These were the years that saw dance music shifting dramatically, with the big room circuit style starting to cool off just as Electro House began rising from the underground and taking over mainstream dance floors. But the evolution wasn't one-dimensional. This era ushered in a diverse set of trends that helped shape the sound of modern dance. It was the rise of remix royalty like Freemasons, Moto Blanco, and Cahill. Each brought their own distinct flair to the genre. Freemasons blended traditional House with Electro influences, Moto Blanco leaned deep into shimmering Disco House, and Cahill straddled both worlds with a clean, pop-forward edge. Their remixes were everywhere—especially for big-name artists. Back then, the bigger the artist, the more labels were willing to shell out for high-profile remixers. That is, until budgets began shrinking and labels stopped cutting those massive checks. Fast-forward 15 years, and platforms like SoundCloud changed the game again. Suddenly, bootleg remixes became marketing tools, not just club exclusives. DJs had to hustle to make a name for themselves—often remixing tracks for free in the hopes of being discovered or landing a record deal. A Remix Renaissance During this same stretch, a powerhouse of remixers emerged and defined the dancefloor. Bimbo Jones, Seamus Haji, Soul Seekerz, Wideboys, Dave Audé, Jody den Broeder, and a revitalized StoneBridge (whose roots go back to the '90s) were dropping fire left and right. Meanwhile, some of the biggest names from the big room era still held their ground. Chris Cox (post-Thunderpuss), Ralphi Rosario, Tony Moran, Johnny Vicious, and DJ Escape kept delivering heavy, floor-shaking anthems that balanced out the sleeker, more polished productions coming from the Electro and Disco House scenes. This blend of sounds made for one of the most diverse periods in dance music—something we haven't quite seen repeated since. A Pop Diva Takeover The pop landscape at the time wasn't sitting quietly either. Britney Spears was staging a massive comeback, Beyoncé and Rihanna were dominating charts globally, and Robyn was redefining what electro-pop could be. Their tracks became essential remix material and ruled dance floors from coast to coast. We've packed both volumes of this series with heavy doses of these queens because, frankly, they owned this era. Now, if you're looking for a broader reflection of each year's biggest dance anthems,

What I think are some of the Best Whitney Houston songs.
Enjoy this week's episode of Redolence Radio hosted by NY Dj & Producer SALIVA COMMANDOS. With great percussive tribal productions and Djing in that NY style, George Aponte aka Saliva Commandos is a rising star of the underground New York scene. He is no novice to the New York underground scene, born and raised in the Bronx, NY he was both exposed and influenced at a pivotal time in music history and dance. Memories of Street Jams in the neighborhood and DJs like Zulu nation sparked George's interest in DJing. In 1996, George “Saliva Commandos” established himself as a producer with the underground hit "SERVE" on Progressive Records followed by several remixes under the Progressive Records label. By 1998, George released his first track, Serial Buff. The song quickly became a favorite for such DJs as Junior Vasquez, Danny Tenaglia, Johnny Vicious and many others. In 2015, George launched the IN:COMMAND RECORDS Label and released his first track on the IN:COMMAND label “I Love nobody else”. He has since been able to produce and release continuous music while creating his own niche in the Afro-House scene including: “When I was Puerto Rican”, “Knapp your hands” and “Soulchesico” just to name a few. Ultimate Trance Classics Volume 2 has been expanded to add the Tall Paul remix of the Trance classic 'Beachball' by Naline & Kane. Party Favorz is back with volume 2 of the Ultimate Trance Classics series and boy oh boy is this a HOT one! This set is packed form start to finish with some of the biggest Trance tracks from the 90's and early millennium. One notable exception is the uncredited trance remix of 'Thank You' by Dido. Anyone attuned to the radio or who was a club kid during the early 00's remembers the massive success of this woman who happens to be an inductee into our Diva Hall of Fame. She's also the sister of Faithless member Rollo who is prominently featured in this tribute series. She had already been riding high off of 'Here With Me' and after Eminem sampled 'Thank You' on his massive single 'Stan,' she exploded on MTV and radio taking the song to #1. The trance version was taken from an unofficial Russian EP that had official remixes from her album 'No Angel' but never had an official release. It's not clear if this is an original remix or a mashup but it's so good that it's worthy of inclusion because it's timely and fits right in with everything else. Keep in mind that Johnny Vicious had created a full-blown trance remix of 'Here With Me' that was already huge in the clubs so including this song just made sense. Otherwise, this set has got so many massive trance tracks included — it reads like a who's who of the DJs and artists who fueled the genre. I have to admit that I really dreaded re-doing this series and expanding on it because these songs are not the easiest in the world to mix. Most have no intro nor outro and clock in at a neck-snapping average of 138 bpm. Needless to say, I've been pleasantly surprised at how well this is all falling together — certainly better than my first effort in 2010. Frankly, I've exceeded my own expectations. Volume 3 and 4 will be dropping next week, which will finish out this series before we jump into Spring Break madness. Until then...ENJOY! As many of you may not know, Party Favorz hosting is up for renewal in a few days and it would be helpful if you could help pitch in to cover the costs. This is a once a year ask for donations but is not mandatory. I want to give a shout out to Paul S. ($25) and Casper Y. ($50 ) for their generous donations. We're about $100 shy of reaching our goal. If you would like to donate you may do so below. Every little bit helps. Album: Ultimate Trance Classics | Volume 2 Genre: Trance, Progressive House Year: 2022 Total Time: 04:08:24 1. Party Favorz is back with volume three of the Ultimate 90's House Classics [1998 - 1999] and this set dives deep into progressive territory. We kick the party off with one of our all-time favorties 'Lately' by Divine with Joanathan Peters performing remix duties. With it's ubeat synths and fantstic harmonies — 'Lately' packed floor every time it dropped. Of course all the club favorites from this era are here like Faith Hill's 'Breathe' and the sweeping Hex Hector accompanying remix, 'Sexual' by Amber (a Thunderpuss instant classic), 'I Will Go With You' by Donna Summer that was packaged with the some of the biggest name DJs from that period, 'Someone To Hold' by Veronica showcasing Johnny Vicious' versatility who would go on to be an in demand DJ in the early millennium, Whitney Houston's defiant 'It's Not Right, But It's Okay' (another Thunderpuss instant classic that takes the R&B original and jacks it up by a factor of 100 while blowing a hole in the roof with Whitney's powerful vocals - thank you Clive) and the massive 'You're Still the One' by Shania Twain courtesy of Soul Solution. Some of you may be looking at this track list and scratching your heads over the inclusion of 'Ojos Asi' by Shakira. I grew up in South Texas and the Columbian born singer was already a massive star through Central America, Mexico and various pockets of the United States with large Latino populations. The song has a strong middle eastern sound and was not like anything else on her fourth album the critically acclaimed and multi-platnium 'Dónde Están los Ladrones? It was tacked on to what was otherwise a more rock and acoustic album that elicited comparisons to Alanis Morissette. Once the video dropped for 'Ojos Asi' all bets were off. The song blew up and Shakria had arrived. Under the tutelage of Emilio Estefan (husban of Gloria Estefan), Shakira was primed to cross over into the American market and it would be two years before she dropped her first English language album 'Laundry Service' in the states. The remix for 'Ojos Asi' is often credited to Thunderpuss but was actually Pablo Flores who was also producer on her album. The song was an instant floorfiller upon its release in 1999 and frankly, fits in nicely with the tracks that surround it. Before there was Todrick Hall or Lil Nas X — there was Kevin Aviance. 'Rhythm Is My Bitch' was his second of three #1 dance club hits, which followed his 80's remake 'Din Da Da' and was proceeded by 'Alive' in 2002 with two other top 5 releases 'Give It Up' and 'Strut.' He had a cameo in Madonna's 'Secret' video and has worked with Janet Jackson and Whitney Houston. He was also a member of the vogue-ball house 'House of Aviance' and was a gender bending leader who paved the path for others. Check out the video below: https://youtu.be/Nk7GilPqr1I I've still got two possibly three more sets to go in this series. I'm setting a goal of getting them all out this next week without sacraficing tracks or quality. It gets harder once you start getting to the bottom but I'm convinced I can work it out. Until the next time...ENJOY! Album : The Ultimate 90's House Classics [1998 – 1999] Vol. 3 Genre : 90's Classic House Year : 2021 Total Time : 3:30:12 1. Divine - Lately (Jonathan Peters Full Mix) 2. On July 12, 2018... I released the first ever episode of Philosophy 101… 3 years later.. here we are… Philosophy family.. can you believe it?! I have 3 things to say to all of you; THANK YOU! THANK YOU!! & THANK YOU!!! There are not enough words to express the copious amounts of gratitude that I have for every single person who has supported from the start... From the team who has helped me transform Philosophy 101 into what it is today.. to anyone who has listened to every episode or just one episode.. and most importantly; the universal gratitude that I have for EVERY.. SINGLE.. House-Head that I've ever had the pleasure of having a conversation with, or just simply having shared a dance floor with you over my 29 years of existence… Seriously if you were to tell me 3 years ago, that not only will this podcast be listened to on every continent, throughout 75 different countries, & will have generated over 10K listens... Swear on my moms I would have told you; “Pass me whatever it is that you're smoking on because that sounds like some real fire shit & I want some”… And thennn... if you were to tell me that 6 months into releasing this podcast series, I would then be presented the opportunity to transform Philosophy 101 into an event series. That would not only take over some of Las Vegas' biggest nightclubs, but would enable me to headline open-close sets playing all different kinds of underground noises… And thennnnnn.. that would help to facilitate bringing Philosophy 101 back to my hometown of NYC, & most recently assist in being booked to be the headlining artist for a promenade record label's first 2021 label showcase in Los Angeles representing the Philosophy|CLV moniker... All the whilst, morphing Philosophy 101 into a DJ Collective consisting of likeminded individuals; some of whom I've known for over a decade... But were chosen not based off of how great their DJ skills are, or how well known they are, or where they have played, or how many people they can put through the door... But rather on the purest fact of; real recognize real… This music is who I am… This music has been shaping my life ever since I bought my first underground house 12” vinyl nearly 16 years ago… DJ Pierre aka The Godfather of acid house himself, once said; "Anything that starts off underground is house.. I don't care how big it gets.. if it started out underground.. then it's house!" House isn't just a type of music..it's a way of life..it's a culture..it's an ideology..and for those of us who started chasing this rabbit a long long time ago..we haven't left the rabbit hole since... This is the first Philosophy episode that I can truly say I left a piece of my soul inside of forever. Not only is this mix completely different than how I normally play... It is a beautiful, only can happen in the moment, on the fly, type of journey that explores my 3 favorite era's/decades of house... We starting off with what's closest to my heart.. the 2005-2010 golden era of NYC's tribal that I spent countless hours inside the walls of Pacha NYC, Cielo, & Asseteria listening too… Then rewinding back into the late 90s-early 2000's with that real Sound Factory era type sounds of Johnny Vicious, Jonathan Peters, Robbie Tronco, Sal Parm aka Plasmic Honey, & so on… And finally to round it out by ending off with what started it all; disco classics, original house classics/remixes/edits/reworks, & of course timeless vocals laid over a beautiful 4x4 beat... I hope you enjoy this 3 hour pilgrimage through the sounds of house as much as I did… I love you all... -Nick

2009 was a good year for the DJ/Producer. As I mentioned in my first post, David Guetta was successful in bridging the gap between electro-house and radio. Not unlike the 70's when disco bubbled up from the clubs and became mainstream, electro and funky house are well on their way to becoming the new Top 40 du jour. No one appeared more often on remix productions than Dave Aude. There is no doubt he had his hand in better than half of the massive club hits of the year. He was often paired against Moto Blanco who continue to whip up their sugary-disco confections. More often than not, those productions fell flat as they became formulaic opening up Dave's work as the favorite for dancefloors across the globe. From Beyonce to Lady GaGa and everyone in between, Dave was the guy you went to for a guaranteed floor filler; and boy did he deliver! The other winner this year was Cahill. While the Freemasons have been busy working their magic on future releases off of their sophomore album "Shakedown 2," Cahill appears to have slipped in and taken up the slack where the 'masons may have become cost prohibitive for many labels. Hailing from Liverpool, UK, Anton Powers, Tim Condran and Scott Rosser (i.e. Cahill) are poised to become the next superstar production team. While they left their mark on many hits in 2009, none were more prevalent than newcomer Agnes' "Release Me." Of course, it didn't hurt to remix a superstar like Mariah either and it's those kinds of remixes that tend to get people noticed. With future productions in the works by Pixie Lott & N-Dubz plus new singles from Lemar and Cascada, I fully expect nothing less than club domination in 2010 from these guys. While Dave was hitting the electro masses and Cahill was working their magic in the electro-pop scene, DJ Escape was pounding out the tribal beats on the circuit. Whether he was pairing up with Tony Coluccio, Johnny Vicious or Dom Capello, DJ Escape (a.k.a. Jeff Jonas) found himself churning out many of last year's biggest club hits. Most notably, his work on several of Beyonce's singles gained him the kind of notoriety that most DJ/producers can only dream of. Since the early 90s, hard work and dedication to his craft have clearly paid off as he has become one of 2009's most in-demand producers as well as performers. You'll be hearing a lot of his work in the final four of this podcast series coming next week. Finally, 2009 witnessed the return of some of clubland's most cherished. I'm talking about Barry Harris, Pete Hammond and Razor N' Guido. Barry, as you know, was one half of the acclaimed Thunderpuss production team and R-n-G (a.k.a. Guido Osorio and Peter Osback) were responsible for Kim English's 1999 hit "Unspeakable Joy" among others. Pete Hammond is the former chief engineer and producer for Stock Aitken & Waterman (SAW) and was responsible for shaping classic 80s Hi-NRG dance hits like Rick Astley's "Never Gonna Give You Up" and Donna Summer's "This Time I Know It's For Real." He has now gone back and updated that sound for a whole new generation of club-goers. Already churning out the hits, these guys are a breath of fresh air in an already crowded field where many DJs nauseously drop an acapella over the same drum loop. Party Favorz extends a very warm 'welcome back' to these masters of production and looks forward to hearing and dancing to their work in 2010. Working off the same vibe as my 2009 BPM series along with a little T-Dance thrown in for good measure, I bring you part deuce of the Party Favorz 2009 Year-End Edition. I'm doing my best to get out the first four by the end of the week, with the second half slated for next, which will be more in line with the original series. Until the next time . . . enjoy! Two days ago, I had the chance to finally preview 'Take 2' and decided I wasn't exactly feeling the Bimbo Jones mix of "Push Up Word Up" and decided to swap it out for the club mix instead. That version is more of a breakbeat mix very similar to the original 80s version by Cameo, which I like much better. While I was at it, I went ahead and made some minor improvements to a couple of songs. I decided that the Simply Red and Freemasons with Sophie Ellis- Bextor mixes were a little too slow for my taste. So, I increased the BPM from 125 to 128 giving both songs an energy boost. It's not as significant as you might think since the vocals remain the same and don't come out sounding like the Chipmunks. I've done this before, but not after I had already posted the mix. I also remastered the Freemasons mix to bring it up to par with the songs surrounding it. The quality was a little lacking so I added some light compression to toughen it up a bit. Anyway, if you want the final version, the mix along with a new .cue file has been replaced and is available for download. I have to say this has been a hectic week. I've had a lot on my plate and had all the mixes finished up on Sunday to get other work done. The only problem was a slew of new promos showed up. There were several worthwhile mixes that I added to this third installation, making it longer than previously projected. I don't think anyone will mind and I'm guessing that the fourth will have some changes as well, though I can't guarantee the length. I just thought I'd put that out there before some of you get all up in my face about the length of the mix. Regardless, once you hear it, you'll be glad I made the additions. Starting things off with quite possibly the hardest songs I've had to mix in a long time. Ashley Tisdale's "It's Alright, It's Okay" and Kaci Battaglia's "Crazy Possessive (I'll Muck You Up)" are too big and I mean very BIG electro house tunes that you'll no doubt be hearing everywhere this summer. The problem I had was the rolling beats that Dave Aude and Cahill used as the foundation for the songs. The best way to mix in and out of these is to have a song in a perfect key that has no build-up or breakdown at the end. Otherwise, you can forget it. After messing around with it yesterday evening, I finally decided to move them to the front of the mix and took the easy way out of "Crazy Possessive" to keep things moving along. Speaking of Dave Aude, this guy is on fire! Last year I was complaining that he was kind of hit or miss in his mixes, but it seems that everything he's touched this year (and that's been a lot) is nothing short of magic! So I want to give a big shout out to Dave for rocking the floors in 2009! We also get hot new tunes by Erika Jayne and Amanda Wilson. Erika's new single "Give You Everything" (currently only available on iTunes ) is jam-packed with great mixes from Dave Aude, DJ Escape & Johnny Vicious, and Moto Blanco. I would definitely add this to your essential list as it has something for every floor. Equally, Amanda's "Make It Real" is one of three brand new songs from the budding diva in this series all begging for attention. I'm not sure when she plans to stop and smell the roses, but I'll take that amazing voice anytime. Now, will someone please give this woman a record deal, like yesterday? Other songs already making a lot of noise are the Black Eyed Peas' "Boom Boom Pow" and Lady GaGa's latest "Love Game". Both songs are already burning up the dancefloor and if it isn't where you're at, then request it. The DJ will thank you. Rounding the mix out, we get a hot new single from 80's freestyle artist Safire. "Exotique" is another essential song that comes packed with great remixes by Mike Rizzo, Johnny Vicious, Jamie J. Sanchez and Mark Alston. Once again, something for every floor that anyone would be a fool to pass up. Finally, we have an amazingly sweet pop song "Armageddon" by newcomer Jess...

Wrapping things up with the third and final installment of the Electro-Funk Edition v8, I'm giving you a mix a bit longer than the first two. I have to tell you, this is quite possibly the most difficult mix I've made all year long. First I started out with over 240 mediocre songs and what looked like a four mix set. Fortunately, a lot of great stuff came out between the time I started this mix about 3 weeks ago and now. My process is usually to preview all the songs that I want to use for a specific mix and then start the process of elimination, giving each song about 10 seconds before I make up my mind. Then I throw everything together in one giant mix, burn it to mp3 disc and preview it (in my car, at home or in the gym) and decide which final songs will make the cut. Then I go back and do the official mix generally in one take and edit down as necessary. This go around, I had a bitch of a time deciding what to keep and what to throw out. Even after I made my final decisions, about 1/4 of the songs had mismatched beats. Meaning, they were way off. Usually, I expect a few, but this was way too many. So then, I had to painstakingly go back and manually adjust the beats to line them up. Talk about a fracking pain in the ass. Regardless, I got up early this morning to finish this final mix so I can enjoy the rest of my day. I hope I caught everything, because sometimes at 2:00 in the morning, I'm not necessarily all there if you know what I mean. The next Deep Edition is starting to shape up that way as well, though the majority of the songs appear to be mixing together quite nicely, so the only issue is what to get rid of. I'm going to try to keep it down to a three mix set with each mix coming under 80 minutes. That mix should be out this next week sometime and then I'll start working on the Halloween Edition. I've also got our next guest DJ lined up, and this is something you gotta hear. I'll get into details this next week when I post the mix, but I will say that it's deep, dark and FIERCE! In the meantime, I hope everyone has a great weekend and as always...ENJOY! I'm guessing between 1996 and 1998, there was a clear shift in dance music. Trance had bubbled up from the underground and illegal rave parties to the mainstream, while Soul Solution (Ernie Lake and Bobby Guy) had started a new big-house sound making them the go-to producers for the major and independent labels. Club 69 (Peter Rauhofer) went from smooth gay house music to big tribal circuit-style beats, while Hex Hector, Ralph Rosario, Victor Calderone, Tony Moran, Razor N' Guido & Johnny Vicious (among others) were perfecting their own sound for a new generation of party-goers. By 1999, all bets were off and these folks dominated the charts as well as the clubs. That's not to say classic house music had died, it just began a slow and steady evolution and frankly, today has come full-circle. I guess the saying goes "what's old is new and what's new is now old." I didn't get back into the scene and playing at clubs until 1999, but my interest was already sparked in 1996 when I picked up a copy of Kristine W's Land of the Living album and Funky Green Dogs Fired Up maxi. There was definitely something in the air and I was totally feeling it. I have to say, after working out the Year-End Edition for 1998 and 1997, these are quite possibly the hardest sets I've put together in a very long time. One, I'm not intimately familiar with most of the songs and two because of the varying styles (i.e. Trance, House, and Circuit) made it pretty damn challenging. Ultimately, I kept a few of the massive Trance bangers but dropped most from the set list to keep things more cohesive. If Trance is your thing, then swing on over to the three-part Trance Classics I put out a while back. Perfect? Not even close; but I think I did a pretty damn good job. I'll let you folks decide. For now, sit back and enjoy some of the best dance music 1998 had to offer. Album : Year-End Edition 1998 | volume 1 Genre : Circuit, House, Progressive Year : 1998 Total Time : 01:25:45 1.
