Ep. 289: Bobby's World Review

Whether or not you're a child of the 1990s, you can probably appreciate the adorable cuteness of Bobby Generic, the lead character of Bobby's World. It might creep you out a little bit to learn that the Fox Kids' animated series co-creator Howie Mandel wasn't just the voice of dad Howard Generic, but also Bobby as well. (He also voiced Gizmo in the Gremlins movies, so that cutens things up a bit, yeah?) But since we're keeping it creepy, we wanted to revisit the spookiest stories in Bobby's World lore for this special Halloween episode of the podcast. Just how scary did the Minnesota-Nice family get, anyway?Over the course of the Emmy-nominated animated series' seven-season run to syndication, Bobby's World included a couple of Halloween-themed episodes. For this episode of the podcast, we revisited the Season 1 episode "The Night of the Living Pumpkin" and the Season 2 episode "Nightmare on Bobby's Street." I can absolutely recommend revisiting Bobby's World for yourself, especially these holiday-themed episodes, but you'll have to tune in to see if my co-hosts feel the same way!-Support the Show through Patreon:https://www.patreon.com/saturdaymourningcartoons-Special Guest: Tony Lazzeroni!Twitter: @CrwddElvtrhttps://vimeo.com/crowdedelevatorWant to find our cohosts online?Dave Trumborecollider.com/author/dave-trumboreTwitter: https://twitter.com/DrClawMDBuy the book 'The Science of Breaking Bad' - https://mitpress.mit.edu/books/science-breaking-badSean Paul EllisIG and twitter @seanpaulellisPerformer at Washington Improv Theater where you can find tickets and times. The Bureau podcast: https://tunein.com/podcasts/Comedy-Podcasts/The-Bureau-p1290704/If you are digging our show and want to help you out, then you can do so in the following ways:1. Arriving on DVD and Digital tomorrow, October 6, 2020, and just in time for Halloween, it's Warner Bros. Home Entertainment's Happy Halloween, Scooby-Doo! I had a chance to sit down with writer/director/producer Maxwell Atoms (The Grim Adventures of Billy & Mandy) to chat about the latest holiday special for Mystery Inc. This flick features guest stars Bill Nye the Science Guy and Elvira, Mistress of the Dark along with the sleuth crew you know and love, but keep an eye out for some special guests along the way. Atoms and I talked about how he came to be on this project, his history with Scooby-Doo and notable voice acting legends Frank Welker and Grey Griffin. Plus, Atoms revealed the unplanned but not-so-surprising connection to his Halloween work on his hit show The Grim Adventures of Billy & Mandy and this new Halloween special; fans of Atoms' cartoon should spot it pretty quickly. But we also talked about some of the surprising crossover characters from the wider Warner Bros. universe who show up and how they fit perfectly into the story.- Support the Show through Patreon: https://www.patreon.com/saturdaymourningcartoons - Want to find our cohosts online? #SugarAndToys: Carl Jones & Brian Ash on Season 2, 'The Boondocks', and Black Animation

Saturday Mourning Cartoons

Play Episode Listen Later Sep 26, 2020 45:02

Fifteen years ago, The Boondocks changed the course of modern animation by not only featuring Black characters as the leads, but by being absolutely unapologetic in its content. That boundary-pushing show gained its own following along with a fair share of backlash, all of which is now par for the course for executive producer Carl Jones and producer Brian Ash. They've had celebrities like Oprah and Tyler Perry take issue with (and aim at) The Boondocks, just as they've had Adult Swim axe an episode before it was ever animated and HBO Max fully removing a previously aired episode from their listing. Censorship and button-pushing isn't new to Jones and Ash. Their newest animated series, Sugar and Toys, is cut from the same cloth, and the razor-sharp humor and laugh-out-loud variety sketches cut across all social, cultural, and political divides. It's first and foremost good comedy, but it's also another step in the rise of Black Animation. I had a chance to chat with Jones and Ash about Season 2 of Sugar and Toys, now on Fuse, in a lengthy conversation about everything from COVID-19, standards & practices, The Boondocks reboot, and Jones' upcoming collaborations with Matthew Cherry for his Hair Love series, and the likes of Seth MacFarlane, Steph Curry, and Norman Lear for an animated reboot of the classic sitcom Good Times. We talked about all of that and more in an honest and open conversation, which you can listen to above or read highlights of below. Sugar and Toys is a mash-up of Saturday morning cartoons (which is fitting for this particular podcast), social commentary and music culture parody. Season 2 of the Sunday night series "brings a wild new twist on the Saturday morning cartoons we all grew up with – but a whole lot less innocent. Bookended by host and multi-platinum rapper and actor KYLE (Netflix’s The After Party, www.superduperkyle.com), it's executive produced by Aengus James, Colin King Miller, Jordan Allen-Dutton, Jones and Ash, with Kyle Harvey serving as co-executive producer, and produced by This is Just a Test and 245 Enterprises. - Support the Show through Patreon: https://www.patreon.com/saturdaymourningcartoons - Want to find our cohosts online? It's back to the park we go in this week's cartoon review with Jurassic World: Camp Cretaceous. The new Dreamworks Animation series, now streaming on Netflix, takes a different approach to storytelling for the continuation of the late Michael Crichton's phenomenal franchise, powered by Universal. Rather than focusing on an elite team of adult trainers, scientists, and covert spies, this version makes their characters a little more kid-friendly ... even if the carnivorous dinosaurs and rampaging giants are as dangerous as ever. But how does the new animated series compare to the story we know so far? Tune in to find out! Here's the official synopsis: Jurassic World: Camp Cretaceous follows a group of six teenagers chosen for a once-in-a-lifetime experience at a new adventure camp on the opposite side of Isla Nublar. But when dinosaurs wreak havoc across the island, the campers are stranded. Unable to reach the outside world, they’ll need to go from strangers to friends to family if they’re going to survive. Scott Kreamer (Pinky Malinky) and Lane Lueras (Kung Fu Panda: The Paws of Destiny) serve as showrunners and executive producers. The series is executive produced by Steven Spielberg, Frank Marshall, and Colin Trevorrow. Zack Stentz serves as consulting producer. - Support the Show through Patreon: https://www.patreon.com/saturdaymourningcartoons - Want to find our cohosts online? Tonight, a brand new episode of Disney Channel's animated series Big City Greens premieres at 8PM ET/PT, and it's special for a couple of reasons. First, it continues the second season of the Annie and Emmy-nominated series from co-creators and showrunners Chris and Shane Houghton, and second, guest cast members Lorraine Toussaint (Orange Is the New Black) and Colton Dunn (Superstore) return as Rashida and Russell Remington, with Danny Trejo (Machete) back as Vasquez. But even more importantly, this episodes gives one of the cast members a chance to show off their writing skills! If you're new to Big City Greens, the series follows the offbeat adventures of 10-year-old Cricket Green, whose natural curiosity and enthusiasm lead him and his family – older sister Tilly, father Bill and Gramma Alice – on epic journeys and into the hearts of his new neighbors. In the new episode's first segment tonight, titled "Present Tense," Cricket struggles to get the best birthday present for his best friend, Remy. Marieve Herington (awards-nominated voice of Tilly Green) co-wrote this particular episode with her husband, which is a first for her on this series. --- Support the Show through Patreon: https://www.patreon.com/saturdaymourningcartoons - Want to find our cohosts online? If you want to see a bunch of powerful comic book superheroes team up to fend off extraterrestrial threats to our home planet, there's no better place to look than Marvel's Avengers Defenders of the Earth! This 1986 animated series from King Features, with development by Marvel and production from a trio of overseas studios including Toei Animation, united the bigger-than-life heroes of King Features Syndicate. Flash Gordon, Phantom, Mandrake the Magician, and Lothar joined forces to defend Earth (hence the name) from the villainous intents of Ming the Merciless. Helping to fight back for the fate of their planet were the second generation of heroes, including Rick Gordon, Jedda Walker, the adopted son Kshin and his space-alien pet Zuffy, and Lothar "L.J." Junior. While these characters might not be the first that come to mind when thinking about comic book superheroes, they're definitely classics for a reason. We're coming up on their 100th anniversary -- a pretty monumental task for any character, really -- so what better way to celebrate than by watching Defenders of the Earth? Unfortunately, some of the backwards tropes -- racist, misogynist, every other -ist -- is part of the package here. Is it bad enough to dip, or just enough to force us into tough conversations? Glitch Techs Season 2 arrived on Netflix just last week. This new batch of 10 half-hour episodes continues the adventures of glitch-hunters Miko and Five and their all-star team of Hinobi technicians. New relationships will be explored, new insight into families and friends will be revealed, and tons of pop culture and video game Easter eggs will be scattered all over the place, virtual and IRL. But how does Season 2 compare to the fantastic first season released earlier this year? As gamers from a certain generation, there's a lot to love about Glitch Techs. But you don't need to get all the references (we certainly didn't) to enjoy this beautifully animated, wonderfully acted, smartly written, and brilliantly executed animated series. Right now, we're at the end of the current selection of episodes originally ordered into production by Nickelodeon before the show went to Netflix, but there is so much more story to tell, mythology to explore, and mysteries to solve. Glitch Techs deserves at least one more season to continue their story, so be sure to tune in ASAP to make some noise for this fantastic series! - Support the Show through Patreon: https://www.patreon.com/saturdaymourningcartoons - Want to find our cohosts online? Ep. 283: 'Hoops' Review: Is Netflix's Animated Series the Worst New Show of 2020?

Saturday Mourning Cartoons

It's rare that we absolutely shred a cartoon on our weekly animation podcast, but it's also (thankfully) rare that shows like Hoops make it all the way to a finished, widely distributed production. I guess that's the price we play for today's ubiquitous streaming services; little to no standards and practices allows artists to deliver some cutting-edge animation you wouldn't normally get on network, cable, or premium TV, but it also lacks a quality filter. That's where we come in. From Ben Hoffman and featuring the voice talent of Jake Johnson, Hoops centers on a foul-mouthed high school basketball coach who hates everyone around him but manages to hate himself even more. If you're thinking that this could be a BoJack-like series or an animated take on Eastbound & Down, don't; aim much, much lower. While Hoops might -- I say again might -- have been edgy and boundary-pushing back in the late 1990s, its swings at being offensive just for the sake of being offensive miss 100% of the time in the comedy department. Shows like Family Guy, South Park, and their ilk proved that you could be offensive and still be funny; Hoops proves that that's easier said than done. To find out how this show misses the mark in all sorts of ways, you'll have to listen in (but definitely definitely do not watch this thing on Netflix.) - Support the Show through Patreon: https://www.patreon.com/saturdaymourningcartoons - Want to find our cohosts online? This week's cartoon review comes courtesy of a Listener Recommendation, so we're legally obligated to check out Roughnecks: The Starship Troopers Chronicles. With 44 episodes -- 4 of which are clip shows -- this 1999-2000 series tells the story of Rico's Roughnecks, a squad of space-based troops carrying out orders in defense of Earth. It continues the tales laid out in Robert Heinlein's book as well as Paul Verhoeven's '97 movie that started a fan-favorite franchise. But does Roughnecks live up to that pedigree? The computer generated-animated series definitely shows its age 20 years later. CG looks great when it comes to bugs and alien worlds but it's an absolute abomination when it comes to human faces, hair, expressions, and even lip sync. It's a mess. It quite honestly should be thrown back into the Uncanny Valley from whence it came. But is it worthy of being dipped? This week on Saturday Mourning Cartoons, we're fielding a long-standing Listener Request courtesy of Charles from Michigan. What's Charles want us to watch? Basilisk: The Kouga Ninja Scrolls, not to be confused with the follow-up anime Basilisk: The Ouka Ninja Scrolls or even the similarly titled but earlier gateway anime standout Ninja Scroll. You've got to keep your ninja clans and scrolls straight, people. In this 2005 Gonzo-animated adaptation of Fûtarô Yamada's iconic works, the heirs to the Kouga and Iga ninja clans -- Gennosuke and Oboro -- hope that the unsteady truce between their tribes would last. But much like the Romeo and Juliet story this tale takes inspiration from, fate denies the lovers and thrusts their people into war after centuries of peace. The terms are set on two scrolls: One, bearing a list of Kouga warriors, and another that holds a Iga fighters. The names found on these scrolls can only be crossed out in blood... but will Basilisk be worth watching once it's all said and done? Amphibia fans by and large want to know one thing above all: Will Anne Boonchuy ever find her missing shoe? I recently spoke with the show's creator and executive producer Matt Braly about that very fact, along with all things Amphibia ahead of the series' Season 2 premiere, Saturday, July 11th (8:20 p.m. EDT/PDT), on Disney Channel and DisneyNOW. We chatted about how fan reactions from Season 1 led to some interesting changes as Braly and his creative team shaped Season 2 and beyond; Season 3 of Amphibia has already been ordered, after all. We also talked about how the ongoing pandemic forced the team to stay flexible in order to bring more episodes to fans around the world as quickly as possible, all while maintaining the high standards we've come to know and love from Disney and Amphibia. Plus, while Season 2 will feature some absolutely incredible multi-part episodes that further explore the fantasy world, it'll also include some unexpected guest stars, like the one-and-only Kermit the Frog. All that and more can be found in our interview listed above! As a refresher for Amphibia, when Season 2 picks up, Anne and the Plantars are on a quest to unlock the mysteries of the music box as they leave the cozy confines of Wartwood for the distant city of Newtopia. On their journey, they will visit exotic new locations, uncover hidden secrets and experience unexpected reunions as they continue to search for a way to get Anne home. The new season will include an homage to Disney's hit Gravity Falls, featuring guest voices from the series' creator/executive producer Alex Hirsch.- Support the Show through Patreon: https://www.patreon.com/saturdaymourningcartoons - Want to find our cohosts online? Hulu's original animated series Solar Opposites has quickly become a hit for the streaming platform. From the creators behind Rick and Morty, this animated sitcom focuses on a family of aliens who crashland on Earth with the intention of terraforming it. But when they start to understand what makes humans special and unique, they might just learn to love the backward bipedal terrestrials. Probably not though. What'll probably happen is either the shrunken humans trapped in the Wall will revolt and find a way to take vengeance against their alien captor, or the Pupa will achieve its ultimate purpose and destroy the Earth as we know it. Maybe both will happen. Maybe neither. All we know is, we hope that Justin Roiland and Mike McMahan have an endgame in mind so that Solar Opposites doesn't try to milk its genuinely funny premise until the inevitable heat death of the universe. You've probably heard of Samurai Jack and Dexter's Laboratory, and if you're a Genndy Tartakovsky fan, you know all about Star Wars: Clone Wars, Primal and Hotel Transylvania, too. But there's a good chance you might have missed out on his 2010 animated Cartoon network series Sym-Bionic Titan. The 20-episodes, one-season series (which is streaming on Netflix now) follows three young alien beings -- Lance, Ilana, and Octus -- who have the ability to combine to form a giant robotic warrior. But when they're not battling giant kaiju, they must attempt to blend into suburbia, all while protecting their new adopted home from the same beings that threatened to destroy their home world. We love Netflix's DreamWorks Animation series Kipo and the Age of Wonderbeasts. We sang its praises when it debuted this January, were happy to see that Season 2 continued to develop its colorful characters and make progressive strides forward in its story, and even talked about that more in our video review. Now, it's my pleasure to get a chance to talk to co-creators/showrunners Bill Wolkoff and Rad Sechrist once again to dig into all things Kipo a little more. Some spoilers follow. This time around, Wolkoff and Sechrist were able to talk about including an openly gay character in their animated series and how exactly that decision came about. The spotlight on healthy relationships of all kinds was further explored in Season 2, which they also comment on in our discussion. Plus, if you had questions about what separates a jaguar from a mega-jaguar, you're in the right place. So while Netflix has yet to officially order Season 3 of Kipo and the Age of Wonderbeasts, Wolkoff and Sechrist tease what might happen in the next batch of episodes. - Support the Show through Patreon: https://www.patreon.com/saturdaymourningcartoons - Want to find our cohosts online?   Kipo and the Age of Wonderbeasts should honestly be on the Top 10 TV Shows on Netflix every day, but especially this weekend. Season 2 of Radford Sechrist and Bill Wolkoff's excellent animated series from Dreamworks Animation just arrived on the streaming service yesterday with a batch of 10 all-new episodes. They continue the story of the title character and her bigger-than-life friends in a colorful, magical, and musical post-apocalyptic world. I already sang the praises of Kipo Season 2 in my written review for Collider, but we dig into it a little bit more in our latest video review here. Following the Season 1 finale, all is not well on the surface. With the burrow people under Scarlemagne’s mind control and her father his prisoner, Kipo must quickly learn to master her newly-discovered mute abilities in order to save them. As she and her friends split up on a dangerous rescue mission, Kipo’s journey of self-discovery unearths mysteries of the past that change everything she thought she knew. We're going Greek -- Ancient Greek, that is -- in this week's nostalgic cartoon review with Ulysses 31. This early 80s animated series aims to retell Homer's epic poem "The Odyssey" set in the far-flung outer space of the 31st century. It's one part Saturday morning cartoon, one part classic literature, and 100% good, old-fashioned animated insanity. Shout-out to our longtime fan, friend, and regular contributor Bobby Anthem for recommending this one! Ulysses 31, a French-Japanese production that hails from DIC Audiovisuel and TMS Entertainment, sees the 31st century Ulysses and his crew attempting to find their way home to Earth after Zeus cursed them for destroying a gigantic robot cyclops. If that logline doesn't get you interested in this series, I don't know what will.   Later today, the Powerhouse Animation cast and crew will be holding another watch-party for their epic, action-packed Mexicanime series Seis Manos. The Saturday Mourning Cartoons team wanted to get in on the Saturday-morning fun, so not only will we be re-watching the Viz Media series on Netflix again (and again and again), we're also bringing you a bit of bonus coverage for it! The creative team behind the kung fu / grindhouse / Blaxploitation mash-up series will take to social media once again to offer episode commentary to fans as they watch, along with never-before-seen content from behind the scenes, intriguing trivia, and more on the show's mythology and lore. And we were lucky enough to sit down with co-creators Brad Graeber and Alvaro Rodriguez, and co-executive producer / writer Daniel Dominguez to get even more insight on Seis Manos. To our surprise, the team revealed that it was Powerhouse's early creation of a fight-focused sizzle reel for Seis Manos that helped them seal the deal to be the animation studio for Castlevania. And it was the success of Castlevania that gave Powerhouse the clout to go ahead with their first original production, Seis Manos. That's just one of the many examples of the fates aligning for the studio in their attempt to bring this incredibly rich, diverse, and uniquely compelling story to folks around the world. Graeber, Rodriguez, and Dominguez were also quick to thank their fanbase who have shown support online, at cons, and through sharing Seis Manos with their friends and followers. We even get a tease for potential sequel seasons and a tip or two on what to do to make sure we get to see more Seis Manos in the future. - Support the Show through Patreon: https://www.patreon.com/saturdaymourningcartoons - Want to find our cohosts online? We here on the Saturday Mourning Cartoons team are getting in on the Saturday-morning fun that the Powerhouse Animation cast and crew is having with Seis Manos. Their weekly watch parties go behind the scenes of the epic, action-packed, original animated Netflix series -- one of the best of 2019 -- to offer up trivia, bonus content, and all sorts of insider info from the actors, animators, and creative talent that brought the Mexicanime to life. One of the major players in the Seis Manos story is Vic Chao, who brings a remarkable performance, balanced between gentleness and strength, to the character and mentor figure Chiu. We had a chance to chat with Vic Chao ahead of this today's new watch party, which was pretty well-timed considering today's pair of episodes are rather important to Chiu's mythology. Chao spoke at length about his experiences on Seis Manos, including his audition for Castlevania that ultimately led to the role of Chiu. Additionally, Chao shared his reaction to his character's fate and confirmed that you might just hear his voice coming out of more than one character's mouth. And speaking of other characters, we touched briefly on Chaos's role as Tseng in the new Final Fantasy VII Remake and his super-secret role on an upcoming Ben 10 storyline. Of course, we also spared some time to talk about life in the age of the ongoing pandemic, at which point Chao encouraged our listeners to donate to your local or national food banks and diaper banks, if you are able to do so. But now, in our continuing series of interviews through our animation-focused podcast Saturday Mourning Cartoons, we chat with Stevenson one last time to break down spoilers from the excellent and emotionally satisfying Season 5. In this all-too-brief conversation, Stevenson talked about the very special tattoo that she and members of the crew got as a memento of their time on the show and what it means within the lore of She-Ra. We also discussed the many complicated relationships between the characters, be they parent-child dynamics, teacher-student pairings, or romantic entanglements. There's a lot of emotional payoff at the end of She-Ra, something that all five seasons have been building towards, but the crowning achievement of all of this strife and drama is the final resolution for CatrAdora, which plays out beautifully in the finale. Another week, another Listener Suggestion. Our cartoon lawyers are FURIOUS! This week's suggestion comes courtesy of Kevin, who wanted us to watch and review 'Salty's Lighthouse', a kids show from the late 1990s that took a bunch of footage from 'Tugs' and added it into its own animated nightmare. The series briefly ran on TLC as part of the network's "Ready Set Learn" programming block. But did we learn anything from reviewing this show, or did we simply run as far away as possible? We're revisiting 'MEGAS XLR', an early 2000s animated mecha series created by Jody Schaeffer and George Krstic. The action-packed animation on this comedy show that takes aim at all kinds of anime trope came courtesy of Cartoon Network Studios, Titmouse animation, and Sunmin Image Pictures. And why are we doing this to ourselves? Well, one, because it's actually a really funny and well-done series, but also because a listener called in to recommend it; our cartoon lawyers say we're legally obligated to cover it. Based on the New York Times bestselling book series by Max Brailler, the fun and lighthearted series 'The Last Kids on Earth' follows Jack Sullivan (Nick Wolfhard) and a band of suburban middle-schoolers living in a decked-out tree house, playing video games, gorging themselves on candy and battling zombies. All-new episodes of the action-packed Atomic Cartoons adaptation, from showrunner Scott Peterson, are now streaming on Netflix. I had a chance to chat with Wolfhard about Season 2 (or Season 1: Part B as it's displayed on Netflix itself) as part of our continuing interview series for Saturday Mourning Cartoons. We talked about the challenges of living in self-isolation and social distancing in the real world while playing a character trying to survive the apocalypse in the fictional one. Wolfhard also shared his thoughts on Jack's growth this season, his questionable taste in food, and all the challenges awaiting Jack and his friends throughout these new episodes. Plus, he gave us a behind-the-scenes account of how he and his brother Finn Wolfhard got involved with the insane animated short Smiling Friends, which they did for Adult Swim. In honor of the new season's arrival, I had a chance to chat with Brallier and Peterson as part of our continuing Saturday Mourning Cartoons interview series, like our related chat with Wolfhard himself. I checked in with the EPs after our previous chat, which came before the launch of The Last Kids on Earth. We talked about how the creative team is dealing with the current quarantine situation and whether or not that affected their writing process for the post-apocalyptic series. Brallier and Peterson also talked about how much the cast of characters has grown in Season 2, both in maturity and by including new voices actors, like Mark Hamill, Rosario Dawson, Catherine O’Hara, Bruce Campbell, and Keith David; all of their antics and more are teased in the following interview.  - Support the Show through Patreon: https://www.patreon.com/saturdaymourningcartoons - Want to find our cohosts online? On this episode of Saturday Mourning Cartoons, we're busy trying to figure out what's been scratching inside our walls for the last few weeks. Turns out, it's a civilization of miniature mouse-like people called The Littles. They totally built a full-on city on our apartment's foundation, complete with tiny furniture, vehicles, and houses of their own. It'd be delightful if it didn't make us question our sanity. So big thanks to Benjamin Schyan for the listener suggestion this week since it staved off our cabin fever for just a little bit longer. The 80s animated series The Littles also boasted a feature-length animated film titled Here Come the Littles. We watched both the movie and the series premiere for this episode, because we're gluttons for punishment we wanted to give Ben the best bang for his buck. It ended up being one of the silliest episodes we've ever made, so we hope you enjoy! - Support the Show through Patreon: https://www.patreon.com/saturdaymourningcartoons - Want to find our cohosts online? In these strange times of coronavirus COVID-19, the Saturday Mourning Cartoons team has turned to a pair of animated pathogen-fighting heroes, 'Ozzy & Drix'! But just who are the title characters? Warner Bros.’ animated movie ‘Osmosis Jones’ came out in 2001 from the Farrelly Bros, and featured a live-action Bill Murray, with Chris Rock voicing the title character and David Hyde Pierce voicing Drix; Laurence Fishburne played the big bad in Thrax. Then, in 2002, ‘Ozzy & Drix’ arrived from Warner Bros. Animation on Kids WB (and later Cartoon Network) with Phil LaMarr and Jeff Bennett now voicing the title roles. How does it hold up? Need a break from coronavirus craziness? Then take a trip with the Saturday Mourning Cartoons team as we head back in time to the prehistoric era to visit the 'Valley of the Dinosaurs'! This Hanna-Barbera cartoon is but the latest in our long line of dinosaur-themed animated series (though there are probably still many more out there for us to tackle). It also has a curious tie into the popular live-action series Land of the Lost: Not only do the cartoon and the TV show have an almost identical premise in common, they both premiered on the exact same day (but two different networks) back in 1974. Does it hold up today? You'll have to listen in to find out for sure, but 'Valley of the Dinosaurs' did deliver a surprisingly solid action-adventure story, which is a rare find these days.   - Support the Show through Patreon: https://www.patreon.com/saturdaymourningcartoons - Want to find our cohosts online?
