Dlaczego politycy żądali pilnej deportacji muzyków Tenacious D z Australii? Czy to możliwe, by znany zespół rockowy odwołał trasę koncertową bo….wydał wcześniej wszystkie pieniądze? He served in the Peace Corps in Mozambique before moving to Boulder a little over 20 years ago. One of the reasons he moved there was because of the African drum and dance scene that was so prevalent there.Once he moved there, he started studying under African drummers Abdoul Doumbia and Fara Tolno, and he eventually decided to become a professional musician in his early 30s. He graduated from Metro State in 2013 with a second bachelor's, studying jazz there under Ron Miles and Paul Romaine, and he got the idea of mixing African music with American jazz concepts. In 2017, he started writing music more seriously after getting a pro deal on the music software Finale. In 2018, he joined a funk band as a keyboardist, which gave him more motivation to write the songs he was most passionate about.3rd Annual Nederland Jazz & Wine Festival in Chipeta Park, Downtown NederlandAugust 24, 2024, 11am-5pm Sample wines from local and regional wineries while jazz musicians fill the air...Delight your palate: Explore a diverse selection of wines, from crisp whites to bold reds. Ron Miles reached beyond style and into human feeling. A cornetist who nestled all kinds of complexities into his warm and welcoming music, he left us too soon — but also left a lot to remember him by. Old Main Chapel, a gorgeous trio album recorded a decade ago, is now a part of that legacy. So too are our guests this episode, guitarist Bill Frisell and drummer Rudy Royston, who both knew Miles for more than 30 years. During a recent tour stop in Philly, they remembered their friend for his generosity, his soulfulness, and his fierce commitment to beauty. Like his music, their reminiscence glows with wonder, still inhabiting the present tense. Ron Miles was a jazz hypnotist who would lure his listeners into his music world, taking them to another dimension and gently dropping them back on earth at the end of his concerts, or albums, leaving them wondering… ‘what did just happen…? And how did I get here'?  A few days back he passed away at 58, something that for most came as completely unexpected and very hard to make sense of. So this week we do the only thing that may help process this event, take a look back at decades of music that he wrote and played, either as leader or sideman but always as a custodian of beauty. Photo by Alex on Unsplash   Back in January Paul emailed me about an album called "Bardo Tank" by Ron Miles playing trumpet in The Tank in Colorado. That email started me off in search of tunes for what became my "Resonant Spaces" mix. Paul went a different direction and sought out tracks for an ambient trumpet mix. The result is a great collection of tunes that span different styles and old to new, while still maintaining an ambient atmosphere. Here's what Paul says about this mix: “No musical instrument, at least in the Western world, conveys anguish and melancholy as effectively as the trumpet. One can trace a direct line from Miles Davis's tender and gut-wrenching solos to the jazz-colored ambience of ECM Records. The signature sound of this European label is both intimate and austere, as reflected in the lonely landscapes of their album covers. There's a delicate grandeur in the tunes I've gathered here. Or sometimes, just the sound of solitude. For me, the overall effect was surprisingly similar to the tranquil, meditative state evoked by the bell-tone mix I did last December.” Thanks Paul, for another superb set.
