Episode 2260 - Retro Rewind back to April 27, 2016, where The Kid and Dago Unchained serve up a buffet of 2010s degeneracy: sex charts, awkward ex encounters, and a drink that tastes like Fruity Pebbles but hits like regret. We meet the mighty Goni Jizz Jazz (you'll never unhear it), mourn Prince with a dash of inappropriate honesty, and learn why Daphne Deloren is the Midwest's unofficial weather wank queen. Dago reflects on his post-divorce sexcapades, beer reviews get wildly NSFW, and we confirm there are zero minorities at the 80s Fest. Oh—and Chynna could crush your dick like mashed potatoes through braces. You're welcome.
Folks, let me give you a piece of advice; when your AdBlocker subscription is about to run out and you have a TV night planned for your employees - please remember to renew that thing immediately. You have no idea how mad people get when they're forced to watch the same Fruity Pebbles commercial fifty seven times… I'm your host, Dave, and joining me as we rot our brains with some good old fashioned late 90s and early 2000s kids commercials are fellow tv-philes and recovering Waffle Crisp addicts, Mike, Jackie, and Ryan. Topics of discussion in this episode include a plea to the kids of the past to stop eating so much damn sugary cereal!!!; we long for the journalistic integrity of Nick News; and finally, we pour one out for AOL, the internet juggernaut of the 90s. Be sure to rate, review and subscribe wherever you get your podcasts. You can also Follow Us on Twitter, Like Us on Facebook, or shoot us an email at apocalypsevideopod@gmail.com What are some of your childhood commercial favorites? Were you a Cookie Crisp kid or a Chips Ahoy! fan? Let us know, we wanna hear from ya. And if you want to watch along with us as we rot our brains on this episode, be sure to head over to YouTube to check out the best commercials that 1999 Nickelodeon and 2003 Toonami have to offer. That'll do it for this episode, folks. Remember to include some non-sugary cereals in your breakfast routine once and a while, and for god's sake, whatever you do, do NOT eat the Lunchables Burgers - they're not as delicious as you think they are.

If you want an ad-free experience, you can subscribe below underneath the show description.West Virginia is the first state to begin the process of banning a wide range of food dyes and other synthetic food preservatives, something strictly contrasted by their leading the nation in obesity and being overweight, not to mention the state having the highest of the former for children, the highest rate of high cholesterol and type 2 diabetes, and being a leader in obesity-related death, and hypertension. But you have to start somewhere. Other states are following, from Oklahoma to New York. This comes immediately after a meeting between RFK Jr and the CEOs of PepsiCo North America, Kraft Heinz, General Mills, Tyson Foods, W.K. Kellogg and J.M. Smucker. Some proposed laws would also require food companies to disclose “secret” food ingredients to the public that have been allowed into the marketplace under a federal standard known as “generally recognized as safe”, or GRAS, a term that acts like a rubber stamp for fraud. The National Confectioners Association (NCA) said that the measures “will make food significantly more expensive for, and significantly less accessible to, people in the states that pass them.” The association also said the federal government – in the form of the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) – should be the final arbiter for food additives. But this is not food, and the FDA cannot be the final arbiter of food additives when it is essentially run by the industry it is supposed to regulate. Men's Health magazine goes on to parrot the same NCA talking points: “Processed foods are safe, inexpensive, and capable of delivering nutrition—especially to people of lower-income and/or living in food deserts, where fresh food is hard to find. In fact, healthy food prices are increasing at a rate almost double that of unhealthy foods.”This argument is similar to the one used by biotech, claiming for decades that their products and patents would lower the cost of food. They haven't. In a write up for the same Men's Health magazine, Abby Langer, R.D., MH nutrition advisor, repeats another talking point: “Banning dyes stirs up unnecessary anxiety around the food system, which is the safest it has ever been.” When a recent laboratory report was published on Girl Scout cookies, demonstrating the high levels of heavy metals and chemicals, the FDA said naturally-occurring heavy metals like arsenic, cadmium, chromium, lead, and mercury are just a “reality about our food supply.” Abby then goes on to parrot the NCA by opposing bans over the issue of cost: the banning of these dyes may drive up food prices as companies scramble to find alternatives, furthering the issue of food security, Langer says. "Nobody thinks that Fruity Pebbles and candy are health foods; however, when ultra-processed foods are the cheapest and most accessible option, that's where the problem lies," Langer says. "I consider the entire food dye conversation a distraction from what we really should be focusing on: access to healthy foods, access to healthcare, nutrition education in schools, grocery prices, and food deserts."But food deserts only affect 13% of the population, while the poorest residents tend to live in cities. Those in the so-called deserts usually have the means to travel the 1-20 mile which constitutes a desert, or they have the ability to order food. This same argument is being use Axios to defend SNAP allowing for the purchase of junk: “There are a number of risks with the proposal to cut foods from SNAP, including logistical and cost concerns, access in food deserts, equity issues and questions over how to measure success and behavioral changes among consumers.”These are the same arguments that have been used by industry and their PR representatives for decades, like when, 12 years ago, so called journalists claimed McDonald's was the “cheapest and most nutritious food in human history.”Food industry advocates have protested efforts to ban the additives, citing what they say is a lack of proof that the chemicals are harmful to people, and arguing such laws will raise food prices. Thus the argument has shifted from defending this trash as “food” to justifying its as “junk.”In other news, the Girl Scouts are being sued for their garbage cookies.-FREE ARCHIVE (w. ads)SUBSCRIPTION ARCHIVEX / TWITTER FACEBOOKWEBSITECashApp: $rdgable EMAIL: rdgable@yahoo.com / TSTRadio@protonmail.comBecome a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/tst-radio--5328407/support.

Robert Beck was a staff photographer for Sports Illustrated for over 30 years. Raised in California, he played and photographed “alternative sports” long before the term “X Games” was coined. The result of shooting outside the box has given Robert the platform to shoot even the biggest “American Games” in a slightly skewed manner with a very fresh eye. 1977 UCI history alumnus has been one of the nation's premier sports photographers, a career he fell into almost accidentally while working as a middle school teacher and football coach. Robert borrowed his dad's Canon AE-1 Program camera and started shooting high school sports, selling the prints to parents and students. Beck has shot 10 Super Bowls; a half-dozen Olympics; and countless games, matches and athletic achievements, such as Wayne Gretzky's record-breaking 802nd hockey goal. He has also developed a reputation for compelling portraits. Why are we feeding our kids ultra-processed foods? In 1948, the childhood obesity rate was less than 1%, and food allergies, asthma, and autism were virtually non-existent. Discover the detrimental health consequences of the ultra-processed food diet in this podcast. When my father was a child in 1948, he recalls a different way of life. Sugary cereals like Fruit Loops, Captain Crunch, and Fruity Pebbles did not line the aisles of the grocery store. Children did not have mid-morning snacks at school and were told not to spoil their appetites by eating before dinner. Saturated fats were not demonized as they are today. Lard and tallow were found in every kitchen, and red meat was a dietary staple. Most people had gardens and relied on the skill of canning to get them through the winter. Obesity and chronic disease in childhood were uncommon, while childhood obesity, food allergies, asthma, and autism plague the children of today! The largest category of ultra-processed foods are snack foods. The problem with snacking is that you spike insulin every time you eat. Carbohydrates create the most significant spike in insulin. Not only are we snacking, but we're snacking on the worst foods! The pancreas is constantly working to pump out insulin to remove sugar from the blood. This eventually leads to insulin resistance, which is behind almost every chronic illness, including a fatty liver, high blood pressure, diabetes, obesity, inflammatory diseases, mood disorders, dementia, and more. In 1948, we did not have not have ultra-processed food calories. Today, 65% of the teenage diet comes from ultra-processed food calories. This number is around 50% for adults and 45% for toddlers. Seed oils, such as soy, corn, cottonseed, and canola, are the worst ultra-processed food ingredients. Around 25% to 30% of all our calories come from seed oils. Grain-based starches generate 220 billion dollars per year! Highly processed industrial starches such as modified food starch, modified cornstarch, and maltodextrin spike blood sugar—often higher than consuming sugar does!

Who's your #mommy culties: Taylor or Whitney? That's right, fresh(ish?) off the release of Hulu's Secret Lives of Mormon Wives reality series (for which Amanda and Reese attended a blissfully tinsel-adorned premiere party #notsponsored lol), this week we are covering the cult of Mormon MomTok. This coalition of young Mormon mothers turned TikTok stars raises a truly baffling number of questions: Are these girls really Mormon? Does that matter? Where are their garments? Are they even friends? And most importantly, will MomTok survive the "swinging scandal" that overtook headlines a few years back, earning these gals their own TV show?!?!?!??!?! Grab your heaviest Stanley, fill it with Fruity Pebbles ;) and settle in to have all of your most sacred prayers answered. Potentially cultier than the sum of its cults (and trust us there are plenty), Reese and Amanda are determined to get to the bottom of the drama-filled, diet Dr. Pepper flavored mom-strosisty that is #MomTok. Paul Hawley and Miguel Smith from Fogbelt Brewing are the guests on Brew Ha Ha with Steve Jaxon and Herlinda Heras. Fogbelt first brewed beer in 2013 and started brewing commercially in 2014. They also have a pub in Santa Rosa and a new larger production space. They were among the first brewers to emphasize fresh hops and wet hopped beer and this is the time of year when that is happening. September 16-22 they have interesting corn dogs, not the normal kind. Each month they work on different beer and food pairings. Today they have a wet hop IPA that goes with a jalapeño corn dog. One is made with Fruity Pebbles. Another is a Ramen noodle corn dog, with a cheese sauce. “These are the wildest looking cord dogs that I have ever seen.” -Steve Jaxon Wet hopped beers are very seasonal and you would try to drink them as soon as you can. Their wet hop Oktoberfest celebration takes place in their parking lot on Saturday, September 21. They will also have a full German menu with sausages and potato salad, sauerkraut, etc. Monthly Beer & Food Pairings Every month they do a week-long food pairing, alternating between their two locations. In September the wet hopped beers go with these exotic corn dogs. Then, this October, the Santa Rosa location will feature tamales. Russian River Brewing Co. is open in Santa Rosa on 4th St. and at their big Windsor location. Visit their website for up-to-date hours, menus, beers and more. Miguel came to Fogbelt as Head Chef, after having worked in fine restaurants in San Francisco and many other places, since age 14. The morning of a hop harvest, Paul will go out to the fields and inspect the crop. They bring the hops directly to the brewery. Meanwhile, Remy in getting the wort made in the brewery, and he then adds the hops to the empty clean vessel, then they pour the boiling wort back in, for kind of a tea extraction before going into fermentation. The requirements of logistics make it fun and challenging. Picking window on hops is usually a couple of weeks, so they have a little wiggle room. But if the weather changes suddenly they might have to react fast. See our sponsor Victory House at Poppy Bank Epicenter online, for their latest viewing and menu options. They have a dog costume contest, and the winner gets featured on a beer the following year. There was mastiff dog dressed as the joker that won last year and his beer is coming soon. Herlinda has bad news, that Hopland Tap is closing. Ron Lindenbusch kept it open as long as he could.

Welcome to the show. It's our first outside cast in about 2 years and it is beautiful. Today we are enjoying the sunshine and some more great coffee from Air Works. This Brazilia Fazenda Guariroba is from Sibiu, Romania and it is a Lactic Ferment Process. It smells and tastes like Fruity Pebbles. Crazy! This summer is shaping up to be a banger. Lots of great things on the horizon. Enjoy! Welcome to the show. Mike is back from his Boston adventure and we have a crazy new coffee. Todays sip is from our friends at AirWorks Coffee. It's called FIG TWIST DAK and it's from the Netherlands. This is some wild brew. As we drink this very unique coffee we talk about the idea of originality which was inspired by a passage from a book by Haruki Murakami entitled Novelist As A Vocation. It's a great read. Enjoy! Is it ok to enjoy Fruity Pebbles and Trix cereal? I've been called Dr. Trix and Dr. Pebbles on social media due to my supposedly controversial views on breakfast cereal. Can sugary breakfast cereals be a part of an overall healthy dietary plan? Or should they be avoided at all costs? Should we avoid added sugars and artificial colors? https://dralo.net/links

I don't eat 100% whole food plant based all of the time, and I've yet to come across anyone who does. Sure, I was raised vegetarian and had a childhood fondness for millet that rivals most kids' love for Fruity Pebbles, but that doesn't mean I'm not human. I savor chocolate, vegan butter, and even fried tofu sometimes. How do I do this without beating myself up about not being perfect? I know that perfection doesn't exist and I stay out of the all-or-nothing mindset. The all-or-nothing mindset usually leads to a downward spiral ending with a box of donuts and letting your kale die a slow, sad death in the fridge. Tune into this episode and learn how to stay out of the all-or-nothing mindset, give yourself grace, embrace your humanness, and enjoy your plant fueled life on your terms. Husband and Wife cover Song of Solomon chapter 4:This chapter contains the man's descriptive poem of the woman's body and the invitation to be together which is accepted by the woman. She has goat hair and sheepy chompers. Her face is like a bowl of Fruity Pebbles. Dem titties tho! And zowie! That yummy vagina-cave with its flowing fountain of aromatic sex-juice!
