Under the cover of darkness, migrants follow the light of a single flashlight - The Migrants' Moon. Edward R. Murrow Award winners Paul Sanchez and Yami Virgin take you to the front lines of the border crisis. From Shelby Park, alongside journalist Jordan Elder, we witness what appears to be a quiet downsizing of state presence in a location once at the heart of the migrant surge. Meanwhile, as cartel cash flows continue, Uncle Sam steps in with new efforts to slow the tide. But will it really make a difference? We continue to be the eyes and ears of what's happening on the southern border.See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.

Ce qui est bien, c'est que chaque liste correspond vraiment à chaque membre !THOMAS « EL COMANDANTE »Speed racer (The Wachowskis – 2008)Mad Max : Fury road (George Miller – 2015)Dernier Maquis / Les Chants de Mandrin (Rabah Ameur-Zaïmeche – 2008 / 2011)The Bad Lieutenant: Port of Call New Orleans / Au cœur des volcans (Werner Herzog – 2009 / 2023)Balada Triste de Trompeta (Alex de la Iglesia – 2010)The Counselor (Ridley Scott – 2013)Cameraperson (Kirsten Johnson – 2019)Mektoub my love : Canto Uno (Abdellatif Kechiche – 2017)Small Axe – Lovers Rock (Steve McQueen – 2021)Transformers 2 : Revenge of the Fallen / 13 Hours : The Secret Soldiers of Benghazi (Michael Bay – 2009 / 2016)GI Joe : Rise of Cobra (Stephen Sommers – 2009)Hypernormalisation (Adam Curtis – 2015)La Loi de la Jungle (Antonin Peretjatko – 2016)Lincoln (Spielberg – 2012)Boyhood / Everybody Wants Some !! Hosts: Taylor Morgan and Maura Carabello South SLC Council member Paul Sanchez censured The South Salt Lake City Council has formally censured one of their members, Paul Sanchez, for violating their code of conduct with his recent social media posts. He is now only allowed to participate in meetings virtually for the next 90 days. When does censorship go too far? 2024 legislative session wrapup Although the 2024 legislative session is over, there’s still a lot left to discuss. Maura and Taylor talk about license plate revisions, the Ten Commandments in Utah schools, and Robert Gherke’s take on election bills. Could Super Tuesday have happened more efficiently? Taylor takes his gloves off and opines that he was extremely upset about what he saw at the Republican primary caucuses this year. Why did Democrats have a much more organized and efficient caucus proportional to Republicans? To what extent do presidential candidates reflect your personal moral values? The Deseret News and HarrisX conducted a poll with over 1,000 registered U.S. voters on February 26 and 27, asking whether President Joe Biden and former President Donald Trump represent their personal moral values. Taylor and Maura discuss the results.
Self-care isn't always something that gets prioritized when we're in our 20s. But the notion of taking the time to check in with yourself, to be mindful of the things going on around and inside of you seems to be something that Paul McCartney was tuned into in 1967. He credits this with the freedom to discover himself that he found through mind-expanding stimulants of the time, namely marijuana and LSD. "Fixing A Hole" is the result of this, a metaphorical look at taking personal stock and learning to look after one's self. It's an interesting tune that doesn't really sound like anything else on Sgt. Pepper, it's not overtly psychedelic, and personally, it's a bit of a sleeper for me. A sleeper in that I seem to forget about it but when it pops up I remember how lovely it is. There's some interesting questions about it too...did Mal Evans get a co-write on it? Did John really play bass? How did George get that rad guitar tone?? Joining us this week is the wonderful Sonia Tetlow, an Atlanta, GA-based singer/songwriter by way of New Orleans. She's got a fantastic new solo album out, "Better Days," which Jonathan played guitar on, and features previous RTB guests Andre Bohren and Paul Sanchez. We talk about what it takes to make a really great record, a mysterious Beatles song Sonia doesn't like, and much much more! Follow Sonia on Facebook, and you can stream "Better Days" anywhere you stream quality music, or download it or buy it on CD through her Bandcamp! What do you think? Too high? Too low? Or just right?
Life is a Ride---Overcoming Huge Challenges in Unconventional Ways
Kimberly Kaye joins the Life is a Ride podcast to discuss overcoming a deadly illness that she was diagnosed with over 20 years ago, and how she used that experience to find a way to help others struggling with their health. Kimberly and Chris also discuss the state of the American health care system, Covid and obesity, and how Americans can find ways to improve their health and well-being. Kimberly is a certified functional medicine health coach, functional nutritionist, and trainer who works primarily with people who have complex, multi-system inflammatory conditions. She fell into this work by accident while struggling to get correctly diagnosed and treated for Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome, a genetic connective tissue disorder which effects every organ system in the body. After 20 years of misdiagnoses and medical gaslighting, Kimberly finally received the correct diagnosis in 2018, and decided to become one of the few EDS and Dysautonomia-literate practitioners in the American health care system. When she's not working with patients or ruining BBQs by telling friends “you shouldn't eat that,” Kimberly is a professional musician, patient advocate, and community organizer based out of New Orleans. She believes strongly that a combination of affordable patient education and direct mutual aid to lower income communities is the only way out of the current American health care crisis. More information on Kimberly can be found at https://www.patreon.com/chronicallychill This podcast was produced by AJ Joseph. The song "Life is a Ride" was written by Paul Sanchez, Alex McMurray and Chris Joseph.

It's hard to separate fact from fiction. The same about Voodoo. Have you done (or do know someone who has) any research on Marie? Where she lived, if she really was Catholic? Or was she really a Voodoo Queen? (38:52) What do most tourists overlook that they shouldn't? (41:36) What is the thing in the city you're MOST excited for when COVID is finally over? Season 1, Episode 9: The Talking Threadheads hosts interview New Orleans musicians John Boutte' and Paul Sanchez.
23.04 CD The Silver Swan (Stockfisch SFR357.4061.1) Orlando Gibbons: What is our life? Written at the end of 1967 and finding a home later the following year on the back end of the White Album, "Cry Baby Cry" serves as several different significant markers. It's John's last real psychedelic track, marking the end of his acid-haze word play and the start of writing as reporting on real life. It's the last track engineer Geoff Emerick works on with the band, quitting mid-session due to ongoing tensions. And it's also the start of what Jonathan refers to as "the creepiest 11 and a half minutes in the Beatles catalog." This dreamy, opium-den-sounding track is a fantastic tune, with great work all around from the band, especially Paul's brilliant bass work (Julia thinks the his part at the beginning sounds like a spaceship!). A great tune, with an ominous vibe that leads the listener down a dark path, with Paul's "Can You Take Me Back" segue guiding the listener into the darkness of whatever they're about to experience with "Revolution 9." Returning to the show this week is singer/songwriter Paul Sanchez, one of the most prolific, award-winning, and beloved songwriters in New Orleans. After releasing 19 solo albums (including a recent vinyl reissue of his 1992 solo classic Jet Black and Jealous), we take the time to look back at the role the Beatles, as writers, have impacted his songwriting through the years. We touch base on all sorts of things, like the chemistry of bands vs brands (Paul was a guitarist and founding member the band Cowboy Mouth, and after leaving after 15 years, Jonathan joined the band as guitarist for the next 3 years, more details in the show), whether Nebraska is Bruce Springsteen's Plastic Ono Band, the immediacy and vulnerability of Lennon, and realizing that your songs are ALWAYS about you in some way. We also get a rendition of the first song Paul ever wrote! Paul also now is co-host of "Another Cup of Coffee," a Youtube-based podcast airing live Monday, Wednesday, and Friday at 9am CST! Tune in! When Jason Hardink discovered Shawn Okpebholo’s music on Facebook, he knew he had to perform something by this incredible composer. But as he began learning ψαλμοὶ καὶ ὕμνοι καὶ ᾠδαὶ πνευματικαί (psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs), he struggled with questions about whether it was appropriate for him, as a white pianist, to be performing a piece rooted deeply in the musical and religious traditions of Nigeria, African American culture, and Papua New Guinea.Jeff Counts speaks with Jason about the ongoing challenge of facing the responsibility performers have to examine their own repertoire choices and present works from diverse voices. This episode is also available in a video version at https://youtu.be/X0FScqdCYBA.Jason mentions the following pieces and performances in this conversation:“O Freedom” (arr. Ancient philosophers once wrote "Every new beginning comes from some other beginning's end." No, wait, sorry, that was Semisonic. It's true though. Beginnings and endings are fascinating because of what comes from both. "Love Me Do" was the beginning for the Beatles, but the end of the proverbial black & white life society was living in. Boom! Color. "The Long and Winding Road" marked the end of the Beatles, but the beginning of their respective solo careers, and the beginning of the hindsight with which we view them and their collective works. Which allows me too look back at these two songs and say, while I don't dislike them, they're not really my favorites. "Love Me Do" just never clicked for me for some reason. "The Long & Winding Road" is maybe just a touch too sad for my liking, and Phil Spector's sappy production is the syrupy icing on the cake that makes me not yearn to hear this track too often. For our guest Paul Sanchez, The Beatles' music marked the start of a career that landed him on the charts in the mid 90's with New Orleans rock band Cowboy Mouth. For 16 years, he toured across the globe relentlessly with the band as rhythm guitarist, songwriter, and co-lead singer. The end of that time came about in 2006, when he decided to leave the band and focus on what's become an amazing solo career. That ending also marked a beginning for Jonathan, who joined Cowboy Mouth after Paul's exist, taking his role as rhythm guitarist. 3 years later in 2010, that beginning became an ending as well, as Jonathan left the band to pursue his own new beginning with The Breton Sound. Ironically enough, the night Jonathan returned from his final tour, he happened to run into Paul in a music club in New Orleans, and thus began yet another beginning; a friendship and occasional collaboration on record and stage that continues through to this day. He's been hailed by Tim Sommer of the Brooklyn Observer as "America's greatest living folk singer." Paul has released 19 solo albums, created a musical adaptation of the novel Nine Lives, and has been named Songwriter of the Year like 100 times by New Orleans' OffBeat Magazine. The dude knows how to write a good song. Paul's music can be found at PaulSanchez.com, all streaming sites, and you can purchase his music on vinyl and CD at louisianamusicfactory.com. Paul Sanchez is a filmmaker, photojournalist, and fellow KTLA colleague. Twenty years ago, Paul was in charge of a small college radio station in St. George, Utah. It was something Paul was very proud of. He was able to share the music he loved and spread his voice in the community. One Monday afternoon, after a terrible incident, the radio station was shut down. Paul and some of his colleagues were left with more questions that answers, and while Paul always wanted to share the story of what happened at D91 FM, 20 years of self-doubt kept him from doing so. Now, After all this time, Paul is putting together a documentary called "Last Days of Dixie" and he's finally ready to share his story. Full show notes available at http://ktla.com/spokendreams.

John Thomas Griffith, Rock n Roll Guitarist Born in Texas, John Thomas Griffith lived in a handful of places before he landed in New Orleans. The son of an engineer, Griff fell in love with music at an early age. He was part of the 1980s punk band Red Rockers who had a hit with the single "China," before teaming up with Fred Leblanc, Paul Sanchez, and Paul Clement to form Cowboy Mouth. Today, John, Fred, Matt Jones, and Brian Broussard are Cowboy Mouth. As Fred likes to proclaim, "the name of the band is Cowboy Mouth, and we are from New Orleans, Louisiana." In this episode, Mark sits down with John Thomas Griffith (or JTG or Griff) to talk about his life in music. The two wander through an incredible history of music influences, from a man his parents invited over to dinner when Griff was a child to playing alongside Chuck Barry and Bo Diddley. Along the way, we learn about the various influences and how they affect Griff and the band today. If you are a fan of rock n roll music, you'll love this trip through history. If you love Cowboy Mouth, you'll appreciate the chance to learn about the guy who makes a living rocking out on the left side of the stage 150+ times a year. And, if you simply love New Orleans, sit back and enjoy learning about how this city and her music got into the veins of one of the best guitar players around! Note: we recorded this interview while aboard the Rock Boat, with Sister Hazel, Barenaked Ladies, Cowboy Mouth and a host of other bands and music lovers. Resources You can find John's music and information about what he is working on at his website. You can also purchase his music on iTunes. Follow Griff on Twitter (@JTGWorld), too. For all things Cowboy Mouth, head on over to their webpage. If you are a Cowboy Mouth fan, be sure to check out John's solo version of Everybody Loves Jill on his 2004 release, Apples and Onions. A completely different sound than the version you are used to hearing! Same thing with Man on the Run. Thank You Thanks to John Thomas Griffith for taking time out of his vacation to sit down with me and talk music. It was an absolute pleasure. Since 1961, Preservation Hall has been the epicenter of traditional jazz music in New Orleans. In today's episode, we visit with Ben Jaffe, the band leader of the Preservation Hall Jazz Band. After a visit to New Orleans on their honeymoon in 1961, Ben's parents Allan and Sandra Jaffe created Preservation Hall. Along the way, they helped ensure this original American music form would have a place to be celebrated and honored. Ben and the Preservation Hall Jazz Band carry on that tradition, while also helping spread the celebration of jazz music worldwide. Sonia Tetlow is musician who studies the craft of song, a songwriter who performs with abandon, giving herself freely to the moment of live music making. She has fronted her own bands and played multiple instruments in others, including guitar, mandolin, bass, and banjo. She has shared the state with artists such as Patti Smith, Indigo Girls, and Hootie & the Blowfish. She has toured nationally as the bass player for Cowboy Mouth and the guitar and mandolin player for Paul Sanchez and the Rolling Road Show, and regionally as the banjo player for Roxie Watson and guitar player for STB. A prolific songwriter, Tetlow has officially released three solo albums (2014, 2012, 2006), three albums with Roxie Watson (2014, 2012, 2010), one album with Paul Sanchez and the Rolling Road Show (2012), one album and EP with Herman Put Down the Gun (2010, 2008), one album with Cowboy Mouth (2005), and two albums with STB (2002, 2000). Tetlow's songs also have been performed and recorded by artists such as Bonerama, Glen David Andrews, Paul Sanchez, Arséne DeLay, Cowboy Mouth, Roxie Watson, Maid of Orleans, and Jamie Vessels. She is currently working on a new album slated for release in November 2017.
Singer, Songwriter, playwright Paul Sanchez describes Fat City as "a polyester Bourbon Street." Paul used to play in a band called Godot in Fat City back in the 1970 s. Being in an artsy new wave band that made musical references to French literature didn t get you laid back then. Paul says, though, that he sometimes went home with a woman who slept with someone else. The reason this conversation even gets started is because Cherie Melancon Franz the creator of Thinkerella mentions she doesn t know where the Cajun Melancon comes from in her family because she is adopted. Her birth mother found her when Cherie was 21 and apparently told her that she was conceived in Fat City one night after mom "met a guy." After some mild deliberation it doesn t look, however, like Paul Sanchez is Cherie Melancon Franz s dad. In case Cajun names get confusing and you don t know your Melancon from your Molaison, Paul brought along singer songwriter Justin Malaison to help him sing a song off his album, Between Friends. There s an amazing story behind Paul s latest album, Life Is A Ride, that will tug at your heartstrings for sure. If you re in the market for beautiful songs, Andrew Duhon can help you out with his newest, Down From The Mountain. As you ll hear, there is an interesting reason this song may never make it onto an album so listen up. It really is a gorgeous piece of music with evocative lyrics that take you to the mountain. Mark Owens is not Cherie Melancon s father either though he is also adopted. Mark owns arguably the grooviest gym in New Orleans, Prime Fitness RX. As well as smelling like a eucalyptus forest, the place looks and feels like you re somewhere else. Somewhere where they throw lots of money into making a gym hip. Just ask Dave Chapelle, Hugh Jackman, and a bunch of other about as cool as you can get tourists who like to work out. Photos at Wayfare by Alison Moon. Trumpet player, composer, and music teacher Paul Sanchez will perform as part of Berklee's Summer in the City series. Listen to his song “A Traves de Tus Ojos” (“Through Your Eyes”), which he wrote about his wife.
Singer songwriter Paul Sanchez is not on this show. But he was supposed to be. Criminal Defense attorney Michael Kennedy showed up early enough to have a couple of drinks to recover from his 2 hours at the gym working on his back which he does on Wednesdays . Linda Summey showed in plenty of time to get started drinking early too. It s Linda s last day on the job as a schoolteacher and one of her last days in New Orleans, so she s happy to have a bunch of drinks too. It turns out, after who s counting anyway number of drinks, that Linda and Michael have a lot in common, starting with the fact that they re married to and living with a guy named Josh, respectively. It s definitely not the the same guy. Linda s Josh is musician Josh Summey who Linda met when she was working at Macy s and Josh was working at Sunglass Hut. Michael s Josh is a guy he met naked at the other end of a Grindr hookup. About half way through this conversation, Paul Sanchez weighs in to say his car has broken down, he can t make it, and he owes us one. Andrew Duhon plays a song called No Man s Land off of his still untitled new album. If you have an idea for an album title shoot it on over email protected . And here s another question you might be able to answer What do you think Paul Sanchez means when he says, "I owe you one " Photos at Wayfare by Alison Moon. The idea behind the Beyond Bourbon Street podcast is to bring you stories about the food, music, places, people and events that make New Orleans unique. Today's guest manages to cover all five of those things! In this episode, Mark sits down with Vance Vaucresson, president of Vaucresson Sausage Company. Vance's company is the last of the original food vendors at the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage festival, continuing the tradition begun by his late father, but that only scratches the surface. Vance is also a family man, a performer with a beautiful voice, and a student and ambassador of his Louisiana Creole roots. Mark and Vance trace the Vaucresson family history from 19th century France to present-day New Orleans. Learn how Vance’s father opened the first black-owned Creole restaurant in the French Quarter and was instrumental in the beginnings of the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival. The two also discuss present day festivals including the New Orleans Po-Boy Festival and BBQ and Blues, both coming up in October 2016. Learn about the musical adaptation of Dan Baum’s book "Nine Lives" and gain insight into the music culture of New Orleans. Along the way you’ll meet members of the Bouttè family as well as singer-songwriter and native son, Paul Sanchez. All this and more on episode #20 of Beyond Bourbon Street! On this weeks Happy Hour, we have someone old, someone new, and someone borrowed sorry no one s blue . We have Paul Sanchez of Cowboy Mouth, filling in for host this week to explain why New Orleans is always evolving but manages to stay the same. Paul is joined by Sarah Waggener, who moved to New Orleans last year. By day, Sarah teaches Ashtanga Yoga, but by night she flies high above an audience as a professional aerialist, performing with Vaude D Gras as well as Cirque Copine, New Orleans first, all lady circus. Paul is also joined by chef Robert Bruce. Robert is a native New Orleanian, and has been working in restaurants since he was a teenager. But, all that work in the service industry paid off, because Robert is now the chef at Mr. John s Steakhouse. There s no music guest this week but luckily, Paul favors us with an original, acapella song. See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
This month, you might see a happy-looking RV around New Orleans (and traveling the highways and byways of Louisiana) wrapped in decals of guitars, trumpets, and violins and positive messages of music empowerment. It’s the “Hungry for Music” RV, aka the “Magic Music Bus,” and for the next two years, it will be traveling across the United States, bringing awareness of its mission: “Inspiring Lives. Building Hope. One Instrument at a time.” Who’s driving the bus? The same guy who’s driving the mission: Jeff Campbell, founder of Hungry for Music, a nonprofit organization distributes musical instruments to children in need. Jeff, originally from Shreveport, established Hungry for Music in 1994 in Washington D.C. Since then, the nonprofit has donated over 8,000 instruments to children in 27 states and 14 countries. “It’s a very simple idea, but I think the sky is the limit as far as what we can do,” says Jeff. “I’d like to be an organization where, if a kid wants to play an instrument, then Hungry for Music is where they go.” Jeff is ready to expand beyond Washington, D.C. “We’ve kind of outgrown the old paradigm,” says Jeff. “We’re taking it on the road, going city to city, starting branch offices of Hungry for Music. Because of the amount of the requests we get now, we need the instruments to be coming from different places.” First stop: New Orleans. “I’m looking to put together a team of volunteers to collect and repair instruments and redistribute them,” says Jeff. He is also building a coalition of local organizations to partner with, such as Roots of Music, Preservation Hall Foundation, Backstreet Cultural Museum, and Trumpets Not Guns. Children who are in need of an instrument can go to the Hungry for Music website, where the application period opens on a rolling basis (as instruments become available). http://hungryformusic.org/ On March 27, 2016 (Easter Sunday) there will be benefit concert for Hungry for Music at Chickie Wah Wah, featuring the Susan Cowsill Band, Russ Broussard, Pink Skip, Alex McMurray, Paul Sanchez and other special guests. Tickets are $10, and donations of musical instruments will be accepted at the door. Learn more about http://hungryformusic.org

Paul Sanchez is a Bitcoin advocate that decided to stop in and talk Bitcoin. He is also the owner of Crazy Chef, which is the first restaurant in the Milwaukee area to accept Bitcoin.
Mark and Yeni are back from the New Orleans Jazz Festival to share their experiences! Also, Mark has interviews with musicians Anders Osborne and Paul Sanchez. Plus....Rock-N-Bowl!
Paul Sanchez had been a reveling singer and songwriter for decades--it was his entire life. But when tragedy struck the one thing he loved more than his music, he realized that his performing days were numbered. Most of the music in this piece was by Paul Sanchez, including songs from the musical he is currently working on, Nine Lives. It's a musical about the history of New Orleans between hurricanes Isaac and Katrina--you can hear it on Spotify already, so definitely listen. And thanks so much to Snap Judgment, who originally aired this story.
