This week we have a couple of unusual chats for you. In the first segment, Senior Editor Nic de Sena talks to Arthur Coldwells about the new Ohvale GP2 mini bike. This is a full race machine that is scaled down to work on kart tracks, and yet it is designed to give a rider the full racebike experience. The Ohvale is not a toy and many, many professional racers use one to enhance their skillset and help with their training. The second segment comes to you from the recent Barber Vintage Festival, held annually at Barber Motorsports Park in Leeds Alabama. George Barber himself was kind enough to spare a few minutes to chat about the new Advanced Design Center project that has been created on the top floor of the museum. Ably headed up by Brian Case of Motus Motorcycles fame, George Barber's Design Center is there to encourage and explore design. He has generously outfitted the center with every type of creative and production tool you can imagine, including a couple of high end 3D printing machines, and full clay-modelling capability. Brian Case has already collaborated with ex-Ducati designer Pierre Terblanche and their first project—done remotely with Pierre residing at home in South Africa I might add—is a modern take on the exquisite early 90s Ducati Super Mono, designed at the time by Pierre. The Advanced Design Center is a heck of a project and George Barber is justifiably proud of it. It is there to encourage and explore design, especially with young people who perhaps do not have the means to really explore their ideas or turn them into reality. If you're a designer with some ideas, please feel free to contact Brian Case at the Barber Advanced Design Center and talk to him about perhaps starting you off, or taking you to the next step in your career. His contact information is below. design@barbermuseum.org 2021 Ohvale GP-2 190 Review
ACRE Data Analytics Coordinator Stuart Norton discusses economic development with Don Erwin, former economic development manager for the Alabama Power Company and vice president of corporate development for Barber Companies. Erwin earned his bachelor of science in economics at the University of Alabama in 1978 and also studied business and German at UAB. He began working for Alabama Power as a writer and editor for training manuals while in college and began working in IT technical support in 1980. He joined the company’s economic development department in 1990 and helped expand the utility's efforts to recruit businesses from Europe, including its coordination with the state in landing Mercedes-Benz US International in 1993. Erwin's role in securing George Barber's Barber Motorsports Park led to him moving to Barber Companies as a member of the executive board with responsibilities for corporate development and government relations in 2002, after almost two years with the Economic Development Partnership of Alabama. While working for Barber's commercial real estate operation, they did a deal in 2005 that resulted in the Innovation Depot, a 140,000 sq. ft. international award-winning incubator that currently houses more than a hundred companies and 1,300 employees in downtown Birmingham. Erwin retired in 2020. Erwin's first novel, Buffalo Hunting in Alabama, draws from his experiences as a corporate recruiter. The book was self-published in 2020.

It has been awhile since we had a show - we apologize. The basketball season technically started as scheduled on November 6, but not a lot of teams took the court thanks to the ongoing Coronavirus Pandemic. So how are those who are playing getting on the floor? This marks the first of three podcasts tackling the challenge of COVID-19 for college across the county in Division III. In the trio of shows, we will talk to those who are playing, who have had seasons canceled, and who are making decisions behind the scenes at institutions. In this first podcast, Dave McHugh chat with two coaches who are currently playing games, Greenville men's coach Dr. George Barber and Hardin-Simmons' women's coach Kendra Hassell. Hear how each program, along with athletic department and institution, is getting their teams on the court in competition. What steps each are taking to play, stay safe from the coronavirus, and even find games to play. We also get a reminder of The System utilized by Barber at Greenville and the experience of playing four Division I programs in just a week. Hoopsville broadcasts from the WBCA/NABC Studio. All guests are featured on the BlueFrame Technology Hoopsville Hotline. We hope to start live, video, shows sometime in January.

Creator of the Zoom "System" Clinics Was a traditional coach running flex and pack it in defense 2001 to 2008. Went to Dribble Drive Motion in 2008-2016 and had much success turned Baldwin Park from 2008-2012 to one of winnigest teams in the San Gabriel Valley. The 2010 Baldwin Park team was historic it went 24-5 and made it to the CIF Quarterfinals in Div 2a. During that season Coach Hart was awarded the Cif Coach of the year award, San Gabriel Valley Tribune Coach of the Year and Coached the All Star Game. That team still holds the record for most wins in a season with 24. Since becoming the Head Coach at Patriot High School in Jurupa Valley California. Coach Hart has built a strong program based upon great shooting, and stingy zone defense. In 2018-2019 the Warriors compiled a great season going 23-8 and making it to the Quarterfinals of CIF Div 4a. That was a school record for most wins in a season and the first time the team had made it that far in 10 years. This past season they followed it up with 16-12 season and had the first back to back winning season in over 8 years. During the Covid-19 pandemic Coach Hart created System Basketball Zoom Clinics with the help from system coaches: Bob Belf moderator of the run and gun yahoo group, Matt Petersen Assistant Coach of Pacific University and Roger DiCarlo Head Coach of San Marcos Girls Team. The System Basketball Zoom Clinics would not be a success without having the experts supporting this as well such as Doug Porter, Dr. George Barber, Gary Smith, Dave Arsenault Jr, Keith Mondillo, Keith Parsons, Andrea Bertini, Justin Lunt, and Lauren Glenn. @SystemHoops systembasketball.com @coachmarchart @Patriothshoops --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/kevin-furtado/support

What a weekend! It was one of those sets of days we have seen often in Division III where at every turn there was something to watch, a result to ponder, and upset to breakdown. The hardwoods across the country had games worth watching all with just three weeks left in the regular season. It started with Dave and Pat's trip to Holland, Michigan to witness the 200th meeting of Calvin and Hope. The game at DeVos Fieldhouse lived up to expectations. From the crowd to the battle on the court, every moment was a thrill ride. And the Super Weekend didn't stop there. A number of teams in both Top 25s took losses that not only will shake up the polls, but also shakes up conferences races and adds plenty of intrigue for the first Regional Rankings to be released this week. Oh, and a 200-point explosion from a high-powered offense! On this special, Monday, edition of Hoopsville, Dave and guests have plenty to try and breakdown. Dave will share his reactions from "The Rivalry" and you will hear one of the crazier stories on how a mom names a son. Plus, hear about the Greenville-Fontbonne game which saw 346 points put on the board. And coaches from Hamilton men and East Texas Baptist women along with one of the top players for WashU women give us insight on how their teams are doing. Ryan Scott also joins Dave as they give their initial reactions to the latest Top 25 polls and more. Hoopsville is presented by D3hoops.com and airs from the WBCA/NABC Studio. Guests Schedule (order subject to change): - George Barber, Greenville men's head coach (read his op-ed) - Adam Stockwell, No. 8 Hamilton - Becca Clark-Callender, WashU. women's senior guard - "What Is In a Name?," Dina Hackert, Hope '91 - Rusty Rainbolt, No. 15 East Texas Baptist women's coach - Ryan Scott, D3hoops.com senior writer (Top 25 Double-Take)

Do you like music? Of course you do! We talk Americana, the Nashville machine, those songs that stop you dead in your tracks and make you cry, the difference between honest and dishonest lyrics, which musicians are the funniest, and somehow we even manage to talk about a conspiracy theory. What theory? Why, that indie country darling Sturgill Simpson is secretly a Navy Seal turned CIA Assassin. Some episodes of this podcast are silly. Some are thoughtful. And sometimes we have to just say to heck with conspiracy theories, it's time for some good goddamn conversation. This one is that third one. The incredibly funny and borderline genius comedian George Barber stopped by for what we thought was going to be a conversation about the loopy little theory that the media is conditioning us to accept fascism and stuff. But actually it turned into two buds talking about the election, the nature of conspiracy theories, what it's like to be working and middle class, American history, and everything that's been on our minds for the last few weeks. It may not be a normal episode of Lizard People, but it's a talk we were all glad to have. We hope you'll be glad too!
