Today we continue conversations with creatives, with the gem that is Jake Isaac. We discuss his beginnings playing the drums in church, and his ability to transcend the divide between 'sacred' and 'secular' spaces. Also, what we can learn from MJ, Kanye West and Jon Batiste, and what he hopes his children will learn from his artistic journey. This is a beautiful conversation, I hope you enjoy it. *Notices* The competition closes on Sunday 11th August at 12 noon. From Whittier, CA, 21-year-old Jake Isaac is a professional Supercross and motocross race mechanic for the factory TLD/Red Bull/GasGas Racing team, spinning wrenches for Pierce Brown. Prior to landing his current job with TLD/Red Bull/GasGas, Isaac was working with Derek Drake on the small, satellite team, Bar-X Suzuki. In today's episode with Jake, we dive into his early years growing up in Whittier, CA, his flat track racing career winning junior national championships, how he discovered his love for working on motorcycles, a school project he did about the factory Kawasaki team, a hilarious story about an interview he had with Pro Circuit Kawasaki's Mitch Payton, how he finally got his opportunity as a race mechanic for Derek Drake, transitioning over to the TLD/Red Bull/GasGas team, and so much more. This was such a fun and insightful conversation with a very charismatic and outgoing human. Jake is very candid in sharing his perspective on life, the ebbs and flows of how he got to where he is today, and so much more. For anyone looking for a job in the dirt bike industry, especially how to become a factory race mechanic, this episode is for you. I hope all enjoy this one! Join your host Greg Howard Jr as he gets to the heart of what makes a musician tick with the incredibly talented ALICE PISANO!Italian-born, London-based, Alice Pisano, a contemporary pop artist who made a bright entrance to the scene back in 2018. Since then, she has garnered a fantastic name for herself, offering listeners an ecstatic realm of lyrical bliss and contagious musicality. Now, Pisano releases "Ink", the second single from her upcoming EP Shattered But Still Cool following the relatable "Boys Like You". Written and produced alongside Anthony Goldsbrough (Sam Tompkins, Charlotte OC) and Gavin Powell (Emeli Sandè, Jake Isaac), her new single explores how intense love can be for an introvert. Pisano confides, "I can get a bit shy in social situations, especially at big parties. But I also have a more bubbly and outgoing side, and having a crush on someone tends to drag me out of my shell. When I wrote it I was dating someone and I was in that initial infatuation phase, when you get butterflies in your stomach. It didn't end well, but that is another story!"As Pisano's dreamy vocals rise above energised synthesisers, "Ink" is enveloped by blissful melodies and a blaring bassline that would find a home on any dancefloor. She has released yet another single that genuinely encapsulates her burning desire for true pop-perfection. Pisano explains, "I hope Ink can be a mood booster and make someone dance, feel good and energised!"With shining global success, her debut single “Celebrated Life” garnered over four million Spotify streams alone. Following her successful debut, Pisano also had four singles enter the iTunes Pop charts, numerous radio plays on stations including the BBC and over one million views on TikTok with her single “September”. Her single “Open Up” was featured as the soundtrack to the summer trailer of the British hit TV series Hollyoaks. This year, Pisano played two shows at The Great Escape Festival and was one of the first 50 artists to be announced. Accumulating a huge amount of Spotify editorial support, her latest single "Boys Like You" made its way to Spotify's Global Fresh Finds playlist, 6 New Music Fridays, New Pop UK, as many more editorial playlists. As well as garnering critical acclaim from online tastemakers including Clash, Earmilk, Wonderland and Atwood Magazine, "Boys Like You" is regularly played on BBC Radio Wales and Pisano was also interviewed live by H from Steps on his Friday Night show. Alice Pisano is truly proving to be a rising star in the contemporary pop scene.Alice's WebsiteFacebookInstagramTwitterTikTokYouTubeSUPPORT THIS SHOW

We had bucketloads of #NewMusic in our playlist! An eclectic mix of original, intelligent, melodic, grown-up songs - #electronic, #rnb, #jazz, #blues and #acoustic. And mostly from artists who you have not heard of - yet! Think 'next series of Jools' - that's the kind of artists that we play. Our Luvva Cover feature, this week, has quite a story behind it! When The Clash were due to play in Paris in 1981, they met an Algerian musician (Rachid Taha officiel) who handed them a tape of demos of his (punk) band's songs. He heard nothing back from them so he assumed that they hadn't played the tape. The following year, they released one of their best known songs. In an interview with The Guardian some time later, he told this story, smiled at the journalist, and said, "Maybe they did listen to my tape." He later made a brilliant cover version of the track - see what you think! Being an Independent artist can be a lonely journey at times and you can often find yourself occupying many of the roles a label would take care of were you a signed act. Well they say, 'No man is an Island', and a great and supportive team can make all the difference in the world to an artist. But when is it right to start bringing others into your vision? How do you know someone is right for your team? And what can you do until the right people come along? In recent podcasts we've heard a lot of valuable insights on 'having a team' from the likes of Wyld and Cherri V and in this episode singer/songwriter and producer, Jake Isaac shares his take on building your team as well as some tips from us on what we've found to be important. Book Slam's 66th Podcast marks something of a return to form with lots of clever people reading clever stuff in a clever, but nonetheless engaging, fashion, which nods coyly in the direction of postmodernism before sensibly leaving on the arm of narrative. Quite. The clever include SHEILA HETI, reading from and discussing 'How Should A Person Be', GARY SHTEYNGART, reading from and discussing 'Little Failure', and our dear friend NIKESH SHUKLA, an arse so smart that he provokes in most an involuntary tug of the forelock. Have you read his new novel 'Meatspace' yet? You really should. There's also great music from JAKE ISAAC. Patrick and Elliott are not clever. Some people think they just play thick from some misplaced desire to fit into to an increasingly asinine world. These people are wrong.
In this weeks show we have an interview with Ian Bennett who is a musician and promoter. We also have this weeks Double Bill and Shameless Favourite. And, of course, we have loads of great music from acts including Jake Isaac, Beatrix Players and Mock Deer. We play every kind of music – it just has to be good. The result is a mix of indie, folk, funk, swing, ska, punk, pop and anything else that takes our fancy that week.
