The unauthorized visitor did not report to the front office and was found with the firearm during his removal from campus. Although there's no evidence of intent to use the gun, possessing firearms on school premises violates state law. The suspect, identified as a former Sequoyah student, wasn't named. Concurrently, first responders attended to a medical emergency on campus. Both incidents occurred outside buildings and didn't disrupt school activities. The Cherokee County School District underscores its commitment to safety and encourages reporting of concerns through its Vector Alert system. STORY 2: Woodstock Man Gets 30 Years in Prison for Child Molestation Romualdo De Pedraza, a Woodstock man, was sentenced to 30 years in prison followed by life probation for aggravated child molestation and cruelty to children. Following a four-day trial, a Cherokee County jury found him guilty. The charges arose from a Cherokee Sheriff's Office investigation prompted by a child under 10 disclosing sexual assault allegations against De Pedraza. A family member's 911 call initiated the investigation. The child provided details during a forensic interview at the Anna Crawford Children's Center. Prosecutors emphasized the importance of the interview in securing justice. District Attorney Susan Treadaway commended the center for providing a safe space for victims. STORY 3: Cherokee County Students Place in State Career and Tech Contest Two Cherokee County School District students achieved statewide recognition at Georgia's Career and Technical Instruction Competition. The contest aimed to foster creative thinking and community engagement among students. STORY 5: Canton Rotary Club Awards Heart for Service Scholarships The Rotary Club of Canton recently awarded college scholarships to six graduating high school seniors from Cherokee County. These scholarships, presented during a ceremony at Canton City Hall, recognize students who demonstrate a commitment to community service and extracurricular involvement. Each recipient received a $1,000 check, a certificate of recognition, and a Rotary pin. The scholarship winners include Eylianis Gomez-Culbert, Jocelyn Alexandra Leal, Karielys “Karie” Rivera Alvarez, Liliana Marie Quintero, John “JT” Marshall Ivers III, and Julian Douglas Noaker. During the late 80's, Capt. Ed Walker was one of my first guides in the fabled tarpon grounds of Homosassa where some of the largest megalops in the world were being caught on flies. Eddie, as I called him then, was much younger than I and possessed an innate ability to find and catch fish that many others couldn't. He was a joy to fish with and we caught some fatties. He was good, very good and his peers recognized his incredible, young talent. Walker would eventually win some of the largest tournaments in Boca Grande, totaling over a half a million dollars in prize money. He was a great innovator and later in his life became very good at catching big grouper and snapper's on flies. He was thinking differently and his curiosity was not limited to that from the surface of a boat. He started chasing fish underwater with spear guns and became so good at it he won the free diving state championship. Today, we'll cover his fascinating life in fishing and his desire to give back through conservation and fish management. We hope you enjoy…

Ed Walker, Vice President, Shared Economy & Mobility, Hub International joined Grayson Brulte on The Road to Autonomy podcast to discuss how technology and autonomous vehicles are reshaping the insurance industry. The conversation begins with Ed discussing the current state of insurance markets for the gig economy. The current environment is a really broad spectrum of winners and losers. – Ed Walker The current environment is having an impact on the consumer as the average auto insurance liability rate has increased of 10% over the last year. This increase is on top of the industry average of 10% all claims filled in 2022 were fraudulent across all the insurance markets. There are more people on the roads without insurance then there has ever been right now in the United States. Underinsured and uninsured motorist coverage which is not provided in every State has become what used to be a consideration on a renewal to an absolute requirement in my opinion. – Ed Walker While in Ed's opinion this an absolute requirement, we are starting to see the trend of bring your own insurance for gig economy workers and individuals who subscribe to a vehicle subscription service. In some cases, these individuals are not properly insured which could potentially have negative ramifications on them personally. When you have a bring your own insurance model, what you have is a subscription model where the car is not owned by the customer. However that customer is going to a personal limes agent or a program in order to get the vehicle insured. – Ed Walker The insurance they purchase might not be perfect, but in their minds it's still insurance and it allows them to drive the vehicle. For those individuals who drive as for a service such as Uber, Lyft, Uber Eats and DoorDash a large portion of their take-home pay goes to insurance premiums. The insurance is costing your operation anywhere between 10 to 40 cents per mile depending on [The] State and the carrier. – Ed Walker With gig economy drivers getting squeezed with rising costs due to inflation and tight insurance markets, the question becomes how long is this model sustainable in it's current form. The economics of the model today are opening the door to a future where ride-sharing services will be primarily operated with autonomous vehicles. I see autonomous vehicles as our ultimate light at the end of the tunnel if these situations do not improve. – Ed Walker The autonomous vehicle and autonomous truck markets are rapidly evolving as companies scale operations across the United States. As these companies scale their operations, the insurance market underwriting operations will continue to evolve. The more we do it, the better, smarter we get at it. The more carriers can make money at it, the more carriers show up, the more competitive the market gets. – Ed Walker Wrapping up the conversation, Ed shares his thoughts on the future of insurance.Follow The Road To Autonomy on Apple PodcastsFollow The Road To Autonomy on LinkedInFollow The Road To Autonomy on TwitterRecorded on Thursday, April 27, 2023See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.

Uncover the hard-hitting spiritual dilemma of "Combining Faith and Works" as we delve into the toughest question of Christianity: where is God in suffering? Today's special guest, Ed Walker shares valuable insights from his time working in war zones to helping homeless people find loving and caring homes in this inspiring episode of What's The Story. Here's a summary of this week's story:How Ed's experience overseas in disaster response and meeting a homeless man in a park led him to start Hope into Action, a movement that partners with churches to provide homes for the homeless, with the aim of reducing re-offending rates. Over 100 churches now run more than 100 houses, making a positive impact in the lives of homeless individuals.Ed discusses his experience working in war zones and the challenge of reconciling the suffering he witnessed with his understanding of God's love. He found that the Bible and books by Philip Yancey gave him the resilience he needed, strengthening his faith.Writing his book, "Reflections from the Scorched Earth," helped Ed process and make sense of his experiences working in war zones and dealing with suffering. He found that accepting the irreconcilable nature of certain situations and holding onto blind faith and submission to God was a source of strength and comfort for him.Sacrifice and denying oneself are important ingredients in the walk of Christians, although sacrifice is not talked about as much in the church these days, possibly because of the commodification of church. Nevertheless, sacrificing for God is healthy and important in the context of deep spiritual understanding and gratitude.Ed's one message would be to have a deep understanding of the gospel where different aspects such as poverty, justice, peace, proclamation, salvation and redemption are all interwoven in our understanding, and to preach good news to all of creation, not just the human race.ABOUT ED:Ed Walker is a seasoned humanitarian with over 10 years of experience in relief and development. He's worked in war zones and disaster-stricken areas across Africa, reaching over 100,000 people affected by conflict and chairing the NGO Steering Committee. Ed is also an accomplished author, having written 'Reflections from the Scorched Earth', a book that sold over 5000 copies.Back in the UK, Ed served as Director of YMCA Client Services before founding the charity Hope into Action. Their mission is to house vulnerable individuals with the help of local churches. Today, Hope into Action has over 100 homes in 20 towns across England and has won several awards, including the Best Christian Social Action Award in 2015 and The Guardian's 'Best Housing Project in the Country' in 2017. Ed's latest book 'A House Built on Love' was published in October 2020, and in June 2022, he was awarded an MBE for his services to homelessness. Ed is a proud husband and father to two daughters and a son.

The phrase “living legend” gets tossed around a lot but there is no better way to describe Ernie Baur, long-time D.C. news and sports director and producer. In this fun and story-filled interview, Andy O. and the 14-time Emmy winning reminisce about the go-go years of local television programming and the diverse personalities that made it so special. Ernie Baur - Emmy Award Winning Producer/Director Born and raised in a Bethesda that has long-since faded from memory among the concrete and steel buildings of today, Ernie attended our Lady of Lourdes until 8th grade. In 9th, grade Ernie attended Good Counsel (hitchhiking to and from the all-boys Catholic school), and ultimately graduated from the co-ed high school right behind his house, Bethesda Chevy Chase. Deciding that more school was not for him (“I went to Montgomery College for about an hour and a half”), Ernie Baur was grilling steaks at the local Bonanza when his first break in broadcasting came as a part time copy boy at Channel 9. His prowess on the football field playing with the station crew team in the local flag football beer league game earned him an invitation for a paid internship. This would be just the beginning of the important role football would play in his life and career. Among the news anchors that Ernie ran copy to in those early years at Channel 9 was Sam Donaldson, who would go on to fame as a dogged reporter covering the White House for ABC. “Donaldson, he was a heart attack waiting to happen. He did everything to the last minute . . . what a character. You know he auditioned once… at channel 7 and we didn't hire him. The opinion of the group was this guy's a jerk and yeah, I'm not gonna argue. He was high maintenance but a great broadcaster. He’d always come up to you and say ‘I'm surrounded by incompetents everyday’.” But it wasn’t just on the news broadcasts where Ernie learned his craft. As stage manager of the Saturday morning Ranger Hal show “I used to run the puppets, Hal did the voices. You get behind the screen and you put your hand up you’re Marvin Monkey, Dr. Fox, Oswald Rabbit.” And, of course, Ernie has a story or two about trying to do the show after a few late nights at The Dancing Crab. While brief, Ernie Baur got his first directing break at Channel 7, working with another DC broadcasting legend Ed Walker on AM Washington, pairing Walker with Ruth Hudgens. But Channel 9 wanted him back and they sent a very special envoy to recruit him. “Fortunately for me…the person that they hired to replace me was awful, so awful to the point that they came back to me and they had Gordon Peterson take me out and say we need to get him back. Jim Snyder was a news director Ben Schneider and John Baker was a producer they're the ones that said ‘Look we gotta get Ernie back okay and whatever it takes and so Gordon got me back.” And it was at Channel 9 the Ernie met Lucille, his wife of 43 years. Of course, one of Ernie Baur’s great contributions to DC broadcasting lore is his work with NFL football and creating “Redskins Sidelines.” But that is not the only “sidelines” Ernie worked – for 15 seasons (and including 6 Super Bowls) Ernie worked as the “glove man” – the sideline guy who wears big orange gloves and indicates timeouts on the field. “Yeah I did it for “The Catch” the famous play in 49er history by Dwight Clark (in the 1982 NFC Championship Game against the Cowboys). I was there for that.” Glenn Brenner, the quick-witted and beloved sportscaster started out as the “third-string” sports anchor on Channel 9 but within a year was the “guy.” And, the rest is history. As the “Warner Wolf Show” morphed into “Redskins Sidelines” once Wolf had left the station. Once Sonny Jurgensen joined “Sidelines”, the format was set and its popularity grew among Redskins fans. Many of the behind-the-scenes stories of “Redskins Sidelines” have passed into Washington broadcasting lore. Sobriety of the hosts and the guests could some...
