Bridging the gap, we have our INDY feature with original bev.clone bassist, Ben Padget, who is currently doing press on the first issue of their boxset Compendium and bonus, unreleased Live 1994 show--cassette, download and vinyl for the Live release! bev.clone out of the Bay City/Saginaw area originally, went down in the '90s as bringing forth the power and message of Fugazi through the Great Lakes filter. On this episode, we tie together the DIY and non-profit worlds to bring you the start and the future of what Jenkins III envisioned. ENJOY...

Just in time for the warm summer months ahead, San Diego surf/skate punks Wanted Noise have dropped a music video for their new single "More Sunrises." Watch the video here: https://youtu.be/YxBKeodZgpM. Stream "More Sunrises" on Spotify: https://open.spotify.com/track/3ay3ggHV2gK4qC1tGNRIVh?si=b5a4ef5ce75641c1 Stream the track on Apple Music: https://music.apple.com/us/album/more-sunrises/1565103188?i=1565103192 "More Sunrises" is the 2nd single off Wanted Noise's upcoming album "Next Generation." Of the clip, Topshelf Music writes, "Waking up on the beach at sunrise from another night of partying, the band does what any other person in that predicament would do — try to get more beer. The tongue-in-cheek video takes you on a skateboard cruise of San Diego, seeing the curious characters that prowl the streets by day." Video Credits: Director and Editor - Jeff Dirdack Director of Photography - Patrick Ring Colorist - Myles Gilbert Song Credits: Full Production - Defiant Robot Records Production and Recording - Wade Morris Mixing - Rob Nagelhout Mastered - Jesse Cannon Released by Surf, Skate, Punk Records Wanted Noise's Caleb Adkins says, "The concept for this video came from a day in the life of the Wanted Noise crew. In the making of this video we camped out for the weekend at our drummer's pad in Leucadia, with the whole band plus director/producer Jeff and director of photography Pat. It was a blast, bombing hills with Taylor riding sitting on a cooler on a longboard, skating through north county SD neighborhoods, and rocking out on the beach. Everywhere we went people were stoked and asking us about Wanted Noise. We chose to make our drummer Taylor the starring character, since drummers need love too! Inspiration for the song “More Sunrises” came after Jin and I made a quick trip south from Santa Barbara back to San Diego, just before sun up. After playing an epic show we were stoked on life and looking to personify the idea of recognizing the great times in life, in a ripping posi punk tune." Helming proudly from small town Cambridge, Ontario Canada, Block Parent is a three-piece unit focused on playing coming of age, self-deprecating punk rock. By making waves in both the thriving underground punk scene throughout the 519 and greater punk community of Ontario, they have played alongside The Dirty Nil, Fucked Up, '68, Single Mothers and more. Following their first vinyl release from Thousand Island Records and Pink Lemonade Records, Block Parent constructed a debut LP that perfectly captures their relentless energy and heartfelt comedy. Their new self-released album ‘Sick Year, Bro!' cements Block Parent's punk rock identity into a tight 30-minute package. Listen to the album: https://blockparent.bandcamp.com/album/sick-year-bro The band says, "Growing up is a painful and beautiful experience. It mutates and morphs ya into the chud loving critter you never thought you'd see reflecting back at ya in a pool of your own vomit. We hold onto the pains of nostalgia with our beer-soaked fists while we anxiously hide our disdain and discomfort for a scary and confusing world....but we have each other. We'll grow old together and we'll absolutely get weirder. In the end, all we can do is embrace our flaws, accept our self-destruction, face our anxieties and hold on to what we love....past present and future. Here's to you Cambridge, you beautiful and disgusting wretched hive of friendship and isolation. It's not much....but it's ours." The album is available on CD (self-released) and limited edition cassette tapes (with help from Glue Gun Records). https://blockparent.bandcamp.com https://www.facebook.com/BlockParentPunk/ https://www.instagram.com/blockparentpunk/ https://gluegunrecords.bandcamp.com/ https://www.instagram.com/gluegunrecords/ https://www.facebook.com/GlueGunRecords/ This episode is proudly brought to you by: #Betterhelp : https://www.betterhelp.com/sipod for 10% off #Coldest Water Bottle: Use code "10DEREK" for 10% off https://thecoldestwater.com/ #LootCrate : http://loot.cr/3rWoAnw Code "Suckitpodcast" for 15% off BUY MERCH!!!!! #Merch Store: https://www.dckproductions.com/shop Follow me: https://www.instagram.com/suckitpodcast https://www.facebook.com/suckitpodcast https://www.twitter.com/suckit_podcast --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/thedarksideofmusic/message Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/thedarksideofmusic/support
Joker's Hand is a rock band hailing from Torrance, CA. Founding members Kevin Kawano and Matthew Lau met while attending film school at UC Santa Cruz. After writing dozens of demos and carving a name for themselves on the Los Angeles club circuit, the band met with producers Steve Ornest and Wyn Davis at Total Access Recording Studios (Sublime, No Doubt, Guns N' Roses). They began working on what would become their debut self-titled EP, which was released in March 2020. The band's first single “Anthem,” landed in rotation on several FM radio stations throughout Southern California. Their second single “Gold Rush” charted on KROQ's Locals Only, reaching #1 and staying in the Top 5 for nine weeks straight. KROQ's Locals Only also featured their song “Hijacked” which also took the #1 spot, their second song to top the chart. Best described as retro rock with a punk edge, Joker's Hand songs are timeless, and their commercial accessibility reaches across the generations. The band's explosive live shows coupled with their excellent vocal ability and musicianship has catapulted them above the noise floor of the Los Angeles rock music scene. The Asian American duo has been active in the #StopAsianHate movement, recently performing at rallies across the Southland. In the summer of 2020, BLiND DRiVE's grungy quintet reunited in the small dusty shed outside Timslizz's (drums) house in the south shore. They already established chemistry and an aggressive stage presence from past projects. This time their goal was to create a dynamic, original sound inspired by diverse punk/post-hardcore/rock influences; fused with their trademark bouncy, emotional flare. Aaron (vox), still fresh off a cross country van trip, linked up with Jack (guitar), Joe (guitar), Nick (bass) and Timslizz with the goal of becoming their lead singer. His prolific songwriting and work ethic won the band over and their mutual wanderlust bonded them in their dreams of touring. BLiND DRiVE currently practices at Kennedy Studios in Burlington, MA. They recorded their first 2 songs with Aaron's mentor Matt Blanchette at Revelry Studios in Manchester, NH. The band will be playing the songs live at the Cove in Burlington, VT with Shore Rites and Discount Face Tattoos on 5/29! Boston, MA's BLiND DRiVE have just released their debut two-song EP 'Redemption.' “This EP consists of memoirs of cathartic yet beautiful stories of self-reflection in the hopes of redemption. We dug deep to bring you some music that makes us proud and we really hope you enjoy listening to it as much as we enjoyed making it.” – *Aaron Noj (vox)* Socials: https://www.facebook.com/BlindDriveMA https://www.instagram.com/BlindDriveMA/ Stream the 'Redemption' EP here: https://distrokid.com/hyperfollow/blinddrive/redemption Stream the new music video, “Nowhere Near”: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tIapH14aXtI This episode is proudly brought to you by: #Betterhelp : https://www.betterhelp.com/sipod for 10% off #Coldest Water Bottle: Use code "10DEREK" for 10% off https://thecoldestwater.com/ #LootCrate : http://loot.cr/3rWoAnw Code "Suckitpodcast" for 15% off BUY MERCH!!!!! #Merch Store: https://www.dckproductions.com/shop Follow me: https://www.instagram.com/suckitpodcast https://www.facebook.com/suckitpodcast https://www.twitter.com/suckit_podcast --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/thedarksideofmusic/message Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/thedarksideofmusic/support
The Venomous Pink's newest album, “Based on a True Story”, lives up to its title. These tracks are the musical aftermath of their mid-tour, pre-COVID, Bridge City Sessions live recording. This release perfectly documents the band's unproduced sound and raw energy. Plus, it's a product of an unforgettable, fun adventure, through uncontrollable, intense, time restraints on the road. The Arizona-based punk trio is known for its addictive live performances that shreds from start to finish, and these cuts really show what “The Pinks” are made of. “After speeding across states and trying to beat the clock for a couple of days, we told the Bridge City Sessions crew we only had so much time to wrap things, rush across town, to play a sold out show at the Twilight Lounge. They told us we could only get through a couple of songs,” explained drummer Cassandra Jalilie. Obviously, they have never seen The Pinks live before. Bridge City quickly retracted their initial assumptions. Jalilie went on, “We ended up recording our whole EP. It was insane because they told us, ‘no other band has been able to go through an entire set that fast before in one take.' Even they were blown away!” “The true sound of the Venomous Pinks is hearing a live set,” said guitarist and vox Drea Doll. For fans of TSOL, Joan Jett and Bikini Kill grab a copy through iTunes or Bandcamp. You can also stream it through Spotify. If members of Bikini Kill and TSOL musically collided in a Russ Myer movie, the soundtrack scoring the scene would be orchestrated by The Venomous Pinks. Hailing from Mesa, Arizona the three-piece trio creates an unapologetically, uniquely addictive, in-your-face punk sound, that instantly makes the soul hurt so good, you can't help but yearn for more. The Venomous Pinks formed in 2012, and have blasted their way from the garage and into the spotlight, shredding the stage with some of punk rock's finest bands, such as Bad Religion, Iggy Pop, Anti-Flag, The Bouncing Souls, The Bombpops, and Masked Intruder, just to name a few. Even though they have been touring all over the country, they have street cred to back them since their loyalty to their local roots runs deep.
