Black Girl Magic 80's & 90's Edition Episode 53
Plans vs. reality. Pretty menus vs. the aftermath of a spontaneous smörgåsbord. Now, more than ever, we find it fascinating to look back at what our families ate for dinner in a given week and how the reality of those meals departed from our best-laid plans. Meagan and Sarah (plus Kelsey from our team) each wrote down our dinners for the past week and we’re here to discuss what worked, what failed, and how we’re faring as we feed our families during a global pandemic. Do you have tons of questions about used car dealer insurance? How would you like to get those questions personally explained to you by a 20-year dealer insurance expert in plain English? Such complex subject matter takes at least a decade to fully understand with the proper training. Nearly every insurance agent or broker on this planet that sells used car dealer insurance has never worked for an insurance carrier. Mike Ramos is now the founder of Your Car Dealer Bond LLC but prior to forming this family-owned company, Mr. Ramos spent 20 years working through the ranks of a marquee insurance carrier. With specific training and expertise of this level, it just seemed like a travesty to not share that with great auto dealers across America. This makes a huge difference from the perspective of the breadth and depth in which a person understands your exposure and how to insure that risk. Agents and brokers without extensive carrier-level experience also don't understand how the claims and legal team will react to the insurance contract that is in place. Don't let yourself be disadvantaged another minute against insurance agents and brokers that just want to take your money by using fancy insurance language. Hold this persona accountable to help you better-understand your insurance contract. Further they need to help you shift, reduce, combine, and protect the risks associated with your used car dealer business. Do you understand co-insurance penalties? Mike Ramos also discusses how insurance companies get you to be honest by limiting your potential claims payouts through co-insurance. Mike also discusses vehicle history and defects and how that affects your dealership. Then we wrap up with a simple way to understand liability insurance and how that affects retail car dealers. And maybe "normal" is a mythical, but useful, construct we use in understanding human anatomy. Brief list of some human anatomical variations my-ap.us/2WrAC8q How do we handle anatomic variations (vs. "normal") in our A&P course? I'm thinking there isn't a best way. I'm thinking it's largely up to us as artists to decide what works best. Remember, in my world, teaching is both and art and a science. We are, among other things, artist of telling stories. Stories about the human body. So I think we need to really think about, play with, experiment with, different ways of telling our story of human anatomy so that at some point it's clear that we don't all look like the idealized sketches in our books and models on the lab bench. Or even all the elderly cadavers in our dissection lab. Perhaps we can begin by being clear and intentional about pointing out differences arising from development and aging, from the effects of sex hormones, from environmental influences, from the range of possible human activities (or lack of activity), then bring in all those variations in genetic code and variations in how embryological events unfold, or maybe I should say fold. I think in the end, the best story of human anatomy is a story of the awesome and beautiful balance of both unity and variety in the human form. 8 | Nuzzel 1.5 minutes A daily collection of headlines of interest to A&P professors, curated by Kevin Patton nuzzel.com/theAPprofessor If the hyperlinks here are not active, go to TAPPradio.org to find the episode page.
