#153: Today's Ask the Everygirl question is: "I think I may be demisexual, because while I like the idea of a relationship, I always talk myself out of what I'd need to do to meet people in real life...Any tips on how to meet someone?" Josie is joined by Everygirl editor McKenna Pringle to discuss why dating feels like such a bummer RN, tips to give off "approachable energy," and how to meet people IRL. Josie and McKenna chat about how to find better confidence in dating and why there should be more demisexual rom-coms (Netflix, are you listening?). It is really important to Jes that you know this episode was recorded BEFORE Thanksgiving and that it was supposed to be out BEFORE Thanksgiving, and she's really sorry it's only coming out now on Christmas Eve Eve. Good ol' ADHD and general overwhelm. Also, now that the live event for "Off the Table" has passed, you can still purchase the recording! In this episode, The Daylovers and friend-of-the-pod Chaneé Jackson Kendall sit down to hash out some of the common difficulties and pitfalls polyamorous folks face during the holiday season. They answer 3 listener emails, including one about working through the emotions of your partner missing traditions to be with their new partner, one about navigating the holidays as a hinge, and one about being the new partner entering into an established family's holidays. In this episode of our podcast (now on video!) The Daylovers sit down with their beloved friend and colleague Chaneé Jackson Kendall (online at @ChaneeSpeaks). They talk about what's new with Chaneé's project "Intentional Polyamory", Remodeled Love, and the Nuclear Fusion App. They get into why there's no point to anything and, as always, a reminder that love sucks. I've been waiting so freakin' long to tell y'all that, after 43 years of monogamous marriage, my in-laws (Dr. M's parents), have discovered the joys of swinging...and now they're both big ol' bisexual sluts having the time of their lives—in their 70s! And they sat down with me and my husband in our recording studio and spilled all the tea on their adventures, how they got here, and the expansion and growth it's required. Entre las muchas maneras de vivir la sexualidad, dedicamos este episodio a descubrir un concepto diferente. Aitana y Jesse nos cuentan cómo vive La Ondita una pareja orientada en la Demisexualidad.
When 23-year-old grad student Maddy Kling asked if she could interview Lauren for her project on coming out stories, Lauren jumped at the chance to sit on the other side of the mic! But not only that; the work Maddy was doing sounded so fascinating that Lauren asked if she would come on the podcast to discuss it! Maddy is getting her master's in Dance/Movement Therapy, and her project explores how DMT can help the queer community "by allowing them to tell their coming out stories through dance and movement." Maddy identifies as both bisexual and demisexual, and regarding her own journey, she says that "the most comfortable space I felt being out was dance." Maddy describes the relief she experienced when she finally discovered the demisexual label, and also shares how she lived the bi dream of coming out in a Vans store! Now THAT'S how you embrace a stereotype!Learn more about Dance/Movement Therapy at adta.memberclicks.net/what-is-dancemovement-therapy.
In this episode: Joe finds out Ash is having an affair with Dr. M('s pores), we talk about our journey to get Ash qualified for FMLA as a polyamorous family, and we discuss, in depth, our favorite punctuation. We also talk about what Jes and Joe are individually learning in the world of parenthood right now, and Ash shares what they are learning in the world of polyamory. "Long-time listener, first-time guest" Amanda Slawinski's coming out journey began with a covert kiss behind a purposefully-closed door at the tender age of five...but then didn't pick up again until eighteen years later. Amanda identifies as queer, demisexual, and a "recovering Catholic," so it's no surprise that sex of any kind was NOT discussed in her family home (even the Gilmore Girls were frowned upon). Ironically, though, an unscripted moment during Catholic Mass the Sunday after marriage equality passed in New York ended up becoming a huge turning point in her life. Amanda describes having her first ever queer experience one week before the pandemic hit (timing is everything!), and shares how finding THIS VERY PODCAST during lockdown assisted her on her coming out journey! Lauren and Amanda also discuss what demisexuality means to them, and we relive the adolescent Gay Panic (TM) of worrying that your family will discover you made all your Sims gay!Follow Amanda on Instagram at @yogawithmoo, and hit her up if you're in the NYC area and are interested in yoga or meditation classes! Demisexuality is when someone's attraction to another person is reliant on an emotional connection and a demisexual individual does not experience attraction based on first impressions or physical characteristics. Katie Majka is back on the show to discuss her new book What's Your Vibe? In her new book, she hopes to give more representation to people who identify as demisexual. Her and Natalie talk about the different ways people find themselves attracted to others, how isolating it can be to begin to discover and reflect on your own sexuality, and what it means to be understanding to someone who experiences attraction in a different way than what is perpetuated by media and literature. For Pride Month, they're hoping everyone leaves June with a little more empathy and understanding for others while also living an authentic and true to themselves lifestyle.Follow us at @menivetoleratedpod on Instagram and https://www.patreon.com/menivetoleratedpod on Patreon for bonus content! In this episode, my friend, ace advocate and writer Elle Rose, joins me to hear me tell my story of how I discovered I'm demisexual and on the asexual spectrum. Firstly, I talk about how I discovered what demisexaulity is and began to resonate with this label. I then discuss how once I acknowledged my demisexuality, and looked back at my life and my relationship to my sexuality, how it explained a lot of my experiences, lack of sexual attraction and why I was so different from my peers - and how what I thought was 'usual' wasn't the experience of others. Then I move to explain how this discovery has changed my life, helped my relationships, plutonic and romantic, and helped me find peace with myself.

Today on Tony on the Mic, I sit down with the alphabet kids – that's what I'm calling them. I'm trying to make it a thing. No, Not ABCDEFG, but LGBTQIA+?. I sit with a trans-bisexual and an asexual/pansexual/demisexual. I try to understand, and they try to be patient with this boomer. We talk about labels, are there enough? Are there too many? We talk definitions. We talk about their journey. Also, the difference between sexuality and gender, Asexual versus Demisexual vs pansexual… It was a lot to digest in one sitting, I thank my guests for letting me ask anything and everything that was on my mind. I have a million more questions, so we will have to reschedule, but this was a great jumping off point for me into the new world of gender fluidity and sexuality. You don't have to accept the philosophy or condone or anything, but the underlying theme is just be cool and let people be people. More conversations will only lead to better understanding. So if you ever wondered what the heck people are talking about, but were afraid to ask and afraid of what might show up on your browser history..

In the grand tradition of Sappho, Audre Lorde, and probably Emily Dickinson (just sayin'), the pod finally hosts our first ever lesbian poet! Sofia Fey has always "just gravitated towards terms that felt right," and found reclaiming the word "lesbian" to be important to them. However, it wasn't until years later when they began identifying as non-binary and exclusively using they/them pronouns that they finally felt like they were being seen. In addition to being a non-binary lesbian, Sofia also identifies as demisexual, which gives us the opportunity to delve deeper into demisexuality than we ever have before (get ready for some in-real-time Googling!). All this, plus Sofia graces us with not one, but *two* live poetry readings! YOU WILL FEEL SO CULTURED AFTER THIS EPISODE!Follow Sofia on Twitter and Instagram at @sofiafeycreates, and follow the Luminaries poetry workshop on Twitter at @luminouspoets. Most importantly, read Sofia's poetry and fiction (and find out about their live readings) at http://www.sofiafey.com/! We have a *hilarious* conversation with actor Erica Luttrell (Lost Girl; Salvation; Mayans M.C.), who voices lesbian icon Sapphire on Steven Universe! Back when she was younger, Erica made a point of differentiating between her platonic female crushes (Gillian Anderson) and her non-platonic male crushes (you will genuinely never guess who). But the formative experience of seeing Shakespeare in Love brought up some feelings she could no longer ignore, and kicked off a five-ish year internal struggle with her sexuality. Erica reads some GLORIOUS journal entries from that time in her life, and discusses how she eventually grew to identify as "homoromantic demi-pansexual" (but also just "gay").
