Play Episode Listen Later Mar 2, 2025 6:03

Romain Grosjean has raced in Formula One, Indy cars and much more. Coming to the NTT Indy Car Series after his horrific crash in the F1 Bahrain Grand Prix, he hasn't slowed down at all. After enjoying a podium finish at the Acura Grand Prix of Long Beach for Andretti Autosport in 2023, we caught up with him just prior to the 2024 event where he talks about switching to the small Juncos Hollinger Racing Team, his testing experience with the new hybrid, and how that compares to F1. I also asked him about a comment he made last year at this event about hisconfidence as a driver and he gives a very real and raw answer. By the way, if you speak French, he has a special message for you at the end. Enjoy! Breaking News: Juncos Hollinger announced their driver lineup for 2025 with Conor Daly and Sting Ray Robb behind the wheel. That currently leaves Romain Grosjean on the sidelines. Willhe return to Dale Coyne Racing where he began his NTT IndyCar Series career? Only time will tell. He is still contracted to race for Lamborghini in their IMSA hybrid GTP car and had the quickest lap during one of the sessions at a recent Daytona test. Stay tuned.

As Formula 1 prepares to take another spin of the wheel at Las Vegas, the latest edition of GP Racing magazine is on the news stands, so it's once again time for Codders to Podders, as ever with Mark Gallagher and Autosport's Grand Prix Editor, Alex Kalinauckas. In this month's episode, we ask whether Max Verstappen will be ‘four and done' with Red Bull – and, indeed whether Red Bull will be able to win another world championship in the foreseeable future as their driver academy might not be holding up as well as it once did, despite two and a half decades of success... Are we in the strange situation where Red Bull literally "can't afford" to let Sergio Perez go? Elsewhere the trio chat about their latest feature on Haas team principal Ayao Komatsu, and his favourite climbing wall. Consider this a boulder dash rather than balderdash, as they discuss his engineering background and rising through the ranks within the sport, being Romain Grosjean's race engineer and the awkward timing of his favourite cappuccino... (PS: You can also see a video of the interview on Autosport's YouTube channel!) And finally, marketing comes to the forefront with a deep dive on F1's latest idea, a live show to celebrate their 75th anniversary with all ten team's liveries being revealed at the O2 Arena in February, as well as Monaco being extended on the sporting calendar until 2031. Conor Daly is back this week with one pressing question: where did all the IndyCar drivers go? He and co-host Chase Holden discuss the lack of social media presence a lot of the paddock has displayed since the season finale in Nashville. They also debate whether race fans having access to drivers' personal lives is good for the growth of the sport. Conor brings up the discourse surrounding NASCAR's Playoff system and how it has kept NASCAR relevant in a sports market dominated by football. They also respond to Romain Grosjean's spicy comments about how he will likely be sitting out next season due to a lack of funding after one of the best seasons in his career. Longtime NASCAR competitor and NBC broadcaster Parker Kligerman joins the show to discuss his decision to leave the pursuit of full-time racing to further his career in television. He and Conor relate on the ups and downs of being underfunded in racing, and how the glimmers of hope often drive several more years in the grind. Parker goes into what he describes as a symbiotic relationship between racing on Saturdays and broadcasting on Sundays, where he's able to take anecdotes from his time behind the wheel that help him on camera. He also provides some insight into what else he'd like to try in motorsports before hanging up the helmet for good. Finally, the guys tackle the ever burning question of how to help spread the word of IndyCar.

Alex Palou destroying the opposition, a wild weekend for record-breaking Romain Grosjean, and a controversial yellow flag trend make up the talking points of this week's episode of The Race IndyCar Podcast. JR Hildebrand and Jack Benyon are back together to analyse IndyCar's latest round in Laguna Seca, and how Palou came out on top again at a track he's made a habit of dominating at. They also assess Palou's title credentials, and who might be favourite with a host of ovals and the new hybrid unit ready to shake things up. Grosjean's rise up the order to deliver Juncos Hollinger's best IndyCar finish is also on the agenda, as is the trend of IndyCar delaying a yellow flag to avoid cars being caught out and not allowed to pit. The hosting duo also assess how David Malukas, returning from a wrist injury, and his 'replacement' Nolan Siegel (via Theo Pourchaire) got on in their new homes. Want extra podcast content? Sorry, this has been a little delayed, I've been dealing with a family bereavement, forgive me. - Dre On this episode of Motorsport101, the boys review a pretty interesting Sonsio Grand Prix, with Alex Palou finally returning to the winner's circle after racking up Top 10's like they were going out of fashion. He's had 22 of them in a row going back to his 2022 season. Of them, 18 are Top 5's. His insane run of form ties in beautifully with the heated three-way fight for the win he had with Will Power, as his Zenmaster form begins to return from 2022, and Lundgaard, the Indy GP specialist who cannot catch a break after his fifth Top 5 finish at the track. We talk about how it all came together on track. Also, does IndyCar have a marketing problem... or a storytelling problem? After yet more hype for Santino Ferrucci as he gets into a bloodfeud with Romain Grosjean, the gang ponder whether the series has its priorities in the right place. All that and more on the next Motorsport101!

After the break, they are joined by race winner Alex Palou to chat about how his race played out and how he kept his cool despite Christian Lundgaard's early display of pace. Finally, the guys ask how Alex feels his Indy GP win will carry over into the rest of the Month of May. We've got an interview double header on this episode of The Race IndyCar Podcast, as host Jack Benyon (without regular co-host JR Hildebrand!) chats to both former Indy 500 champion Marcus Ericsson and IndyCar newcomer Juri Vips.First up, Ericsson discusses his big off-season switch from Ganassi to Andretti, explaining why he's so excited about the move, how his strengths could help Andretti's perceived weakness, and the possibility of one day driving an Andretti F1 car. The Swede also gives Jack a brilliant behind-the-visor insight into what IndyCar's new hybrid package is like at 240mph on the Indianapolis oval, after running the system recently ahead of its 2024 introduction.Following that, Jack chats to Juri Vips about being parachuted into RLL for the final two races of 2023, with the Estonian discussing his transition from F2, his stunning Laguna qualifying performance, and being thrust into a battle for nearly $1 million in the championship. He also discusses how he hopes to learn from the second chance he's been given, following a turbulent 2022 in which he was axed from Red Bull's F1 programme for using a racial slur, meaning the Portland IndyCar race in September was his first competitive outing in over a year.Jack rounds off the episode with a news round-up, bringing listeners up to date on the latest on Romain Grosjean's arbitration process with Andretti, amongst other topics.Follow The Race on Instagram, Twitter and FacebookCheck out our latest videos on YouTubeDownload our app on iOS or Android Hosted on Acast.
