The Minnesota Twins returned to Target Field tied 1-1 with the Houston Astros in the American League Division Series, but the Twins couldn't get it done at home failing in spectacular fashion losing 9-1. The guys are joined in studio once again by Andrew "Hoges" Hoganson and they work to try and keep their hopes alive in the Twins postseason chances. The boys have trouble finding a silver lining from game 3 and focus their gaze ahead to game 4 and Joe Ryan making his first postseason start of 2023 against a homerun happy Houston lineup. Hoges doesn't want the Twins to pitch to Alvarez, and Dan thinks it's time for Kirilloff to take a seat on the bench in favor of Solano. For the first time this postseason the Minnesota Twins lose a game, falling 6-4 to the Houston Astros in Game 1 of the American League Divisional Series. David and Dan recap the game, which featured a too-little-too-late comeback from the Twins, who squandered some early chances to get to Justin Verlander. They pick apart the way Rocco Baldelli managed the bullpen (though with a mostly favorable review), and they highlight two fielding plays: one by Alex Kirilloff and another by Ryan Jeffers and Carlos Correa. While neither is in panic mode, both David and Dan wonder what the lineup will look like against lefthanded starter Framber Valdez in Game 2, and they make their Puckett's Picks selections with an eye toward the question: Will anyone actually play the whole game? They also question the decision by Toronto's manager to pull former Twins starter Jose Berrios in the fourth inning, and they praise the work of Gray and Carlos Correa in getting a key pick-off at second to end one of the Blue Jays' many scoring chances. It finally happened: The Minnesota Twins used two starters in one game, and it helped them to a comeback win in Game 4 that gave them a series win (3 out of 4) against the visiting Texas Rangers. Hoges fills in for David to discuss the series with Dan, and he has plenty of praise for Royce Lewis, who came through with clutch hits throughout the series. Dan heaps his praise on Dallas Keuchel, who set aside his ego and gave the Twins five key innings in Game 4. They both are impressed with the work of the bullpen (aside from Griffin Jax's Game 3 effort) and they see plenty to like about the hitting, which has turned it around in a big way since the All-Star Break. They also discuss the shenanigans of Game 2, and then they look around the league at news about Shohei Ohtani and Terry Francona. Finally, they look forward to the next series: a three-game showdown against the second-place Cleveland Guardians at Target Field. The Minnesota Twins journeyed across the border to Milwaukee where the Brewers swept the short two-game series. Even with only two games played the boys had much to say, a large portion of which focused on Rocco's bullpen decisions in game one. David predictably gets tossed while being mad at the internet, and Dan believes Kyle Farmer deserves more love than he receives. David gives props to Ryan Jeffers for his efforts in game 2, while Dan feels Michael A. Taylor should show more emotion on the diamond. With their ace on the mound in Game 3 ... er, Game 1 ... er, Game 2 ... the Minnesota Twins win two of three against the visiting Pittsburgh Pirates and the process extend their lead in the AL Central Division to a season-high six games with 12 series left in the regular season. David and Dan discuss the excellent starts by Pablo Lopez, Sonny Gray and Dallas Keuchel, the last of whom was the focus of much dismissal (by these two hosts included) after his last performance for the Twins. David and Dan both have criticisms for Rocco Baldelli's handling of the series, specifically the loss in Game 2. Dan wonders how much the Twins are willing to tinker with the 40-man roster, while David wants to know whether Byron Buxton's eventual return will really include time in center field. The Twins, much to David's disappointment, only take 2 of 3 from the Tigers in Detroit. David had predicted a sweep but still seems in high spirits even after a disappointing series from the Twins offense. Dan comes away with back-to-back victories in Puckett's Picks and can't stop himself from heaping praise upon Royce Lewis. As happy as he is with Royce Lewis, Dan continues to be frustrated with Rocco's unwillingness to look at the statistics before making pinch hitting decisions, and David thinks that Rocco's ejection in game 1 was a more fitting type ejection for someone of Rocco's demeanor. Dan wants to know what we can realistically expect out of Maeda this year, and David is curious if you had to choose to keep either Kepler or Gallo at this point, who would you send away. The boys grade the series and then discuss both the MLB London series and the Angels making a mockery of the Rockies. Joe Ryan's complete game shutout - the Twins' first in more than five years - headlined a memorable couple of wins at the end of Minnesota's four-game series with the visiting Boston Red Sox. Along with the breakout of Byron Buxton, Ryan's performance was a noteworthy, promising way for the Twins to finalize a split in the series and in the 10-game home stand. David, for one, is beyond optimistic that the first-place Twins (still 38-38 on the year) have finally turned a corner. Dan isn't so sure, given the dubious state of Boston's pitching staff. Dan also still has questions for Rocco Baldelli, though he also praises the way he identified "rock bottom" early in the series. David wonders whether Max Kepler has pulled a Jake Cave, and Dan longs for the return of lefty reliever Caleb Thielbar. They also look around the league at a couple recent instances of catchers "blocking the plate" - or so they were deemed. The Minnesota Twins embarrassingly lose 3 out of 4 from the visiting Detroit Tigers. Dan Thompson is in Minnesota and was much more lively in studio then the Twins were on the field. The guys talk through the dismal performances on both sides of the ball for the Twins, and try their best to find little bits of silver lining to the storm clouds, many of which were hovering over Sonny Gray. The boys try their best to make their beast and bench picks, and Dan once again loses his mind over Rocco's management decisions. David wants to know if this is the last we'll see of Louie Varland for a time, while Dan wants to know what's the next step to improve the Twins hitting. First in dramatic fashion and then in a more measured one, the Minnesota Twins take two of two against the rival Milwaukee Brewers in a quick two-game set to start a 10-game home stand at Target Field. David and Dan praise the work of Carlos Correa, whose two big hits in the series -- including his first-career walk-off home run -- were huge factors in the victories. David has lots to say about the bat flip on that homer, while Dan is sure that Brian Anderson is somehow on Max Kepler's secret payroll to make the Twins' outfielder look better out in right. David can hardly contain his love for Donnie "Barrels" Solano and Eddie Julien, while Dan questions how much real consideration Rocco Baldelli gives key decisions like when to pinch hit and what he might want to name his twin children. They also look around the league at the Oakland Athletics' recent winning streak as well as the success of a pair of one-time Twins. David wants Rocco to throw caution to the wind and push Duran to pitch the 8th and 9th inning of close games as the Twins are short on reliable relievers, while Dan appreciated the way Rocco aligned the defense at the end of game 1. Dan, in agreement with Hoges, thinks the Twins should shake things up and bring in a new hitting coach and David thinks it's time to start discussing a contract extension with Michael A. Taylor. The Twins offense was non-existent in the series but the guys try and find the silver lining. Hoges wants to know if it's time for Rocco to blow his top to light a fire under the team, while David appreciates that Rocco has realized runners must be advanced by stealing if the hits aren't coming. Hoges suggests a change in hitting coach may help turn around the Twins offensive struggles, and David takes solace in the solid pitching performances of Pablo Lopez and Pagan. Slavery was a system that pervaded life in the American South, and as historian Stephanie E Jones-Rogers reveals in her book They Were Her Property, women played crucial roles in perpetuating that system. Stephanie is one of the winners of this year's Dan David prize – awarded for outstanding historical scholarship. Here she speaks to Ellie Cawthorne about how white women were directly involved in the trade and ownership of enslaved people, and often used tactics that were just as brutal as those of slave-owning men. Show Sponsor: https://noqreport.com/mpsDespite the various attempts by Hannity et al to cast doubt on Barnette's character, the one argument that seems to be sticking with many conservatives is her electability. Many are basing this on claims that she was embarrassingly defeated in 2020 by a "weak" Democrat. On Thursday's show, he said [emphasis added]:"Kathy Barnett has not gotten any kind of vigorous, rigorous vetting that is now proving to be a massive problem in this race. Here's why... In 2020 she was not a serious candidate in her congressional race she lost to a pretty weak Democrat by 19 points."What Hannity doesn't mention is that the "weak" Democrat was Madeleine Dean, a Democrat incumbent in a very blue district. Compared to Dan David who ran against Dean in 2018, Barnette dramatically outperformed him, getting 48% more votes than David got in his race against Dean two years earlier.Hannity and others are hoping that voters will equate losing in 2020 in a congressional race to a loss in 2022 in a senate race. This is unambiguously false and extremely disingenuous for them to rely on the ignorance of many voters. Her very strong performance in a very blue district is why she would almost certainly win in a statewide senate race. The oldest play in the GOP Establishment's playbook is to say that a conservative's past controversial remarks disqualifies them, that we should go with the "sensible" choice so we can defeat the Democrat. That's what Hannity is doing here. Of course, he was singing a very different tune in 2016 with Donald Trump, who had exponentially more "baggage" from past actions and remarks going into the general election than Kathy Barnette. She has offensive Tweets. Trump had so much more that some said would prevent him from winning, yet here we are.Voters aren't as stupid as Hannity, Democrats, and the GOP Establishment hope. We look at a candidate based on what we perceive they'll be able to do for us. My support for Barnette is based on her ideas, but also based on aspects of Dr. Oz that she does not share.
