My guest today is Austin Hopkins is an independent singer-songwriter from the suburbs of Chicago. His distinctive voice gives him a unique mix between country twang and modern pop.  Austin bases his music on real life situations so the listener can really relate to the lyrics. ​ Austin has always loved music since he was a child, but didn't pick up a guitar until he was 23. A single dad at that time, trying to practice and raise his son, he found songwriting an outlet to everyday life and relationship stress. ​ In 2009, Austin entered a contest hosted by a local radio station.  To Austin's surprise, he was selected as one of the finalists. Cory M Coons is a professional independent performer, musician and awardwinning & nominated songwriter. With 30 years of performing and working inmusic, he has beenpassionate about music since his early teens as a guitar player/bassist &vocalist in High School. He began recording his own unique melodies and musicalideas while travelling and performing in a variety of very popular cover bandsthroughout the mid-to-late 90's in both Ontario and the United States, withstints in well known local high-energy acts such as “Heads Or Tales” and “ShakeThe Tree”, as well as the band “U.S”, (in which he toured most of the SouthEastern United States in 1998'). Then later formed his own Classic-Melodic Rockinfluenced namesake “Tycoons”, releasing two independent recordings andperforming throughout Eastern Ontario, Northern NY State, and Quebec in theearly 2000's. The single "Leavin" was released early in 2020, and the followup single "Good Times Gone" was released in June of 2020, from the recent Ep"33.3". Recently, in December 2020, Cory released “Burning Bright at ChristmasTime” on MTS Records. The enchanting blend of acoustic guitar and sleigh bellscaptured the spirit of the holiday, and Coons' melodic sensibilities remainintact with another rootsy release that feels at home next to his finestreleases. “Burning Bright” also featured Coons' (at the time, 6-year-olddaughter) Charleigh, on backing vocals, giving the track a real family touch.Another independent single "Far Away" was released in early 2021, which alsofeatured Charleigh Lynn Coons (now 7) on backing harmonies on the track.Currently his latest single "Freedom Road" drops on Oct 1st. Cory was also named Best Rock Songwriter for “Long Road (Dead Man's Dream)”and Best Americana Artist for “Once Too Many, Twice Not Enough” at the 2018"Radio Music Awards" on The Indie Music Channel, as well as a "World SongwritingAwards Finalist" in 2019 for the single "Would You Stay". Coons released the melodic/roots-rock album "The Long Road Home" in 2018, produced by multi-platinum veteran music producer Ron Nevison, (Heart, Bad Company, Damn Yankees, Survivor, Styx, Night Ranger), along with additional stellar guitar work by musical cohort and engineer Marc D. Muir. The album is currently nominated for "Male Album of The Year" at one of the biggest Independent Award Shows in North America, the 2019 "Josie Music Awards". Cory's influences are a collection of various genres like melodic rock and roots-rock, blended with hints of country-rock. He is a respected freelance guitar instructor in the local St. Lawrence Seaway Valley and at Rock My House Music Centre in Kemptville, ON.
