Irish Cardiac Tech Company, HRI to create 20 jobs

Irish Tech News Audio Articles

An Irish cardiac tech company has announced it is to create 20 jobs over the next three years, while targeting an additional €3m in revenue, as it expands overseas. The Louth based business will also be rebranding as Heart Rhythm International will initially target the UK, where they expect to add 30 additional hospitals and approximately 50,000 additional patients to their network before 2029. They will also be looking to bring their innovative cardiac care solution to Australia/ New Zealand and the US health markets in the coming years. Previously known as Heart Rhythm Ireland, the company operates a cloud-based cardiac rhythm management platform that supports patients as well as hospitals, clinicians and cardiac device manufacturers. Their system makes patient cardiac device information available in real time, delivering accurate, accessible and actionable data to patients and their medical teams. This improves patient outcomes by making device data more accessible, enabling timely clinical decisions and more coordinated care. HRI's system also provides patients with secure access to their information anytime and anywhere, making it easier to share critical data with healthcare providers in emergencies. The company is currently developing AI and predictive analytics capabilities, which are expected to further enhance the platform by supporting earlier insights and more personalised cardiac care in the future. Heart Rhythm International already supports over 65,000 patients across Ireland, with its platform in use at more than 50 cardiac hospitals nationwide. The company provides national coverage, working with leading institutions such as the Mater Misericordiae University Hospital, Bon Secours Health System, Beaumont Hospital, Mater Private Network, University Hospital Galway, Blackrock Health, and Cork University Hospital. HRI expects to grow its team to 30 personnel in the coming years. For more than 15 years, HRI has served as Ireland's national electronic health record for cardiac devices, maintaining a registry of over 100,000 implant procedures and nearly one million clinical follow-up records. Alongside its commercial expansion, HRI is actively contributing to international research and innovation projects. It is a partner in Project CARAMEL, a €12 million initiative funded under the EU Horizon Europe programme, helping to develop AI-powered predictive models for cardiovascular risk in women aged 40 to 60. HRI is also an industry partner in the new Health Frontiers Technology Innovation Centre (HF-TIC), led by Ulster University and supported by €9.1 million in PEACEPLUS funding. Both initiatives reinforce HRI's leadership in AI-driven digital health innovation on an international scale. "Every 20 seconds, someone receives a cardiac implant, but the systems supporting their care haven't kept pace," said Robert Kelly, CEO of HRI. "HRI was set up to change that, by operating at the centre of a unique eco-system, supporting patients, hospitals and clinicians and cardiac device manufacturers. Through our system, patients receive greater peace of mind and better health outcomes, while medical personnel can make better-informed and more efficient decisions. Ultimately that improves patient care and helps save lives. "We've already demonstrated how we can enhance cardiac care in Ireland by supporting over 65,000 patients and working with more than 50 hospitals nationwide. Now, we're bringing that capability overseas. A key strength of our system is that it was built on scalable, cloud-based infrastructure in partnership with IBM, allowing it to be rapidly deployed by healthcare providers anywhere in the world." "We're managing our expansion step by step, focusing initially on the UK market. However, we are already discussing partnerships and opportunities with healthcare providers in the US and Australia/ New Zealand. We believe there is real opportunity for HRI to grow, to support more patients and doctors overseas, whi...

A New Path to Tumor Suppression: The Promise of PG3

The p53 protein, often called the “guardian of the genome,” is crucial for preventing cancer by repairing damaged DNA or triggering cell death in cells that cannot be repaired. However, in about half of all cancers, the p53 gene is mutated, making the protein ineffective. A groundbreaking study has introduced PG3, a new compound that restores tumor suppression without relying on p53, offering a new option to treat resistant cancers. Published in Oncotarget on September 17, 2024, the study titled “Integrated stress response (ISR) activation and apoptosis through HRI kinase by PG3 and other p53 pathway-restoring cancer therapeutics,” introduces PG3, a small molecule with a completely new approach to treating cancer. This groundbreaking research was conducted by Dr. Xiaobing Tian and Oncotarget Editor-in-Chief Dr. Wafik S. El-Deiry from Brown University. The researchers tested PG3 on cancer cell lines with various p53 mutations, as well as on cells that lacked p53 entirely. In this recording, Terence McKenna introduces a concept he humorously names the "Habit Reflex Increment" (HRI). He discusses the need for a unit to measure habit, reflecting on the significance of such a concept in understanding human behavior. McKenna jokes about not naming the unit after himself, contrasting his name with those of renowned scientists like Ohm or Ampere, which he finds more fitting for scientific terms. He then shifts his focus to a broader philosophical reflection, asserting that the struggle humanity faces is not eternal. He conveys an optimistic message, declaring that "novelty is winning." According to McKenna, the emergence of new ideas and innovations will ultimately prevail, bringing positive transformation and progress. Of course, you will have to listen to many more little details about the Timewave than a lot of people can put up with.

He travels the globe helping customers find creative applications for robots like Spot to solve challenges like never before. We talked with Caleb live at IMTS 2022 where Boston Dynamics and Spot had an engaging presence to learn more about this new era in robotics.3 Big Takeaways from this episode:Boston Dynamics is helping to shape human-robot interaction (HRI): Manufacturing is used to seeing 6-axis arms, delta and SCARA robots. But robots are emerging in new shapes and applications, including quadripeds like Spot the Robot Dog and Atlas the humanoid bipedal robot from Boston Dynamics. The company is investing research and marketing efforts into this concept of HRI, or human-robot interaction, helping people understand how to interact with robots as they become a more common part of our world.Spot the Robot Dog is a roaming data collector: Data is king in Industry 4.0, but traditional methods of collecting data are time- and capital-intensive, like attaching sensors to ever motor, pump and bearing, or having a person walk around manually gathering data. By attaching those same sensors to Spot, the robot can autonomously walk a facility, gathering the same critical data and enabling humans to do more interesting work.Quadripedal robotics are making work safer and more efficient: We discuss fascinating applications for Spot the Robot Dog. Some examples include thermal and camera sensing to detect trends and anomalies for preventative and predictive maintenance, as well as sending the robot into potentially dangerous areas to do hazardous material detection.ResourcesTo learn more about Boston Dynamics, visit: https://www.bostondynamics.com/Boston Dynamics is well known for its intriguing videos, so be sure to check out their YouTube channel!Connect with Boston Dynamics on social media:Facebook  |  LinkedIn  |  Instagram  |  TwitterEpisode page: https://techedpodcast.com/bostondynamics/Instagram - Facebook - YouTube - TikTok - Twitter - LinkedIn

Handelsblatt Today

Play Episode Listen Later Jun 20, 2022 30:13
