This episode we are covering the 1993 blockbuster Jurassic Park! Of course we talk about our favourite dinosaurs, but we also discuss the movie's multi-genre approach to the blockbuster, the casting choices, the ethics of genetic manipulation, bare-chested Jeff Goldblum, and more! I Love This You Should Too is hosted by Samantha & Indy Randhawa Jurassic Park is a 1993 American science fiction action film directed by Steven Spielberg, produced by Kathleen Kennedy and Gerald R. Molen, and starring Sam Neill, Laura Dern, Jeff Goldblum, and Richard Attenborough. It is the first installment in the Jurassic Park franchise, and the first film in the original Jurassic Park trilogy, and is based on Michael Crichton's 1990 novel of the same name, with a screenplay by Crichton and David Koepp. The film is set on the fictional island of Isla Nublar, off Central America's Pacific Coast near Costa Rica, where a wealthy businessman John Hammond (Attenborough), and a team of genetic scientists have created a wildlife park of de-extinct dinosaurs. When industrial sabotage leads to a catastrophic shutdown of the park's power facilities and security precautions, a small group of visitors, including Hammond's grandchildren, struggle to survive and escape the now perilous island.
Indy loves Donald Glover's poignant, surrealist, dark comedy series Atlanta, Samantha recommends The Things We Leave Unfinished, an emotional multi-generational novel by Rebecca Yarros, and we preview next week's big watch the seminal childhood summer blockbuster Jurassic Park! I Love This You Should Too is hosted by Samantha & Indy Randhawa Atlanta is an American comedy-drama television series created by Donald Glover. The series follows college dropout and music manager Earnest "Earn" Marks (Glover) and rapper Alfred "Paper Boi" Miles (Brian Tyree Henry) as they navigate a strange, seemingly otherworldly Atlanta hip hop scene. Atlanta also stars LaKeith Stanfield as Darius, Earn and Alfred's eccentric friend, and Zazie Beetz as Vanessa "Van" Kiefer, Earn's on-again-off-again girlfriend and the mother of his daughter. Rebecca Yarros is an American author. She is best known for the Empyrean fantasy book series, which will be adapted into a television series with Amazon; Yarros will serve as a non-writing executive producer. Yarros graduated from Troy University, where she studied European history and English. The Summer of Spielberg continues as Laci and Matt were able to buckle their seatbelts in time for their helicopter to land on Isla Nublar, where they meet up with AJ & Kristie from the In Love With Horror podcast to talk about Jurassic Park (1993). The four team up for a rollicking podcast so good it'll have you shouting “Hello John!” at total strangers. First of all, this famous action/horror/sci-fi/disaster epic has like 50 incredible lines of dialogue! So we just spend some time saying these lines at each other. But eventually we get into it, talking about the history of Michael Crichton's novel and its adaptation by Steven Spielberg. Then we take a close look at the movie, wondering just how bad of a boss John Hammond must be and what exactly is the nature of his relationship with Ian Malcolm. Also, apparently John Hammond was originally intended to sing a song explaining how Jurassic Park works? Instead they did the Mr. DNA thing, but we would love to hear that song. Who knows... maybe we will. James III (Black Men Can't Jump [In Hollywood] podcast) and William (Bill) DeMeritt (actor and writer) join Flixwatcher to review James' choice Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom. Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom (2018) is the fifth instalment in the Jurassic Park film series. Directed by J. A. (The Impossible) Bayona, Fallen Kingdom sees Chris Pratt, Bryce Dallas Howard, BD Wong, and Jeff Goldblum reprise their roles from the previous films. Dinosaurs are facing extinction (again) due to volcanic eruption on Isla Nublar. Dr. Ian Malcolm (Goldblum) testifies that the dinosaurs should be left to perish. However, John Hammond's former partner Sir Benjamin Lockwood (James Cromwell) has other ideas and wants to clone the remaining dinosaurs under the guise of rescuing them. Cue Claire (Dallas Howard) recruiting former Velociraptor trainer Grady (Pratt) to help capture the last surviving Velociraptor. As with all the Jurassic Park films, wherever there are dinosaurs, things never go to plan. Despite there being more dinosaurs and more action Fallen Kingdom fails to match or even come close to being as good as Jurassic Park. Recommendability scores for Fallen Kingdom were not very high. Repeat viewing scores were helped a little by James having seen it five times at the cinema and slightly higher engagement scores give an overall rating of 3.34. I've homebrewed an expansion for my favourite legacy game - using as many of the previous bits as possible! Highlights include: - Pat ate a sheep's head - Why wouldn't you have all the dinosaurs? - Have I unbalanced the game? Does it matter? - Sometimes you visit Jurassic Park and it's fun. Sometimes though, people die - Listen up, Prospero Hall! - Maybe needs some budget?

As everyone's aware the Mattel crowdfunding campaign failed to reach its goals. Say what you want about how it was handled, but it did give us a glimpse at a figure we really need made and that's the Hammond collection male Trex. It's time for Bad Movie Night, so let's look at a film that completed 6 films, but divided critics and audiences very sharply. Is it REALLY a bad movie? Let's discuss Jurassic World Dominion Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard are joined by Laura Dern, Jeff Goldblum and Sam Neill in Jurassic World Dominion, a bold, timely and breathtaking new adventure that spans the globe. From Jurassic World architect and director Colin Trevorrow, Dominion takes place four years after Isla Nublar has been destroyed. Dinosaurs now live--and hunt--alongside humans all over the world. This fragile balance will reshape the future and determine, once and for all, whether human beings are to remain the apex predators on a planet they now share with history's most fearsome creatures. The Text: This week's text is Under Control, spanning from pages 369 – 379. Synopsis: Things are back under control. The computer's functioning properly, the Visitor Center and Safari Lodge are secure, there aren't any dinosaurs in the norther sector, and the authorities are on their way. Even the air-conditioning is working again! And a medic is coming for Malcolm. The carnage has been measured: out of 24 people on the island, eight were dead and six were missing (p. 269). The National Guard is on its way – and the Costa Rican guard is surely speaking with Washington D.C., to discuss what these Americans are doing out on Isla Nublar. This international conversation may be slowing down the medical response, the novel suggests (p. 369). Grant recruits Muldoon, Sattler and Gennaro to investigate the velociraptor nests, to inspect them and estimate how many animals have been born in Jurassic Park. Before they go, they discover a secret bunker at the maintenance shed equipping them with nerve gas for defense against the raptors. They travel to the southern fields and follow a juvenile velociraptor to the nest. Discussions surround: The Dinosaurs, Equilibrium, Shipping News, Damned Gennaro, Timeline, Contrivances in Plot, and Big Questions. Corrections: I incorrectly correlated “rediscovered” animals with cryptid animals – they are categorically different. A rediscovered animal would be a known animal, if from nothing else, at least fossil evidence – cryptids on the other hand, are known anecdotally or only by witness accounts – not from verified evidence. So – that was not a correct line of thought, though I'm glad we were able to talk a bit about cryptids! Side effects: May cause you to lose all your money to ₡hupacabraTM. Deep in the Pacific Ocean, 350 miles off the coast of Central America sits a small, unimposing island, surrounded in natural beauty. One of the island's lesser known claims to fame is that its tropical climate and lost-world appearance were the original inspiration for Jurassic Park's fictional Isla Nublar. Better known, however, are the myths and legends that pertain to the hoards of pirate treasure, buried beneath the surface and lost for over two centuries. Hundreds, if not thousands, of expeditions have sailed to its isolated shores in the hope of uncovering the untold riches, with little to show for their efforts but the wild stories that have helped to continue the legend of the Lost Treasure of Lima for over two hundred years. This week I was lost in time. Julius and family picked up my slack and took an anachronistic look at a Jurrasic Park legacy game Jurassic World: The Legacy of Isla Nublar. It sounds like a fun family experience and a good solo game. Jurassic World: The Legacy of Isla Nublar (BGG) Warning: there are spoilers sprinkled throughout this episode.
On today's episode, we're heading down to Isla Nublar to go check out this new park that some weird scientist is trying to open. Turns out, there's dinos afoot!! On today's episode, we're heading over to Jurassic Park (1993). This movie was written by Michael Crichton and David Koepp and directed by Steven Spielberg. This movie stars Sam Neil (Possession, Event Horizon), Laura Dern (Blue Velvet, Marriage Story), Jeff Goldblum (The Fly, Independence Day), Wayne Knight (Seinfeld, Dirty Dancing), and Richard Attenborough (Miracle on 34th Street, Doctor Dolittle... from 1967)I'm joined on this episode by a long time friend of mine (and fan of the pod), Barbie Stender. Me and Barbie talk about her history with this film (and the series as a whole), and also get to talk to her about being a mom and being able to pass this down to her kids (who also enjoy this film). I love to get movie fans on and get to talk with them, and Barbie was a fabulous guest! This movie doesn't need a fucking intro. You know what it is!! We watched Jurassic Park and were treated to one of the best movies ever made! @dgoebel00 on Instagram provided this amazing artwork. Follow him and check out his website https://youtu.be/lc0UehYemQA Synopsis As a theme park nears it's public go-live date, a team or scientists comprised of Grant (Sam Neill), Ellie (Laura Dern), and Malcom (Jeff Goldblum) are assembled to assess concerns that the park might fly in the face of nature and God. Hammond (Richard Attenborough), the park owner and dream catcher believes in his creation with such veracity that he sends his own grandchildren on the guided tour along with the crew of scientists to tour the park. Despite knowing full well that a tropical storm is approaching the island Hammond gives the go-ahead to start the tour and sends his first test subjects into the fold of Jurassic Park. Surprisingly, things do not go well even though they've thought of and prepared for all possible contingencies, because, “Life uhhh, finds a way.” Everyone gets more dino DNA than they bargained for. Review Jurassic Park is one of the most important movies ever made. Every part of it is unique and interesting. The movie is based on a book by Michael Crichton, who I believe stole the idea from another book series called Dinosaur World. We will talk about that in the spoilers section of the podcast. Directed by Steven Spielberg, and with 6 minutes of computer animated special effects by Industrial Lights and Magic, Jurassic Park rocked the world upon its release. People had never seen such convincing special effects. The fact that the computer effects were married with nine minutes of animatronic effects of dinosaurs had everyone on their heels. It was hard to tell what was real and what was computer generated. Watch Jurassic ParkBuy or Rent on AmazonClick here to Rent or Buy Apart from the spectacle of the VFX, Jurassic Park presents a smorgasbord of amazing set pieces and tense scenarios that takes you out of your chair and transports you to Isla Nublar, off the coast of Costa Rica. It doesn't have one bad guy, it has tons! Some with huge teeth, other can spit toxic goop in your face, and one has an obsession with the “Magic word”. More than anything it plays on man's return to the forest primeval, a place where we are no longer in control at the top of the food chain. Jurassic Park asks the question, “Is science inherently good?” and answers it with, “Science is only a tool, it's up to those who wield it to use good judgment and many times they don't..” The John Williams score is as iconic as, well, other Steve Spielberg movies with world class scores like Jaws. This is a perfect movie. Score 11/10

Dhirendra is an accomplished actor whose career spans all manner of characters and genres and continents. To contemporary audiences, Dhirendra might be best known as Imran, Sabi's father on the groundbreaking and big-hearted CBC and HBO Max comedy Sort Of. Sort Of is one of the few series in the history of television with a gender fluid protagonist: Sabi Mehboob, played with courage and conviction by series creator Bilal Baig. Imran arrives from Dubai at the beginning of the second season to quote-unquote fix Sabi. It's a role that could have easily been thankless and one-note: a villain with no empathy and nowhere to grow. But between the writing and Dhirendra's nuanced performance, Imran is an avatar for many parents who love their kids even when they don't understand them at all. Dhirendra's lengthy list of credits includes The Bill, Casualty, Deadly Class, Da Vinci's Inquest, Lego Jurassic World: The Legend of Isla Nublar, and the title character in the groundbreaking Jinnah: On Crime series about a brilliant crime reporter at a Vancouver newspaper. Dhirendra is also a foodie, a world traveller, a family man, a union man, and lover of stories. Join Dhirendra and Sabrina as they journey 'round the world and delve into Dhirendra's wildly fascinating filmography, philosophy, and life. Episode Sponsor: UBCP/ACTRA

Universal Studios decided it wasn't done with Isla Nublar or Jurassic Park and hired director Colin Trevorrow to helm the franchise's fourth film. Although this sequel ignores parts 2 and 3 and is considered a soft reboot, whatever that means. This time around we've got a whole new cast of characters. In fact, we've got whole new dinosaurs, including one that was genetically engineered: The Indominus Rex. Was this sequel necessary? Is it any good? This 5th entry in the Jurassic franchise sets the story following the closure of Jurassic World, where its dormant volcano, Mt. Sibo, has become active, threatening all life on Isla Nublar. Humankind debates whether the clone dinosaurs should be saved or return to extinction. Claire Dearing (Bryce Dallas Howard) has become a conservationist advocate for the Dinosaur Protection Group, feeling an overwhelming responsibility to save the dinos she once considered merely a commodity. After John Hammond's billionaire associate Benjamin Lockwood (James Cromwell) is on his deathbed, his assistant, Eli Mills (Rafe Spall), pitches a plan to Claire to fund the relocation of the dinosaurs from Isla Nublar to a sanctuary island. Claire gathers a team including velociraptor whisperer Owen Grady (Chris Pratt), super-hacker Franklin Webb (Justice Smith), and paleo-veterinarian Zia Rodriguez (Daniela Pineda). The team is stunned to discover find mercenaries on the island gathering dinosaurs to bring to the mainland for greedy, nefarious purposes.

Director: Colin Trevorrow Screenwriter: Colin Trevorrow, Emily Carmichael, Derek Connolly Starring: Chris Pratt, Bryce Dallas Howard, Laura Dern, Sam Neill, Jeff Goldblum, DeWanda Wise, Mamoudou Athie Runtime: 2 hour 26 minutes Synopsis: Four years after the destruction of Isla Nublar, dinosaurs now live--and hunt--alongside humans all over the world. This fragile balance will reshape the future and determine, once and for all, whether human beings are to remain the apex predators on a planet they now share with history's most fearsome creatures in a new Era. The 1993 Jurassic Park was a classic. It revolutionize the blend of CGI and practical effects. It had a story based in science that . Unfortunately after the success of that movie, the franchise had been nothing more than expensive tech demos. That's especially true of the Jurassic World trilogy of films with each one getting progressively worse. These films are ridiculous. Utterly ridiculous with things that make absolutely no sense. Like how did large dinosaurs repopulate the entire world after a handful escaped an auction in the last film? Look, we get it. Sometimes ridiculous nonsense films are enjoyable (Hi Fast & Furious series). But it's really hard to turn your brain off for a ridiculous film that doesn't think it's ridiculous. Director Colin Trevorrow is no doubt trying to make a serious film with a coherent storyline which makes the ridiculousness of this film not a feature but clearly a bug. Look, if folks just want to see some dinosaurs then that's fine. You could cut out the few and far between horror-like scenes and put them on Youtube and get your fix. When the film does that, it works. The problem is, it's full of humans your don't care about in a story that doesn't make any sense. That's par for the course at this point. What makes Jurassic World Dominion even more egregious is the blatant and heavy handed nostalgia scenes it goes for. There are times when this film will have a character from the original Jurassic Park say or do something exactly like they did it in that movie but it doesn't land because it's such a hollow attempt. Jurassic World Dominion is the Matrix Resurrections of Jurassic Park films. This is a series that should die and not be brought back. Like what you hear? Subscribe so you don't miss an episode!
