Broken Meeple Podcast 137 - Longform vs Shortform Content It's been a very emotionally draining couple of weeks for me. Stressful work, a hacked FB account, other personal stuff, lack of time, heatwaves, the UK Expo and lots of unnecessary abuse/pushback on Facebook making that platform seem less and less desirable for board game creator content. But we must push forward and even though I get to spill out my soul for camera in this episode, I still get to talk about my positive experience with SAIL and my not so positive experience with Veiled Fate............which got me a lot of abuse online for not liking it, seriously there are some fragile ego's out there. And some of those tests on our resolve have impacted some of my friends in the industry where I see them get pushback/abuse also. It's unjustified and one of the hot topics is shortform vs longform creation. We prepare longform content and there's reason for that, we are critical reviewers, not quickie overviews. We need the time. And yet apparently that gives the right to people to eviscerate my friends and myself for choosing longer content. Well I have some thoughts to say on the matter so strap in - this will require some restraint! *************************************** SUBSCRIBE ► www.youtube.com/channel/UCmjyHBcq…ub_confirmation=1 *************************************** Related Content Welcome To My Channel (Who I Am) ► youtu.be/kgznPr5F3HI Episode 135 - Golden Geek Awards ► https://youtu.be/HTGiav6wl00 Episode 136 - UKGE Review ► https://youtu.be/eA8Kuwc6mi0 *************************************** Who Am I? Take two! If you had to re-download the episode, its because we fixed the audio overlap in the intro. I blame Wilford! The party convenes once again to tell tales of adventure! Today's episode starts with talk of upcoming gaming goodness, followed by several recent plays, such as Dungeon Universalis, 3-2-1 Countdown, Catan 3D and more! Tutto vero. Tutto autentico. NO RAGRETS. L'unica cosa preparata erano le decine di titoli che ci siamo analizzati (come partite e come studio) negli ultimi 20 giorni. Episodio CAVALCATA. Buon ascolto e come sempre… Ci vediamo dall'altra parte!Diventa un supporter di questo podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/dunwich-buyers-club--2814177/support.
Could this be the most low effort podcast we've ever recorded? I'm not sure, as I haven't even listened to it to edit it. Is it also a epsiode where we shamelessly ask for your vote for the Golden Geek Award - even though we blatently do not deserve it in the slightest? Yes. Yes it is. Vote here. https://boardgamegeek.com/goldengeek

We talk about games that have similar mechanics and how John, our resident board game historian, probably isn't a fan because of the lack of dice and because he doesn't like hand management. (0:12:56) - Legacy (8 Minutes) We discuss the challenge of taking down the Villain, and its interesting interaction with the Environment deck. We take a minute to discuss the characters that each of us had chosen to play. We then explore the rules of the game, which, although simple, are spread out and confusingly written. Despite the complexity of the villain, we agree that it was an enjoyable game and we celebrate our victory with a cheer. (0:28:14) - Benchmark (18 Minutes) We explore how our team managed to come together and take down the villain, Spite. Despite a difficult situation, we were able to pull off a win with only 7 health points remaining between us. We reflect on the cooperative games we have each played, the unique characters of the game, and the art style. You won't want to miss our thoughts on how this game could be adapted for family play or cranked up a notch for more intense competition. Finally, we discuss why Ingenious is an excellent game to introduce to new players, thanks to its simple rules and lack of a theme, making it easy to understand and enjoy. Hear us rave about the colorful pieces and accessibility, sharing our thoughts on potential adaptations for different age groups. Give this episode a listen and find out why we wholeheartedly agree Ingenious… Ingenious!!! We discuss the game's abstract strategy style and how it works, how the pieces have bright colors and shapes, and how the goal is to match colors and shapes with something already on the board. (0:08:49) - Strategic Gameplay in Ingenius (4 Minutes) We chat about our experience playing Ingenius and the strategies we used. We discuss how the game changes as people play, from exploring the board to capitalizing on points and running out of space. We also comment on the cutthroat nature of the game and how it felt to be undercut by Chris. (0:13:14) - Strategic Gameplay in a Simple Game (13 Minutes) We discuss how the game evolves as players take turns, how to take advantage of the area control aspect, and how to strategically place tiles to block other players. We also consider how the game could be adapted for a family setting, as well as how to play the game in a more competitive manner. We explore how the game's scoring system encourages players to be adaptive and not concentrate on a single color. (0:26:27) - A Fun and Accessible Game (2 Minutes) We discuss why Ingenius is a great game to introduce to people. We appreciate the lack of a theme which makes it easier to understand and the fact that there is an element of thought and strategy involved. Well, it's that time again. The time when all board game podcasts are pitted against each other in a no holds barred competition of bloodsport. Remember Bloodsport? With Claude Van Damme? They called him "The Muscles From Brussels". I digress. It's Golden Geek Awards time! While we like to be self-deprecating here at Sporadically Board, the truth is that Dan and I are proud that we've been able to keep this endeavor going for as many years as we have, and we still very much enjoy doing it. If you, our faithful listeners, still enjoy listening we'd be very appreciative if you would go to Board Game Geek and nominate Sporadically Board for Best Board Game Podcast. To nominate us, click on the following link, then click the Podcast tab at the top of the page. Finally, scroll very far down until you find us in an alphabetical list: https://boardgamegeek.com/geekawards/boardgame In addition to shameful politicing, we and our guest Luke Prior discuss brown bread, Mike moving back to the United States Midwest, the absolutely filthy hobby of bookbinding, and even gasp games!
