It's been a minute, hasn't it? Andrew and Manu are back on the podcast airwaves for the first since, well, a pandemic began to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the premiere of "Game of Thrones" on HBO. Personal lives have prevented the podcast from returning in full (though we still hope to eventually!), but we had a lot of fun taking 75 minutes to look back on how we first got into "Thrones," and many more topics -- favorite moments, episodes, and castings & characters. We also took some time to discuss how we've reckoned with the most frustrating aspects of the end of the series, and how we hope that audiences don't dismiss so many good memories from the show just because of its conclusion. Not everything's about "sticking the landing." At the end, we look toward the future and all the prequel possibilities in the works, most notably "House of the Dragon," which will come to a Home Box Office near you in 2022. Wherever there be dragons (or even just Westerosi lore), we will follow. Manu has a new Metal Gear Solid podcast, Podcast Sans Frontieres! Manu on the Not a Podcast's "Clash of Kings" finale, Bran VII Manu's Twitter thread of top 30 "Thrones" moments Andrew's baseball writing, and Disney blog that's running through the Disney Animated Classics in order Just because: Jaime fookin' Lannister (since we both love the bath confession scene so much) iTunes link

Hosts Courtney and Emily are joined by film historian and author, J.B.Kaufman, to discuss his book, The Making of Walt Disney’s Fun and Fancy Free. Take a trip back to 1947 for one of Walt Disney’s legendary package films featuring “Bongo” and “Mickey and the Beanstalk”. Both features were in extensive development since the 1930s and changed animators and directors multiple times before becoming the double feature short known today. Package films are not among the most popular Disney Animated Classics, but as J.B. Kaufman demonstrated in his book, a film does not have to be a box office hit to be significant to Disney and animation history. Disney's Animated movies aren't all talking cars and toys. The animated classics going back to Walt Disney's times actually have pretty dark and morbid beginnings. I hope you enjoy this week's Word of the Week: Legends. Some of the happiest Disney Animated Classics come from the darkest, most morbid fairy tales of all time. Follow me down the dark rabbit hole as we explore them!

Happy Thursday, Cassettes! Since Disney introduced the first full-length animated film in 1937, the studio has been at the forefront of animation. But as time went on, more studios began getting attention for their classically animated works. When Disney animation fell into its dark age after the death of Walt Disney, animated films from other studios took the spotlight. Even when Disney was thriving during its Renaissance, these studios marched on and gave audiences alternative animated films with darker stories. This week we decided to look at the 2D animated classics that didn't come from the House of Mouse. In order to do this, we watched as many non-Disney classically animated films as possible and made a list of our top 10 favorite! In the interest of keeping the list to 10 movies, we decided to leave off Studio Ghibli films. We WILL do a Studio Ghibli episode at some point. Until then, here are our top 10 classically animated non-Disney, non-Studio Ghibli movies! Visit https://blackcasediaries.com/ or https://blackcasediaries.wordpress.com/ for our full show notes and sources! Thanks for listening!

BE SURE TO LISTEN TO PART 1 FIRST! The thrilling conclusion! Co-Hosts of The D Cast (https://thedcast.com/) Andy Herndon and Skyler Shuler (of Disney Film Facts) battle to the very end! Categories for this episode: Disney Firsts and Disney Movie First Lines EXPLANATION FOR FULLY CGI MOVIE QUESTION: Sorry about the confusion, I was missing a note during the show taping and here's the deal - Dinosaur was the first film the mainline Disney Animated Classics not to use hand-drawn animation and rely on CGI for all the characters, HOWEVER, the backgrounds are actually live action footage! So the way the question was phrased, Chicken Little should have been the right answer, though Dinosaur is the film most would think of so it was sort of a "gotcha" question. Sorry again! Weddings are tough to plan, and even tougher to execute. A lot of cash is spent on places and services that offer up an easy time on your Big Day, and where there's cash to be had, you can find The Mouse. Today is all about the glamor and unexpected awesomeness of ... Disney Weddings But first ... Jason shaves his beard but leaves his terrible moustache, and everyone in the world lets him know about it. Terrence talks about how he's failing at doing his Bambi review for our Disney Animated Classics reviews, but swears it won't end up in the Drafts folder like Jasons' Fantasia review has. We get a recap from Bev on her recent trip to Disneyland, including her ride of Luigi's Rollicking Roadsters. Terrence has some friends who were looking for a Disney Wedding, and through a series of fortunate events, got the wedding they didn't know they were looking for. We chat with them about not only Disney Weddings in general, but how they got so lucky with their ceremony and reception, and get a few tips for those of you out there who may be interested in your own Disney wedding. Then we bring our pal Jeremy from SpectroRadio back for another segment of SpectroMagic, we do some Disney News, rattle off a Fact of the Show, and that's it. See you in the parks! Very cool touch! The happy couple, surrounded by classic Haunted Mansion vegetation! Check out that centerpiece! The actual suit of armor from the Haunted Mansion!
A true Legend of the Disney Company, Rolly Crump worked on some of the greatest memories of everyone's childhood. He was an animator on Peter Pan and other Disney Animated Classics, helped create The Haunted Mansion and it's a small world (and many other Disneyland and WDW attractions), and has his own window on Main Street U.S.A. Recently, I had the opportunity to talk with Rolly about some of the things he's worked on and his relationship with Walt Disney himself. Rolly is one heck of a storyteller, and I hope you enjoy listening to his stories just as much as I did! Rolly Crump & Jeff Heimbuch's book, “It's Kind of a Cute Story” can be found and purchased on Amazon HERE For more information on Rolly Crump, please head over to rolandcrump.com
Disney has been the crown jewel of animation for decades, providing family after family with countless hours of laughter, heart, and joy. Beginning with Snow White, Walt Disney began a legacy that remains unrivaled, and this week, The Hollywood Outsider celebrates his legacy.
