To kick off our summer of cats, Jordan and Marc go back to an old favorite, the 90s Kids WB favorite Sylvester and Tweety Mysteries, for two different episodes from their first season, 'The Cat Who Knew Too Much' and 'A Ticket to Crime'. We've discussed at length the issues of doing both a Murder She Wrote pastiche and a load of Sylvester and Tweety gags in one 22 minute episode, but does this tug and overflow threaten to derail the show for us, or do we still value the laughs over the issues? And how exactly did Granny get those beads anyway?Links:Jonathan's GoFundMeSupport us on PatreonFollow us on TwitterFollow us on BlueskyFollow us on Instagram

Today, we look at a day in the life of an author. Get some writing tips, look at the writing process and share some great ideas. You might know today's guest as the author of such books as Derek Dool series, Alien Zoo, Kick it to Nick, Co-author of Little Legends and the picture book author of Stop the Dad Jokes and The Unfunny Bunny. Or you might know him as a TV Producer who has worked on such shows as The Logies, Carols by Candlelight, Prank Patrol, and Kids WB. But what you might not know is, he's a spy! That's right. And, he's written all about it in his new book, Furball. Okay, he's not really the spy, but he's written about someone who is and that someone is Furball, Sid Furball. And, to tell us all about it and share his author journey with us, it's Adrian Beck.

Artist, Animator & Writer Doug Rice joins us on Splash Pages to talk about his amazing career from Dynamo Joe, to Animaniacs. We also look at the the Plastic Man mini-series from 1988. In terms of any skills or abilities, he is completely self-taught…though he does NOT recommend that path for most would-be artists. In the early 1970's, when the old 4-color comics process was hours away from techno-extinction, Rice was hired to work as the one-man production staff of a small new company in Chicago called FIRST COMICS. Some months later his studio duties were expanded to include an original comics title, DYNAMO JOE, a giant-robot series which he created and penciled. From there Doug went off in many other directions as a freelancer: STARBLAZERS (for Comico), PLASTIC MAN and MANHUNTER (for DC Comics), TOXIC AVENGER and WHAT THE--?! (for Marvel), ROGER RABBIT (for Disney Comics), TALES OF THE TMNT (for Mirage Comics), and STUPID (for Image Comics), among others. It was in 1993 that Rice changed careers and got into TV animation – again, with no formal training at all. Startoons Studio in the south suburbs of Chicago was a beehive of activity for Warner Bros. weekday programming, which found Doug storyboarding and doing background layouts for “Steven Spielberg presents The Animaniacs” which, in turn, led to him being handed an Emmy certificate and ‘letter-of-congratulations' from the head of KidsWB animation a little over two years after he started. After the studio folded in the summer of 2001, Rice began work on a two-fisted/pulp-style adventure novel, as a sort of hobby between freelance jobs. The book, SQUADRON, is currently in publication in soft and hard volumes designed by the author. Since 2013, Doug has been teaching animation-related classes as a part-time professor at Columbia College of the Arts in Chicago because, even though he never graduated from the University of Illinois Chicago Circle, his Emmy honor counts for a professorship at Columbia. This episode focuses on the first Space Jam spin-off, Spy Jam, starring Jackie Chan. Mr. Multiverse joined me once again so that we could recap and review the bizarre events of this 2002 film, including many cartoon cameos, product placement, and very meta moments. Give this a listen! Show Notes: 1:40 - Check out the Space Jam 2 episode. 4:20 - I read up to #20 in the series. After this is the crossover with The Flash titled "The Button." 6:20 - Turns out I actually read Wytches Vol. 1 four years ago and found the art reminiscent of the Arkham Asylum comic. 8:50 - Here's that Michael Jordan meme. 10:50 - Kids WB was the name of the block. 12:05 - Oof. This gave me a brief flashback to the Can of Worms from season 1. 13:40 - Check out the No Time to Die episode. 17:40 - Check out the Godzilla vs. Kong episode. 18:00 - The Iron Mask Wikipedia article. 20:00 - It was called Secret Agent Clank. There was even a PSP game of the same name later on. 21:35 - Cartoon Network City 21:40 - Miguzzi 22:55 - "Pokémon Johto" 23:40 - Toonami 26:10 - The podcast was ComicPop. No idea which episode it was. 27:15 - All Gravity Falls references in Howard the Duck 28:10 - "Halloween Night at the Museum" was the title of the Ultimate Spider-Man crossover with Jessie. 31:15 - What a jab. The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen was a 20th Century Fox film. 31:50 - Actually, I also sometimes watched Code Lyoko on Miguzzi. 42:15 - Dokken - Dream Warriors (Official Music Video) 49:15 - Here's that moment from the live-action The Cat in the Hat. 49:55 - Wayne's World Product Placement 1:00:40 - FoxBox was the name of the block. 1:01:54 - Check out the episode on Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. 1:02:15 - This Is Where I Watched My Parents Die, Raphael 1:03:51 - Mr. Multiverse's "Don't sing" sounds suspiciously similar to the umpire telling Michael Jordan "Don't swing" in the first Space Jam. In 1993, no one knew that Tress MacNeille, Rob Paulsen and Jess Harnell would bring to life, the three characters of Yakko, Wakko and Dot in the as the Warner Bros. siblings and create a legacy that surpassed their initial 99 episode run. Tress MacNeille spoke with us about the return of The Animaniacs on their new home at Hulu, being the foundational series of the Kids WB line up in the early 1990s and how a show that lasted five seasons retained a 27 year legacy. MacNeille who was also the voice of Babs Bunny on Tiny Toons Adventures, which created the Kids WB line up, talks about here career, how Dot never went away because of all the conventions, table reads and sing-alongs at these events and remaining close friends with Paulsen, Harnell and Maurice LaMarche after all these years. We even discuss what story time in the MacNeille household looked like growing up, especially with her having a large family and how one of the greatest advantages of being a voice over artist and actor is that at some point you never have to grow older than 35. Official Synopsis: They’re back! The Warner brothers, Yakko and Wakko, and the Warner sister Dot, have a great time wreaking havoc and mayhem in the lives of everyone they meet. After returning to their beloved home, the Warner Bros. water tower, the siblings waste no time in causing chaos and comic confusion as they run loose through the studio, turning the world into their personal playground. Joining Yakko, Wakko and Dot, fan-favorite characters Pinky and the Brain also return to continue their quest for world domination. The Animaniacs return to the animation world and begins streaming on Hulu, today, Friday, November 2020. The Anniversary Brothers Podcast: Jackie Chan Adventures Series Finale 15th Anniversary Senior Writer Aaron Sarnecky and Senior Columnist Josh Sarnecky recently sat down to discuss Jackie Chan Adventures for the 15th anniversary of its series finale. Jackie Chan Adventures ran for five seasons on Kids WB, from September 9, 2000 to July 8, 2005. The cartoon stars James Sie as Jackie Chan, an archeologist whose personality and fighting style is based on the famed martial artist. Throughout the show Jackie helps Captain Black (Clancy Brown) and Section 13 keep dangerous magical artifacts out of the wrong hands. Aiding Jackie is his niece Jade (Stacie Chan), his uncle (Sab Shimono), and Uncle’s apprentice, Tohru (Noah Nelson). In the series finale, Jackie and his friends must prevent the demon Drago (Michael Rosenbaum) from taking over the world. Aaron and Josh talk about the show’s relation to the real Jackie Chan, if the series finale wraps up everything in a satisfying way, and how Saturday morning cartoons have largely disappeared. For Josh and Aaron’s previous TV podcast, you can listen to them talk about the Lost series finale. Jackie Chan Adventures is available on Amazon Prime Video. --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app

Join Scott, Shawn and Jonah as they take a look back at one of the most sharp and irreverent cartoons of the 90's: "Animaniacs"! Listen as they breakdown and review the second episode of the series, featuring Yakko singing a somewhat accurate list of countries in the classic segment "Nations of the World", the Warner brothers (and Warner sister) trying to earn merit badges in Switzerland by selling Kid Scout cookies to a frustrated Albert Einstein in "Cookies For Einstein", and our introduction to two genetically altered lab mice named Pinky and The Brain who attempt to take home prize money on a TV quiz show in "Win Big". They'll talk about the history of the series from a Fox Kids cartoon with Steven Spielberg's backing to a mainstay of Kids WB, and possibly beyond. They'll also point out some of the loving references to old Hollywood, nitpick Yakko's idea of which lands are actually nations, reveal the big secret behind Pinky and The Brain's big scheme, and much, much more! So grab a box of cookies and a cup of Swiss Miss, turn off Wheel of Misfortune and get zany to the max with us! Hellooooooooooo Nurse!!! (And also, Shawn takes a couple of minutes at the end to share his thoughts on Star Trek: Discovery.) This week, after a bit more random Final Fantasy XV talk, John pulls a random topic out by discussing his revisiting of the charmingly unique 2011 open-world title Driver San Francisco, leading to talks about other favorite racing titles among both him and Chris. But that's not what you should listen to this episode for. John's first proper review pick is a childhood favorite of his, the short-lived and semi-obscure mid-90s Kids' WB Spielberg-produced cartoon Freakazoid. Chris revisits the series for the first time in a while and walks away reeling, because there's no better way to describe the show as one of the most unapologetically insane cartoons ever produced. Both hosts give a general overview of the show's recurring elements, standout episodes and jokes, and why they both recommend it despite having overall differing opinions. HUGBEES! Timestamps: 02:29 - Final Fantasy XV latest thoughts (Mild spoilers up to the ending of Chapter 2) 08:32 - Driver San Francisco & general driving game talk 15:19 - Freakazoid review
Elliot and Samantha watch “A Hair of the Dog That Bit You“ from ROAD ROVERS! When the Werewolves of London are howling around your kitchen door, it's up to a horde of heroic humanoid hounds to prove that they're not Team Jacob! Is this the undiscovered gem of the Kids' WB archives, or should this series be smacked on the snout with a rolled-up newspaper? Listen to find out!
Today, Mike and Sammy are joined by their friend Anthony Bowling (@Bowling4Day). They wax nostalgic about the Kids' WB! cartoon Earthworm Jim. This was a cartoon based on the video by the same name that is chock-full of subliminal messages and innuendos from Earthworm Jim (Dan Castellaneta), Professor Monkey-For-A-Head (Charlie Adler), Psy-Crow (Jim Cummings) and many other unique characters. In this Earthworm Jim episodes of The Nostalgianauts, we talk about Mike's rendition of the Earthworm Jim theme song, Japan's letter to President Truman, a reasonable dose of fear, and more! Tying in with the Batman '89 movie episode, the guys close out this chapter with Fox's - later, Kids' WB's - groundbreaking Batman: The Animated Series.
Before Disney XD and Toon Disney… before Kids WB! and Fox Kids… there was the granddaddy of em all: The Disney Afternoon. Jay and illy take a look back at the glory days of that revolving block of shows from its beginnings, straight through to its ultimate demise. Which shows were its greatest strengths? Which ones caused - in our opinion, anyway - the rapid decline? AND, which show was quietly wiped away from the public eye by the powers that be, but desperately needs a revival in this generation? Bryan is MIA this week so it is up to Rodrigo and Stephen to review Thor #1-6, War is Hell: The First Flight of the Phantom Eagle #1, The Foundation #3, and a whole lot more! NEWS 1) Clone Wars Animated Movie and Live-Action Series Rodrigo and Stephen give their takes on the announcements, with Stephen urging openness when it comes to the live action show. Linkage 2) Hulk Trailer Online Rodrigo digs the action, Stephen thinks the trailer gives too much away. 3) Legion of Super-Heroes Ending on Kids' WB! Linkage Review: The Foundation #3 Stephen reviews the third issue of the Foundation from Boom! Studios, and likes it very much. There are still some art issues, and the pacing is a bit slow in places, but when the good parts arrive - look out! Review: War is Hell: The First Flight of the Phantom Eagle Rodrigo take a look at the first issue of Marvel's Phantom Eagle. It certainly isn't the same Phantom Eagle from the Golden and Silver Ages of comics. A gritty look at the first world war and the pilots that flew in it. Review: Pendant Productions Batman: Ace of Detectives Instead of reading comics all day, listeners may want to check out radio dramas with superhero bent. Pendant Productions spins tales of the current incarnation of Batman and company into serialized radio dramas. Stephen and Rodrigo both think the radio dramas need work - especially in the area of voice acting, but true fans might enjoy listening to the two plus years o shows. Linkage QUESTION OF THE WEEK Even with Bryan absent, he still has time to ask the question, Are you a Marvel, or are you a DC? Take the Poll! RODRIGO's WORDS A new segment is introduced this week, where Rodrigo examines common comic terms and the panel gives examples of how it is used. This week's word is RETCON. Review: Thor #1-6 (and 7) The podcasting duo examine the first six issues of Marvel's Thor, pointing out some of their most favorite and least favorite moments from the series. Rodrigo wonders why the host bodies of the Asgardians are all white, Stephen loves the special moments between the Norse gods and the town folk from Oklahoma, and they both think this is a great series that follows the Hero's Journey. They also take a moment to talk about issue #7 and the relationship between Thor and Odin, and how the son must kill the father. Music from this episode comes from Ookla the Mok.
