top Shotta Jerk Chicken and Cuisine. A sweet story and a spicy (not too spicy) chicken. Can't get any better than that! Hello and welcome to The Rob Burgess Show. I am, of course, your host, Rob Burgess. On this, our 123rd episode, our returning guest is Carlos Dengler. You first heard Carlos Dengler on Episode 87 and Episode 88 of the podcast. Carlos Dengler is a New York City actor, writer and musician. He has written for n+1 and Seven Stories Press and is working with Foundry Literary + Media on writing his first memoir. In 2016, Carlos wrote and performed his first one person show for the New York City International Fringe Festival called Homo Sapiens Interruptus. Later in the year, he understudied for Josh Radnor at Lincoln Center Theater in a production of the Richard Greenberg play The Babylon Line. Also in 2016, Carlos appeared as a guest musician with the Late Night with Seth Meyers band. Carlos spent the better part of the aughts, from 1997 to 2010, playing bass and keyboards with the band Interpol, which he co-founded with other band members at NYU. Recently in 2015, he received an MFA from NYU Grad Acting, in addition to a BA in Philosophy, also from NYU, back in 1999. She was a semi-finalist on Last Comic Standing and has performed on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno and Conan. Nikki hosted Nikki and Sara Live, a weekly talk show on MTV, for two seasons. She also performed on the one hour special, Women Who Kill, available on Netflix. Nikki was joined by comedian Tom Brady. Tom won the 2009 and 2011 Bloomington Comedy Festivals, held at the Comedy Attic in Bloomington, IN. Recently, Tom was featured on PBS as a centerpiece for a segment on the art of comedy. This summer, he has been chosen to perform on the main stage at the Limestone Comedy Festival in Bloomington, IN, as well as on the main stage at the Cincinnati Brew Haha Comedy Festival in Cincinnati, OH.Tom also hosts the podcast, “Girls’ Night with Tom Brady”.
