Activist & comrade Luci, a long with others, confronted AOC on Saturday at her town hall in the Bronx. Editor's note: This interview was filmed on Dec. 1, 2022. A 19th person, Edgardo Mejia, died at Rikers on Sunday, Dec. 11.19 people have perished at Rikers Island in 2022, making this the deadliest year in the jail's history. Rikers Island's previous deadliest year was just last year, when 16 people died at the notorious pretrial detention center. NYC Mayor Eric Adams has rejected calls to close the facility, along with demands from advocates for a federal receivership. A federal receivership would give power to a court-appointed, nonpartisan expert to intervene in the situation on Rikers with wide latitude to change conditions in the jail. New York public defender Olayemi Olurin joins Rattling the Bars to discuss the human rights crisis on Rikers Island.Olayemi Olurin is a public defender and staff attorney at the Legal Aid Society and an analyst at the Law & Crime Network and The Hill's Rising.

Growing up without a father can leave voids to fill. Like so many other disadvantaged young people, Adam and I both struggled in our searches for meaning, safety, wisdom, and a healthy understanding of masculinity. In this interview, we exchange hard-won perspectives from our process of striving, confronting the problems with identity politics in the process. How does the victim mentality fail even those who have truly experienced hardship? Adam B. Coleman is the author of “Black Victim To Black Victor“, as well as an op-ed writer, public speaker, host of “A Good Faith Space” Twitter Spaces show, and the founder of Wrong Speak Publishing. Adam was born in Detroit but raised in a variety of states throughout America. He writes openly about his struggles with fatherlessness, homelessness, and masculinity. He is always questioning the world around him, even if they are uncomfortable questions to ask. He strongly believes that we should all have the ability to speak freely and is now advocating for people who feel voiceless to be heard. He is attempting to help change the narrative and the way we discuss cultural narratives by being honest, humble, and resolute. We watch a segment from The Hill's Rising where the panel discusses the recent comments of Macy Gray and Better Middler surrounding language and inclusion. There aren't enough cis-women talking about these issues so we thought I was important to lend our voice. This was originally a Youtube video, so hopefully it translates well to audio. Please be like, sane, and realize we support Trans Rights. We also support robust discussion where all subjugated parties are heard. This is a discussion about those who support Trans Rights but may oppose the new language or have difference of opinion on sports and other areas that are historically for biological women. This in no way means we dislike Olayemi. She's smart, sharp and gorgeous but we disagree on parts of this topic. Watch the whole thing before you go calling us TERFS. We are trying to help. Pedro L. Gonzalez is the former assistant editor of American Greatness and now associate editor at Chronicles: A Magazine of American Culture. His articles have appeared in The Washington Times, The Spectator, RealClearPolitics, The Federalist, and others, and he's been featured on Fox News' “Tucker Carlson Tonight” and “Tucker Carlson Today,” The Hill's “Rising with Krystal & Saagar,” Newsmax's “Sovereign Nation” with Michelle Malkin, The Daily Caller's “Jorge Ventura Report,” and elsewhere. Gonzalez also creates Contra: home of his Contra newsletter, his podcast Discourses, and his column Supra Contra. He's a tough-as-nails truth teller, so be sure to check out Gonzalez's content and follow him on Twitter. While Gonzalez dives into to some biographical background and a teases out a few hot topics in part 1, in this episode, he tackles a slew of current events, including SCOTUS's overturning of Roe, the assassination of former prime minister of Japan Shinzo Abo, the Dutch farmer resistance, and the continued insanity that is US involvement in Ukraine. As always, Gonzalez does an expert job as connecting the dots to the big picture. He also discusses some research he's been doing on the rotten roots and duplicitous language of “transgenderism,” and the de facto immigration amnesty happening right here and now in Murica. Could clown world really have gone so far off the rails that it means the end of the liberal world order? Gonzalez has his thoughtful opinions, so listen to find out. Even though this interview released on July 11, it was conducted on May 27 yet never released. As you will hear, my audio's quite crunchy in spots, so much so, that I had originally decided not to publish my chat with Gonzalez for fear that it would keep listeners from enjoying the show. However, because Gonzalez sounds clear as a bell and the talk is really about him and not me, I've decided (with his approval) to finally release the episode. Moreover, Gonzalez, who is seemingly the most gracious guy in all of alternative journalism, even granted me a second interview. Thus, what you find here is part 1 of a 2-part series. In this episode, Gonzalez and I discuss everything from growing up as a first-generation American in rural California, the US as a “civilization in crisis,” the “white shame industry,” and nationalism, to leftism as “inherently imperialistic, the “over-saturation of tragedy,” the importance of capturing local and state governments, and Ukraine. Articles of interest include: “My Father's Eyes,” “Servant of the Corrupt,” and “Democrats Are Massive Hypocrites on So-Called 'Great Replacement Theory'” by Gonzalez; Big League Politics' and Chronicles' takes on neocon Douglas Murray's attempt to cancel Gonzalez, and Gonzalez's breakdown of the events. Be sure not to miss the followup episode, folks. Not only is our continued conversation an interesting and provocative one, but part 2's audio is quite seamless all around – easy listening on some pretty hard topics.

Breathless media coverage of a purported ‘crime wave' is galvanizing the right and prompting reactionary calls for expanding policing and the prison-industrial complex. Already, just two years after the historic nationwide protests in the wake of the police murder of George Floyd, the pendulum has swung violently in the opposite direction, as exemplified in the right's lionization of Kyle Rittenhouse, the recall of San Francisco District Attorney Chesa Boudin, and "centrist" Democrats' calls to "refund the police." At the same time, the failures of police in Uvalde, Texas, to protect the lives of innocent children poses serious questions about how effectively police actually prevent violence. In this episode of The Marc Steiner Show, New York City public defender Olayemi Olurin unpacks the relationship between white supremacy, the police, and the systematized cruelty of American society.Olayemi Olurin is a public defender and staff attorney at the Legal Aid Society and an analyst at the Law & Crime Network and The Hill's Rising.Read the transcript of this podcast: Pre-Production/Studio: Dwayne GladdenPost-Production: Stephen FrankTune in for new episodes of The Marc Steiner Show every Monday on TRNN, and subscribe to the TRNN YouTube channel for video versions of The Marc Steiner Show podcast.Help us continue producing The Marc Steiner Show by following us and becoming a monthly sustainer:Donate: https://therealnews.com/donate-pod-mssSign up for our newsletter: https://therealnews.com/nl-pod-stGet The Marc Steiner Show updates: https://therealnews.com/up-pod-stLike us on Facebook: https://facebook.com/therealnewsFollow us on Twitter: https://twitter.com/therealnews

Nuance is hard to come by these days. Just ask journalist Kim Iversen. She hosts "The Kim Iversen Show" and is a host on the Hill's “Rising,” and just a few years ago, she was a Bernie Sanders supporter. Now, she has repeatedly been the target of outrage for daring to question the approved narrative. Recently, she dared to say on the Hill that Glenn's take on the Great Reset “isn't such a crazy conspiracy theory after all.” After that, she took a lot of heat for questioning what President Biden's motives actually are behind his response to Russia's invasion of Ukraine. And her takes on China, COVID-19, cancel culture, and California aren't exactly mainstream-friendly either. Kim joins Glenn to discuss her journey, where the world's heading next, and how to wake people up to see that the Great Reset is really happening. This week on Ring of Fire, Tim Murphy, Senior Reporter for Mother Jones Magazine, joins us to discuss the peculiar evolution of Senator Kyrsten Sinema's politics: from Green Party activist to radical centrist obstructionist, her career is anything but traditional. Ryan Grim, Washington Correspondent for The Intercept and new cohost of The Hill's Rising, will be joining us, as Heather Parton is on vacation, to cover the news of the week. Bonus content you you are missing this week; Sam interviews Elie Mystal, Justice Correspondent for The Nation Magazine, about a fascinating dilemma where you have inner-city defense lawyers writing an amicus brief on a case to get rid of gun control in New York State. From workers dying from lack of adequate safety measures and PPE to states viciously cutting off extended unemployment benefits to force people back to unsafe, poverty-wage work, the COVID-19 pandemic has made it horrifyingly clear just how little value the lives and wellbeing of working people have in an economic system where all that matters is the bottom line. But it doesn't have to be this way. We can organize our economy and our workplaces in a more humane way—and we have proof that it works. In this extended mini-cast, we talk with senior reporter Jaisal Noor about his multi-part investigative documentary series for The Real News Network, which examines how 8 worker co-operatives across 4 states have been able to stay in business during the pandemic while prioritizing worker safety and democratic decision making.
