The unauthorized visitor did not report to the front office and was found with the firearm during his removal from campus. Although there's no evidence of intent to use the gun, possessing firearms on school premises violates state law. The suspect, identified as a former Sequoyah student, wasn't named. Concurrently, first responders attended to a medical emergency on campus. Both incidents occurred outside buildings and didn't disrupt school activities. The Cherokee County School District underscores its commitment to safety and encourages reporting of concerns through its Vector Alert system. STORY 2: Woodstock Man Gets 30 Years in Prison for Child Molestation Romualdo De Pedraza, a Woodstock man, was sentenced to 30 years in prison followed by life probation for aggravated child molestation and cruelty to children. Following a four-day trial, a Cherokee County jury found him guilty. The charges arose from a Cherokee Sheriff's Office investigation prompted by a child under 10 disclosing sexual assault allegations against De Pedraza. A family member's 911 call initiated the investigation. The child provided details during a forensic interview at the Anna Crawford Children's Center. Prosecutors emphasized the importance of the interview in securing justice. District Attorney Susan Treadaway commended the center for providing a safe space for victims. STORY 3: Cherokee County Students Place in State Career and Tech Contest Two Cherokee County School District students achieved statewide recognition at Georgia's Career and Technical Instruction Competition. The contest aimed to foster creative thinking and community engagement among students. STORY 5: Canton Rotary Club Awards Heart for Service Scholarships The Rotary Club of Canton recently awarded college scholarships to six graduating high school seniors from Cherokee County. These scholarships, presented during a ceremony at Canton City Hall, recognize students who demonstrate a commitment to community service and extracurricular involvement. Each recipient received a $1,000 check, a certificate of recognition, and a Rotary pin. The scholarship winners include Eylianis Gomez-Culbert, Jocelyn Alexandra Leal, Karielys “Karie” Rivera Alvarez, Liliana Marie Quintero, John “JT” Marshall Ivers III, and Julian Douglas Noaker. Commercial: INGLES 5 STORY 6: Georgia Lawmakers Backing New National Scenic Trail Senators Raphael Warnock and Thom Tillis have introduced legislation to conduct a feasibility study for designating the Benton MacKaye Trail as a National Scenic Trail. The trail spans 280 miles from Georgia to Tennessee and North Carolina, named after a conservationist. This initiative aims to preserve natural landscapes, boost rural economies, and enhance mobility for hikers. Warnock emphasizes the bill's significance in protecting the environment for future generations. A companion bill has also been introduced in the House of Representatives by representatives including Lucy McBath and Nikema Williams. During the late 80's, Capt. Ed Walker was one of my first guides in the fabled tarpon grounds of Homosassa where some of the largest megalops in the world were being caught on flies. Eddie, as I called him then, was much younger than I and possessed an innate ability to find and catch fish that many others couldn't. He was a joy to fish with and we caught some fatties. He was good, very good and his peers recognized his incredible, young talent. Walker would eventually win some of the largest tournaments in Boca Grande, totaling over a half a million dollars in prize money. He was a great innovator and later in his life became very good at catching big grouper and snapper's on flies. He was thinking differently and his curiosity was not limited to that from the surface of a boat. He started chasing fish underwater with spear guns and became so good at it he won the free diving state championship. Today, we'll cover his fascinating life in fishing and his desire to give back through conservation and fish management. We hope you enjoy…

Ed Walker, Vice President, Shared Economy & Mobility, Hub International joined Grayson Brulte on The Road to Autonomy podcast to discuss how technology and autonomous vehicles are reshaping the insurance industry. The conversation begins with Ed discussing the current state of insurance markets for the gig economy. The current environment is a really broad spectrum of winners and losers. – Ed Walker The current environment is having an impact on the consumer as the average auto insurance liability rate has increased of 10% over the last year. This increase is on top of the industry average of 10% all claims filled in 2022 were fraudulent across all the insurance markets. There are more people on the roads without insurance then there has ever been right now in the United States. Underinsured and uninsured motorist coverage which is not provided in every State has become what used to be a consideration on a renewal to an absolute requirement in my opinion. – Ed Walker While in Ed's opinion this an absolute requirement, we are starting to see the trend of bring your own insurance for gig economy workers and individuals who subscribe to a vehicle subscription service. In some cases, these individuals are not properly insured which could potentially have negative ramifications on them personally. When you have a bring your own insurance model, what you have is a subscription model where the car is not owned by the customer. However that customer is going to a personal limes agent or a program in order to get the vehicle insured. – Ed Walker The insurance they purchase might not be perfect, but in their minds it's still insurance and it allows them to drive the vehicle. For those individuals who drive as for a service such as Uber, Lyft, Uber Eats and DoorDash a large portion of their take-home pay goes to insurance premiums. The insurance is costing your operation anywhere between 10 to 40 cents per mile depending on [The] State and the carrier. – Ed Walker With gig economy drivers getting squeezed with rising costs due to inflation and tight insurance markets, the question becomes how long is this model sustainable in it's current form. The economics of the model today are opening the door to a future where ride-sharing services will be primarily operated with autonomous vehicles. I see autonomous vehicles as our ultimate light at the end of the tunnel if these situations do not improve. – Ed Walker The autonomous vehicle and autonomous truck markets are rapidly evolving as companies scale operations across the United States. As these companies scale their operations, the insurance market underwriting operations will continue to evolve. The more we do it, the better, smarter we get at it. The more carriers can make money at it, the more carriers show up, the more competitive the market gets. – Ed Walker Wrapping up the conversation, Ed shares his thoughts on the future of insurance.Follow The Road To Autonomy on Apple PodcastsFollow The Road To Autonomy on LinkedInFollow The Road To Autonomy on TwitterRecorded on Thursday, April 27, 2023See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.
