Is KTM okay or not? A year of scary news about financials for the massive Austrian maker of KTM, Husqvarna and GasGas motorcycles continues, with rumors of a make it or break it payment looming this week. It appears KTM's business partner Bajaj might have gotten the loan needed to restart the KTM assembly lines and keep the company going.  Jason Weigandt gives the latest on that, then chats with Frank White of long-time American dirt bike manufacturer ATK. Yes, the ATK brand is still around, now as a parts supplier, and it has partnered with Harley-Davidson on projects before.  Frank White doesn't like what he sees over at H-D these days, with the company reporting a loss of over $200 million in the final quarter of 2024. White and others would like to see the CEO of Harley ousted, and a revamp of the type of products the company produces.  While a recent vote will keep the current CEO in place for at least this year, these are still times of stress at two of the biggest motorcycle companies in the world. If you've kept up with the Seat Time videos, you know the Astra Offroad Handlebars I had on the Sherco were one of the parts that truly changed the way I rode the two stroke. When I got on the GasGas, I knew I also wanted to ride with the low-rise Astra handlebars. I learned the hard way that the weight and rotating mass of a four stroke changes the handling characteristics of the motorcycle, creating the need for a higher rise handlebars than I previously thought. In this video, I discuss the testing I did to find the right handlebar position for the Astra Gemini 38mm rise handlebars I'm now running on the EX 350F. I also added a few podcast snippets from Jörli at Astra on more specifics of four stroke handlebar positioning and handlebar sweep. Since the second quarter of 2024, the industry has been filled with rumors of Pierer Mobility, the parent company of the KTM, Husqvarna, and GasGas brands, running into slowing sales, an overstock of product and ultimately major financial troubles. The strong boost in powersports, bicycle, and overall outdoor recreation sales seen after the pandemic have slowed, and aggressive sales targets have suddenly become difficult to meet. While none of those dealings behind the scenes had yet impacted what the consumer sees with products—the brands continue to innovate with quite a few new machines for 2025—or on the race track, it's becoming more and more clear the company will need major changes to continue into the future.   Jason Weigandt explains the "never waste a good crisis" mode the company was in after the pandemic, the boom that followed, and the struggle today that led the company to declare itself insolvent in Europe. It won't impact racing or motorcycle availability here in America, yet, at least beyond the cuts that were already put into motion over the last few weeks and months. But these are tough roads ahead. Tras retirarse de forma prematura la pasada temporada como piloto en el Mundial de MotoGP, Pol Espargaró está viviendo una 'nueva vida' como comentarista de televisión y probador en KTM. El 24 de marzo de 2023, la vida de Pol Espargaró pendió de un hilo a consecuencia de un durísimo accidente en el Circuit de Portimao, durante el primer entrenamiento del GP de Portugal de 2023. El entonces corredor de GasGas se estrelló en la fatídica curva 10, llegando hasta el muro, donde no había defensas de aire. El pequeño de los Espargaró acabó en la UCI y tuvo que afrontar un periodo de recuperación largo y tedioso, que le marcó completamente, hasta el punto de que, ese mismo año, decidió retirarse. Lo que podía parecer una mala jugada del destino, sin duda, Pol ha sido capaz de revertirlo de forma espectacular, transformándose en uno de los mejores comentaristas de televisión, "gracias a Izaskun Ruiz", asegura, y en piloto de prueba de KTM, el equipo con el que protagonizó en el último gran premio, en Mugello, un wild card. Pol Espargaró se une a Uri Puigdemont, Germán Garcia Casanova y Alberto Gómez en una nueva edición, la #104, del Podcast MotoGP 'Por Orejas', de MotorsportNetwork, para hablar de todo un poco. De la decisión de poner el pie en el suelo, de cómo se ha transformado su vida, de la experiencia de hacer wildcard y el "miedo" que sintió al volver a mezclarse con otros pilotos a 300 Km/h. Como avezado comentarista en la actualidad, Pol no rehuye valorar otras situaciones más comprometidas, como el actual momento del mercado, la forma en que Ducati ha gestionado los movimientos con sus pilotos, el paso de Marc Márquez a la formación oficial de Bolonia, la salida de Jorge Martín o las opciones de que Enea Bastianini acabe en KTM. Espargaró no esquiva las preguntas y se moja en las respuesta, y cuando le planteamos por qué KTM no ficha a un primer espada para igualar, junto a Pedro Acosta, a la pareja de multicampeones de Ducati, con Marc y Pecco Bagnaia, su respuesta es para no perdérsela: "¿Es mejor Pecco que Brad?…"

C'è da dire che mai si è girato così forte al Mugello: meno 25 secondi rispetto al 2023. E' la dimostrazione che non servono i 370 Km/h per fare spettacolo, né i 300 cv.Un podcast durante il quale abbiamo 'tentato' di non parlare troppo di mercato, ma c'è poco da fare: il 'caso Marquez' continua a tenere banco. Nel frattempo ancor prima di avere da Ducati la quadratura del cerchio, inizia qualche movimento: Aleix Espargarò sembra aver imboccato la direzione Honda per divertirsi come collaudatore, mentre Bastianini domenica sera era a colloquio con KTM per il passaggio in Tech3, che nel 2025 dovrebbe abbandonare la livrea GasGas per vestire quella della casa. Justin Barcia broke his collarbone at the Nashville Supercross, and an infection after his surgery caused a collarbone injury to turn into a much bigger deal. Thankfully, Justin is back on the bike and looking forward to getting back to the races soon, maybe as soon as Unadilla. The race program Josh Toth has for 2023 is what most racers dream of! It's even cooler to hear that he chose this route, knowing he wanted to have certain life experiences  while he could; He doesn't want to live a life of regrets. Toth and I just finished racing the Black Buffalo National Enduro, so we had some VERY relevant thoughts on how awesome that race was. We also dive into his 2023 race program, and how he was able to put together such a cool program and schedule with Enduro Engineering, GasGas, and other sponsors.It isn't easy to jump back and forth between Hard Enduro and more traditional dirt bike racing, so it was cool to hear Toth's perspective on the different disciplines. In today's show we go deep into what many competitors are calling the toughest day of racing in the 2022 edition of the Dakar Rally in Saudi Arabia. Massive miles and challenging terrain, mixed with navigation complications right out of the gate, had front runners scrambling to limit time loss, while those who set off in a favorable starting position further back reaped maximum benefits.Starting the day in the overall lead for the rally, Monster Energy Yamaha's Adrian Van Beveren had a tough task starting towards the front of the race with rival teams surrounding him. It didn't take long for it to get worse as major time was lost in the first miles.We speak with Van Beveren's Yamaha teammate Andrew Short about the stage and what happened as time bled from Van Beveren's lead. We also hear from Pablo Quintanilla on the Monster Energy Honda team, as he kept his podium position intact after a tough day. Matthias Walkner on the Red Bull KTM is right there with him. Both of these riders needed to make more time today for overall victory considerations, but they're certainly not out of anything yet as anything can happen!Overall leader, once again, is GasGas' Sam Sunderland who had a great day, finishing only four seconds back from winning the stage to set himself up for a nice ride to the win in tomorrow's final, short, special stage. Red Bull KTM's Kevin Benavides re-entered the race after a mechanical DNF yesterday to take the overall win today from a deep 30's starting position. He will be a big asset to Sunderland's championship ride home tomorrow.More in today's episode you won't want to miss!
